I removed association of iWeb to a personal site, now the personal site requires a log in.

Hi,
I am trying to set up my personal domain to forward with masking to my iWeb site.  Originally I had iWeb associated with my personal domain but I just disabled it because I didn't want subfolders showing in the URL window.  Now when I go to my personal domain (after setting up forwarding with masking through GoDaddy), Safari prevents it from forwarding and requires me to log in.  How do I fix it?

Have you tried clearing your browser's cache (Command+Option+E for Safari) and then reload the site?
Are you aware of the limitations that masking puts on your site?

  • .Mac "Start Site" not the top site in iWeb site organizer

My first iWeb site I created is for my family stuff. Mildly personal.
My next one will be more friends/work.
But, when I test out the iweb help entry that says the top site in the site organizer is/will be the start site, it does not hold true when I publish them.
    The help says:
Your start site is the one that opens when you type this URL (address) into a browser (don't type the brackets):
    http://web.mac.com/[YourMemberName]
    To change your start site:
Drag the site you want to be the start site so that it appears first in the site organizer.
But, after I publish, the start site is still the old start site. Is this a timing/web cache issue? Or, bug? Or, how can one fix this?

It could be a cache issue, but I think this is less likely. Never hurts to emtpy your browser cache though. I have seen one other person who's sites are stuck like this. Couldn't tell you why. She is stuck using the long URLs to specify each site. Maybe this is a bug in iWeb. I don't know.
But here are some things you could try...switch the order of your sites again in the Site Organizer, publish, switch them back and republish. Or you might try a "Publish ALL to .Mac".
The object here is to get iWeb to generate new index.html files that redirect to your choice of a start page. For a little background, if you look in your iDisk inside the Web folder. There is a folder called Sites. Inside Sites, there is a folder called iWeb. Inside the iWeb folder you will see the first of two redirection index.html files. This first one is what allows the short URL to work...
    http://web.mac.com/yourname/
Now if you open up the site folder inside the iWeb folder, you will see another index.html file among all the other files there. This is the second index.html file that redirects to the same start page as the first. This allows the "long" URL to be used...
    http://web.mac.com/yourname/iWeb/sitefolder/
I have seen situations where either one of these index.html files have not been generated or altered to reflect changes in the Site Organizer...usually the outer index.html file inside the iWeb folder. So anything that you can do to make iWeb publish new files should work....changing the order of your sites, erasing the files from your iDisk and republishing, changing the names of your sites, doing a Publish ALL. Try these things and see if your problem isn't resolved...
If you have found any of this information to be useful to you, please take the time to provide me with feedback by marking my reply as "solved" or "helpful" using those little buttons that you see in the title bar of this reply. I'd really appreciate it!

  • After I publish IWeb, unwanted hyperlinks show up in the published site.   How do I get rid of this worm?

I have noticed that no matter how hard I try to rid my published site of these hyperlinks (that I've never put in) certain words within the published site are highlighted and underlined and link to another source trying to sell something.  I've never put this in and think there is some kind of virus or worm on my Macbook Pro with Mountain Lion.  I've even deleted pages and started from scratch with a new page.  They are still showing up and multiplying.  HELP!  I'm on a Windows computer right now and don't know how to take a screen shot to show you how it works.  I hope my description is enough.

This has nothing to do with iWeb. These links are added on the server- probably due to the fact that you are using a "free" hosting service.
Contact your host to upgrade your account or choose another one with more appropriate facilities...

I am trying to log into my office imac remotely and cannot figure out how to input my "personal password" in the format provided.
How do you use the dashed display that only offers places to input a couple of letters?

Sorry you are having difficulty, an agent with access to your account will reach out to you directly by email, private message in the Forums and/or the billing telephone number on your Verizon account for more information to help you resolve your issue.

  • Iweb - does creating a new site delete the previous site?

