I ruined my Samsung Galaxy s4 (water damage) I have a Samsung Galaxy s3 I wanna use for the time being cuz I need a phone NOW...how do I do it?
Anybody know where I can start with this?  I was just gonna call in and ask a tec but duh...I don't have a working phone?  Is there a link with step by step instructions?

It worked!  I did put my SIM card into my replacement phone and Sha-Zamh lol!   There are ez instructions as well when I logged into my Verizon acct.   I clicked on  "My device" then "switch my device" and followed just a few simple steps, with the final being switchin the SIM card, like you suggested.  I think  Verizon has to know what I was doing.  In order for this to be a success I needed to obtain my "something something number" which is located on my phone (the one I was switching over to)   Anyway, I appreciate your help, it led me right to where I needed to be, Thanks!

  • Just bout a iPhone 4S from cex 2 days ago. I took a video on the first day and only just realised the microphones never been working they told me I caused water damage and corrosion. Which is wrong. They sold me the phone as is what do I do to get it fixe

Bout a iPhone 4S 2 days haven't been near water took a video and realised yesterday that their was no sound. Took it on they came up with it was my fault the water had water damage and corrosion. I'm devastated that I've paid 250 for a phone that's not working properly what do I do too fix this

I have taken it back to the Apple store genius bar, but they say they don't see anything wrong. Well unless you use it all day and experience the problems when they happen, you wont see anything wrong. But there are lots wrong with it. But this would be the same store as I purchased the phone. And they backed up my old Iphone 4, but were not able to get anything to load back onto my new phone. So, I lost pretty much everything. But over time, some of my contacts have started showing up, although i am still missing over 800 of them.

  • Apple denies replacement due to apparant water damage, wetness indicator is white, iphone 5 has been searching for a network for 5 days and its never got wet

So my iphone is about 5 months old, over the last week it has been searching for a network signal. Yesterday i blew inside the sim tray to as i thought there was something stuckin there (stupid i know) but today apple denied replacement due to water damage. theres no water damage and the wet indicator is white. any advice on what i can do?? as i know it hasnt been submerged in water or exposed to water the phone was broken before i blew in it...the phne works fine its just not picking up a network

Take it back to the Apple store and ask for an explanation as to why they believe there is water damage.  They should be able to show a water sensor that has been affected.
If still unhappy with the explanation, ask for a manager.
IF that does not get a satisfactory resolution, contact Apple customer care.

  • My iPod nano had some water damage. I left it in a bag of rice for several months. Finally decided to plug it into my computer and it works but the screen is mainly white. I can see some of the details if I hold it at an angle.

In May I sent my iPod nano through the wash for a few minutes and then put it in a bag of rice. I decided to take it out today and plug into my computer. The computer recognizes it and seems to be charging and playing music just fine. However, my screen for the most part is white. If you hold it at an angle it is possible to see some details but it is very difficult. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what to do?

It sounds like the water may have damaged the iPod's LCD display.  You can try working through each of the recommended 5 R's of troubleshooting to rule out any possibility of a software glitch or data corruption.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
Sometimes it helps to the iPod's battery fully drain.  Then charge it back up and again and repeat the 5 R's again if necessary.

  • Iphone 4 was water damaged has had new battery as wasnt charging and new docking port and it comes on to apple logo now then off after 10 to 15 secs and reboots any help please

water damage iphone 4 was coming on when plugged in but not charging and not holding any power so changed battery it then worked untill battery power ran out and would not charge so changed the docking port and now it comes on with apple symbol and switches back off after 10 to 15 seconds like its rebooting and then just keeps repeating any help please

Help with what? Apple does not repair iPhones, they replace them. Apple does not sell parts. There are no legitimate sources for iPhone parts.
Talk to whoever did the initial repair.  Odds are the logic board is damaged.  It's probably time for a new phone.
Your phone is no longer eligible for a discounted out of warranty replacement.

  • Get a Samsung HDTV and ATV or wait for the latest model?

