I saved a backup on my iMac. Is it possible to "move" this backup to another computer, so i can connect my iPhone to my new computer and restore all things on my iPhone?

I used to have an iPhone full of all the greatest pictures of my life, the apps i enjoyed the most, and all my numbers to my friends and so on.
Now i have to change computer (The iMac still works) and i wonder, is it possible to move the backup (whereever it is found on the computer) from the iMac and put it onto my new HP laptop?
IF YES: Where is the backup file saved on the iMac?

If you still have the iPhone just download iTunes for Windows and sync your iPhone (do one last sync with the Mac first).  To answer your question the location on your Mac for your media is at /Users/yournamehere/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music  Your contacts and pictures would need to be exported from iPhoto and the app you were using as your contact manager (Address Book, Outlook)  The backup file is located at /Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup

Yes.  However, the backup file does not necessarily contain everything on your device (music, some purchases, some photos) so you want to make sure all items are backed up and transferred for safekeeping first.

You will need to copy the backup file from one computer to another:

  • My iPhone has crashed. Can I transfer my back up files to another computer and restore my iPhone from these back ups?

My iPhone 3GS crashed and now only displays the usb to iTunes screen. I came to connect it to iTunes. My computer is currently unable to connect to the internet for unknown reasons. When I plugged my iPhone into my computer, iTunes displayed an error message saying “The iphone software update server could not be contacted”.
I assume I need to download and update the IOS on my phone, for which I need an internet connection. I have a laptop with internet connection. If I connect my iPhone to iTunes on my laptop, (a different itunes library) then  will it result in the loss of my photos, videos, contacts and messages as there will be no back up to restore from?
Is there a way I can transfer the back up from my PC to my laptop, so that when I connect my iPhone it is restored to the state of the last back up and I don’t lose photos/videos/contacts/messages?
    Any other solutions?
    Thanks

PDF documents are not "in a Adobe reader app"; they are just files stored on your device.  You can transfer them as you would any other files.
If the device is still active, you could upload them to https://cloud.acrobat.com/ to share with other devices, but if it's deactivated you will probably need a cable or similar connection.

Had 3G, moved to 3GS.  Backed up 3G and restored 3GS from backup with no problem on a Dell computer.  But now when I want to add songs, I get itunes message of death that the new iphone is synced to another computer and now wants to erase everything.  How can I add music without erasing everything on my new iphone?

Yes, I was aware of this but the phrase "Any items imported from audio CDs or acquired from other sources will not copy from your device to the iTunes library." is what worries me.  Will this eliminate my Notes, Calendar Events, etc or will it apply mostly just to the music?

make sure it's not being connected to by any of the other two
one can only connect 1 device at the time and just by waking up sometimes a headset connects to a device
    automaticly
then forget the bluetooth device in OS X and put the headset in pairing mode / discovery mode and connect with it once again with the mac

No. When you restored the backup of the old computer it wiped out everything on the phone.

    - The iTunes backup that iTunes makes included photos in the camera roll. If yo go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices what is the date of the backup? Is it when the photos were on the iPod? You have to restore from that backup.
    - What may have happened is that you backup the iPod after you restored the iPod but before restoring from backup. iTunes only keeps one backup and overwrites the previous backup with the changes.

  • My laptop hard drive crashed - when I go to sync my iPhone it says that my phone is already synced with another computer and can only be synced with one computer at a time.

My Dell laptop hard drive crashed - when I go to sync my iPhone it says that my phone is already synced with another computer and can only be synced with one computer at a time. When I hit sync is says it will erase my phone and sync with the new computer which is blank. How do I get my phone to sync my contacts, pics, apps etc. over to my new hard drive without losing anything.

Yes, so what's confusing... Did you not restore the backup of your data, contacts, pics, apps, music, etc. to the new hard drive after you replaced it or reformatted it or whatever you did? If so, then you can just sync your data back.
If not, please try searching the forum. This has been addressed hundreds of times here.

Be careful, when you connect the iPhone to your mac, unless you have saved the photos. Synced photos may easily  be accidentally deleted by syncing again. And do not enable iCloud Photo  Library (Beta), that will erase synced photos as well.  Synced Photos are not included in the device backups.
Set your iTunes Preferences to "Devices > Prevent iPos, iPhones, iPads from syncing automatically".  Otherwise iTunes may launch and sync your iPhone with an empty iPhoto library the moment you connect it.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to sync the synced photos back. Apple recommends to mail them back, but that would be a lot of clicking (iTunes: Syncing photos - Apple Support). You could also share them to a Shared Album, but a third party app like TD recommended, will be better.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod/iphone/ipad:  File>Transfer Purchases

Sorry, unless she backup up the new phone before or is using iCloud to save the photos, the photos are gone.