I'm having a meltdown. Had my career website built via iweb some time ago, and tonight, was experimenting with iweb for a new website for another unrelated project. So I created a "new site," never suspecting that it would affect my previous website.
I wanted to see how the new site looked, so I published, and now my career website seems to have disappeared! Spent weeks building that site! (photos, films, etc.) Does iweb only allow for one website? It had a (slightly) different address when the new site published. But now my career domain name goes to the new unrelated website. The new site was a lark -- REALLY need my career website back up and running. Any way to find/retrieve it?
Is there no warning? -- if you go create a "new site" and go to publish, and the new site DOES replace the old, is there really no warning???

    scottnmarty wrote:
How do I get it back (as my iweb site and linked to my career domain site?)
Try publishing all the pages of your "career" site by clicking on its name in iWeb's left sidebar and choosing File > Publish Entire Site.
    See also this article:
    http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWebMultiplewebsites.html
...it says: +"When you will publish and upload to the same account entering your url in a browser you will be redirected to the site for which you hit “Publish entire site” last."+
    scottnmarty wrote:
And is there any way to save what I've done with the new website before I replace it with my old site???
It will still be accessible at:

    But read this:

  • Help with running iWeb on multiple computers and find the current site

I have two Macs and MobileMe. I have usually run iWeb on the laptop and have my website on it. I thought I saved the site in MobileMe. When I go to the desktop and open iWeb it opens up an old version of my site. I search for Domain and none of the options are the current site. On my laptop (the current iWeb version) I opened MobileMe's iDisk and tried a couple of the "Domains" that live on it and none of them are the current version. Now, I can't even get my laptop to open the one I had opened a few moments ago beacuse I can't find the newest domain. So, where is my current domain/ I can't find it.
I do have a folder on iDisk called "Sites" that contains the HTML files and folders of my current site but I can't seem to get this to open in iWeb. But, this folder does contain the current version but none of the Domain files I have opened refer to these I guess.
    What should I do?
    Guy
PS I am running the latest iWeb on both computers

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. As you know for both of you to edit and update the web site both of you must be using the same version of iWeb and working on the same Domain.sites2 file.
See MacWorld's online article Managing an iWeb site from multiple Macs. However, there are a couple of caveats: 1 - only one can be editing and uploading at a time; 2 - allow plenty of time for Dropbox to update all copies of the domain file.
What I would do is when you plan on editing the site copy the domain file that's in your Dropbox as a backup. Do you editing and publish. If something goes wrong you'll have the good domain file that was copied just before you started editing. If the site is small and, thus, the domain file the updating will be better insured. Keep both computers online much of the time so the updates will go thru as soon as they are made.

  • HT5364 How do I recover a site onto the top sites after removing it?

When you hover over a top site, a menu shows that can pin the site as a permanent top site and it can "never include as top site" does never mean never ever? How do I get it back? I dont want to reset safari either.
    Thanks

The eventual solution came about when I was bookmarking a random page using ⌘D  or the + button left of the url bar. I noticed one of the options of where to keep the bookmark is Top Sites; when I tried to do this with Gmail, it worked!

  • Publishing iWeb site to .Mac personal domain

I set up Personal Domain on .Mac & added the cname on my account with Network Solutions & are waiting for the changes to take effect now. But I have 2 sites in iWeb. How do I get the right site on the personal domain.

    Hi again,
My Problem is that it is not clear how to redirect mlwhall.com --> www.mlwhall.com
Since CNAME is for aliases, I am not sure how to point mlwhall.com since that is the root name. The A (host) will only take an IP address, so I assume that if I am going to do this I need to do it in the CNAME section (pinging did not get me a useable IP address). I cannot believe I am the only person that wants to do this -- setting up domain forwarding does not seem to work either
Is it not common for people to want to have www.blah.com and blah.com to resolve to the same place?
    ----Martin----
And yes -- I meant to say that I made a CNAME alias for www that points to web.mac.com as pointed out in the personal domain instructions.

  • I Can't Remove My Old iWeb '06 Website From the Web.

I can't remove my old iWeb '06 website, I have delete the original website files in my iDisk and even published a new website using iweb '08, but I can still go to the old website URL as well as the new one.
I have read the apple support pages on removing websites and unpublished website and none of them are of any help because my old website does not exist in iweb '08.
How do I eradicate my old site so nothing is left of it anymore and I have the space back on my iDisk.

I would prefer not to announce the URL to the world on this forum, but I can say the old website still starts with the standard .Mac URL http://web.mac.com/username/iWeb and the new one until I set up to use my own domain was the same I believe.
Empty the Cache has no effect I can still go to the URL and explore the various pages.
I do not think that the .Mac websites are hosted from the iDisk location as I have defiantly deleted them from my iDisk and I have rechecked every file in the iDisk for any sign of them also my new iWeb '08 website never appeared in the iDisk. I would presume that the .Mac websites are hosted from a particular location on the Apple servers and I need to some how pull them off separately because publishing another new site with iWeb '08 has just left me with two sites and the old one remains and does not exist in iWeb '08 so I can unpublish it.

