I saved quite a few .webloc files to share with a colleague

now i realized that she cannot open the links because she uses a PC.
i understand that i can use some tricks and convert those .webloc files to .url files.
but is there a more native way for windows users to be able to read the .webloc files.
either that or can i program my mac to generate .url files in the future.
searching here or via google did not solve this issue for me.

I believe if you drop them on an open IE window IE will open the URL.

how to combine a few PDF files into one with Adobe reader?

    Hi aho,
You would need either Acrobat (link to free 30 day trial) or our PDF Pack subscription service to perform that task.
What can I do with Reader?
Let me know if you have further questions!

  • How can I make Firefox stop setting all downloaded files to "Share with nobody"?

For the last few months, every file I download with Firefox has its homegroup share option set to "Share with nobody". All my user accounts are administrator level, I have the sharing set properly in the destination file, and I am using FF 27.0.1. I have set the "scan when done" and "save zone information" to false in about:config. I have always had FF set to ask me where to save a download every time, and I've only had this problem recently. A couple topics said that this would be fixed in 27, but it is not for me.

The problem is created by using the temp folder, which is locked to the current user. Instead of copying the file from the temp folder, pasting to the desired download location, then deleting the file from the temp folder, Firefox uses a faster move command (when the destination is on the same drive as the temp folder). That move command does not rewrite the permissions to match the destination.
I think someone tried to work around this by making the permissions on the temp folder more liberal, but I don't think that worked or at least I don't recall anyone proclaiming success with that. (I don't think it's possible to force Firefox to use a folder other than the system temp folder.)

  • Why does iMovie quit constantly when I try to Share with Media Browser? I want to burn this movie!

iMovie quits ALL THE TIME when I try to Share with Media Browser in order to burn the DVD.  Why? What can I do? Is it becasue I bought a refurbished Mac? I burned a DVD from another project only a month ago.

I don't know why it happens, but if you read messages around the iMovie Discussion Group it seems to happen to a lot of people. The easiest way around this is to Share to Media Browser instead of Share to iDVD directly. The Media Browser is a 'holding area' for video you want to use in other iLife Apps (including GarageBand and iDVD). When you Share to Media Browser, choose the Large size. Then let it run until it finishes. Quit iMovie.
Open iDVD. Create a New Project, Select a Theme. Then click on the Media Button. Click on the Movies button below the Media Browser. Your project will now appear under the iMovie star icon just drag that project into the iDVD project window. This should bypass the problem you were having by sharing Directly to iDVD.

  • How to scale down few jpeg files (Photo size) with automator at once ?.

I want to create an automator workflow to select all the jpeg files in a directory and scaled down at certain percentage (to be specified at begining). Please advise

    Hi Kimball,
It is simple as using a batch file renamer. they will add an extension for you in batches. Once they are done, then import into iPhoto.

  • Cannot find my custom swatch files to share with InDesign

I have created some custom swatch files in Photoshop and would like use them in InDesign as well - but I can't find them! They are always there and available for use in PS, but I cannot find them anywhere on my hard drive. The "Color Swatches" file under "Presets" in PS contains just the swatches that came with the software; I have searched the hard drive for other *.aco files or folders containing such files, but turned up nothing.
    Any ideas?
    CS4 and Snow Leopard.

  • Is icloud suitable for a business that would want to upload many big files and share with other people?

I work in a media porduction company and am researching cloud storage and find alot of them look good on the surface but there are plently of addional costs for how much cloud storage i want.
How much storage space can you get with Icloud?
    Costs?
Can i upload from external hardrives?
    Can it be assessable anywhere?
Can i share files with clients?

iCloud does not offer any of these facilities: it is for syncing personal email, caledars, contacts and photos taken on any one device to the other devices. There is no general file storage in the manner of Dropbox or the late lamented iDisk.
Probably you have already examined the available options but this page may offer some information:

  • When I OCR two versions of the same document and then compare th documents in Acrobat Pro XI, I usually get the message that there are no changes to mark.  However, I know there a quite a few number of changes.  I raised this question more than a year ago

When I OCR two versions of the same document and then compare the documents in Acrobat Pro XI, I usually get the message that there are no changes to mark.  However, I know there a quite a few number of changes.  I raised this question more than a year ago, and the response I received had to do with the quality of the OCR and the scans of the documents.  However, if I use Acrobat Pro XI to save the same documents in Word and then run a comparison in Word all of the changes are marked.  When a PDF is saved as a Word document in Acrobat Pro XI, is a different OCR module being used than the one used in Acrobat Pro XI for text recognition?

