I should have got the Matte screen

I bought a MacBook Pro 2.2 last year with the Glossy screen. Being a photographer I should have known better. I am talking eyestrain from using this screen. I now have the brightness down to just several clicks above total dark ness. I see that Mac Services will change out the screen for a Matte version for around $500.00. I really do not want to sell this laptop to buy another Matte screen version. Any suggestion would be most welcomed.

How about a 3M privacy screen?

Check the settings on your camera to make sure you're not shooting Raw and Jpeg pairs or shooting bursts.

  • Replace the Glossy Screen with the Matte Screen on a 2008 Macbook Pro?

Can you replace the Glossy Screen with the Matte Screen on a 2008 Macbook Pro?
Where would I get a Matte Screen for a reasonable price if I could change it?

There are a number of issues you should consider before embarking on this project.
    1. If you have a late-2008 unibody MBP, you are undoubtedly aware that there was never any anti-glare option offered for that machine. So there is no anti-glare display that was made to work with it.
    2. If you choose to replace only the LCD panel and not the entire display assembly — which is probably feasible but involves a great deal of painstaking work — you will also need to buy (separately) the aluminum bezel that takes the place of the glossy cover glass panel in models that came equipped with the nonglare screen. The bezel covers and protects the edges of the LCD and the delicate electronic connections there, and hides all that from view.
    3. If you go that route, you will have to make sure that the cabling related to the display you are installing is identical to the cabling related to your original display. This means checking to make sure the cable lengths, connectors and routing both within the display assembly and hinge cover and within the lower case of the computer are all the same.
    4. If you choose to replace the entire display assembly with one that contains a nonglare LCD, you will have the entire, intact glossy display assembly available to sell afterward. If you replace only the LCD panel, the LCD and glass cover panel that you remove will have much less resale value and are likely to be much harder to sell at all, because you won't practically be able to offer any warranty with them and because there are probably far fewer people willing to tackle the fussy, risky display disassembly process than are willing to replace the whole assembly as a unit.
    5. Even if you choose to replace the entire assembly, you will need to verify that the cables dangling from the replacement display assembly are the right lengths and have the right connectors to tie into your lower case properly. Because the assembly will have come from a later MBP model than yours, cable routing and connectors may have changed from one to the other.
If this all sounds more daunting than you were expecting, you may want to consider just applying a nonglare film to the glass covering your present screen. If you aren't happy with the results, you can fall back on the replacement option.

  • For those who bought the matte screen option, are you happy with it?

    Hello,
I'm planning on getting a new Macbook Pro 15" and wanted to know if those who have the matte screen option are happy with it? Cosmetically does it look bad?
Wondering whether to get the matte option or just buy one with the glossy screen and then buy an anti glare cover to go over it? The laptop I'm used to is my sister's older Powerbook which is matte but lately I'm always on her white Macbook which is glossy. I know when I've used it outdoors it's a pain and if I watch TV shows on it I have to adjust the screen to see it just right.
So I thought I'd get others opinions. I don't have to have matte for work or anything but it's just my preference glare wise.

I have a pair of 17" MBP's, the one from last year in glossy, and the new one (i7 2010 model) in matte. The main reason I got the matte is because that was the only 17" i7's that were in stock at the Apple Store...I've never had a very strong opinion gloss vs. matte.
After close to a week, my eyes are liking the matte screen better. I also think the overall quality of the display is better...maybe my new one has a higher-quality panel than what my 2009 MBP has. Neither of them look "bad", but the I definitely enjoy looking at the images on the matte screen more. Also losing most of the reflections from the keyboard lighting is very nice in certain situations.
I believe the matte screen makes the lid overall slightly less rigid. People who do careless stuff like opening/adjusting the lid by grabbing it from near one of the corners might find it easier to damage the matte screen that way.

  • I got the Blue Screen-But Not After Installing Leopard

I have not installed anything recently. Except Quake 4 but haven't even run it yet. I Rebuilt my Permissions and Restarted and suddenly got the Blue Screen. I had to hold down the power button and reboot. This is the first time it's ever happened. After I rebooted I got an error message saying OSX shut down unexpectedly. It also said this:

  • Should have got another 3gs... iphone 4 has given me a head ache!

