I show 4 airport bars but MacBook tells me I'm not connected to internet??

Often I will be trying to connect to a wifi signal in public or at home and even though my MacBook shows that I'm connected to the actual signal, when I try to load a page I get a message from my computer that tells me the page won't load because I'm not connected to the internet. It's very frustrating. Does anyone else have this problem or, better yet, the solution?
Thanks!
E.

Being connected to your wireless router is not the same as being connected to the internet--if your modem (DSL or cable, probably) is not connecting to the internet.
Some things I've done to solve similar problems:
• unplug and replug the power on your modem (not the wireless router)
• check to see if you have any programs, like VPN software, that might be interfering (I had to remove an NAC agent when I upgraded to Leopard, because it interfered with my connectivity; now I can't work from home, boo, hoo)
Also, try to plug directly in to your modem or router via ethernet and connect.
It might also help if you could check your system preferences, and tell us what it says in the Network pane for Airport--if you have an IP address assigned, and so on.

You cannot use the iTunes Store of any country other than one one in which you live and have a payment method. If the Sound Cloud app is no longer available in your country's iTunes Store, then that app will not be available to you. Contact the developer and ask if they have any plans to re-release it in your country; it may have been removed due to a problem or pending update and will be reinstated at some point.

  • I just purchased the ipad I have an itunes account but it tells me I am not connected to the itunes store. can anyone tell me whats wrong

I have just purchased the ipad and trying to log onto itunes and it tells me I am not connected .  i typed in my apple sign on and it states cannot connect to itunes store. Can anyone tell me whats wrong?

I'm sort of confused by your response. Did your iPad start up? If I DO understand - you are frozen on the sign in setting for the Store?
Try this - force quit the settings app.
Force quit the app by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears. Let go of the sleep button and then hold down on the home button until the app quits. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • HT4623 I am trying to update my iPad but it tells me I a, not connected to the Internet...although obviously I am

I am trying to update my iPad but it keeps telling me that i am not connected to the Internet...obviously I am.  What am I doing wrong?

There are countless posts about this.  There's a problem at Apple's end and has been so for several days.
However, I have no trouble updating using itunes on my computer and later syncing to my device.

  • HT4623 Trying to update but verification fails saying I am not connected to Internet. I am connected to Internet though.

Trying to update 7.04 and later. I have verified I am connected to WiFi but the update fails ssying I am not connected.
    How to fix?

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Then reconnect to wifi and try updating again.
If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 7.0.4. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and antivirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.
How to Upgrade to iOS 7
The iOS 7.0 update requires around 2.5 GB of storage space, so if your iPad is almost full, you may need to clear up some space. You can check your available space in Settings -> General -> Usage.
There are two ways to upgrade to iOS 7: You can use your Wi-Fi connection, or you can connect your iPad to your PC and update through iTunes. We'll go over each method.
    To upgrade using Wi-Fi:
Note: If your iPad's battery is under 50%, you will want to plug it into your charger while performing the update.
    Go into the iPad's Settings.
Locate and tap "General" from the menu on the left.
The second option from the top is "Software Update". Tap this to move into the update settings.
Tap "Download and Install". This will start the upgrade, which will take several minutes and will reboot your iPad during the process. If the Download and Install button is grayed out, trying clearing up some space. The space required by the update is mostly temporary, so you should gain most of it back after iOS 7 is installed.
Once the update is installed, you may have to run through the initial steps of setting up your iPad again. This is to account for new features and settings.
    To upgrade using iTunes:
First, connect your iPad to your PC or Mac using the cable provided when you purchased your device. This will allow iTunes to communicate with your iPad.
You will also need the latest version of iTunes. Don't worry, you will be prompted to download the latest version when you launch iTunes. Once it installs, you may be asked to setup iCloud by logging into your iTunes account. If you have a Mac, you may be prompted on whether or not you want to enable the Find my Mac feature.
Now you are ready to begin the process:
If you upgraded iTunes earlier, go ahead and launch it. (For many, it will launch automatically when you plug in your iPad.)
Once iTunes is launched, it should automatically detect that a new version of the operating system exists and prompt you to upgrade to it. Choose Cancel. Before updating, you will want to manually sync your iPad to make sure everything is up to date.
After canceling the dialog box, iTunes should automatically sync with your iPad.
If iTunes doesn't automatically sync, you can manually do it by selecting your iPad within iTunes, clicking on the File menu and choosing Sync iPad from the list.
After your iPad has been synced to iTunes, select your iPad within iTunes. You can find it on the left side menu under Devices.
From the iPad screen, click on the Update button.
After verifying that you want to update your iPad, the process will begin. It takes a few minutes to update the operating system during which time your iPad may reboot a few times.
After updating, you may be asked a few questions when your device finally boots back up. This is to account for new settings and features.

