I seem to have two library folders.

One in Macintosh HD and the other in my use folder. What should I do?
Thanks,
Mark

This is correct - all is well. One Library is for the overall system (all user accounts). The other one is just for your user account.
luciano991,
Just to elaborate with one example. If you install a browser plugin in the /Library folder that plugin will be available to every user account on your machine. If you install that plugin in the ~/Library folder (your user folder) that plugin will only be available to you and no one else. Useful knowledge to have if you share your machine with others.

  • I seem to have two home folders?

I don't know how this happened (perhaps when I upgraded to Tiger?), but I seem to have two home folders.
The “real” one has the “house” icon and is in the proper place: Macintosh Hard Drive > Users > tim (my username). The duplicate does not have the house icon and is at the root level of my HD.
Both folders have mostly the same contents: ViaVoice, Sites, Public, Pictures, Music, Movies, Desktop, Documents, Library. The differences are that the “real” home folder (the one with the house icon) has icons on all of the subfolders too, while the “fake” one has blank subfolders. The real folder has the actual contents of my desktop in its desktop folder while the fake one does not. The “fake” home folder, however, has a crossed out pencil icon at the top of the window (meaning the folder is unchangeable?).
Is it safe to delete the “fake” home folder and how do I do so?
    Thanks.

It should be perfectly safe to trash the "fake", as it cannot possibly be being used, after checking (you've already done it, I'm sure) that it contains nothing you want.
Have a Finder window open so that you can see the "fake". Launch Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities) and type:
    rm -R
    Type a <space> after the R
Drag the "fake" folder into the Terminal window. The folder will not move, but the line in Terminal will now be completed with the path to the "fake". Hit <return>.
If the "fake" has gone that's it. If there is an error message in Terminal then do exactly the same, but using:
    sudo rm -R
…<space>, drag folder. After hitting <return> you will get a "password:" prompt. Type carefully (it will not show on screen), hit <return> again. Poof!

  • Disk full have two "library" folders which one can I delete?

Hello I am suffering from lack of disk space problem and I noticed that I have two libraries. One located in system folder and another is directly on the volume. Each taking about 4 gigs space. Are they both needed? Which one is safe to delete?
mac mini Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Both are critical.
/System/Library/ tends to contain many of the core operating system components, including most of the kernel extensions and boot files. Without this folder, Mac OS X won't start.
/Library/ also contains many system-critical files, with the difference that it is meant to be a modifiable repository of resources available to all user accounts on the system. Third party fonts, application support files, system-wide preferences, software updates, etc. and many other things are stored here.
Neither of these should be deleted; they contain different information and are not redundant of each other. In fact, you'll find a third Library folder inside your home folder which also shouldn't be deleted. This contains all your personal settings, which you'll definitely not want to throw out.

  • Two library folders

I was working on a plug-in issue (Aperture) and have come to the realization that I have two library folders for my OS.
The first is in the root directory of my hard disk  [hard_disk]/Library
The second is under the same hard disk, but is then under /users/[username]/Library
In both locations, I have a sub folder called /Application Support/ then various application folders are there.
Am I supposed to have two Library folders, and/or am I supposed to have two /Library/Applications Support folders?   The contents appear to be different in each.
As a note, when I set up this computer, I copied files and folders over from our previous iMac which was running regular Leopard.
    Thanks,
    Mark

Actually there are three Library folders, and yes they are supposed to be there.  These folders contain similar items, but operate at the different levels of the OS - the /System/Library folder is for system files, the /Library folder is for items that apply to all users, and the /Users/you/Library folder has stuff that only applies to your user account.

  • Q: What is the difference between two "Library" Folders?

I have two Library folders on my system, one in the "System" folder, the other a stand-alone folder with an icon on it in the open HD next to the "System" folder.
What is the difference between these two Library directories??? I have some files in each that are duplicates.
What should actually be inside each folder? I have had many crashes and it may be due to this duplication of software files fooling the system (?).
    Please help...Thanks in Advance,
    Diane

Actually, you have three Library folders:
    /System/Library/
    /Library/
    /Home/Library/
There is no "duplication" of files although there are similar folders in each. Each Library folder belongs to a user hierarchy.
/Home/Library/ folders belong to each "standard" user on the computer. Each user has a /Home/Library/ folder. Standard users can only access their Library folder and no others.
Some users are "admin" users. Admin users can access the /Library/ folder and some user folders, but not user data.
Last is the System Administrator. The Sys Admin can access the /System/Library/ folder and any other folder on the computer. Also sometimes referred to as the "root" user or "super user."
WARNING: Do not mess around in these folders. The only folders in which you may have need to access are in the /Home/Library/ folder. These would include Preferences, Preference Panes, Contextual Menus, and Applications Support.
If you are having crashing problems it could be due to any number of things. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on troubleshooting OS X.

  • Adobe Illustrator CS3 swatch folders - I seem to have two?

I notice that I have two swatch folders.
    One appears in:
    C:\Documents and settings\all users\Application data\Adobe Illustrator CS3 settings\Swatches
    The other in:
    C:\Program files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS3\Presets\Swatches
Why are there two different swatch folders?
Do I have them stored incorrectly on my C:\ drive?
    Thanks

  • I seem to have two apple id's. How do I get rid of one?

