I should have known better

In my usual fit of enthusiasium I've just installed Lion on my MacbookPro and iMac. Now lots of the software on my Macbook is oldish and lo and behold didn't work under Lion. Lots of curses but only to be expected so I reinstalled snow leopard. Now the iMac is a different matter my software is up to-date (I don't consider CS4 obsolete) So inDesign loads, can be worked on, but will not print - the spinning beachball tips up spins for about a minute then the program crashes. I've tried exporting to PDF which will print after about a 3 minute pause. I've searched for help online. There is some chat about installing Java Runtime which I've done, Trashed the pref files (hunting down the library is fun in Lion). Adobe of course are keen to look the other way. So before I restore back to 

Ok, before I saw the offer from Paddy B (I was accessing the forum using my phone on GPRS so painfully sloooooww). I saw that the fault had once again been classed as fixed and closed. I then rang the number that came on my introduction letter and spoke to someone in the UK. He listened, apologised for what was going on and put me straight through to the UK resolution team. Once I explained what was happening I received another apology and was told an engineer would call on Thursday morning, and wouldn't leave til the fault was rectified. On Thursday morning at 8.10am I got a phone call from the engineer to say he was on his way and would be with me in twenty minutes. Sure enough, twenty minutes later he arrived. He then spent the next half an hour doing a very thorough check of all the equipment etc at my end. Once that was all done he said he was going down to the exchange and that my line would be dead for a little time while he carried out further tests. Sure enough the line went dead for about half an hour. Then the phone rang and it was the engineer calling to say that everything should be up and running and that he was on his way back to me. True enough the phon and Internet were working. He came back, gave it the once over and left.
Later in the afternoon I recieved another call from the resolution centre to say that they'd received the engineers report and just wanted to check I was happy with everything (the cause turned out to be an incorrect build in the exchange). At the end of the call I was told that they'd leave the fault open over the weekend 'just in case' and give me a call back on Monday to check. If everything is ok then they'll close the fault.
Now this is the level of service that you expect from a company like BT. Thank you to the UK resolution centre for a job well done, it's just a shame that the initial experience with the help desk was so poor.

    Silly Me,
    When looking at the BT Vision option to replace sky, I was reading through the blurb on the website and saw the term ' BT VIsion HD + box'. 'Great that will do for me' thinks I and places an order. Box duly arrives and I set it up, then wait for a couple of weeks for the great switchover.
    So I retune and guess what? No HD channels to be seen anywhere. Hang on, the box is advertised as HD.
    Now call me thick if you you like, but if the box is classed HD Then everything within it should be HD.
    THIS IS WHERE I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER, I forgot that I was dealing with BT.
    As it is a forum I suppose I had better ask a question, so does anyone know if a freeview HD tuner is going to become available, or are we all going to left in the dark ages.

    Yes I'm one of the many plagued with constant crashes with Photoshop CS4 and a clean install of Snow Leopard... and YES I should known better, I mean surely Adobe's FAQ regarding Snow Leopard's compatability should be accurate... Ja right!

    Obviously with new OS there is bound to be glitches and problems, I get that... But seriously howcome this constantly happens with Adobe products... It's ******* frustrating!!!!! So you think oh it's okay you will try narrow down the problem and run through the forums with multiple different solutions that wont stop the multitude of crashes. Hey atleast I will save you some hours...
    Reinstalling Photoshop CS4 multiple times won't do diddly squat, dont bother. (might crash less at 1st)
    Fixing premissions doesn't work but it will give you false hope woohoo
    Del Photoshop .plist file didn't help
    Enabling / disabling Open GL didn't help
    Tick / untick scratch disk didn't help
    Checking right management and users doesnt help
    Installing CS3 didn't help it crashes more than CS4
    Cleaning font cache didn't help
    Deleting fonts didn't help
    Updating patch 11.01 didn't help
    Oh and before someone says it could be a drive thing or memory. It's not! Everything worked prefectly until my clean install of Snow Leopard on my iMac. Now for something that might be of help seeing as I've tried almost everything. Try this and report if you have less crashes...
    Create a new user / login in with that user and run Photoshop CS4 - see if you have less crahes? It seemed I had less crashes but then again I couldnt test for long. To be honest I wouldn't get your hopes up tho, it will just make you more frustrated! Tell me if it helps tho I'm curious.
    My setup if it helps (iMac 3gig ram Installed clean version of Snow Leopard, restored Time Machine) and yes I've been submitting fault reports n logs but who knows when a patch will be released but then again "Adobe Creative Suite 4 products and components are compatible with Mac OS X Snow Leopard."

