I should know better - I'm trying to make a DVD and...

I cannot not even get a build done becuase I'm using stories and I get a message that states "Story 1: Stories must contain at least one entry". This is weird because when I simulate the disc, it seems to work fine – but trying to make a build cannot be completed b/c of the story issue. I have 20 markers in a track and the tracks markers are in the story yet this happens over and over....anyone have any ideas?

Take a look at Story 1 in the inspector, you probably do not have a marker in it - they need to be on the right hand side, not the left
The ones on the left need to be dragged to the right to be in the story (take a look at the story tab in the above graphic)

Beta-Max Movie, Trying to make a DVD

I have an old Sony Beta-Max video player/recorder. It must be 30 years old, but still works. The camera died. However I have some video that I would like to transfer to DVD. I am using iMovie 6.0.3, recording the video on my MBP. I am using the Elgato eye TV to do the recording. It has been recording for about 30 minutes and is showing a file size of 1.4 GB. I am recording it on an external drive that has about 90 GB of free space. The video is about 2 hours long total.
Any suggestions that anyone might have I am all ears.

EyeTV software (..there's plenty about it if you Google for it..) records in MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 format.
That's considerably compressed compared with normal DV, which is why the file sizes are so much smaller than the 13GB-per-hour of DV.
It doesn't matter that iMovie chops up recordings into 1GB segments. When you line up the segments next to each other in your Timeline at the bottom of the screen, the segments will play one after the other without any breaks.
You can generally set the duration of these segments before you start importing, by going to iMovie's Preferences, and - under the 'Import' tab - choosing whatever duration you want, e.g; 'Limit scene length to 10 minutes'.
Importing with EyeTV knocks down the quality a bit from the original Betamax (..I bought the old original massive Betamax camcorder last year, just for fun! [optical viewfinder; no means to rewind or review]..) but if you're happy with what it provides, then all's well. Otherwise, you could borrow a friend's miniDV or Digital-8 camcorder (..many of them, but not all, have a 'digital pass-through facility'..) and play the Betamax recording through the camcorder - or onto a tape in the digital camcorder - and import that into iMovie. That would give clearer results, but would give the larger 13GB/hr file sizes ..and I don't think you'd find a 2hr digital tape, so if you copied onto digital tape you'd have to do it in two parts.
So don't worry about iMovie splitting it into 1GB segments; you won't see the joins!

you update it by connecting it to a computer running itunes and starting itunes up on the computer clicking on it in devices and clicking on the update button in the content menu
if it say you have the latests then it's because you don't own an iphone 3gs but an iphone 3g where the version 4.2.1 was the last released
in that case you can't ever update it

Trying to make a DVD that will play in a stand-alone DVD player – I followed the advice in iMovie Help – but was stopped suddenly on finding that I do not have the relevant version of iDVD (which version (if any – I can’t see it anywhere!) was shipped with iMovie 4.0?). Is it possible to download a copy of iDVD 3 or later from anywhere compatible with OSX 10.3.2 and iMovie 4.0?
The iMovie Help has an additional option to ‘export your movie in a format appropriate for DVD authoring’ which has let me burn the movie as a (name).DV file – but this is not compatible with any DVD player I have tried. I noticed a while ago on this forum that someone was talking about Toast but I do not have this, but I do have Roxio Easy Media Creator 7, which was bundled with the burner – but is only compatible with a PC – would I be able to build a project in iMovie, transfer it to a PC, and use REMC7 to do what toast would?
Finally, I was wondering if anyone has any experience of using Avid’s free DV software – and if they would recommend it (and also if I would be able to make DVDs with it?).