A newbie to HDTV, video and ATV.
I have almost decided to buy the Samsung 50" plasma HDTV PN50A650. But have discovered that Samsung has a new model PN50A760 with added capabilities for playing video and wireless networking.
Connectivity is an issue to me. Spending all the green on a HDTV, I do not want it to be obsolete in 4 years. What if I get a digital camcorder? Or Apple introduces a flat-rate movie-rental scheme? My options:
OPTION A) Wait a few months until the $500 premium for the new model drops.
Some excerpts for reviews of the latest 760 model:
"The 7 series can playback video content stored on a USB device while the 6 series are limited to images and audio."
(Naively, I thought that all HDTVs should be able to play back video.)
"The 7 Series can stream audio, video and pictures over your home network."
"The TV recognizes not only MP3 and JPEG files but also XviD and MPEG4 files to enjoy video playback."
"The TV can also reach out to your home network and play back photos, videos and music stored on networked computers. You'll need to install special software, included with the TV, onto your PC." This could be some very basic software. Suitable for Macs?
"While this feature seems pretty cool, it's not as good as similar functionality built into a PS3 or an Xbox 360, let alone that of a dedicated network media streamer like Apple TV. Despite being billed as DLNA-compliant, the TV won't play nice with DLNA server software like Windows Media Player 11 or TVersity, so you're stuck with the included proprietary software. Samsung's software is basic..." (Compatibility with Macs?)
OPTION B) Buy the older model and then, add ATV. The total cost will be less and I think, the video playback (through my iMac?) and networking capabilities (2Wire Wi-Fi) will be much better. But I see there have been problems between ATV and Samsung HDTV.
Isn't the combo with ATV a much more capable and flexible (and cheaper) long-term solution? Which Samsung is unlikely to match?
Thanks for your valuable advice! (Urgent for the X-Mas season!)

Winston, I think you're missing my points:
    1) If you're interested in a device for watching HD video, then you can compare the AppleTV and Blu-Ray. You then have to look at what other features they provide, or don't provide as the case may be, and decide. I was just giving my opinion on an alternative.
    2) There was no detailed information given as to what the streaming capabilities were and so I was giving my opinion again.
To say that there is little difference quality wise between current HD broadcasts (even if some are 1440x1080i) and the maximum output of the AppleTV at 1280x720 shows a total lack of experience on your part of watching HD broadcasts on a TV capable of 1920x1080, or a lack of appreciation of the better detail contained in the picture. It's like comparing AppleTV HD at 1280x720 with DVD PAL native resolution of 720x576 and saying there is little difference quality wise. But then if you look at the US market where 30fps is standard, the AppleTV cannot support resolutions higher than 960x540, and then you really are lowering the benefits of the AppleTV over DVD quality, and the difference between the AppleTV and HD broadcasts is even bigger.
I have compared video from HD broadcast at 1920x1080 with the same video converted down to 1280x720 on the AppleTV, and the loss of detail is noticeable, especially when watching on a 40" TV, not an uncommon size these days with them being used with games consoles. Before you comment, no it is nothing to do with how I convert them, there is just physically far fewer pixels available. I much prefer watching 1920x1080 through my Media PC than watching 1280x720 through my AppleTV.
Also, as we all know it happens, there is software available freely on the internet - no names will be mentioned - that allow the convertion of movies from DVD to a PC, and likewise from HD-DVD and Blu-Ray to a PC. So reality is that it's available now and with the cost of 1TB and 1.5TB HDDs so cheap, the potential for a 1920x1080 resolution video collection for playing on a 1920x1080 TV is already there. Saying it's not going to happen 'any time soon' is rediculous as it's already happening, albeit quietly, especially as talk of how to do such things is not allowed on this forum.
You keep using this phrase 'any time soon' without quantifying it. You use words like 'unlikely'. We live in a fast changing world. The world of televisions has changed dramatically in the last two years, whereby nearly all mid-priced TVs (both plasma and lcd) from about £800 GBP upwards now support native 1920x1080. Two years ago I paid over £1500 GBP for a 37" plasma supporting native 1024x720. You can now buy Sony OLED 11" TVs, which a couple of years ago were just being shown off as prototypes. In my opinion, OLED will blow away lcd and plasma tv sales within 5 years, and in my timescale, that is any time soon.
12 months ago I bought a blu-ray player for a PC, whilst people around me were going for hd-dvd. The format wars was predicted as not going to end 'any time soon' and no one could have forseen that within 6 months the whole blu-ray / hd-dvd argument would be over.
For your information, ABC in the US have been broadcasting in HD for over 10 years.
But as I keep saying Winston, these are my opinions. You're allowed yours and I'm allowed mine.

  • We could not complete your purchase. The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed. i've had this issue for the past 2 weeks!

i don't want to compromise the integrity of my current OS,(Lion) so please, no work arounds. I tried purchasing Mountain Lion but get the error message listed above, i've waited for 2 weeks hoping the bug would get fixed but it hasn't. Reaching out to the community, see if there's any update on this issue.

