I see in PS CC 2014 the Oil Paint filter is missing!

Actually it was taken out on purpose - any chance there is a filter out there that will work?

If you're on Windows, there is this free plugin (never used it myself).

The Oil Paint Filter in Photoshop

I too object to the oil paint filter being removed in CC 2014. It was extremely useful in a number of different ways, so I used it a lot. And especially irritating when I pay so much for the CC subscription to hear Adobe needs to dumb down the cool and useful features in favor of keeping other older less useful filters.  Weird.  So now I have to go back and forth between the old and new versions of PS to do what I want….

  • Can I copy and paste the oil paint filter from CC to CC 2014 in the corresponding folder? What else I need to do to make it works?

Sorry, but that's a no.  Google Photoshop CC 2014 FAQ to find out why

Where is the OIL Paint Filter in CC 2014?  why the heck would they remove it?

You will find the Oil Painting Filter in Photoshop CC.  It has been taken out of Photoshop CC 2014.
So if you have Lightroom Creative Cloud, you should have both Photoshop CC and Photoshop CC 2014.
I have been looking for it for 4 days now, and I just found it.  I am so happy.

  • In photoshop CC 2014 where did the oil paint filter go? it is the filter i need for almost every photo

I cannot find the oil paint filter anymore in the recent version, it is not hidden in the paint galleries. I hope that Adobe did include it otherwise i cant use the updates anymore....

You ARE going to put it back aren't you?
    Won't happen.
You'll have to use the just-released 3rd party filter.

"Oil Paint is a very cool filter, but relied on a very large and complex code library used for an outdated technology (Pixel Bender) that is no longer supported.
Update/note: It looks like a 3rd party has released a full PixelBender-esque plug-in that will work in CC. Haven’t tried it myself, but may interest those who liked Oil Paint and PixelBender: http://aescripts.com/pixel-bender-accelerator-for-photoshop/"

  • The Oil Paint Filter is gone from PSCC2014.  What replaces it?

I am disappointed to "not" find the Oil Paint filter in PS CC 2014.  But all the old old filters are still available.  I am on a trial basis for CC.  Trying out LR....and PSCC

The desktop icon looks like this
And when open it looks something like this (except you will only see Photoshop, Lightroom, and Extension Manager )

  • What's become of the oil paint filter?

I'm not sure what I expected when CC '14 came out the other day but suddenly having an entirely new version of PS installed wasn't exactly it. That's of no moment but I have to ask, where did Filter... Oil Paint ... in PS CC 14.2 get to in PS CC 2014.0.0? I'll be truly aggravated if it's gone ...

    It's gone.

  • Problem opening the oil paint filter

When I try to open the oil paint filter (either CS6 or CC), I see the dialog open for an instant and immediately disappear. There are no error messages, PS doesn't crash - the filter just fails to run.
I'm not finding any similar problems in searches. Others who've had problems with this filter have been told to upgrade their display driver - mine is already the most current. It would help if there were at least some error or warning message with a clue as to what's going on. I am certain I've used this filter in the past, but probably not since CS6 was new.
I'm running on a desktop system, Windows 7 with 32GB memory and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 with 1 GB graphics memory.
I haven't notice any other problems in Photoshop with other filters, etc. Any ideas?

I backed out to the previous driver level - still no joy. It's not the best software behavior to not display any sort of message pointing to the cause or at least confirming it's detected a problem. (Speaking as a computer engineer with 30+ years of complex software system design experience.)
Not sure I want to go further backward in drivers. Where do I go from here?

  • How do I find the Oil Paint Filter?

I work with Adobe Photoshop CC on a Windows 7 32 bit PC. I'm a newbie.
I am looking for the so called Oil Paint filter. Every manual says: Choose Filter > Oilpaint. No way.  It's not there!
    I searched all sub-sections, useless!
Is it lost? Has the Oilpaintfilter recently been removed by Adobe? Am I doing something wrong?
I am stuck. I appreciate your help!

As a result of doing some "architectural spring-cleaning" and adding "cool new features" Adobe has decided to remove the popular Oilpaint filter...
    Not exactly.
Oil Paint relied on Pixel Bender.
John Nack on Adobe : Pixel Bender comes to CS5, adds Oil Paint filter
Adobe discontinued Pixel Bender claiming lack of adoption from the developer community. The developer community overwhelmingly rejected that assertion and pointed the finger back at Adobe. Clearly Adobe lost interest in Pixel Bender.
John Nack on Adobe : Pixel Bender discontinued in PS, AE CS6]
Bottom line is that the Pixel Bender language is history so it was removed from CC 2014 along with the filters which relied on Pixel Bender, the highest profile casualty being the Oil Paint filter.

  • I have the free trial photshop cc. where is the oil painting filter at? i cant find it

i have the free trial photshop cc. where is the oil painting filter at? i cant find it

As of CC 2014 the filter no longer exists. Several features were removed, some had to with flash as Adobe is supporting html5 over flash. It can still be used in CS6 and CC

  • I can not get the oil paint filter to work in photoshop CC

Can anyone help me with getting the oil paint filter to work in photoshop CC. I have a high end gaming card for video but it still does not seem to be available. Help. please!

You must be running Photoshop CC 2014.

As a Cloud member you can still keep CC installed for when you need the Oil Paint filter.

  • The "oil paint" filter in CC2014

How can I get the "oil paint" filter in CC 2014? It was in Photoshop CC, but it's gone in CC2014

If you open the Application Manager, and use the Filter drop down and select Previous Versions. You will then have the option to install the original version of Photoshop CC, and or CS6.  You can install either or both of those along side CC 2014, and they both have the Oil Paint filter.
Jeff Tranberry explains why some filters and extensions no longer work with CC 2014, but more and more extensions are becoming HTML5/CC 2014 compatible, and we might find that the next version of Photoshop (2015) will have an oil paint filter.  Certainly a lot of people have asked for it.

  • Is the oil painting filter available on photoshop cc?

Is the oil painting filter available on photoshop cc?

    Hi Raptortom,
Yes oil paint is available in Photoshop CC version. It has been removed from Photoshop CC 2014 however.
Thank you for posting on Adobe Forums.

  • I cant find the oil paint filter in the filter tab. Is it not availlable in the free trial version?

I cant find the oil paint filter in the filter tab. Is it not availlable in the free trial version?

If you have your Creative Cloud Desktop app open, go down to "Find new software" and from the drop down "filter by" menu, choose "previous versions" and under Photoshop, there is another drop down menu with a choice of versions 13, 14, and 15. Select 14 and you should see an install or try option. Click on that and CC with the oil paint filter will be added.

  • Don't know which version of Photoshop to get, I need the oil paint filter.

I'm a new designer and on class I did some really cool stuff with the oils paint filter and I LOVE IT, it will be a great part of the style I want to develop but I'm on a CC trial and it is not there! I've done my homework and have found out that apparently the latest version of CC has eliminated the beautiful filter! Go figure!
I want this filter BADLY, so what are my best options?
Adobe has so many products and versions that I'm really confused about what to get.
So should I get CS6? Or is there an older version of CC that has the oil paint filter?
I also saw somewhere there's an oil paint filter or plug in the CC but only for windows and I'm on a Mac.
    Please advice
