I restored my Ipod to factory settings but and am getting error when I sync

I have a U2 Ipod that I'm using with Windows. I rstored it to factory settings using iTunes. When it starts to sync my library after awhile it stops and I get this error message.
"Attempting to copy the disk "Josh's Ipod" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to."
Someone please help me!!! Thanks!

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? It may be of some help: "Disk cannot be read from or written to" when syncing iPod

  • How do I restore my ipod to factory settings, but I have a passcode lock, and my screen is broken so I can't type in my password when I connect to itunes?

Okay so I have had my ipod 4th gen for almost 2 years buy the screen has fallen out of the back casing, (I bought it as refurbished) and I am trying to reset it to factory settings, so when I get a new one I can register my device on apps/games since some apps require that you can only register on one device, but I think the thing that connects to the screen is ripped so the screen won't turn on and I can't physically touch it. What I want to know is how can I restore it with me not being able to type in the password lock since the screen is broken?
or is there a way to disable the passcode lock through the computer?

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

  • If I restore my iPod to factory settings, will I lose my music that has been added from other computers, even if I've backed up my iPod?

I'm trying to clean out my iTunes and iPod, and in doing so I've realized that I have over a gig of "other" material taking up space on my iPod.  One solution I was told about was to restore my iPod back to it's facotry settings (after you've backed it up) in order to help eliminate or help make the "other" section take up less space.  I'm worried about doing this however seeing as my iPod has music from three or four other computers on it seeing as I manually sync music to my ipod rather than have it sync on it's own.  I'm worried that even if I back the iPod Touch on my computer, that all the other music from the three or four other computers and iTunes' will be erased and only music left on my iTunes, on my laptop will be left over after words.  This wouldn't be such an issue if I didn't have litterally THOUSANDS of music to sort through between these four computers.
Also, does anyone have any other solutions on how to reduce the amount that "other" takes up on your iPod?  Thanks in advance!  Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure if you will loose your music or not, but I have a suggestion. If you sinc your ipod to your itunes, all the music from it should transfer to your itunes, it shouldn't matter whether it was downloaded on that computer or not. If you do this and then restore your ipod to factory settings and you do loose your music, then you can just sinc your ipod to your computer, or itunes account and then you will get your music back. I hope this helps. :)

  • "Itunes cannot read the contents of ipod. Go to the summary tab in Ipod preferences and click Restore to restore this ipod to factory settings." What is this?

I have been getting this error message since about the end of June when I updated to the latest version of iTunes. It's pretty annoying. Let me lay out how this has been happening for the past month, the best I can. I have a 32GB 4th gen iPod Touch
I load content up to my iPod. Music, Apps, Videos, pictures, etc.
My iPod works well for a little while, days sometimes a week is the longest I went without seeing this message.
I connect iPod back to my laptop through the standard pack in Apple USB connector.
I get the "Itunes cannot read the contents of ipod. Go to the summary tab in Ipod preferences and click Restore to restore this ipod to factory settings." message. When I go to the preferences tab, I click restore and iTunes gets stuck trying to restore my iPod. Then I have to uplug my iPod. And Shutdown/Restart my PC reconnect my iPod, and go through the restore process again.
I have been doing this for as I said, a month. It's getting pretty grueling to keep havomh putting cotent on my iPod after these restores.
    I've tried everything.
I've stopped autosync, it still happens.
I tried to reinstall iTunes(be it I didn't full uninstall before trying to install again and got the option to fix corrupted files and such
I've deleted all old back up, and it still happens
Today is the fist time I'm fully uninstalling iTunes, and then reinstalling to see if this works.
But do you guys have any otehr solutions for this? As I said, this didn't start happening until I installed the lastest version of iTunes 10.6.3

    - Have you tried another cable?
    - Another USB port?
    - When you have the problem, connect it to another computer to help determine if you have an iPod or computer problem.
    - Try just restoring the iPod to factory settings/new iPod. Do not restore from backup. If you still have the problem with this and all computer that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

On my ipod touch, i can't seem to get the imessage app.. I have updated my itunes and even restored the ipod to factory settings with the latest update. Maybe the ipod is too old? Is that even a thing? Is there another app I can download to have access to my contacts with imessage?

That comes with iOS 5 (Settings>General>About>Version) and only the 3G abd later iPods can go to iOS 5 or later

My Iphone 4 crashed and I lost my entire contact list. I restored it to original factory settings but in trying to restore my data from my laptop via Itunes.. this was the feedback: Itunes could not restore the Iphone Dr Johnny Siu Chong because the Iphone refused the request.
I cannot get help from Apple support because i am being asked to supply the serial number which is stored on the phone and I cannot restore my data in the first place. I am reluctant to "Set up as a new Iphone" since I don't know whether if I do I  may not then be able to access my data from Itunes...
Please advise what to do. I did not see any tutorials on Youtube to help me with this.
I look forward to an early response.