  • Acrobat installed on Mac, but update function fails with "..not connected to internet.."

I successfully installed Acrobat Pro version 11.0.0 on two MacBook Pro's running OS X Yosemite 10.10.3. Adobe runs and works fine, however when attempting to update to version 11.0.10, I get the following:
"Cannot download update files. Please verify that you are connected to the Internet and check for updates again later.
    Error:  1109"
The computers are definitively connected to the internet, so why doesn't this work? I completely re-installed it on one computer, but have the exact same problem. Please help.
    Thanks.

    Hi ,
The possible reasons that you are experiencing the internet connectivity issue is that either you are offline or the clock on your computer is set incorrectly .
Please check the internet connectivity ,if it is connected ,you could disconnect it once and they try reconnecting or you could adjust the clock on your system and try again .

  • I have a new ipad2, also an ipad1, with a gateway laptop. I have wireless router with windstream. Able to access my wireless connection on ipad1 and laptop, but can't on ipad2. Will say connected, but get message saying not connected to internet on Safari

I got an ipad 2 today. Already have an ipad 1 and gateway laptop. Have wireless internet with windstream. I have internet connection on ipad 1 and laptop, but can't connect to internet on ipad2. It says i'm connected, but when accessing Safari, it says not connected to internet. Tried unplugging router and resetting already, still not working. Thanks for the help.

    Thank you for your response.
I did try turning off the firewall, and reducing all the security levels to a minimum (under Control Panel>Internet Options). Also, I'm using a direct cable from my m/c to the Airport Extreme. But nothing helps. Due to the usage pattern in my family, using the MacBook for configuring the network is not optimal, hence my struggle to do it on my Windows desktop. But if that is the only way to go I suppose I'll have to.
Subsequent to posting my query, I discovered that Apple had not singled me out, and many others with a Win OS face this problem, too. I would have thought Apple would do a proper job of testing before putting up the Windows version of Airport Utlity on their site.
But thanks again. Much appreciate it.

  • IPhone 5s: Intermittent wifi; wifi signal is full but phone not connected to internet

Hi all, I have a strange wifi connectivity problem.
    At home:
iPhone 5s connects normally to wifi, but after several minutes of usage (particularly browsing the internet), wifi signal remains full but safari states that phone is not connected to internet. Other apps like whatsapp also don't work. When I disable wifi then enable it again on my phone, I can connect to the internet temporarily again, but after a few seconds it disappears again. If I leave it for a while, it automatically connects again, but intermittently and unpredictably. All in all, unreliably.
At home, MacBook Air works fine with no connectivity issues.
At other wifi locations, the same iphone 5s has no problems at all with wifi connectivity.
    Also, I have already
    - reset phone
    - reset network settings on phone
    - reset router
    - unplugged and replugged modem and router to wall switch
    - previous iPhone 4 on iOS 7 had no issues with home wifi
Thus, I am uncertain if this is a phone or wifi issue. My best guess would be that it is a compatibility issue between the iPhone 5s and my home wifi?
Any suggestions as to where I could start solving this problem would be very appreciated! Thank you:)

If you are having WiFi problems it is necessary to isolate whether the problem is with your network or your iPhone. Note: Do NOT consider your network to be blameless if some other devices can connect to it.
First, test your iPhone on some other WiFi networks: a friends, Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, etc.
If it works well there then the problem is probably with your network. Try restarting your WiFi router by removing power for 30 seconds. If that does not help check for a firmware update for your router. If none exists which corrects the problem consider replacing the router.
If your iPhone does not function well on other networks it possibly has a hardware problem. You could try Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings to see if that corrects the problem. If not, contact Apple Support or visit an Apple store for evaluation. They can provide a replacement if your iPhone is bad.
If you need more help please give the make, model, and version of your WiFi router and how you have it configured.

    Perfect, thanks.
Yes it is hanging and saying Accessing iTunes Store.
With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:

(If there's a SpeedBit LSP showing up in Autoruns, it's usually best to just uninstall your SpeedBit Video Accelerator.)

  • My iMac is working with my Airport Extreme, but Macbooks cannot connect.

After a number of power outages, we lost wireless throughout the house. ISP and modem all checked and okay. Reset Airport Extreme to factory settings. I am connected on my iMac (wirelessly via the Airport), but Macbooks and iPad cannot connect. They are picking up a wireless signal, but not the Airport network and shows an error message "not connecting to Internet".
    Suggestions?

A little more information from the Macbook - when I open System Preferences - Network, there is a message on the left showing the Airport device, and also says "self-assigned IP". On the right side under Status, it states"Airport has the self-assigned IP address of xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and will not be able to connect to the Internet." Not sure if this provides any clues?