I am trying to access the Cloud to find a lost document, but I seem to have two apple id's, one is verified. I can't access cloud. How can I do that? Is there any other way to find my document? It means another week of work if not.

    Hi SGayleC,
It appears that your iCloud account on your Mac is still associated with the old email address.  On your Mac, In System Preferences, are you able to click on iCloud and sign out of your old account?   If so, you should then be able to sign in with your correct Apple ID and password.
I'm including some information on this below, and a link to our Apple ID support team if you need it.
OS X Yosemite: If you sign out of iCloud
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH18999?viewlocale=en_US
OS X Yosemite: If you sign out of iCloud
If you sign out in iCloud preferences, your iCloud mail, calendars, reminders, notes, and documents stored in iCloud are removed from your Mac. If you have photos in My Photo Stream that aren’t imported, they’re removed from your Mac. Your bookmarks and Reading List remain in Safari, but the iCloud Tabs list of webpages open on your other devices is no longer available.
When you sign out of iCloud, you’re asked whether you want to keep a copy of the data for Contacts and Safari passwords. If you keep copies of the iCloud data, iCloud doesn’t keep the copy up to date with changes on your other devices.
Copy iCloud documents and data before signing out
Before signing out of iCloud, you can copy or archive iCloud documents and data to your Mac.
iCloud Drive: For instructions on copying documents to your Mac, see Store documents with iCloud Drive.
Documents and data you copy to your Mac aren’t kept up to date with changes on your other devices.
After signing out of iCloud on your Mac, you can still access your iCloud documents and data on your other devices set up for iCloud and on iCloud.com. If you sign in to iCloud again on your Mac, your iCloud documents and data reappear on your Mac.

  • I seem to have two icloud accounts--how can i consolidate?

I seem to have two iCloud accounts--how do I consolidate?

If your second account is actually an iCloud account with data in it, as opposed to a login for iTunes, iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match (which isn't actually anything to do with iCloud itself) you can sign in with it in System Preferences>Mail, Contacts and Calendars and its data will appear alongside the main account. (You can't use PhotoStream and a few other facilities with this secondary account, and you don't get 'push' email, only checking at intervals).
If the second ID is in fact only for iTunes just go on as you are: there is no conflict about doing this and you won't even notice as Keychain will log you in with the correct ID in each case. It's also better security not to have your iTunes login also your email address, given the number of complaints about hacked iTunes accounts.

  • In my firefor options window I have two zipped folders one allows me to brows and see what is inside the other does not give me this option. how can I see what is inside please?

I have had MyWebSearch install itself as my primary browser....I have needed to reset Firefox in safe mode but I am not sure that the changes have actually been done! In Options in the Options menu the window displays all the add on's and features that are on Firefox....I have two zipped folders here One allows me to see inside the other does not. How do I access this one that does not give me the option to as I want to know what is inside...as this "MyWebSearch has been an enormous hassle...and needless to say has compromised my PC and the security of all of my passwords.....I want to be sure that the resetting the browser default has actually worked and that MyWebSearch is gone!

  • Have two trash folders,no junk folder on screen?

I set up a new e-mail account. Under my in box column, I have two trash folders, but no junk folder. How do I add a junk folder to folder's list ? Also how to remove one of the trash folders.

Thunderbird does not use a Spam folder. If your email provider does you may need to subscribe to it if you have an IMAP account.
Go to File-Subscribe and see what you see there.

  • On camera roll I seem to have two photos in the same location. When I click on the visible photo a different photo is revealed. I cannot load the photos onto my MacBook

On camera roll I seem to have two differen photos in the same location. How do I resolve this? I cannot transfer one of each of these photos to my macbook.  Any ideas?

An hour-long phone discussion with Apple Support yesterday solved this question and sorted a couple of others.
As for this one, do not ignore any messages which pop up when you plug in your iPhone and ask "Trust this computer?".  The correct reply is "Yes", not "Cancel".
OK, you cancelled like I did, thinking "What on earth is this for?".  Mistake.  You can force the issue by having iTunes open when you next plug in your iPhone.  Tell the iPhone that it can trust its old friend, your computer and voila!  Your photos can download into iPhoto again.

  • I seem to have two different apple ID's, one of which is my email address.  How can I cange it, as I can't clink on it.

I seem to have two apple ID.s, and one is my email address.  How do I correct this as I can't delete and replace the ID?

Saw this in another forum. You could try it.
Under the FaceTime Account you can only have 1 email set up, but below that you can set up multiple email accounts as phone numbers, I do it all the time.
FaceTime is set up with my account, but since the iPad is more of a family device (its mine, but everyone is allowed to use it), my sister programed her email so that her friends can call her on the iPad and so did my Mom and brother. Their friends dial their numbers (email addresses) and the iPad still rings even though the main number is mine account.

Does anyone have problems with sent messages not showing in their Mail? I have two sent folders when really I only want one. Any tips?

    Not sure if this is a fix, but I tried sending myself a test email from only  the Bcc field, and lo and behold it now shows the Bcc field in all sent item previews;
...maybe leaving the 'To' field blank on purpose forced Mail to show it.
Rebooted the Mail program, still there - rebooted the machine, still there. Hope this is still relevant and it works for you too - J.