OCR is only for recoginition of the image / picture of text provided by an scanner.
Content typed into a Word file which is converted to a PDF is (in Word and in PDF) *not* an image  or picture of text - it is the digital text. So, no OCR involved.
When the "digital" (renderable) text of a PDF's page content is exported to Word no OCR is involved.
When a PDF's content is from the image output of a scanner and this is a picture of text then OCR comes into play.
If this content is exported to Word before doing OCR then it is the image that is exported to the Word file.
Once OCR is performed it is the OCR output that is exported.
OCR output is (always will be) impacted by "the quality of the OCR and the scans of the documents".
Regardless "Compare" is based on a Word file output to PDF1 then edits to the Word file followed by an output to PDF2. You use Acrobat Pro to do a compare of PDF1 & PDF2.
Paper 1 scanned to image 1 to image 1 in PDF1 that gets OCR 1 and
Paper 2 scanned to image 2 to image 2 in PDF2 that gets OCR 2
being processed with Acrobat Pro's Compare can certainly be done.
But - well you've described what can be observed.
    Be well...

  • I received pictures in a dozen emails and saved each picture into one file in .pages.  I did not import the photos before doing this and now iPhoto won't recognize the pictures because they are in a .pages file.  How do I get the pics to iPhoto?

I received a dozen pictures in a few emails and I saved them all into one file in pages.  I just copied and pasted.  I do not have the originals any longer.  Iphoto will not permit me to import the pictures as it does not recognize a .pages file, nor can I simply click and drag from the pages document to iphoto nor from pages to the desktop to iphoto.  How can I save each picture I guess back into a jpeg and then import them into iphoto or have i lost them to a pages document forever?  This is urgent as I need the pictures made into a book on iphoto for work by Friday!!!  Please advise!  Thank you.

    Greetings,
Locate the Pages document wherever it's located on your computer and click once on it to highlight it.
Go to File > Duplicate to make a backup copy of the file.
Click once again on the file to highlight it.
Go to File >  Get Info
In the "Name & Extension" category remove the ".pages" extension and put in ".zip".
Close the info window and double-click the now renamed pages file (zip file now).It will decompress into a folder which contains all the base components including all the images you added.  These can be dragged onto the iPhoto icon to import them.
    Hope that helps.

  • Powerpoint 2013 throwing 'File in Use' errors when saving to a network drive, file is NOT in use

One of our sites is having a strange issue when saving to a network location in Powerpoint.  I'm not sure it's a Powerpoint problem, but it's a place to start...
When saving a ppt to a mapped network drive (the client is running Windows 8 / Office 2013, the network drive is a DFS share, pointed to a Server 2012 machine if that matters), users will almost always get the following error:
"Someone else is working in (filepath\name) right now. Please try again later."
This happens regardless of where the file is being saved on the network drive, in fact it happens even when there is no pre-existing file with that name in the location.  So, even if I'm saving a brand new copy of test.pptx to F:\Share\PPT where there
is not currently a test.pptx, I get the error.
Word, Excel, and all other tested apps save properly.  Powerpoint can save correctly to the local computer, but not to the network drive or to My Documents (which redirects to the same network drive).
When the error pops up, if I look in Open Files in Computer Management on the Fileserver, I see the file I'm trying to save listed as being open, but it shows 'Disconnected' rather than a username.
Any suggestions would be appreciated - again, not sure that this is a Powerpoint problem - could be Windows 8 or some mysterious DFS thing...
    Thanks.

    Hello,
Been having a very similar issue in our environment and just came across this thread while Googling and looking for answers.
In our case, we have Windows 7 clients and 3 main files servers - 2 are Server 2008 R2, and one is Server 2012.  We use PeerLink File Collaboration to sync the files between
the servers (similar concept to DFS).  For us, it seems to happen specifically with Excel 2013, and only when saving to the Server 2012 file server.  I can reproduce the message pretty much every time.  After seeing your post,
I tried it in Powerpoint just out of curiosity, but it saved properly - Word saves properly as well.
Been doing a bunch of testing to try and narrow it down, and this is what I've found:
    Excel 2013 -> Server 2012 = error message.
    Excel 2013 -> Server 2008 R2 = no error message.
    Excel 2010 -> Server 2008 AND Server 2012 = no error message.
<o:p>We've been leaning towards the PeerLink replication as the culprit up to this point, but last night I did some testing with the PeerLink Collaboration turned off, and
still received the error message.. so now I'm even more confused!
I see that it's been a few months since your post..  have you made any progress here?</o:p>

If i try to eject it, Finder acts up and I have issues saving projects or even browsing files. I feel like it interferes with iPhoto as well because it says it is locked and I have no rights to view it. I wanted to see if anyone else had/s this issue and how you fixed it before lugging it into the apple store and being without a computer for a few weeks...

