I remove Quicktime player 10.0

I involuntarily remove Quicktime player 10.0 from my mac and now when i wanted to download it again, but it's not possible because it show me that quicktime is built into the mac ( http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/ ), when i download quicktime it's only version 7.5.5 or latest with blue icon (before i had blue, grey icon)
Please what should i do when i want a version of Quicktime player 10.0

QuickTime Player will definitely be on your Mac OS X 10.6 installer DVD, either a retail copy or the installer disks that came with your Mac. Here are the steps:
1) download Pacifist from http://www.charlessoft.com/
2) Insert the Snow Leopard install DVD.
3) Launch Pacifist
4) Click the button that says "Open Apple Install Disks"
5) In the window that will open, accept the choice of "OS Install - Mac OS X and standard applications"  A window titled "OSInstall.mpkg" will open
6) If the list of contents under "Contents of OSInstall.mpkg" does not appear, click the disclosure triangle to show the list
7) Click the disclosure triangle next to "ContentsofEssentialSystemSoftware"
8) Click the disclosure triangle next to "ContentsofEssentialSystemSoftwareGroup"
9) Click the disclosure triangle next to "Contents of Essentials.pkg"
10) Click the disclosure triangle next to "Applications"
11) Click "QuickTime Player.app" to select it
12) Select the "Install Files to Default Location" command under the File menu
13) Make sure that "Use Administrator Privileges" is checkmarked and that the file will be extracted to /Applications/
14) Click the "Install" button.
Pacifist should then restore QuickTime Player X to your Applications folder.
Regards.

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

Hello everybody. I am trying to reinstall my Quicktime 7 Pro after having my MacBook OSX 10.5.8 cleaned out following a hacking. I have Quicktime player and I reregistered with the purchased registration code for Quicktime 7 pro. It seems to be successfully registered with "Quicktime 7 Pro" appearing under the inserted registration code but it is not showing in Applications folder and I do not know how to access it or what to do. Thanks for reading this. I hope you can help me. Aidan from Dublin, Ireland.

This problem is same as reported here and hasn't been solved:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1370493&tstart=1397
I have seen this problem appearing on Windows 2000, XP SP2 and XP SP3 with all QuickTime 7 versions (can't tell about iTunes since I don't use it), it didn't bother me because I have no use for QT/MOV myself.
    but.
I have just installed your latest QT Player 7.60.92 and it craps out with the same error whenever I want to open .mov files.
And I have downloaded few trailers ranging from small resolution up to highest "HD" resolution from your own Apple website to make sure it is not some encoding compatibility issue.
I know it is a bug in QT Player itself, so don't tell me please that "my QT got fragmented" or such BS (like the replies suggested in the other thread) or ask about any QT alternative corrupting "official" QT Player since I have no such thing. I am trying to make it work on my mother's computer with freshly installed WinXP (prior updated up to latest patches), machine has standard 32bit intel single core CPU (2.8GHz, 2GB of RDRAM).
I am really sorry I bought her camera that take those stupid .mov QT videos.
    Apple folks, what's the catch?
With every crash it creates in user temp directory files like:
    QuickTimePlayer (2009-03-15 16.06.49).dmp
+ folder like WERf743.dir00 with files inside:
    appcompat.txt

Yes, same as in the other thread from year ago, the QT/.mov files play fine in the browsers (I have just check on IE7, Firefox, K-Meleon).
    Message was edited by: -888-

