I run iPhoto 6.0.6 and am about to upgrade

so wanted to back up and check all was well. I just found that the Library is not showing all my pictures. The missing ones are for 2011 and they are in Finder, all sorted beautifully by date, album and roll. Why aren't they showing in Library? I opened iPhoto with Option and Command keys depressed so rebuilt but no diffrence. What else can I do?

It is automatic. What's wrong is that your Library is corrupted.
Options now:
Restore from back up or start over from scratch.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 6* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

If you have an external drive equal to or larger than your internal HD, clone your internal to it with either Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper. Test the clone to make sure it's bootable. Then upgrade either one. Try it out first.

I advise you to wait a little (except for the SL install) till after the first update of Lion, which is expected very soon. Also make sure that all apps that you want to run are Lion compatible.

Running IPhoto on One Computer and Viewing Pics on Another

I have the new ILife Suite installed on my Power Mac G5 and my wife would like to be able to view the photos stored on my computer on hers. We have an Apple TV and this works seemless, so I am thinking that there has got to be a way to do this. To make a long story short, I am simply looking for a way to keep the libraries in sync or at the very least allow her to view all the pics on my computer on her laptop. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

TD -- Thanks for the input -- here is what had been working fine with iPhoto 6 .... same version running on both Macs. I always injest photos into my Mac -- then sync with hers. I have a MacBook so am often away, and she wants to be able to see them, and often I am organizing/editing while away so I don't want them static at home. (also sync to Apple TV from her Mac)
When it was rolls instead of events it seemed to work ok ... when I "show contents" of the package on her Mac library though with new version, I can see the new events I have created and split off, but they don't show up when I open iPhoto on her Mac. And now I have multiple of the same events in our libraries as I have tried to sync a couple times. All the photos are there (duplicated it seems) just not organized the same way.
Thoughts?

You need to have iTunes 10.5 installed to be able to put iOS5 onto your device.

Time Machine did massive backup after installing/running iPhoto '09

After installing iLife '09 and running iPhoto '09 on Wednesday and Thursday morning, Time Machine proceeded on Thursday p.m. to perform a massive backup (103GB). This is interestingly the same size as my iPhoto library. The library has about 40,000 pictures in it. All I did in iPhoto after installing it was check out Faces (took 5 hours to initially create the Faces thumbnails) and Places. I did not import any new pictures. Today it is now doing a 23GB backup. I have used iPhoto some more since the 103GB backup to name more Faces, but haven't done much else on my Mac in that time.
How do I determine what exactly was backed up - to verify my suspicion it backed up my iPhoto Library? Is the backup performed only on the files that are added/changed, or entire directories that get files added/changed in them?
Have I effectively lost 103GB of backup space as I certainly did not add 103GB of new data?

It seems as though any folder/file changes will prompt Time Machine to do a backup of those items. Even simple changes, like a rename or relocation. Although it would not backup an entire directory if only a file/folder inside had the changes done. If that makes sense.

I would assume so. You are the first post I've seen to comment on iPhoto '09 (at least here in the Time Capsule section), so I'm interested in getting your future responses. I know with iPhoto 6 (iLife '06) that those who upgraded to iLife '08 got entirely new backups like this when they converted their library. So we'll see if that is the case again.

Sorry about that, yes, 10.5 and 10.6 on Intel can run Firefox 4.
Here's the process to roll back:
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, download and save Firefox 3.6 to your desktop for future installation. http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older
You could install Firefox 3.6 over Firefox 4 (many have reported success) or you could uninstall Firefox first. If you uninstall, do not remove your personal data and settings, just the program.
Firefox 3.6 should pick up where you left off. If there are serious issues, please post back with details.
Note: I haven't actually tried this myself!

I have a Mac Desktop that is running OS 10.10.1, I am trying to upgrade my iPhoto to 9.6, but nothing happens after the perceived download. I even retarted and still my iPhoto is in not available, why?

I have restarted the computer after the download and still no change.

So what exactly did you copy over? If it's a 12 gig iPhoto Library then it sounds like the files are there. Perhaps the copy went wrong along the way.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Now visualize the 'page' but WITHOUT the margin and the entries in it. It just disappeared while I was editing photos.
I've tried all the 'File', 'Edit', 'View', 'Share' 'Window' & 'Help' options, but no success.
There is no apparent way of calling up onto the screen any photos, folders etc. because I can't get the margin and its contents back onto the iphoto page.
I've tried restoring the page from my backup, where it is all perfect, but that didn't work.

The "link related" and "text related" crashes were what I interpretted here, too, though I'm at a loss on how to proceed given that this is a fresh system and applications. This is happening with multiple InDesign projects in a design office environment where many others work on the same files and none of the other computers are having problems with these files. I've removed the same files listed (thank you for those) before and did so effectively with creating the new user account to test with, but it had no effect. I just tried again though, as these files could easily have becone corrupt again if they were being written to when InDesign crashed. Will let you know if that makes any difference. I've also gone through and completely cleaned out the fonts again and once more cleared the font caches. If need be I'll reboot this system into safe mode and try that way.
