Hi - just using the new iMovie for the first time - apparently there should be a sidebar containing tools like "Content Library". Not on mine - even in Window view, Content Library features like text etc are all greyed out - obviously it's me - anyone help please?

Sorry - I should have added that I have imported a Quicktime movie, originally created as an iPhoto slideshow.
I want to create rolling credits at the movie end and apparently you can only do this using iMovie - can you help please?

  • Newbie question: Should I use iDVD o iMovie?

I use a Sony camcorder with the mini-DV tapes. I have about 20 old tapes I'd like to turn into DVDs. This is my first time using iDVD or iMovie.
I'd like to keep things simple: Download the movies to my iMac, make a handful of chapter points and burn to DVD.
Not interested in adding soundtracks, trimming the clips, etc etc. Just keep it simple.
Each 1 hour tape typically has about 8-12 individual clips of a few minutes each (all video is my little kids). I want to be able to access each clip via an upfront menu selection (like a normal movie DVD).
Should I use iDVD to do this or iMovie??
If iDVD, what are some starter tips for me. Thanks!!

I am trying to download imovie06 but can only find updates? How do I find the actual program

  • How can I burn an mpeg onto a DVD without having to use IDVD or IMovie?

So I've got a few jpg's and mpeg's that I would like to burn for PC friends, but the only way I can figure out how to get these onto a CD or DVD is by using IDVD or IMovie with my IMac. Is there a way around this? Why doesn't a blank DVD or CD icon come up on the desktop once inserted so that I can simply drag and drop my photos and short movies to it to be burned accordingly? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for responding Dave, but this option doesn't
seem to appear in the preferences of IDVD, DVD
Player, or Quicktime. It seems strange that the only
way I can burn a movie is to create a new IMovie
project and and then burn it via IDVD. This is a
huge hassle when all I want is a few short videos in
no particular order saved on a CD or DVD. My CD
player doesn't seem to be listed separately and is
tied into Itunes. Isn't ILife suppose to make
things easier? Thanks for your help.

  • Use audio from iMovie for menu in iDVD

I would like to use 30 seconds of audio out of a 30 min. video for use in a menu in iDVD.
    I seem to have to detach audio, but that lets me only use it within iMovie;
Export audio seems to export the whole movie.
Is there an elegant way to extract these 30 seconds outside iMovie?
    Thank you very much!

    • duplicate your Project in iMovies Project Browser
    • 'trim' that Project to the wanted 30secs
    • Share/Export using Quicktime - there's a drop-down menu, allowing to choose 'aiff'
    • drag created audio file into your iDVD Project's info window of the menu

  • IDVD music skips for slideshow

I have create an idvd slideshow for my mother 90th birthday. I have selected 8 songs. When I play the slideshow from beginning to end everything works great....then I burn the DVD and play it and some of the songs skip. I redo the DVD and it skips in different places. What can I do to fix this? Susan
I also have the issue of not being able to burn a DVD-R ...it seems to only want to burn on a DVD-RW. Is this normal? There are 426 pictures and 8 songs. My computer has lots of room.

Btw, if your objective is to have all images on a single shideshow then I'd recommend an alternate app for the slideshow itself prior to using iDvd. For example; iMovie will work with stills as a single QT file and hence no limits on the number of images (up to the capacity of the dvd you are using at the time) with excellent audio results also.
You may also wish to consider these alternate apps which specialize in slideshow presentation which you can then burn through iDvd.

  • Still images in iMovie for slideshow problems

I am bringing in 72dpi jpegs of some of my design work into iMovie. I am trying to make a slideshow and have the images change by using the music as a cue, new sound—new image, etc... I then want to export it as quicktime movie.
When I am in iMovie and I drag a clip(still image) into the time line the image looks dull and blurry, but when I go to media>show photo settings, it all the sudden looks great. Once I click out of there it goes back to looking like crap.
Any ideas? Do i just need a diff program for doing this?

I am bringing in 72dpi jpegs of some of my design work into iMovie
The dpi setting is of NO importance in iMovie/iDVD - only the actual image pixel size. See Preparing images for DVD slideshows at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/6.0/en/17.html for suggested sizes unless you plan on using a lot of Ken Burns Effect zooming.
When I am in iMovie and I drag a clip(still image) into the time line the image looks dull and blurry
The preview window in iMovie is just that - a preview window - for use in editing. It does NOT show the actual image quality of the clip.
Some of us like Photo to Movie or FotoMagico for turning still images into slideshow movies - both offer free trial modes - you might want to give one of them a try.