Look, I had it running _few times_ too until it crapped out and gives the error since (on my own other computers - which I don't care since I have no use for any QT/.mov myself, but I repeat from post 1: I need it working on my Mother's comp).
And talking about 'bad drivers' - yes, I know that the drivers are sometimes at fault and bad drivers can make entire windoze pc unstable or crash; but how can you suggest this as a cause in this case when I'm telling you that the same error appears on completely different machines? And wouldn't this error appear from begining, from very first use of QT Player if it were bad drivers? Sure it would if it was faulty driver, but since it didn't that's not the case obviously.
Another pointer that it is NOT drivers related problem is that all other audio-video programs work fine, without errors and problem-free on the same machines, including playback of some of the .mov files with Media Player Classic or VLC - while they crap out with QT Player. If it was any of the drivers for audio or video, directx acceleration, etc - the faulty driver(s) should and would affect other programs as well. Yet all of them work fine and as I said - some even play QT files too (the ones capable of).
    /edit:
Just to test it I "caved in" and I have installed entire iTunes 8.0 garbage (as suggested by foobula earlier) since I couldn't get just QTPlayer part of it to install separately, and what do you know:
LO & BEHOLD! same .mov files play fine with QT7, no errors, no problem! (I have opened/closed same .mov files many times).
Then I uninstalled iTunes and all of its junk,
removed any traces of it (because it left out - in a Microsft style - plenty of garbage in registry, user appdata folder etc),
    rebooted,
installed the "standalone" QT Player 7.60
and hello Apple my darling! - same error is back after just 2 playbacks of very same .mov files!
(I used Apple's own .mov trailers for testing just to make sure I have "right" quicktime files:
    http://movies.apple.com/movies/weinstein/inglouriousbasterds/inglouriousbasterds -tlr2_1080p.mov
    and
    http://movies.apple.com/movies/weinstein/inglouriousbasterds/inglouriousbasterds -tlr2_480p.mov
    - and I repeat: both played once each fine (haven't play till the end though, but I'm sure that doesn't matter since the problem appears from the start)
What better proof you need that the problem is only with QT Player in a "standalone edition" (or whatever Apple calls it) and not with any drivers etc?
As previously, both play fine when links opened in a browsers (so the QuickTime whatever-components responsible for audio and video rendering WORK FINE and its not any "bad drivers" problems, it is just QT Player application's problem)
Again: (I hate to repeat myself)
*I don't want any itunes or other junk,*
*I just want .mov files to open with quicktime player - no more or less.*

  • I get an error message when trying to update quicktime player

why do i get an error message when i try to update quicktime player that says "the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable", and further states that "click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'quicktime.msi' in the box below".. when i try to locate the file quicktime.msi, i am unable to locate it anywhere on my pc, which then will not allow me to complete the installation, nore will it allow me to uninstall the application.

"the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable", and further states that "click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'quicktime.msi' in the box below"..
    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another QuickTime install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • What do I lose by removing "Quicktime Plugin.plugin"?

After upgrading to Leopard (Erase and install, then migrate data from a backup off an external HD), all the flash videos and ads had the Quicktime icon with a question mark on it. After searching through Apple discussions and google, I found a site that suggested removing "Quicktime Plugin.plugin" from the library folder. It seemed like a strange fix but I did it anyway since I already went into Quicktime prefs and unchecked "Enable Flash." I also reinstalled Adobe flash player for Safari- both with no luck.
So what will I be losing by removing this plugin? I'm assuming its a necessary plugin.
Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi
So what will I be losing by removing this plugin? I'm assuming its a necessary plugin.
Very necessary. In answer to your question, have a look at this thread, especially QuickTimeKirk's post.
Have you checked your System Preferences>Quicktime>Advanced>Mime Settings panel? In the Miscellaneous panel only QuickTime HTML ought to be selected. If the other boxes are selected, then you'll have problems with QT in Safari.
Regarding Flash, if you reinstalled it, then make sure you "repair permissions" via Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.

  • QuickTime Player has stopped working

On my Vista machine, I can not run Quicktime since I get the error "QuickTime Player has stopped working" so it basically crashes. If I run Quicktime from other user accounts it works fine. It also works fine if I run it "as administrator". I have uninstalled and reinstalled it with no success. I have also followed suggestions in this forum to erase some hidden quicktime related files with no success. Does anyone have any other ideas???

