I restore and itunes tells me to restore on and on

Whwn I connect my 2nd gen nano to the usb port, it says on its display not to disconnect, after a brief moment a dialogue window appears on itunes and tells my to restore, confirmation window appears: "are you sure...?" - yes - it restores, the apple logo appears on the nano's display, the process seems to finish propperly, but in the end I get the same window again in which itunes tells me to restore, can anyone help me out

This might be caused by drive letter on your computer. Try assigning your iPod a different drive letter, following the steps here:

    Yes, you can use the same computer for BACK UPS, RESTORING AND UPDATING. But that is it.
    You cannot, however, use it to sync the different devices. iTunes will only recognize one device to sync with and if you sync any other devices with that iTunes library, it will replace what is on the phone with whatever is in the library. It cannot differentiate between devices. At most, it will jsut recognize that the phone has been synced with a different iTunes library.
    So if you would like to use the same computer for backing up, restoring and updating, just make sure to turn of Automatic Syncing in your iTunes Preferences.

    Your iPhone's iOS must be same or newer than the one in backups. In your case it is older so you need to update your iPhone and then recover it with backup.

    When I have done this, all I did was network the two machines and copy the contents of the iTunes folder to the other machine, and that's it.
    My understanding (which may not be 100% correct) is that the one file that is absolutely necessary is iTunes Library, and that the XML file is actually a copy auto-generated from the iTunes Library, appearing in a different format only for non-iTunes apps that take advantage of the iTunes Library data.
    As far as I know, if you simply have the Library (database) file and all your original music files, iTunes on that computer should operate as it did on your old computer. I believe that the Album Artwork, Genius Data, and XML files can be regenerated from the Library file. Not sure about the Extras file.

    Be good to know what the diagnostic results are.
    I've also just run into an issue where I couldn't restore an iPod with a corrupt file system, and the "super fix" in that linked article wasn't working for me. I've run across a potentially useful workaround.
    iPod Classic went on the fritz today just after syncing. Couldn't restore via iTunes, kept getting 1439 errors, Windows wouldn't format as FAT32, claimed the "Volume is too big for FAT32". Finally tracked down EaseUS Partition Master Home Edition (Free) and formatted as FAT32 with 128k clusters. The iPod is filling back up again. Might be worth a shot here...

    If itunes is comming up and saying it can't read the device because it's locked with a passcode, you may have to put your device into recovery mode first.
    To put your device in recovery mode: (Following these steps will erase your device and reset everything to factory defaults)
    1) press and hold the power button until you see the slide to power off option
    2) swipe to power off
    3) Press and hold the home button while the device is off and connect it to your computer. Continue holding the home button until you see a graphic with the iTunes logo with a picture of a USB cable below it.
    4) iTunes should give you a message that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click ok and then select Restore iPhone. iTunes will download a fresh copy of iOS and then wipe the device and restore it. Depending on the speed of your computer's internet connection this may take a while. Just leave the iphone connected to your computer until it's finished.
    If itunes is not detecting it at all or is Not giving you the message that the phone is locked with a passcode, you may end up having to reinstall itunes. This seems to be a fairly common problem after the most recent itunes update (11.1.5)
    If this is the case and you happen to be running a windows based computer you will have to uninstall itunes in this order from your programs and features option in control panel:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
    Then download and reinstall itunes from itunes.com try putting your device into recovery mode again and restore.

  • I RECEIVED AN ERROR MESSAGE THAT I COULD NOT MAKE OR RECEIVE CALLS AND I HAD TO RESTORE VIA ITUNES.  I HAVE DONE SO AND LOST LOADS OF APPS ETC (MY FAULT FOR NOTBACKING UP) BUT STILL UNABLE TO MAKE OR RECEIVE CALLS.

    Phone is only a few months old and was working fine last night - it ran out of battery but on being charged up this morning it was effectively locked.  I received an error message that I could not make or receive calls and I had to restore via itunes.  I have done so and lost loads of apps etc (my fault for not backing up) but still unable to make or receive calls.  Anyone had anything similar and can advise who I should contact or what I can do.

    Thanks for the reply. The Itunes trouble shooting in Itunes help. I don't get an error message, it just states can't see ipod like if it wasn't plugged in. I do get an error message on a few of the songs when sync that say error 50, and state that they can't be loaded to ipod. The weird thing is that I can load all of my libary except the latest 3 albums. They are in my libary but they won't load. I'm not sure but it seems like it started when the cloud came about from amazon which is where I buy most of my music.

    Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything...
    To minimise loss... Connect to iTunes on the computer you Usually Sync with and Restore from the most recent Backup...

  • Fixing iphoto and itunes libraries after timemachine restore

    I have corrupted libraries in iphot and itunes after replacing the hard drive and time machine auto backup.  I have tried the rebuild process with Iphoto several times.  I also have two profiles one started in 2008 with my original macbook purchase and a seperate one in 2009 when I traded in for macbook pro.  it seems the archive creted an iphoto library for both profiles and the old profile seems to have an intact library for iphoto but is not up to date on other files and newer content.  I think I have to manually recreate but I'm not sure how to do that and I'm not sure if I should maintain both profiles an get the newer one to work through the manual process or delete one. 
    Itunes is a slightly different issue - i can see and play my library through itunes but my sonos player cannot find/read the files - it did before the drive replacement.
    I'm also thinking of upgrading the operating system and also the ilife software - should i fix the issues then upgrade?  or upgrade and then manually transfer?

    You don't say which film you're struggling to download, I had problems with a-team and I ended up emailing the address on the leaflet, turns out they had a lot of problems  with people's codes,  they then gave me a new code to use! I have now managed to get the film downloaded?

    Maybe you rename it. Somehow the path to the songs have changed if not deleted.
    In Finder go to "Macintosh/Users/username/music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music" that's where all your songs located so if those songs are not there you get an exclamation mark. You can delete those entries in iTunes and re-import again.