Ok so I had an iphone 3gs, for 2 years and it was great! It died last week from a fall. So I decide to get an iphone4, 32 gig.
So far, since I got it tonight, itunes has made me restore 4 times now. Not 3, but 4. Every time I get done, itunes shows the phone to be over capacity. There is no way as my 3gs was only a 16 gig and had around 10 gigs of free space.
I plug the phone back in, after around an hour each time for it to restore, and it tells me, “This computer has previously been synced with an iphone or another ios device”….. and to top it off it has refused to sync my contacts and calendar events… I know they are there, but itunes says there in nothing compatible on the computer for it to sync to…. Weird..
So if this last time does not work, ill send this back to Steve Jobs with my own instructions as to where it need be inserted and “Restored”… I thought about getting an HTC Droid, and probably should have. Well realistically, I wanted and should have got another 3gs, as I have bought many apps for the i…
Any ways I wanted to vent somewhere as this has been very difficult… I have been without a phone for around a week now and feel lost. Now that I have the phone, I can not get it to work! This should be a plug and play but so far this has been a plug and faux…
Thank you to all that gave the time to read, that is if the moderators have not locked and deleted this…

Yes yes and yes! I had finished both the seasons and regular angry birds... And very very far through plants vs zombies.... Hehe all gone! Worst was my 3GS was JB and I could have saved it if I knew about the article u sent..
    Live and learn!
So when 4.2.1 JB is out and I'm JB, Hopefully i wont need to do so, I now know how to save game settings.
I did search and searched on a "how to" get back the backup from the 3GS. I got a neat progie that reclaims deleted items BuT according to what I have read, iTunes does In fact write over the previous backup, if it's from a different iOS.. I have yet to find out why..... But I learned that setting the backup folder, and it's contents, to read only, it cannot be overwritten... Tho I do not do much upgrading, as far as ios's go, I'm ready!!
Thank you dbk9999 for the article!

  • Has anyone actually got the Green Screen feature to work?

Has anyone actually got the Green Screen feature to work? I've been trying for about 8 hours, absolutely no success. I have followed the iMovie Help instructions and the examples on the internet, over and over again. I've tried every imaginable variation on the instructions. Nothing from my green movie shows up. The green in my video is pure green - 100% green, 0% red and 0% blue. Yet the non-green images in the video aren't getting displayed at all. Several other people have mentioned a similar problem on these forums and they are all "unanswered". Is that because this is an unsolvable problem? Is it an iMovie bug? Sigh. I'm a big fan of Apple but stuff like this gives them a bad name.

After several more hours of diagnosis I have identified some conditions which can make Green Screen slightly work (but not much). The condition is as follows. The green screen clip must be carefully dropped at the beginning of a video clip, such that at least the first two seconds of the green screen clip (no less, but no more or the clip will become attached to the previous clip and then it's broken again) are displayed over the PREVIOUS video clip. But the green screen will not work on the previous clip, only on the second clip. So you will always lose the first two seconds of the green screen video. It took me a lot of experimenting to discover this anomaly.
Clearly this is a bug, but since not all users on the internet experience this bug, (some online videos shows that Green Screen actually works as advertised) it's most likely related to the video card driver. My video card is an ATI 4870. If you have such a card, there's probably no hope that you can get this feature to work unless Apple fixes the driver or possibly the iMovie application, or you use my tricky workaround.

No, as I have yet to be convinced on Lion.
Did a permissions repair help from the install DVD?

  • My Macbook Pro got the grey screen of death (kernel panic) and now it won't even turn on

    Hey.
Well my macbook pro just got the grey screen of death and upon doing some research I unerstan that it's a kernel panic. However my issue is that my laptop won't reboot, at all. Whenever I try to press the power buttons, the external buttons will light up and the you can hear it running (barely, very low) but nothing else happens. My screen doesnt turn on and no noise comes from the computer to indicate it turning on. However if I hold the power button again it'll act as if shutting down (the noise). I've tried to look online but I havent seen any soluctions for my specific issue.
Also note: I recently got it sent in for repairs and it was sent to apple, I was told they replaced both fans and the motherboard, however I'm not sure if that would affect it.
Anyways, my mac is the world to me and I would hate to have to lose it, anyone have any solutions?

Call AppleCare.  Apple has a 90 day warranty on all repairs.  Let them deal w/it.

I am curious as to why you repeated your question twice both in the subject box and in the discussion box?
In answer to your question, have you tried using
    Disk Utility?
       1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
       2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
       3. Click the First Aid tab.
       4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
       5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
       6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
Then, if you can, reboot to your internal drive and repair permissions.