Many thanks. Best to print off a copy of these instructions, because at one stage of proceedings you won't be able to use a web browser.
    Preliminaries
Switch "Run as administrator" off in the QuickTimePlayer.exe compatibility tab.
Download and save a fresh copy of the QuickTimeInstaller.exe (installer file) from the following page. Get the option that doesn't mention iTunes. Don't run the install on line, and don't start the install just yet.
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
Now quit all of iTunes, Safari and the MobileMe control panel if you have them installed and open. (They all use AAS, and may interfere with the uninstall if left open.)
    *Uninstall phase*
Head into your Uninstall a program control panel. Uninstall QuickTime. Uninstall Apple Application Support.
(From this point, none of iTunes, Safari or the MobileMe control panel will launch until we reinstall AAS, which should happen when we reinstall QuickTime.)
Next we'll remove any leftover program files and folders.
In "Computer" open "Local Disk C:" (or whichever drive you have your program files installed on).
    Open the "Program Files" folder.
Right-click on the "QuickTime" folder (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
    Open the "Common Files" folder.
    Open the "Apple" folder.
Right-click on the "Apple Application Support" folder (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
In "Computer" open "Local Disk C:" (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "System32" folder.
Right-click on the "QuickTime" and "QuickTimeVR" files (if they still exist) and select "Delete".
    Empty your Recycle Bin.
(If you got any error messages on the uninstalls and/or deletions, let us know what they say. Precise text, please.)
    *Reinstall Phase*
Restart the PC. After the PC restarts do not open any applications. Disconnect from your network and/or the internet. Now switch off all your security software (firewall, antivirus, antispyware).
Now start the reinstall by doubleclicking the QuickTimeInstaller.exe file you downloaded earlier. (This should also reinstall Apple Application Support.)
Reenable all security software prior to reconnecting to your network and/or the internet.
... does QuickTime launch without the error this time? Or do we still have to do the "Run as administrator" thing?

  • Quicktime Player unresponsive while screen recording. Help!

Hello. I often upload youtube videos with QuickTime Player and Final Cut Pro X. 2 days ago, I noticed a problem with quicktime player. Whenever I try to screen record, about 2 mins and 30 secs of recording, QuickTime Player becomes unresponsive. I am running on the new version of OSX Mavericks on a MacBook Pro. Thanks for concerning your time to help me fix this problem.

Thanks for the tip on the stop record function icon on the top menu bar.  Its disappointing that the new program with Mavericks doesn't keep the the player control box open when you are recording.  This may have been in response to some people complaining that the box can get in the way of the recording, although elsewhere it is said that even though it looks like it gets in the way it actually won't show up in the recording.
Regardless of your preference, I think some of us would ideally like to be able to see the window at times so that we can verify that the sound levels are coming through (its a royal pain to record an hour and find out later that no sound was recorded) and to potentially pause recording to remove sections where material is occuring that is of no interest (ie they took a break or need to look for something).  The stop button literally stops the recording and no longer gives you the option to RESUME.
The only thing that I found that does work although it is VERY CLUMSY is that if you attempt to quit   Quicktime the window with all the controls will show up.  If you hit cancel that window will stay there and allow you to do what you want.  Now I suspect all the messages that say DO YOU WANT TO END RECORDING are likely to show up in your recording, but I guess you can trim that out.  What would make a lot of sense is for them to have the option to view the control box in the  View pull down menu.
Oh well.  Any one else found any other ways to manage the quicktime screen recordings without being able to access the control window?

  • Is there a terminal command that will close quicktime player once a video is finished?

I'm running a python program that uses subprocess.call(['open', '-a', "Quicktime Player", filename]) to open a video and defaults write com.apple.QuickTimePlayerX MGPlayMovieOnOpen 1 starts it automatically. I'm wondering if there's a terminal way or a python way to close the video once it's finished.

Hi, Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.
What do you mean by "pick up"?
I mean to show what the DNS numbers are that the router is using.
They are not entered in the DNS server field in Networks, TCP/IP tab.
If you mean refresh the client settings, the DNS settings are obtained as part of the DHCP lease (or PPP connection in the case of PPP).
The user/ OP is actually using PPPoA, when i googled PPPoA.. seems he is using Cisco perhaps.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Point-to-PointProtocol_overATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode)
"PPPOA or PPPoA, Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) over ATM, is a network protocol for encapsulating PPP frames in ATM AAL5. It is used mainly with cable modem, DSL and ADSL services.
It offers standard PPP features such as authentication, encryption, and compression. If it is used as the connection encapsulation method on an ATM based network it can reduce overhead slightly (around 0.58%) in comparison to PPPoE".
Essentially the original poster removed the OpenDNS #s from his DNS server field in the TCP/IP tab (b/c they seem to make Adobe.com inaccessible to him)
removing them & allowing his router to "pick them up from the ISP" seems to solved his problem.
However he can not, find what the numbers are that are being utilized,
b/c they are not entered as usual in the Network, & part of the DHCP lease,
    or in Airport admin Utility.
I/ we wondered, if there was a Terminal command that will show what the
numbers are that are being used .
Does that help clarify what I mean? Sorry to be so long winded.