  • How to use idvd and iMovie 11 to make a dvd

I have used earlier versions of iMovie to make dvdd but cannot here. May of the people speak of share options that do no exist she i go to share.
Where do I find the media browser for example?
    Thanks

Also answered in your duplicate thread:
To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

  • Help using iDVD with iMovie '11

I bought the new iMovie '11 from the Mac App Store, and have made a movie successfully on my iMac with OSX 10.6.8.
However, it doesn't seem to be able to talk to my version of iDVD 6 which looks pretty out of date, but I can't seem to
find the new version on the App Store.
There is nothing new for me to download via Software Update.
Could anyone advise me how I can update my iDVD?
    Thanks!

Thanks for the fast responses everyone! It does indeed work as AppleMan1958 says, by sharing as large movie. I had to manually drag it to iDVD from a Finder window as it doesn't appear in the media browser, but apart from that it works fine!
I am just a bit puzzled as to why I can buy certain elements of new iLife in the App Store, but others are not available to download....

  • Using themes in iMovie for iOS

I created a movie (not trailer) using a theme on my new iPad.  However, when I drop in media (video, photos), the theme doesn't appear when I preview it (it does when I create a movie the same way on my MacBook).  The edit options seem limited in iOS.

You have to tap on a video clip to add a theme title.
Or you have tap to change the transitions between clips to the theme transitions (the icon with the 'star').

  • Exporting a slideshow made with iDVD into iMovie

Is it possible to export a slideshow that was created using iDVD into iMovie 08 so it can be modified?
    Thank you.

Think of the i-Apps (or more specifically iMovie and iDvd) as a candy bar. Essentially, iDvd is to iMovie what the candy wrapper is to a candy bar. It's simply the exterior packaging of the movie you made in iMovie (or whatever video app you choose to edit in).
Hence iDvd was not designed to edit video content. We normally reserve this task of editing for the video app/s like iMovie, FCE, or FCP. Therefore, it's much easier (and sequential) to go from the other i-apps to iDvd than it is the other way around.
    In a word, No.
We don't export slideshows from iDvd to iMovie.... At least not normally.
But we do share/export QT content/movies from iMovie, iPhoto, GB, FCE, FCP, QT Pro, etc. to iDvd.

  • Using iDVD, I've no problem creating a slideshow, but I want to add three seperate sound files, in this case speeches I've got in iTunes. I want to create three individual buttons/sub menu to access them individually from the photos. Can anyone help

Using iDVD I've no problem creating a slideshow, but am having problems trying to add three seperate sound files in this case three speeches that I hold in iTunes. I want to be able to access them individually and seperately from the photo slideshow. Can anyone advise if this can be done and if it can, how I go about creating the seperate menu and buttons.

If you'd like to integrate the speeches with the slideshow, I'd do that in iMovie where you'll have more control over the timing.  Use chapter markers at the beginning of each speech so the viewer can jump to a particular speech (note that chapter markers advance the viewer to a particular spot -- the viewer keeps watching the rest of the video until the end of everything or until they use the remote's menu button).
If you're just wanting the speeches to be on the DVD so people can listen to the speeches after seeing your slideshow, you could:
    - use iDVD or iMovie to make a "slideshow" with just 1 image matching the length of a speech.
    - create three submenus and use the speeches as menu music.  Here's a (random) video on creating submenus:

  • 2Can't burn a DVD using IDVD nor Disk Utility first time user-what is wrong

T he recording device reported the media error: Power calibration area error. (0x73, 0x03.)
    IDVD Version 6.0.3
Emac- OS 10.3.9--- in the owner's manual it DOES state my emac can burn DVDs. Is this correct?
I am using FujiFilm DVD-R . Never used the DVD apps or burner before. I PRAM'ed 3 times. Also did 6 CD audio burns to check the drive. Is it the media-- Fuji does not work? I used Office Depot generic for audio CD-Rs.
I keep getting this error message after about 20 minutes of programming the DVD-- then it ejects with this message:
"The recording device reported the media error: Power calibration area error. (0x73, 0x03.)"
When using the IDVD application to burn my slideshow onto a DVD; Then I contacted Apple Care and I was told to use Disk Utility to burn my DVD in lieu of IDVD not working.
I converted my slideshow into a .dmg format; all was verified successfully. Then I receive this error message when attempting to BURN DVD:
"STOP The device drained its buffer without burn under run protection"
I made a WONDERFUl slideshow-- of only 17 slides-- confirmed I have plenty of room on hard drive and et al on the "disk information". I have attempted since May 7th to get this DVD to burn my slideshow. PLEASE HELP ME!!! I have deadlines-- now it is for Tuesday May 15th. Please alert me to an alternative until I can get my Emac working properly on what I can do to make copies of my slideshow ASAP. Thank you.
Now I looked thru your ERROR message archives and found NONE to match mine. What do these error messages mean-- is my Emac not working? This is first time ever I tried to use IDVD and IMovie and Disk Utility--- so the first impression is VERY VERY VERY bad for Apple's "easy to use for first time customers"....
Oh to add information-- I DO have an external DVD recorder-- have yet to even see how to hook it up to my Emac-- if this is an alternative to meet my Tuesday deadline-- PLEASE let me know-- how do I burn a copy of my slideshow into an external DVD recorder?
My emac model: 1.25 GHz Power PC G4
    Memory 256 MB DDR SDRAM
    Machine Model: eMac
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.1)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 1.25 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 256 MB
    Bus Speed: 167 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.8.2f1
    Serial Number: G84181KDQQJ

Also did 6 CD audio burns to check the drive. Is it the media-- Fuji does not work?
Your drive is actually TWO devices - one set of optics and laser burns/reads CDs, another set of optics/laser reads/wtites DVDs. The fact that your drive can burn CDs doesn't mean it is working for DVDs.
I keep getting this error message after about 20 minutes of programming the DVD-- then it ejects with this message:

You might want to get back to Applecare and expalin again the error messages you are seeing. They really don't involve iDVD.
I converted my slideshow into a .dmg format; all was verified successfully. Then I receive this error message when attempting to BURN DVD:
"STOP The device drained its buffer without burn under run protection"
You either have a media problem or you have a DVD burner problem.

Well I had to make the copies for my presentation-- so the cheapest I could find in my area was Walgreens-- 39.99 for ONE COPY of a DVD! So I paid $70.00 and the clerk made 4 copies for me;-) So thanks Walgreens!
Now-- my Mac-- I could not find anything on shelves at Walgreens or Office Depot but the FujiFilm I already have... So I now have time to look elsewhere.
I did PRAM my Emac 3 times-- I tried these things also:
1)Saved the IDVD- .dmg format to QuickTime .mov
I uploaded to google video.com or whatever-- they use their own software-- .gvp file and player. All was successful (even now on YouTube-
    2) I then made another version in PowerPoint and saved it as an MPEG
Also for below-- I lowered the burn rate upon the 2nd try to 1x-- took one hour or more (I went to get a root canal... then exfoliate... then I came back;-)
Also tried different .mov from the web-- a great whale shark video that was only 49mb. My presentation is 120 mb. So I was just thinking-- make it smaller; burn slower.
3)I did try to burn from IDVD, Disk Utility and then the drag and burn/click method on the desktop-- put a blank DVD in-- drag the .mov icon to the blank DVD -- write a title for the blank DVD- formats it / Drag to trash-- Burn icon comes up/ Clicked it-- waited 20 minutes and received:
"Error: Error occurred while burning the disc. This disc can not be used."
So I put in another blank Fuji DVD-- just in case. Same error message-- so I am hoping it is the DVD itself and not the SuperDrive.
4)Also-- I tried to do audio CD burn-- just to make sure about the drive-- all was successful and I did a back up of my Itunes files-- 6 CDs they burned (they meaning "the Gods of Mac OS" ;-0 My audio CDs are Office Depot CD-R 52X700mb/ So the generic is better for CDs on my Emac that I know;-)
So I will use my weekend to try other DVDs-- and I have the safety net of Apple Care-- but then just realized-- my Extended Care plan is OVER at May 30, 2007!!! I called to ask to EXTEND it further-- I'll pay whatever-- NOPE-- 3 years was max on this contract. So any repairs I have to pay for after May 30th-- ISN'T THAT JUST THE WAY THE WORLD GOES? The DAY after your warranty on AnYTHING-- the thing goes kablooey?
But I still have days left--- and I know of a good Mac Repair person in area-- but it is just so darn difficult to move my desktop Emac (I got the GLASS monitor to save $300 or something) Weight Lifting is what it is-- weighs about 45lbs or more.
But it seems it may be the media I am using if the CD burner is working, right?
I can update-- if you want me to email direct-- just give me a note (my email is listed). Thanks all!!! I just want to impress everyone of how tenacious I am to find that my Emac is FINE-- it is just ME that is warped;-)