  • Just updated my iPhone 4S to iOS 7.0.4 --I should have known better!  Wifi & Bluetooth are now dead!!  (And so is my trust in Apple updates)

    So, I've always considered myself a guy in the know for all things Apple.  People are always coming to me for help with things as it relates to thier iPhones/ iPods/ iPads/ iOS and generally I can help them.  I am an Amercan living abroad in Ghana, so a lot of ExPats bring their things to me for support.  Being abroad, I find that I have need to carry mutiple phone lines (something that I would never do in the States).  So I have three iPhones --my 4, 4S, and 5 (as soon as I get back to the States in a few months, I HAD planned to purchase the 5S).
    Anyway, friends all laughed at me because they were all on some version of iOS 7 and I was happily content with iOS 6.  I wasnt a fan of the new iOS and wasn't interested in updating.  However, newly updated apps now forced me to update and so I did.  I really should have read the thousands of dissuccuins first, as then I would have known that some iPhone 4S devices have issues. Unfortionately, the update to iOS 7.0.4 killed my wifi and bluetooth.  Thinking it a software issue, I did a clean factory restore and sewt up the device as new.  No luck, still not able to connect to any wifi or use my bluetook headset.  I googled until my fingers hurt trying to find a solution; none of the alleged fixes do anything for me.  I'm so disappointed in Apple. 
    I have no idea what to do.  And I'm seriously reevaluating my opinon of Apple products.  Too many people online say that contacting Apple hasn't really accomplished anything as iOS 7 updates seems to have effected the hardware.  Which really ***** for someone like me.

    Apple guys are deleting posts. I have found my posts have been deleted. Apple should MUST let us downgrade at least to previous release from current which was working fine.

  • Should have known better than by an Apple Product

    Since having this 400 dollar piece of crap I have wished that I haven't bought it. Should have gone with Creative Labs like I was going to in the first place.
    Again Apple has caused me to think twice about their products, man I am glad I didn't make the fatal error of buying on of their laptops.
    I have tried unsucessfully to download ITunes to my new laptop. Everytime I download it, it goes through its little processes. When I hit finish, ITunes has encountered a problem adn needs to close. We are sorry for this inconvenience. I even disabled my firewall, antivirus, and pop up blocker. Still get the same crap.
    Now I am stuck with a useless IPOD that I cannot do anything with. Maybe I can fool someone on EBAY and sell it. Does me no good at this point.
    ****, I got suckered again, you'd think I would have learned after my Gateway experience.

    Thank You Very Much Katrina. Your suggestion really solved my dilema. I first deleted ITunes and Quicktime. I them reloaded Quicktime like you suggested and then did ITunes. It works now, SO thank you very much. I have been happy with the IPOD until recently when I couldn't get anything to work.

  • P2 "I should have known better."

    I rented a P2 card to finally shoot something on one. Back at the computer, everyone told me, go to import and boom it's that easy-your clips are in the project...NOT.
    First, the card didn't show up on my desktop when I plugged my HVX200, firewire, into my laptop. I thought I was missing a driver or something so I downloaded a bunch of stuff I didn't need, evidently. I wasn't aware the import function was now a part of Log and Capture.
    Anyway, I held the Mode button on the camera and the P2 card mounted like a drive.
    My question. I dragged some stuff off the P2 card. I have a folder on my desktop (I returned the P2 card) with .MXF files (Audio), .XML files (Clips), .BMP (Icons), and .MXF (video). I don't have the ever important text files. I guess I didn't drag those over but I grabbed everything, I thought. I fumbled through 'Log and Transfer' but I can't figure out how to get these clips into my project. Am I screwed?
    I know this P2 stuff has been beat to death but I'm a dumb fisherman who should have read the manual first. Thanks.

    Gah, you know what? That lastclip.txt file is pretty important. I was right in the tutorial. I thought that importing would work without it, but FCP needs it.
    So your options are Raylight, $199...P2 Log, also $199. Hmmm...I wonder if P2CMS will work. That's free. Try that.