  • QuickTime Player Shut Down Automatically!!!!!!?

Recently I purchased the new iMac 27 inch late 2012 with OS X 10.8.4.
Later on, I learned that there is something wrong with QuickTime Player.
Every time when I tried to play a MP4 video, QuickTime Player shut down automatically.
I also cannot create new video, audio, and screen recording.
When I ever tried it, it again shut down by itself.
I saved the error message in TextEdit, and shared it here.
Feel free to take a look, and see if anyone know how to fix it.
    Thank you~

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain iMacs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Quicktime Movies Causes UI To Lock Up (Safari & Quicktime Player)

When a page in Safari has an embedded Quicktime Movie, it causes my computer to lockup. It will not respond to mouse clicks or keyboard input. The whole UI just locks up. Same with opening movies in Quicktime Player. I can SSH into the box, and when I run "top", I don't see anything pegging the CPU. The biggest problem is, Safari and Quicktime Player don't "crash", so no crash report is generated, and I have nothing to reference. I can issue a "sudo reboot" and the machine will restart.
If I set Safari to run in Rosetta, I experience no problems. Same with the Quicktime Player. However, Firefox work perfectly displaying Quicktime Movies.
I have the most current firmware and system updates. The problem is reproducible with a fresh user account, as well as with a clean system install. I even went to the trouble of zeroing the drive, and reinstalling a fresh copy of the OS. I tested pre updates, and post updates, and it is reproducable across all instances. This was all done in front of a Genius at the Apple Store.
    He was stumped...

I'm not a QuickTime engineer but I noticed that the QuickTime Plugin.webplugin first appeared in Tiger and version 7. It caused me some grief when using the Safari Activity window to find source URL's for QuickTime files in pages. Removing it allowed the URL to appear in the Activity window.
Now most pages use javascript (.js) files to display QuickTimme files so they don't appear in the Activity window.
I beleive that the plug-in is used by Dashboard Widgets (also html files) to do some kind of "voodoo" similar to the plug-in architecture of Web browsers.
I've just applied at the La Cantera Apple Store for a job. Is that where you "stumped the genius"?

  • ITunes & QuickTime Player Issues

For the past few days I have been unable to load iTunes. I have tried to reinstall both iTunes, but have encountered many problems. I have downloaded the latest version of iTunes with QuickTime Players from the iTunes website, and followed the installation procedures but when I click on the desktop icon I get the following error messages…
QuickTime failed to initialise Error # - 2095
Please make sure QuickTime is properly
    installed on this computer
I have tried to uninstall both iTunes and QuickTime using various methods including:
    Control Panel>Add or remove programs
    Cleaner>Tools>Uninstall
But am convinced neither of these methods has been successful as every time I attempt to uninstall and re-install from scratch I am unable to run iTunes and encounter problems with QuickTime Player.
Has anyone else encountered similar problems, and could anyone assist me in where I am going wrong and how I can get iTunes up and running again.
This is the last throw of the dice for me, as I have spent the best part of an afternoon and evening trying to sort this problem with no joy whatsoever.
    Thanks

  • .avi files crash finder and quicktime player after Flip4Mac component mess

The .avi files that are downloaded directly from my camera cause the finder to crash as it tries to preview, they will cause Quicktime Player to quit unexpectedly, and Final Cut Pro will see them as corrupt. The files still open in VLC so I know they aren't corrupt.
I think this may have happened because the stupid 'Flip4Mac' program suggested that I remove some conflicting components. I accidentally lost them and I'm not sure which ones they were.
I tried re-installing Quicktime 7.20, but that didn't seem to do it. Does anybody know which components I should be looking to re-install? Maybe the ones that commonly go with FCP and Quicktime? Or does anyone know which components Flip4Mac will identify as conflicting?

    http://perian.org for your AVI files.
Remove any browser plug-in that has an x in it's name as Perian replaces them (with better compatibility).
I don't use Flip4Mac but what I've read about it suggests it is used by WMP formats (not AVI).
AVI was invented by Microsoft and they discontinued the container nearly ten years ago.
