I set Firefox 3.6.13 to start with a blank screen. Firefox ignores that option and starts with the Google screen. How do I get the blank screen?
I sent to Tools\Options\General and set "When Firefox Starts" to Show a Blank Screen. Didn't work. I made other settings but Firefox ignored the settings and defaulted to the Google screen each time. I have uninstalled Firefox three times and deleted all remaining files and references to Firefox I could find but when I reinstall Firefox 3.6.13 the Google screen is back.
I am now seeing this same IP address resolution problem slowly (but surely) populate into other browsers (firefox and internet explorer) in windows. The only way I can rationalize this is there is some kind of address resolution problem with one (or more) of ICANN's DNS servers.

Icons that were displayed for each bookmarked site-in the list of bookmarks-have disappeared (only the site name, not associated icon-is shown) since I upgraded to Firefox 9.0.1.

Please go to [http://www.getfirefox.com www.getfirefox.com], and download a fresh version of Firefox. I'm assuming you are using Internet Explorer to download Firefox. Instead of hitting Run, let's try hitting save. Remember where it saves the installer file on your computer.
After the download has finished, double-click and run the Firefox install. Once it is finished, try to start Firefox up. Let me know how it goes! You should have an icon on your desktop, or if you go to your Start Button, then all Programs, Mozilla Firefox will be listed in there. -
I have just updated to Firefox 13.0. I have the AVG Secure Search on my browser or whatever it is that is where the search engines and refresh, and bookmarks icons are located. Even though on my add ons page it says it is disabled. But obviously it isn't because it still works. I have removed AVG Secure Search from the list of search engines in the drop down list in the search bar, but this did not solve the problem with my tabs. The Firefox website says that my Firefox is up to date, but if it is up to date why do I still have the same old tab page when I open a new tab? When I click on the plus sign to get a new tab, it takes me to about:Tabs and says on the screen "You've opened a new tab." Then it has a search bar and a button next to it that says "Web Search!" Then it goes on to say "With Tabs You Can..." So, how do I change my current tabs to the updated Firefox tabs with icons of the my recent tabs and websites I regularly visit. Also can you please provide detailed step by step ways to solve this problem. Thanks.
You only see items on the about:newtab page if the history is enabled and the browsing cache is working (stores thumbnails).

You can check the current cache usage on the about:cache page and in Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage. -
I can't seem to figure out how to download a movie. It begins to download (and yes, I've checked my download speed and my bandwidth and both should, in theory, be adequate to download a movie!) but then the iPad will go to sleep and when I get back to it, it shows that I have bought the movie but nothing is downloaded. And when I try to download the next time, nothing is saved and it starts again from the beginning of the download.
I sat down by my iPad while I was working and every few minutes I would swipe to turn it on and it got over half of the movie downloaded. But then I had to go to leave and now it shows nothing is downloaded.
I can see having it take a few hours to download IF one was able to just start the download and walk away and come back later to watch the movie. But to have to repeatedly begin from the start of the download is incredibly frustrating. I would want my money refunded to my iTunes account at this point, if I was able to do that. It's just not worth the hassle.
Suggestions? How does one download a movie from iTunes? It should not have to be this hard!!See if you can redownload it.

When I have the downloads window open and I close the browser window, the next time I reopen the browser while the downloads are still going, it returns me to the last page I was on. All previous versions of Firefox would return me to my homepage which I would prefer. Please let me know if this is possible.
When you re-open Firefox and choose Restore Session, by default it picks up your most-recently-open window, and the other windows should then show up in Recently Closed Windows.
The Firefox add-on Session Manager lets you manage how many closed windows and closed tabs are saved, in case it's not enough. -
I have tried to install iCloud on to my Windows Vista pc. No control panel is present and when I try to login to iCloud using my iTunes id, I am told that it is an Apple id but not set up for the cloud. without the control panel where do I set up my iCloud id?
You can not setup a new iCloud account using a PC. You must use an Apple device (Mac or iPhone/iPad) to create the account, then sign into it using your PC.

I upgraded Firefox to the newest version (4 I think it was from 3). Now my "add-on" no longer appears"at the bottom" of the screen, only at the top. Do I need to go back to the older version in order for the add-on to show at top and bottom? If so, how do I do that if I decide to do it?
Your UserAgent string in Firefox is messed up by another program that you installed, and those websites don't know you are running Firefox 3.6.3 (which is what you do have installed).

Just installed Firefox 3.6. Firefox will not start and Firefox safemode does not start either. Using Task manager I do not see if started either. If I create a new profile and start from that window, Firefox starts up. I see no error windows/messages. I do have it listed in my Firewall as an exception program with Permit All. What is happening?

im on firefox 4 ,recently ,i tried new addon for firefox 4 called start up faster, i removed it, just as comparison to see boot up times , and then when i tried to install again i get the message create service failed, the icon stays on my desktop, want to check this addon is still performing its role, or could i fix something to make sure its properly on my addon list, thank you,

Full disclosure: I reached to reconnect a cable, and pressed my chest against my keyboard, while the computer was in sleep mode, with Firefox running in the background. I need to accept cookies to log into a technical site. I clear all cookies and the history and follow the instructions for setting privacy options to "Use custom settings for history" and to accept all cookies. When I go back to try logging into the site, it still tells me cookies aren't accepted. When I go back to Options-Privacy, the setting has been changed back to "Remember history" from "Use custom settings for history". I have done this about 5 times, trying various options, closing Firefox after making the change and starting it again - nothing works. How can I get the privacy settings to stay as I set them and accept cookies?
Blocking all cookies in Safari does not work. Deleted cookies will not stay deleted. There are numerous threads on this going back years, both in these forums and elsewhere. Many claim to have submitted the issue to Apple, but I have never seen anyone post a reply.
I have seen many suggested fixes that involve finding the cookies file, some including Terminal manipulations, and none seems to work universally. I can find noplace where Apple addresses this officially with an actual Apple-approved explanation or how-to.
Bottom line, your browser's security features should do what they claim: delete cookies. When they come back without ever even visiting another page, this is clearly not working in the way a reasonable user would expect.
Bottom line, Safari does not protect users' privacy in the way it pretends to and, after so many years of this issue, it appears that Apple wants it this way.
Having spent way too much time on this, I realize the choice is between Safari which is pretty well optimized; Firefox which is a lot pokier, at least for me; and Chrome, which I assume funnels personal information directly to Google.
