I shut off my computer but the sidelight is still on ?

I just got my Macbook just about a week ago, everything was fine until tonight when I shut down my computer and the sidelight was still on. That was my indication that the computer must still be on.
HOW DO I TURN IT OFF?
I tried a suggestion from another post and disabled my safe sleep mode but that didn't seem to work. I also waited until the screen goes completely black before shutting my comptuer. What's the deal?
ALSO! It is hard to wake up my computer from sleep mode.
I got a Mac so I would hopefully not have to deal with computer problems...or at least not as many as a PC...but come on! I just got the thing and it's giving me problems. ugh.

I would recommend calling appl customer care, they're open now i believe. The number is 18002752733 (if that's not it call 1800myapple. How are you shutting it off. If you hit the power butten then click shut down wait till the screen goes blank. Then hit the caps butten. Does the green light come on? if it does your computer is still on. Give it 5min, try caps lock again, if it still turns green do the following, if it didn't then your computer should be off.
Turn it back on/make it come back from sleep. Click the apple in the top left corner, then shut down. do the caps lock check again after the screen goes black, does it still come on? Wait 5 min, check caps again. If neither worked, call apple.
(if it does work, it mean you were closing the mac too early)

Restart your phone by holding the sleep/wake button and the home button until it starts back up.

I changed my Apple ID via my computer but the old one still shows up on my phone.

I changed my Apple ID (email address) on the Apple web site but the old one still shows up on my phone so the password does not work.

You need to log out of you account on your phone and delete your iCloud account from the phone, then add the new one back. See: Change your Apple ID

HT1222 I have tried updateing 10.8.4 multiple times and restarting my computer but the update is still visible on the ap store.

I have just installed snow leopard on my Mac Pro (v10.5.8) on trying to shut down on the apple menu it doesn't completely turn off computer, I just get a blank screen but the curser is still live and I have to hold down the power button to force a shut down.

Try quitting all applications before shutting down. One may be hanging and preventing a normal shutdown.

Open the folder /Library/Application Support/iPhoto/Plugins/
To navigate to that folder, open the folder "Library" directly on your Macintosh HD, then inside the Library folder go to Application Support, then iPhoto. Is there anything installed?

Just hold down the power button for about ten seconds and the machine will turn off.
I'm not sure how fast your Internet speed is but my Mavericks downloads usually only take about 20-25 minutes for a 5.33GB file.
No telling what will be waiting for your when you power back on... call back if you can't login to your computer.

Yes. Plug it into your computer and restore it. Once it's in recovery mode, that's your only option.

Try restoring your iPod. Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. it won't remove anything from your iTunes library. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions to name the iPod and automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. The screen on my iPhone 4 turned black while i was using it-it was not dropped or damaged in anyway. The phone itself is still working as it comes up in itunes when I plug the phone into my computer, but the screen is completley black. What can I do?

The screen on my iPhone has gone black while I was using it. It just "shut off". The phone is still working as I can hear/see it when it plugs into the computer, but the screen just wont turn on. I've tried the soft reset "holding down home and lock screen" and i've tried to restore settings. I went to the apple store and they said I had to send it to my provider (in another country) but my phone contract has run out.
Is there a way to fix this?
If not, is there some way apple can replace the phone? It's less than 2 years old. Surely the screen shouldn't just give out like that.