Update: i spoke to a very knowledgeable applecare representitive who walked me thrue the process, we were trying to figure out what exactly was preventing Mountain Lion from installing & (after a process of elimination) it turns out you need to be log in as an Admin to download it, we also made sure everything was up-to-date. Downloading Mountain Lion took about 40 minutes (with roadrunner high speed internet, DSL might be a bit slower) once it was downloaded the installation process was very intuititive with just a few clicks and about 35 minutes i had the latest Operating System.

  • Water damage - replace battery?

I stupidely managed to drop my Iphone 4 into a toilet the other day, leaving it for the time being useless. I did a lot of research online surrounding the topic, and left it in a sealed bag of rice for a few days. Ensuring it was completely dry, i tried to power it on with no luck. However, when i plug it in the charger, the Apple logo appears, sometimes blinking. I also manage to get the screen where it asks to plug it into iTunes by holding down the home button. I then tried to restore it in iTunes, but an error message was shown.
I have then unscrewed the cover on the back, and taken out the battery. Despite the battery being out, all of the above was still possible, meaning it is being powered by the charger alone.
Does this mean that replacing the battery with a new one could solve the problem? Or should it have been able to boot up fully using only the charger if it hadn't been in the water?
    Any answers are much appreciated.

Replacing the battery in a water soaked iPhone is worthless. The water is going to cause corrosion which will cause the iPhone to become inoperative with or without a new battery.
Instead take it to Apple and get an out of warranty replacement for it. Expect to pay for the replacement.

    That was a mistake...
Find a competent repair shop. If you had not opened the phone, you could have gotten it replaced by Apple for $149. They won't touch it now.

  • Hp is saying suspected water damage

I have a hp dv6, i was working on my PowerPoint at my desk and the computer shuts off with no warning. A power chord will not power it back on. I called hp, they sent a box out, I have a factory warranty on it. I called and talk to someone who says that there has been water damage that caused my motherboard to crash. I'm pissed I'm paying 36,000 a semester and now I can't pass my classes because all of my finals and papers were on that computer. I paid about 1,400 dollars for that computer I only had it about 8 months. I have never put water to my computer or I would not have shipped it I am so angry someone needs to replace my computer. My computer shut off while in working on a 30 slide PowerPoint there was no water involved ever. The computer just randomly powered off.

    Hey,
"A power chord will not power it back on. I called hp, they sent a box out, I have a factory warranty on it. I called and talk to someone who says that there has been water damage that caused my motherboard to crash."
So does HP plan on replacing the notebook for you. What did they do to help you out ?

  • IPhone survived serious water damage. A success story!

I just wanted to let people know about the survival of my partners' iPhone 5 when faced with a 40 minute cycle in the washing machine at 30degrees.
We realised that the phone had been accidentally packed into a full load after about 40 minutes. We managed to cancel the wash and drag all the soaking wet clothes out.
Found the phone and immediately tried turning it back on (something I later read was probably a bad idea - but you don't read this kind of thing until its to late!) the screen remained black with no apparent life whatsoever.
After looking on the Internet for cures it seemed the most popular thing to do would be to seal the phone in a air tight container full of uncooked rice. We did this and left it on top of the boiler in the boiler cupboard where it would be warm. We were warned against taking a hair dryer to it.
In the meantime we contacted Apple to see how much repair would cost (we had no AppleCare) and we quoted something like £300.
After a full 4 days we took the phone and tried turning it on. Still nothing. I'd read somewhere that the phone shouldn't be plugged in to a charger but thought it would be worth a shot. After a couple of seconds the 'empty battery' 'please plug me in' symbol flashed up...there was life.
10 minutes later we checked the phone and yes, it was charging and yes it turned on! The phone received a load of backed up messages, connected to the Internet and most apps were working fine. Not all was working, the camera shutter wouldn't open and the screen looked very wet or damaged.
Hanging onto this miracle we decided to unplug the phone to avoid any issues and put it back into hibernation in its box of rice. After 2 more days the camera and all other apps were working perfectly. There was still an issue with the display. It looked better but still not 100%. We called a cowboy phone repair company to ask whether they could do anything with it, they believed there might be a corroded connection in the display and suggested speaking to Apple. Apple would fix it for £150. After further diliberation we decided to give it some more time to dry out.
Over 10 days we returned to the phone to find an almost perfect screen. Unless you tilt it to an angle there would be no sign of water damage. Success! Lets just hope it holds out in the long run.
I wanted to give anyone who has taken water damage to their iPhone some hope that with some patience you can save yourself a lot of money by just putting your wet phone in a box of rice in a warm place and leaving it for 2+ weeks. Even after a thrashing around a washing machine.