    Hey joshuafromisr,
If you resintall iTunes, it should fix the issue. The following document will go over how to remove iTunes fully and then reinstall. Depending on what version of Windows you're running you'll either follow the directions here:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    or here:

Unless you restored the iPod on this computer/iTunes library yoo may not be able to sync music and videos using the manual method.

  • I have restored my IPad to factory settings however cannot now get in as password is incorrect

I have restored IPad to factory settings however can not get now as password is not working.  I have tried the initial password and also using 0000.

The following pertains to an upgrade to iOS 7, but it does say something about the "Skip" link:
After installing iOS 7 you may be asked to provide a passcode; if you haven't ever defined one...
If you don't see the word "skip" in small blue letters try the following.  Otherwise tap "skip".
Enter any number and remember what it is.  See if this lets you in.  If so, go to Settings>General>passcode lock.  enter the number and then you can turn off passcode (a vary bad idea, as many have discovered when their devices were stolem) or turn off and then on using a different number.
If your device is disabled at this point...
Connect to your computer in recovery mode per the instructions in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212
You may need to do this more than once.

  • Restoring mini ipod to factory settings

please tell me how to restore factory settings so i can clear all music off my ipod.

Follow the instructions in this article. Before beginning, ensure that you have either a car adaptor, the iPod's power adaptor, or access to a computer with a 6-pin FireWire port. In some cases, an iPod mini will need to be charged with any of these three things before it can complete the restoration process, and you can't use it while the process is partially completed.

  • Randomly forced to restore my iPod to factory settings

I'm just about ready to give up on iTunes or iPod - whichever is responsible for my problems.
Two weeks ago I bought a 60GB Video iPod. After just a few days I had to take it back, as iTunes would randomly stop being able to read its contents. Of course, the only way to rectify the problem was to restore it to factory settings, meaning that I had to spend hours transferring my music back each time. It seemed to happen about every 4-5 times I connected the iPod to add more music.
Apple's tech support agreed that this was a hardware issue, and that my computer met the requirements, so I took it back to be replaced. I've owned my new one for about a week, and I've run into the same problem. I've just been forced to restore it so I have a blank iPod again.
I simply cannot work this way, as I use my iPod for teaching and need to be able to add files without having to start from scratch. I can't understand why this is happening, as I have reinstalled iTunes and the iPod updater to ensure I have the latest versions.
    Please help, I'm going insane.
    5G 60GB Video   Windows XP

Just as a follow-up to this...
I spent an hour on the phone with Apple's tech support yesterday. The person I spoke to was very helpful, and suggested that the cause of the problem might be that my computer's hard drives used the NTFS file system, while my iPod was FAT32. He helped me to reformat my iPod to NTFS and then restore it once more. He was convinced this would solve my problems.
While I agree that his suggestion was logical and may prevent future issues, plugging my iPod in today caused the same error message. Simply plugging it in has deleted much of my music (or at least rendered it inaccessable from my iPod's menu - I suspect it's still there as not enough time passed for it to delete that much music) and I can't add more until I restore it again.
Surely somebody's experienced this before? Bear in mind that this is the second iPod in less than 3 weeks to present these symptoms.

  • How do i delete an old iPad from my iCloud? I have restored the iPad to factory settings but it is still showing in my iCloud.

How do I delete an old iPad from my iCloud? I have restored the iPad to its factory settings and linked my new iPad however the old one is still showing in my iCloud.

    Hello Erin,
You can and it depends on what you are referring to. For example, are you wanting to remove you old iPad from the Find My iPhone feature, you can do that at iCloud.com and the steps for that are in the first article. If you are wanting to delete an old back up, then check out the second article to walk you through those steps.

  • I'm wanting to restore Safari to its factory settings but my Safari doesn't show the "Restore Safari" button for me to do that. How do I restore Safari back to its factory settings?

I'm wanting to restore Safari on my computer back to its factory condition but, for some odd reason, Safari is not showing me the "Restore Safari" button on my computer. Can anyone help me in this dilemma?

    Safar 8
Apple removed "Reset Safari" menu option in Safar 8.
In it's place there is "Clear History and Website Data".
    You can use that option.
    Best.

  • Itunes keeps telling me to restore my ipod to factory settings.

So I logged on to my computer this evening, and the iTunes icon was gone, so I used Search from the start menu found it and opened my library, When I did there was no music in it even though I have 103 songs, so I plugged in my ipod so that I could copy the songs on it to itunes and it opened saying I need to restore it. So I did and then it opened up the same thing over and over again.
So now I can't access any music on my ipod. Please help!

    Is this a sony vaio?
There is some Sony media management software that causes a conflict with itunes saving its library database file.