Thanks for the welcome Karsten! I’ve checked the installer disks – which appear to have all the main pieces of software, but not iDVD. If you or anyone knows where it might be hidden that would be great. Thanks for all the other info too!
Thanks Lennart – I don’t think my computer could support iLife ’05 as it is running Mac OSX 10.3.2 and I’ve just been looking at its system requirements which state it requires 10.3.4 minimum – if you know differently, please let me know. As an alternative I have considered getting iLife ’04, but your comment about iLife ’05 being the first version to support external drives worried me (“iDVD 5 is the first iDVD version that officially supports external burners“ does this mean there is an unofficial option for iLife ‘04? Perhaps a patch similar to the one mentioned by Karsten), does that mean iLife ’04 would not support an external Lacie DVD writer?
What is the earliest version of Toast I’d be able to use (as a money saving option!)?

if i clear the book so that it is all blanks and then try to load in the pictures i have it loses the chronology of the pictures that i had established in the album.
is there a way to import photos into an ibook template and keep the original order of the photos without having to do them one at a time?
also, is there a way to insert a photo rather than just dragging it? i have tried the cut and paste funciton but it doesn't seem to work, the target site doesn't seem to register with iphoto.

Photos are added to book in chronological order. So if you want to add them to a book in the order you have placed them manually in an album do the following:
1 - select all the photos in the album.
2 - use the Photos ➙ Batch Change ➙ Date menu option as shown here. Select any date and add 1 minute between photos.
3 - select just one photo from the album and create a book from it.
4 - in the book click on the Options button ➙ Book Settings button and make sure the checkbox for Auto-layout pages is unchecked.
5 - drag the album with your book photos onto the book icon and they will be imported into the Photos tray of the book in your pre-determined order but not into the pages themselves.

OK Error code - 2125 usually indicates that the movie is to large.
It use to pop up when going to iDVD !
iDVD - DO NOT CARE ABOUT Gbs at all. I got movies on 500Mb that do not fit and 50Gb that fits nicely.
iDVD - ONLY CARES ABOUT - Duration. Duration is Movie time + MENU TIME. Choice of
menu and animation of this can take lost of "DURATION" 15 minutes or even more.
Choice of encoding method and use of SL or DL DVDs determine the DVD limit.
iDVD 08 & 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities.
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
• Professional Quality (movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST
• Best Performances (movies + menus less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
• High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) (movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
DL DVDs can store about double of these times.
ALTERNATIVE - The Error Code can indicate that free space on Start-up (BOOT) hard disk is
less than 25Gb (my minimum)

If you are getting OSStatus error -2125, I've seen this caused by the computer display sleep settings.
Try changing the sleep settings to never and see if you are able to export.

iDVD can only use your startup hard disk for the "scratch space" it needs for calculations during the encoding process. 25 GB is a good average requirement, but a large project (3 or 4 hours of content) might require more.
To free up space, you will have to move items to an external hard drive and/or delete items you no longer want.
Please note that iDVD can't use and external hard drive for this "scratch space".

Go to the APP store or Itunes. On the bottom of the mainpage, tap your apple id, view account. Then you can edit the payment information. Or you can do it(if you encounter a problem there) on Itunes on computer. Just go to the store, select your name and edit information. Make sure everything matches...exp date, name as appears on card etc..

As far as I'm aware iTunes always charges the account balance first and when this expires charges any remaining amount to your credit/debit card. The one exception I am aware of (though there could be others) is that Apps purchased from the Canadian store must always be charged to a card rather than a gift card voucher balance due to local legislation.

No, any update can do this. It has happened to a small number of iPhones after every update since iOS 1.0.1. It almost always is due to a hardware failure.

Trying to make a calendar and every picture is coming up too low of quality

I am trying to make a calendar for my mom's Christmas present, but every picture I put in the calendar to be the month's picture has a caution box in the corner and says "This photo may print at too low of quality". I just don't know if this is normal with using your own pictures but I don't want to spend the money on this calendar and then it not turn out very good. Please let me know what you have done or if there is anything to do.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What are the pixel dimensions of the pics you're trying to use?
I ran a test on a calendar using the picture theme and for a full page photo to avoid the warning triangle it must be approximately 1535 px x 1181 px or roughly 120 dpi.
You'll have to decide how far below that level those pictures are and decide if it's worth the gamble. Or use layouts which have more photos per page and thus require smaller sizes.