  • How to get the Personas Rotator add-on to work with new Firefox themes?

Before Firefox changed from personas to themes, the Personas Rotator add-on automatically switched personas at a set interval (ie. every 1 minute). I presently have Firefox 12.0 installed as well as the latest versions of both Personas Plus and Personas Rotator but the rotator does not work.
Before it was necessary to sign into My Favorites for the add-on to rotate my favorite personas, but now when I sign in, there is no rotation. Only one persona/theme that is enabled stays on the screen. There is no automatic rotation.
Private browsing mode is not selected. How can I get Personas Rotator to work again? Thank you.

Good news! The Personas Rotator is now working again and switching personas automatically at 1 minute intervals.
It began working again after I went to the 'Appearance' tab under 'Add-ons' and removed all the personas listed there (these are ones I 'Added to Firefox' from My Favorites list which is accessed after signing in to the gallery).
But now I see that the personas that are presently being rotated are appearing in the 'Appearance' tab as well. I wonder if it will be necessary to 'remove' all these later to have them rotate again. Will post an update later for anyone having this same problem.

  • More than one site with iweb - now my original site forwards to new one

    Could anybody help me please?!!
Right. I set up a portfolio website using iweb with a domain from ipage, and that was all fine. Then a few months later, I have set up a website for my Mum's artwork with a new domain bought through the same account on ipage - because ipage allows you to have multiple domains.
Now that I have set up my Mum's site, my own original site just forwards straight to my Mum's. I have checked loads of times that I've entered the right web addresses etc in the bit for the info so that's all correct. I don't know what else to do now. I don't speak the code lingo and am quite basic in my website building knowledge...
Please if there is anyone who can tell me what to do, I'm guessing there's probably a simple solution to this!!
    Thankyou!!!
    Josephine
P.S I don't know if my version is iweb '08 but it was the only iweb one to select in 'product' options..

Here's how to have multiple sites in a single MMe account with one or more sites having a domain name.
    A. All sites are in the same Domain.sites2 files
1 - only one site can use the CNAME method of domain name forwarding and it must  the top site in the left hand pane of iWeb.
2 - the other sites must use URL domain name forwarding which directs the domain name to the site's full MMe URL, http://web.me.com/MMe_Username/Site_Name,  or, if there is no domain name, just MobileMe's full URL.
    B. Each site is in its own Domain.sites2 file.
Again, only one site can use CNAME forwarding.  This presents a problem since CNAME forwarding directs the domain name to the basic MMe account URL: http://web.me.com/MMe_Username/ which uses an index.html file in the root folder of the account, iDisk/Web/Sites. Each time a new site is published or an existing site uses the File->Publish Entire Site a new index.html file is created in that root directory, iDisk/Web/Sites folder, directing the browser to that particular site.  This file is what the CNAME method uses to find the site it represents.  Therefore some steps must be taken to assure that the index.html file in the MMe Accounts root directory always points to the correct site.  This can be accomplished is three ways.
1 - don't use the CNAME method.  Just use  URL forwarding .  This, IMO, is the simplest method as it doesn't requre any additional effort on the user once the domain name has been set up.
2 - use the following method suggested by Wyodor in this topic: Is it possible to have multiple sites when using ur Domain name?
    In iWeb domainfile 1:
Create a dummy site : _dummy
    with a blank page.
Create your working site : Whatever
    Add pages
Publish both Sites to the same same location on the same server.
Your _dummy site is now the default Site.
    Check.
    In iWeb domainfile 2:
    Create/Use your CurrentSite.
Move a page to the top of the Site and back. Publish the Site.
iWeb will create a new index.html file in the root of the server and from now on CurrentSite is the default site.
    Check.
From now on, never move your Whatever Site to the top of the list in the iWeb sidebar and never change the page in the _dummy site.
Simply do not touch your _dummy ever again. And never forget that.
3 - use Ethmoid's suggested method in Using two sites - setting one up with separate domain? or republishing the entire site that uses  CNAME forwarding.  Just making a minor change and publishing the site changes does not create a new index.html file.
The entire site must be republsihing in order to get that new site.
Or keep a copy of the CNAME site's index.html file on your Mac and replace it manually in the iDisk/Web/Sites fodler when necessary.
NOTE:  the CNAME method provides a shorter URL:  http://www.Domain_Name.com/Site_Name/Page_Name.  CNAME does not have masking.
The URL forwarding displays the full MMe URL:   http://web.me.com/MMe_Username/Domain_Name/Page_Name.   With domain name masking that will be shortened to:   http://www.Domain_Name.com for every page of your site.
However, with masking visitors will only be able to bookmark and enter at the first page of the site.  If a page is refreshed the visitor is taken back to the first page.  Also search engines will only be able to index the first page of the site.
As you know MobileMe will be discontinued next June 30th.  With at in mind this might be of some interest to you at this time: Life After MobileMe.

