I don't think any conversions are needed, just get yourself an external USB 3.5" floppy drive and drag the documents onto your iMac's HD. You should be able to locate one on Ebay or maybe even Amazon. To open them you will need something that reads .doc files like Pages, MS Word for Mac etc..

Is there a "MP3 Normaliser" for Mac? I used to use MP3Gain, and need a Mac app now for it.
Im busy getting all my music organised, tags, alum art, names, folders, lryics etc, and I want to normalise all the MP3s to one level.
I have in the past used MP3Gain for windows, now I use a Mac, I dont want to have to copy all Mp3s to Win XP (boot camp) then copy them back once MP3Gain has ran.
I have found MP3Gain port for Mac, but it doesnt show the gains, and what it is ging to do, and am not usre if it chnages the encoding of the file, I know the Winodws version of MP3Gain didnt do this
Please help, this is the last step in me organising for my iMac, iTune and iPod, is there ayny other apps for tis? on Mac

When you say you found a MP3Gain port for the Mac were you referring to MacMP3Gain?
It seems to be doing nothing more than acting as a front end UI for the command line MP3Gain. In fact if you tunnel through the directories you can find the command line MP3Gain and simply use that if you're comfortable with it. This means though that as far as I can tell it isn't re-encoding anything but merely altering the gain flag associated with each frame (or whatever they're called). In fact there seems to be no reason why a reset function couldn't be added easily into the UI part as I have succesfully used the command line to alter the gain and then remove it from some test mp3 files.

I love Apple computers, but I may not be able to get one for my next laptop because of compatibility problems with Microsoft for Mac. Whenever I work on something for school on my Mac using word or PowerPoint, I'll bring it to school on a USB the next day, and the font, layout (and in PowerPoints, the timing) will all have changed. It annoys me so much!!! My Microsoft for Mac is completely updated so why isn't the latest version for Mac compatible with the latest version for PC?? It doesn't make SENSE!

Outlook 2011 for Mac: where are 'Suggested Contacts'?

Hello,
I have a MacBook Air 1st Generation (A1237), with OS.X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).
Have installed MS Office, including Outlook 2011 and everything works fine.
However, I don't see the 'Suggested Contacts' folder in Outlook.
Auto-complete works fine, but I would like to add to my contacts some of the addresses I find when auto-complete makes suggestions.
I looked everywhere, but I can't find the Suggested Contacts folder or the list of addresses auto-complete retrieves from.
Can you help? Is it an issue with my 'vintage' Mac?

Thanks Julian for the suggestion. Unfortunately all still checked out and nothing amiss. However, after reinstalling OS 10.6.8 it appears that my calendar items are syncing once again, but not my contacts. I appreciate the suggestion none the less.
This same thing seems to happen each time I've upgraded Office with the associated version of Entourage, and now Outlook. Ah, well..nothing's ever simple. But I am thoroughly enjoying Outlook and the rest of the Office suite.

that depends on your taste though. I would only suggest it if in-ear earphones are your drift. the main difference is the noise-cancelling capabilities of a in-ear headset. i would suggest going to a store that samples the headphones for your own taste.

hi,i use logic pro 9 and cubase to record,produce and master audio recordings and have bought a mac as recommended.have upgraded to 8gig memory (which i was told was the maximum you could upgrade a macbook pro)and still my recordin is slightley behind plauback.i need to replace my hard drive with a solid state drive to solve the problem.i have seen on youtube how to replace the hard drive but have noticed on the disk partition information that there is a 500gig harddrive for the system(booting up ect)and a 500gig harddrive for data storage,are these the same unit?i need to be sure im upgrading what the system uses to an ssd as well as the data storage or the problem wont be solved.i have an external hard drive so i have been looking at a smaller,faster ssd. hope you can help!

We have not been able to use the Manual Duplex Feature of our printer for quite some time. In the past we simply saw, in the Print dialog box, a check box option next to 'duplex'. This was available when using the Mac Text Editor, or our Microsoft Office for Mac tools (Word, Excel, etc.) or even printing webpages from the Browser. First Im thinking that maybe we dont have the most current printer software (seeing we have upgrading our MAC OS software regularly as new releases come out). Can you help me determine where I can find my installed version of the HP print driver, what the current version should be, and how to download the latest copy if I need it? I obviously dont want to re-install the driver if I dont need to. Next, lets address where I can turn the duplex option on. Is there a setting on the printer itself? I have looked at the System Preferences of the HP software and dont see any options. I have also looked at the specific print options under File / Print of the appication I am in (see list above). Ive read some solutions off the HP Forum page and they dont help either (the options discussed are not applicable to what I see on my computer). I understand you are having an issue selecting the manual duplex print setting for your HP LaserJet Pro M1217nfw printer on your Mac computer running 10.10. I'd love to help you with this. Firstly, do you have the most recent HP Printer driver update installed? If not you can download it from the App Store here - HP Printer Drivers v3.1 for OS X Then, I'd recommend removing and re-adding your printer, to make sure you are using the correct driver (10.10 will often default to using an AirPrint driver which does not have a manual duplexing option). Click the Apple icon on your menu bar.Select System Preferences, then Printers and Scanners.Select your M1217 and click the (-) button to remove it.Press the (+), and then select Add Printer or Scanner. (NOTE: You don't want to add the printer as a "nearby printer" even if it is listed there)Select your printer from the list of available printers that loads.Make sure under "Use:" that it lists the printer name (not AirPrint), then select Add.Try printing your document(s) again.Please respond to let me know if we've resolved this issue!Good luck.