    Please help. I think I just bricked my own phone. Despite worries after reading all of the rpoblems people have had upgrading their iphone to Ios 6, I used iteunes to do this to my iPhone 4. (I upgraded to the latest itunes.) Now after 1.5 hours of everything seeming to work OK, all I have is an Itunes graphic on my phone and nothing going on any more in Itunes. The phone doesn't shut down normally or anything. Suggestions? Should I just do a restore operation? I did back up my apps and pics.

    Thank you. I ended up performing the Restore after I did an Update, and performing the restore solved the problem----I now have a functioning iPhone with all of my data, pics, and apps on it. Fortunately I made sure that I backed up my iPhone before I tried to update to iOS6. Man, what a headache though, and it sounds like I had it easy compared to some other horror stories I've read. I won't update my iOS on my iPhone again; i've learned my lesson. It remains to be seen whether iOS6 will be worth it :-)

    I changed from Virgin cable 60mb BB on the 22nd July 2013, I was told my speed would be about 49mb down but I was happy to see I was getting  56 to 62 mb
    That was until wed 21st July when my BB would not work.
    So I phoned BT & after a 30 min wait I was through to India,, He had me power Cycle the router & Modem 5 times although I had already done it my self
    But my Problem is I am MOBILITY IMPAIRED on OXYGEN & in my 70s, I found this very trying.
    The chap I spoke to was very Polite & told me he would pass my case on to a level 2  "technician" & he would contact me on the following day Thur 22.
    In the mean time my BB came on in fits & starts but my speed is down to 31mb down now & the wholesale checker says I can get 32mb down
    So it looks like all this farting around has set my DSLAM at 32mb
    I have had no response back from BT so what can I do as it  is too late to look for Richard Branson
    anyone not on Infinity yet take a good look at Virgin They have CUSTOMER SERVICE
     BT (sales) must remember we are PAYING customers & they must give a service

  • Firefox pulls up a cached version of my homepage (a cyclone warning/tracking page) showing me old information. Now I have surprise damage from a storm I should have known about, how do I get it to not cache this page?

    I set my homepage to the Navy Research Labs tropical cyclone warning page so I can be sure to see developing storms every time I start my browser, but now it simply caches a version of the page. The cached page that shows old information, defeating my purpose. How can I get firefox not to display a the cached version of this page by default? (Yes, obviously I already know I can refresh the page each time. That is NOT my question)

    If you leave tabs open to have them displayed automatically on the next start then you need to clear the browser cache when you close Firefox to prevent showing a cached version.

    Well.  I got suckered in by the 40.00 free credit offer from amazon card.  Scores all in the mid 600 range.  Thought for sure I'd get approved.   Figured it would be a small limit and could just ask for cli when I got the card.  I have 4 synch cards now with decent limits.  Guess I got fooled.  Lol

    Can someone help me, I mad ethe mistake of installing this update and then my itunes wouldn't work anymore.  I got the same messages a previous poster added on here.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but that also didnt work, resulting in another error message that said something about the Apple Mobile Device support (i didn't write it down)  Tried uninstalling that as well, and it won't uninstall!!

  • I should have got the Matte screen

    I bought a MacBook Pro 2.2 last year with the Glossy screen. Being a photographer I should have known better. I am talking eyestrain from using this screen. I now have the brightness down to just several clicks above total dark ness. I see that Mac Services will change out the screen for a Matte version for around $500.00. I really do not want to sell this laptop to buy another Matte screen version. Any suggestion would be most welcomed.

    About Firefox says (today) I have version 25.0, which is what it said when I had an update waiting. I then accepted the update, so I should have a version that is different than I had before, but About Firefox didn't change what it showed me.
    At one time the About Firefox dialog did show us beta channel people which beta they had.
    I looked at the "Troubleshooter" data posted with this question and I can't see how YOU (Firefox developer) can tell which beta I have.

    I have a different version than I had before, so it's not as simple as "you still have [the beta of] Version 25". My question is similar to, "I had 25 dollars and some change, and then I found a penny, how much money do I have" and someone tells me I still have 25 dollars. It's not wrong, but it's not what I want to know. I want more precision.