  • How can i add a special user to the "site collection administrators" of the personal site on sharepoint online when the personal site is creating ?

when a new personal site is created on the sharepoint online 2013, then the administrator of this personal site will be himself. we can add another person to the "site collection administrators", then this person have full control of this personal

Is anybody know how to do that?

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you want to add a special user to the "site collection administrators" of the personal site on sharepoint online when the personal site is creating.
    Per my knowledge,
there is no out of the box way to accomplish this with SharePoint.
This is a forum which is supported for SharePoint On-Premise.

  • How Can I Remove a Secondary Site When The Server no Longer Exists?

This organisation deployed a new SCCM site and then decommissioned the server before successfully removing either the site or the server/roles.
I tried to force the removal of the site which failed:

    Thanks.

I had the same issue and this is what they sent me... I used it and it worked for me.
    1.       Please follow these steps to manually delete the
Secondary Site from the Secondary site server
    2.       We also used the PREINST tool to remove the pending jobs.
    3.       On the ConfigMgr primary site (parent) computer, click Start, and then click Run.
    4.       Type cmd in the Open box, and then click OK.
    5.       At the command prompt, type cd\, and then press the ENTER key.
    6.       Type cd sms\bin\i386\00000409, and then press the ENTER key.
    7.       To remove any pending or active jobs to a site, type Preinst /DELJOB SiteCode , and then press the ENTER key.
    8.       We deleted the Secondary Site from the console of parent  site.
    9.       We removed the Sender Addresses from the Configuration Manager console, as explained below.
    10.   Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Systems Management Server, and then click ConfigMgr Administrator Console.
    11.   Locate the Site Settings\Addresses subtree.
    12.   Right-click the address for the failed secondary site, and then click Delete.
    13.   Then we cleaned the registry, by taking the backup of the HKLM Node

  • Iweb was not publishing changes to my personal domain name, AND now it won't let me publish at all!

Hi, i am new to the apple community so bare with me whilst i struggle to explain...
I recently purchased a hosting site through netregistry.net.  www.toyboxtherapies.com.au I spoke to them to allow the changes to the CNAME through their site. They did this for me. Once they did this my original 3 page site that I had published to mobileme came up.
When i added changes to the site, none of them were published even though iweb said they had been. I gave the site 48 hours (well, i gave them a week) to update the changes.
I went to double check today and now iweb wont let me publish to my domain name at all, it just lists File>Set up personal domain on mobile me.
When I log into mobile me my domain name is there. I have tried removing t and setting it up again, but nothing is happening with iweeb. Still the same problem.
Please help! I am trying to get this business off the ground and its all very frustrating!

This is what I see in a Lookup :
    ; <<>> DiG 9.6-ESV-R4-P3 <<>> www.toyboxtherapies.com.au cname +multiline +nocomments +nocmd +noquestion +nostats +search
    ;; global options: +cmd
    www.toyboxtherapies.com.au. 3600 IN CNAME web.me.com.
It means that the CNAME record points to MobileMe.
So go where you manage your domain and delete the CNAME record and change the  A-record(s) to point to your new webhost.
It takes some time for the changes to propagate thru the internet. A minimum of 20 minutes.
Note that when you publish to MobileMe, iWeb recieves the domainname information from the MobileMe server. Only when you publish elsewhere you have to enter the domainname. But if you do not change the settings where you host your domainname, it still directs to MMe. But that's beyond iWeb.