  • Ipad backup to another computer

    Hi,
Ipad is full with photos,apps...and is synced with PC (1). Now i connected to my Mac (2). I understand that i cant sync with 2 computers. but what i want to do is - my friend wants some movies to his vacation. I want to make backup on my Mac for his ipad, the sync with my itunes to get all movies into ipad... and after that vacation, i connect ipad to mac and restore all info that was there before.. is that possible?

The movies are not contained in your iPad's backup so that would not work anyway. This is what is backed up in iTunes from your iPad. When you sync - movies are transferred to your iTunes library but they are not contained in the backup it self.
Why don't you copy the movies to an external drive and then let your friend copy to his computer and then import them into his iTunes library and then he can sync them to his own iPad.
The information below was copied from this support page
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4079
    About Syncing and Backups
You can use iTunes to sync content on your computer (such as music, applications, podcasts, videos, photos, notes, email account settings, contacts, calendars, and bookmarks) with your iPad.
iTunes creates a backup of your iPad when you sync, which you can then use to restore from if you need to return to a previously backed up state. Except for some specific exceptions noted in parenthesis below, you can also use a backup to transfer this information to a different device.
iTunes keeps only one backup created during the sync process for each device. If you restore the iPad and choose to set up as a new device from the Set Up your iPad screen, iTunes will automatically sync and create a new, empty backup that will replace your previous backup. If you change your mind and want to restore to your previous state, you will have to retrieve your previous device backup from Time Machine (on your Mac), or other backup solution you regularly use. If you have Mac OS X 10.5.5 or later and use Time Machine, you may use Time Machine to find a previous backup.
    Information iTunes will back up
Safari bookmarks, cookies, history, and currently open pages.
Map bookmarks, recent searches, and the current location displayed in Maps.
    Application settings, preferences, and data.
    Contacts.

    Autocorrect dictionaries.
    Camera Roll.
Home screen layout and web clips.
Network settings (saved Wi-Fi hotspots, VPN settings, network preferences).
Paired Bluetooth devices (which can only be used if restored to the same iPad that did the backup).
Keychain (This includes email account passwords, Wi-Fi passwords, and passwords you enter into websites and some other applications. The keychain can only be restored from backup to the same iPad. If you are restoring to a new device, you will need to fill in these passwords again.)
    Managed Configurations/Profiles.
MobileMe and Microsoft Exchange account configurations.
App Store Application data (except the Application itself, its tmp and Caches folder).
Per-app preferences allowing use of location services.

  • Re:iMac remotely accessed from another computer and location?

Can you access an iMac remotely from another computer and location if there is knowone to switch it on?

    Barbara,
Both are legitimate concerns, I'll address each as best I can.
As for the the power issue, well that's going to be the case with any computer. We have many choices, most of them impractical for example take your house off the grid, put in your own power source (solar or wind powered) which clearly for most of us is totally impractical. The next thing would be a backup-generator like a hospital or other mission critical facilities (police & fire houses) have. While this is more practical again it's stretching the limits again for most of us. So the next thing is a healthy battery back up system that can maintain power to a computer for several hours if necessary. While they are still expensive they are far less expensive than the first two solutions. Of course you can set the energy saver settings to power on your computer after the power comes back on if even the UPS battery goes dead. I haven't tried this remotely however I think it might work.
Next is security, DropBox and Logmein both address this themselves so I would recommend looking into their solutions. Personally I find them trust worthy and don't have an issue. Even if you use MobileMe you would still have the same concerns, and how about Google, and all the other major players. To me Google while it's a vast resource and extremely helpful if for some reason they decided to become the Evil Empire they have far more access to your information that anything. Anytime you do a simple search they are collecting information about you. For example let's say you are looking for ATM's in a new city, they can capture your search and if they were evil enough they could track your every step. Is this far fetched and ridiculous, of course it is but it is possible. However this is the case with any Internet based computing, if you use some basic common sense for the most part your data is pretty secure. I'm much more nervous about the minimum wage clerk at Taco Bell taking my credit card information than Google, Apple, Logmein or Dropbox doing so.
