I should get an upgrade too!!!

This is not fair. I upgraded to a palm pre back in May of last year and now I can't get an upgrade until Dec. 2011. That is so stupid. I've been a loyal verizon customer for years. Now they finally get the iphone and i can't get the promotional price. All these AT & T customers that are switching are getting the deal but the loyal verizon customers that just happen to get an upgrade last year don't get anything. I HAVE TO PAY RETAIL FOR BEING LOYAL.... {word filter avoidance}

get over it! do what the at&t customers will also have to do. pay your early termination fee, cancel your account, and become a new customer. you signed a contract. we would all love new phones every few months at a subsidized price. a business can't afford to do that. they'd go bankrupt in a year. because a new phone comes out, they should just tear up your contract? or is it JUST because it's the iphone. i want an X, a fascinate, and in a few months i'll want the 4g dual core devices. should they just give me an early upgrade each time a new device comes out?

    Your iBookG4 is still a pretty awesome Mac. Like already said, it has the power to run Leopard, but it depends if you have an internal DVD drive.
    Then I suppose you have to add up the cost of the OS, perhaps another 512MB RAM, iLife 08 and replacements for any favourite apps that you currently use (Leopard breaks a lot of stuff, but Intel breaks even more). Compare it to the cost of a new MacBook, which wil have all of that included and be 3-4x faster too.
    It also depends on what you want to achieve with your iBook. My PMG4 still cuts it today, I still use it in preference to my new Mac Pro, It's about the same age as your iBook, and I'll only stop using it when it becomes "painfully" slow. My 1 year old son currently uses the Mac Pro (parts for a Mac Pro are easier to replace than those for a PMG4).
    I think your choice is simple, if you can a cheap copy of Tiger, use that, it'll get your iPod Touch up and running. It came in DVD and 4 CD version (by request).
    Leopard will work for you too but a lot of the best eye-candy requires quite a meaty graphics card and you may need a RAM upgrade and replacement software - OS9 Classic is not supported in Leopard.

    I cannot believe that apple is refusing to help a customer who bought and paid for iWork software just because I bought it from the retail store the App Store says they cannot allow me to upgrade.  I have never heard of such.  It should to matter where I got it i bought apples software and I don't et how the retail store can be different frothe App Store my god its all still apple.  So stupid.  I will not pay full price for the upgrade.   Also I purchased Logic Studio and 2 days later the upgrade came out and they will not let u upgrade ?  I think there should be at Least a 30-45 day window if u purchase software and they release the upgrade u should get not.    It's not like apple doesn't make enough money already.  

    iWork '08 & 09 installed from the retail disk or from the downloaded trial must be updated through Software Update. Those installations will not be recognized as installed by the Mac App Store. In Mountain Lion Software Update has been "rolled into" the Mac App Store. Choose Software Update from the Apple menu just like you always have & the Mac App Store will launch. Depending on what you have that needs updating you may see two sections in the MAS window.
    But, as always, if you're not running the latest versions of the iWork apps installed from a retail box or the downloaded trial & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. If you installed from the downloaded trial or the retail box, they must be in the iWork '08 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '08. If it doesn't have the '08 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.
    If you are running Pages 3.0.3, then you do have the latest version of Pages from iWork '08. If you want to upgrade to iWork '09, you will need to purchase the new version, just like everyone else. The good news is that you can buy just the individual iWork apps - Keynote, Pages & Numbers - that you need or want for $20 US each from the Mac App Store & then install them on as many Macs as you need using the same Apple ID.

    Hi all,
    I am going to get an iPad soon but I dont know if I should get an iPad 2 or an iPad 3.
    Its a lot to do with cost but I also dont want to get one that I will later regret and think I should have gotten the other!
    I am looking to use it for everyday use, emails, apps, web browsing and when I am out and about the occasional film too!
    I am really stuck because I dont have a lot of money and so therefore this is a big decision for me!
    I know i dont really need the 3G already but I am really torn between the iPad 2 and the 3.
    If I was to go for the 3 then I would only be able to afford the 16GB version which is the same as my iPhone.
    If I was to go for the 2 then I could afford the 32GB version!

Im in the need of a new computer; I have been wanting a mac for a long time and i figured since im a junior in college that i should get myself something decent to finish school with.     I'm in exactly the same boat as you... gonna be using it as my primary computer, graduating college soon, and my first mac. I'll be going with the 13 inch MacBook Air.
    The Pro and the Air are nearly identical performance-wise and so that means the only advantage of the Pro is the storage space (unless you count the cd drive as an advantage). The Air is way more portable and has a better display, I don't know about you but my current cd drive rarely gets used so might as well get rid of it.
    I have also compared them side-by-side in the store and that was really what won me over to the Air. The 11-inch Air was there too but the screen just seems too small, especially if you are doing work/writing essays etc.

    well im gonna use it a lot for school and for playing
    games and editing my own movies/videos
    The MB is a great school machine, for almost everything except serious video editing, 3D CG, or PC games; and that's pretty much what everyone is going to say.
    Everyone will also mention that if you don't want to be disappointed with game or video performance, you'll need an MBP with 7200 RPM drive and at least a gig of RAM (although more than a gig can sometimes decrease performance a little, so check the benchmarks for the games you like and the editors you'll use). You'll be giving up some portability (form factor, battery life, case construction), but you'll also be getting a card slot in return, which could be very useful for the video work (when the cards start shipping) to keep firewire devices on different channels, or tune in direct DTV and HDTV feeds.
    Between the MBP-15 and MBP-17, there is a significant difference for video work with the extra firewire 800 jack and dual-layer superdrive on the 17. If you're going to be moving large video files over a LAN, it also might be worth looking into gigabit ethernet routers. However, if you're not comfortable with dumping loads of money into video hardware and software, then the 17 is probably overkill, although at my config, the 17 was actually cheaper than the 15, go figure, so I got the 17 anyway to save money.
    Hope I'm not too redundant on this, but the wisdom here is fairly conventional, as Apple has intentionally added the "pro" moniker to emphasize these differences.