Hi WildTort! I would like to know if your phone continued to work? Did the camera ever start working?
I did the exact same thing: sent my iPhone 5 through a full wash cycle, set it into rice for almost 2 weeks, it's now working (everything except for the camera) although there are a few 'issues' with dropped calls and other blips.
Do you think I should let it sit for  a longer time without being turned on, or should i take the whole thing apart and try to clean it of corrosion in alcohol?
(I have only a month to go before my contract expires)
    thanks for your help!

  • Restoring photo with severe water damage

A friend of mine asked me to restore the attached photo (of her dad) which has suffered severe water damage (I have erased the gentleman since I have not asked for permission to share the photo with others). Fortunately the person's face is intact but everything else is damaged. The peak in the background is the Matterhorn in the Swiss Alps and the photographer chose this clever angle so that the person is almost as large as the peak. I know how to use spot healing and the clone stamp but my biggest problem is that the outline of the peak has been obliterated. I tried boosting the contrast with a layer and had only limited success on the right but none on the left.
    My question two-fold:
    1) could you suggest a  method to reveal more of the mountain outline and
    2) if guessing is the only choice left, what is the best way to draw the edges of the mountain peak
In passing I mentioned to my friend the possibility of inserting her father in a stock photo of the Matterhorn but "a fake" just won't do because this photo holds very special meaning for her.
Any advice you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I revised my steps and added more info about the gradient. Hope this helps.
    1. Add a blank layer and apply a Layers Mask to it.
    2. Select the mountain.
    3. Activate the mask and fill the selection with black. The mask now shows the black silhouette of the mountain.
    4. Important!  Delete the selection (Ctrl-D).
Now to create the sky using a gradient. The purpose of the gradient is to create a natural-looking sky ranging from light gray at the bottom to dark at the top.
    5. Set the Foreground and Background color chips (at bottom of toolbar) to light and dark grey respectively. I used RGB values 220,220,220 for the Foreground, and 160,160,160 for the Background.
    6. In the Gradient Editor select the Foreground to Background Preset, and on the tool options bar choose Linear Gradient.
    7. Click the layer's thumbnail to activate the layer, and draw the gradient vertically upwards. Because of the mask the gradient does not cover the mountain. The degree of the light-to-dark transition depends on the gradient's start and end points, so you might have to redraw the gradient several times until it looks natural. You can redraw over the existing gradient; no need to start from scratch. In this example I drew the gradient starting from the center of the picture all the way to the top.

  • HT3302 My phone got water damaged but it still functions well the speaker though did get damage unable to hear while placing a call. Is it fixible? i havent purchased the apple care warranty.

How much is the cost for repairing a device with water damage but has no apple care insurance.

For clarification Apple will do an out-of-warranty replacement for water damage regardless of the damage. If a truck runs over it and it is in many pieces in a bag they may not replace it.
deggie, sorry to disagree, but I've had Apple Stores tell me (as well as Apple's Repair Depot) that if the water damage has gotten too severe (such as causing excessive corrosion inside the device), they may opt not to allow the OOW replacement.  It's always at Apple's final discretion whether or not a device is or is not BER (Beyond Economical Repair).  Basically, if there's not enough worth to salvage from the device to make it worth Apple's time, they can refuse the OOW replacement.
It's wiser to prepare for the worst and then be delighted when the reality is better.

  • Battery/water damage

About a year ago i dropped my iphone 4 in the bath. I put it on the radiator over night and it was working fine up until about 5 or 6 months ago. The battery started draingin really quickly. Last week i woke up to find my phone was off which i found wierd as it had been on charge all night. Even though it was on charge it wouldnt switch on. I thought my phone had completely gone and put it down to when i dropped it in the bath. However i plugged it into my coputer at work using the usb and eventually it came on saying battery was 100%. If i take it off charge and use it it will ususally go off again within minutes but once plugged in again will come on and say 100%. Sometimes it will take hours to come on when plugged in other times just a few minutes. It is never on in the morning when its been on charge all night but will eventually come on once iv been messing about plugging it into different plugs etc. Anyway my question is, is this down to water damage? if i buy a new battery will this sort the problem or is my phone completely gone? it works fine when it actually comes on!

The computer has battery-charging circuitry which could have been damaged by the rain.  Too, I suggest that you carefully use a small hair dryer to assure that the battery cavity - and the nearby areas - are thoroughly dry.
