I restarted my iPod Touch while updating to iOS 5.1, now it's frozen.

This morning I began to update my iPod Touch 4th gen to iOS 5.1. As I was walking out the door, I realized it hadn't finished updating yet, but I needed to get to school. So I restarted the iPod by holding the home button and sleep button for a few seconds, thinking it would just go back to how it was before I started updating so I could update later when I had wifi. This restarted it, and the normal Apple logo screenappeared, but now it is completely frozen with gray and blue lines across the screen. Is there anything I can do to save my iPod?

You likely corrupted the iPod by interrupting the update process.  Try connecting to iTunes and restoring it there. If iTunes does not recognize the device, try connecting it in recovery mode using the instructions in this Apple support document.

  • Why can't I stop and restart my ipod touch OS update?

Why can't I stop and restart my ipod touch OS update?
I'm working in West Africa, and iTunes says it will take between 8 and 11 hours to download the OS (5.0.1). But I never have that long a stretch of uninterrupted electricity or internet. Every blink off and I have to start again at zero. Bit torrents are already an old technology. What gives? Basically, I WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO UPDATE MY IPOD. And probably not my macbook.

Try a manual update as defined here:

  • Over half of other on my iPod Touch while updating new software...?

I am currently in the process of updating to the new 2.1 software
and when it did this, it wiped out all of my music.
So then I plugged it in again to sync all of my music to my iPod touch, when I noticed it has almost 7 GB of "other" already on it and I have a 16 GB iPod.
I have no idea what this other is...
Is anyone else having this problem..?

An "other" that large usually indicates that the "other" includes corrupted files.
    First try:
"First you go settings/general/usage/music/then left swipe over music and press delete and you would think it deletes your music but it doesn't instead it deletes your other but make sure your ipod is connected to a computer while doing this"
    as recommended by:
How do I get rid of "other" storage: Apple Support Communities
Next, usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: How to back up
To restore to factory settings/new iPod see:

  • IPod crashed while updating to iOS 5.1.1?

While updating my iPod Touch to iOS 5.1.1 (through iTunes on my Windows 7 laptop) my iPod was on the updating screen when iTunes had an 'Error' popup. Now my iPod is stuck on the updating screen, can't turn it off or anything. I can't restore it either, because iTunes AND my computer can't detect it now either (unplugged/replugged USB multiple times)  Any help or suggestions here?

    - Was therei an error number or more information in the error message?
    - Try rebooting the computer and try agains.
    - Next see if placing the iPod in Recovery mode will allow a restore.
    - Next try DFU mode

  • Most albums missing album art on iPod Touch after updating to iOS 7

    Hi there,
I updated my 5th-gen iPod Touch to iOS 7 yesterday.
As the activation servers were overloaded for most of the afternoon, the update failed for me and my iPod touch ended up wiped and in recovery mode.
I installed a blank iOS 7 and then restored my settings from the previous day's iCloud backup.
I then reuploaded all my music from iTunes to the iPod.
Most of the album art is missing from the iPod and it's making me very sad. All the album art is visible in iTunes, so this is rather confusing. There seems to be no consistency to it, between albums I bought on iTunes or albums I bought elsewhere and ripped to MP3 and added to my iTunes library, or albums for which I got the art directly from iTunes or by adding it myself.
I'm using a PC with Windows 8 and the latest version of iTunes, if this matters.
    Any ideas?

  • I updated to IOS 6 and now it is frozen with a picture of a cord to connect to ITunes

Hi I updated to IOS 6 on my IPod touch and now it is frozen with a picture to connect to ITunes

What happens when you connect the iPod to your computer and restore via iTunes?
If iTunes does not see your iPod
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

while updating ipod touch 4 i got an error message now stuck with apple symbol and empty bar. can i restart ipod?

    - What was the error message?
    - Try closing iTunes and then disconnect the iPod from the computer. Then reconnect the iPod.  If the iPod shows in iTunes then you can try again.  However, You should try to resolve the error message first.
    - If iTunes does not see the iPod try reetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - I recommend that you come back with the what the error message said and the condition of the iPod and if it is visible in iTunes.