    I got my G5 DC 2.0 almost a year ago now... I upgraded the memory with 2 X 512M chips and put a 300G hdd in it. Now, I am debating on whether I should get the wireless/bluetooth card to go in it and upgrade the hdd to a 10K RPM barracuda (as the boot up drive)... I also wanted to get more memory for it because I am starting to use Final Cut and Photoshop alot more (1Gs are running about $170 ea. at CompUSA)
    BUT IS IT WORTH IT??? Should I try to sell it and take that money to get a newer one with the Intel Dual Core processors??? This is a sweet machine... blows away any PC I have ever had... but you can get new towers now with 2 CD drives... I just don't know?!?! I guess it also depends how much I could get for a used DC 2.0 with 1.5Gs RAM and a 160G & 300G?!?!

    The RAM for the Mac Pro is very expensive. To get a good amount of ram, and a couple of hard drives you have to spend ~$3000 total on a new machine. Say you sell your current G5 for $1200 or so, it will end up costing you $1800 for that new machine.
    And look at pricewatch.com. You can get 2-1GB sticks for $180 or so for your late 2005 G5. Powermac G5s take the cheapo, unbuffered, non-special ram.

    Yesterday i went to a apple store in my city to get the iphone 6 plus it was all running smoothly then we hit the bump the apple worker rang up a iphone 6 and not the plus. This would have been the phone i was upgrading to but when he realized it he went in a cancelled the process no purchase was made. When we went in to retry it the upgrade was gone. Now its saying i have to wait until 2016. We called everyone apple could think of but no one could help.     You don't supply much info other than your machine is old, so here is some info for you to check thru.
    Before doing anything you should have a back up, preferably 2, in the event something goes wrong.
    You would have to start by upgrading to Snow Leopard, you would need to buy the disk for about $20 here  http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard  
    Check the the requirements to see if your machine meets them.
    You would then need to run the 10.6.8 v1.1 combo update to get it to 10.6.8 Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1
    You can then access the APP STORE and possibly upgrade to to further OSX.
    You may have applications that will not be compatible with any thing past Snow Leopard, you can check those here Upgrading to 10.7 and above, don't forget Rosetta!

It's not a show-stopper, but when people are trying to be located, it will make things more difficult if the person who is looking uses that person's iTunes account e-mail address because it will never be verified in Game Center the way it is now.
    Like I said, I hope this is an issue that can be resolved on the server-side and not require an update to the app which will take more time to happen. It's not the end of the world, but it's a nuisance and should have been caught because it's quite obvious. It's possible that they didn't do e-mail verification prior to the gold release since they were going to reset the whole database before iOS 4.1 went live today.

    A Mac is a very expensive for someone your age, not only that you will have to learn Windows to educate yourself and get a job as nearly everyone used Windows at work.
    Installing Windows on a Mac is no easy process and it costs money as you have to buy a Windows license, then Apple upgrades the Mac operating system annually which you will have to replace and all your software with newer versions.
    Ideally unless your rich, you should get a regular Windows 7 laptop for about $400 or so, because there are some things about computers and how to handle them that having a $3000 Mac  is going to be a costly lesson if it's lost, broken or stolen.
    Also Mac's last about 3-5 years, so locking all your files into a Mac only will cost you another $2000-$3000 the next time around, instead of a mere $400 with a Windows machine.
    Most Mac users also have to run Windows to remain current or work with others, only a small portion of us use OS X exclusively.
    If you want to 3D game, a Windows 7 tower is your machine, as you can replace the video card for newer, faster ones as newer/better games come out.

  • N97 customers should get a discount on LUMIA

    Hi All,
    Wonder how many of us N97 users out there.
    I personally think, because we were badly let down by NOKIA's N97 both in terms of software and after care we should get some sort of discount on new windows phone.
    I pre-ordered my N97 a month before on a £45 contract for 18months .. now God knows how I have spent that time.
    I swore that after the experience I will never buy a Nokia again and do everything in my power to dissuade others.
    So, Nokia if you are reading and you care, please right what you have wronged. give us some sort of discount on windows phone or at least let us try it out for a month to change our opinion of you.

    I too will never recommend a Nokia device after many years of using nothing but Nokia.
    My N97 is going to be retired this weekend after way too many GPS problems, a badly scratched camera lens (even after getting their "factory fix" for this problem!), and now too many spontaneous reboots.  The rebooting problem in the AT&T network is well-documented and is part of the reason why they are no longer carrying Nokia 3G phones.  Something about the switching in the network causes Nokia 3G phones to reboot on-their-own frequently--interrupting calls and running down the battery.
    Even looking at Nokia's new Lumia series--the VALUE that you get compared to other manufacturers is non-competitive.  Nokia prices themselves out of the market at sometimes TWICE the cost of comparable handsets in the upper end.
    What bothers me the most about the initial reviews of the Lumia is that the main selling point was the word "pretty".  Nokia's own promotional video doesn't really show the phone in action--instead you see a big composite picture wall with moving shots--they MUST be trying to hide how disappointing the phone really is.
    I just wished that I'd recognized the lack of real value in the N97 when most of the reviews focused on the "flip up revealing" keyboard and not on speed, features, reliability, etc.