A few other suggestions here as well:

  • Webloc files from drag and drop

Ok, before I start, let me say, I know this probably isn't the best place to post this, but I really don't know where else to ask.
For YEARS I have dragged images out of (generally) firefox (but also safari) windows/tabs and dropped them into my maps folder. The file has always been saved as a .jpg (or similar) file. I only grabbed a world map the other day, no problems. But today everytime I drag the map out of the tab into a folder I get a webloc instead. These are images of maps, not a google map type iframe. But it doesn't matter what I drag out, it's always being saved as a webloc file. I click on it, it open in firefox and I see my map, but I want the image, not this webloc file.
Did the internet change and not tell me? hehehe
Is there a secret setting that's been tweaked, and can I tweak it back?
    Message was edited by: madivad

Well, this is getting ore weird!
ON one mac, it drags as a gif, on another it drags as a (wait for it....) .inetloc!!!! ***?
Some things are now dragging off as webloc and others as inetloc, there seems to be no consistency. I've figured there must be something running on the troubled mac which is interfering with the procedure. I'm going through things now looking at it (no luck so far). I'd just reboot, but I have a protected document which I'm completing and can't reboot until I do...
    ...some time later...
Ok.... I've rebooted and everything seems to be back to normal. This has been really weird!
The problem didn't care what browser I used, Safari, Firefox or Chrome, but now, as I said, it seems to be fixed.
Disregard and thanks for your time!

  • Opening *.webloc files in Firefox on Windows

when will Firefox on Windows support saved *. webloc files from Firefox on Mac?
    This is ridiculous :/

    Thank you for your reply.
I i can drag & drop a website from Firefox on Mac onto my desktop and reopen it in Firefox in Mac AND Safari Browser, why i cannot open them in Firefox on Windows.
I can drag and drop URLs from Firefox on Windows and reopen them
So what's so wrong about adding support for these kinda files making them work vice versa?
I'm working this way because it's easier and faster and more organized for many reasons when exchaning URLs.
Reason 1.: (keep things organized and in focus)
If i send somone many many web documents (research), there is much more information at first sight, rather than copy pasting the URLs itself plus having to add a description to every URL.
For example this particular page here where we are on it describes itself in the web document name:
''' opening .webloc files in Firefox on Windows Firefox Support Forum Firefox Support'''
read it > double klick > open in browser tab > done
    or else
    '''https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/761091'''
if converted to text only (e-mail, etc.) then i have to > mark url > copy/paste > add in browser.
    Understandable?
But, hey, there is no reason for a reason because there are so many reasons. Fact is that a file which was created from Firefox should work Cross Plattform.
Or du you think i will stay with the external "webloc2url" Perl Script Application forever dragging webloc files from FF on Mac one by one?
If there is a single person who can write a Perl Script application converting/re-writing webloc files to correct URLs and open them without the hassle, why a company like mozilla can't do implement the code into FF?
Go and Google all the complaints about webloc files from Mac.
    I mean, ehm ...

Can you download large files from other places apart from the App store, wondering if it is the App store or your internet connection.
If it just the app store check this url http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact/

    Hi,
We are developing quite a few excel worksheet reports.
The reports dont show the cells if contain formulas ( when opened in iPad or ipod  ),
Is there any good solutions .
    Thanks.

There is no version of Excel for iPads.  iPads come with something that lets you view the contents of Excel files but it implements only the common easy features and there are (literally) hundreds of things you can do in Excel that it doesn't know how to show on the screen, including some functions.
If you intend to work with spreadsheets on an iPad I suggest you buy Numbers for iPad
    http://www.apple.com/apps/iwork/numbers/
which understands more (but still not 100%) of the things that Excel does.  It is so cheap that you can probably afford to buy a copy just to see whether it does what you want.
If you are doing things with spreadsheets and intend to be primarily working on iPads then I suggest you actually use Numbers on a Mac as well, rather than using Excel at all.
