I-sight is on when MacBook powers up

Hi,
Has anyone experience the built-in i-sight camera becoming active when their MacBook is powered up? The green light illuminates as soon as the Macbook powered-up, but not every time. When this does happen, it locks-out i-sight from use by applications and seems to drain the battery quicker. Anyone got any suggestions or thoughts how I might stop this happening?
Cheers

welcome to macbook forum.
Go to your system preference > account > login item, and uncheck the application that you suspect using i-sight during start up.
also check the dock and see if there is any application open that might use it like comic life, yahoo messenger, etc. Check and close any applications that have little black triangle underneath it.
reset your PRAM to refresh your hardware behavior, and repair permission to refresh your software behavior.
you can also open application / utility / activity monitor and quit any program or widget that might use your i-sight.
Good Luck.

When the battery died on my MacBook Pro it shut down. When I powered back up the machine went back to the original startup configuration. I could not access my data. I know it is there as I ran the disk utility and it shows the drive is almost full. Can anyone help me recover my data?
    Thanks

Hi johndiiullo: Before the MacBook Pro shut down, did you happen to change the "Short Name" of the computer? If so check here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107854

The operation couldn’t be completed. (CoreDAVErrorDomain error 1.) This error comes up when MacBook Air is trying to up and download info to iCloud.
    What is wrong, and
    How to fix it ?

I believe I have what is a similar issue, but I am not convinced it is singularly related to iCloud as I don't use iCloud on this user account for contact synchronization.  However, I am running OS X Server on a different computer and am in the process of rebuilding a user account.  The user account got the error when I first connected to the Addressbook service, but when I wrote a contact to the database, the error changed to "[NSUnknownKeyException] [<ABCDGroup 0x7fe95d20d360> setValue:forUndefinedKey:]: the entity ABCDGroup is not key value coding-compliant for the key "com.apple.addlInfo""
Had you done recent work with the addressbook?  Rebuilt contacts?  Upgraded something?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Has any of this been tried?

My iphone died & I plugged it back in to charge when it powered on the screen remained black.  I can hear when I receive a text and siri.  I have tried holding down the sleep and home button and restoring in itunes neither worked.  The screen on the phone is cracked but has been working fine until now.  Please help!!!

Here's how to perform the restore:

If you can actually get to restore, maybe (I estimate a 0.01% chance) you'll be able to do a backup before the restore.  Actually, from the symptoms you describe, I suspect a restore won't work either and you'll need to do a recovery.
Just in case, if you need to recover (restore fails), here's how.  Note you may have to try to get into recovery mode more than once.

Probably - if it happens again. Chalk it up to a fluke occurrence for now.
I get the message on my iPad that it can't connect to the iTunes Store - While I am in the iTunes Store or the App Store happily navigating from one tab to another.
You can try rebooting the iPad to "clear the cobwebs" but if it is OK now, I probably wouldn't be overly worried. Rebooting being holding down on the sleep and home buttons until the Apple logo appears on the screen.

  • How can I make sure the relays are off on a 1324 module when it powers up.

We have an application using the SCXI 1324 module. When the module losses power the relays keep their state. The control program attempts to set all the relays off when it starts up, but the 1324 assumes the relays are off when it powers up and the CVI call to turn the relay off does nothing until I cycle the relay on and back off again.

OK, the 1324 is a terminal block. The relays in question are in the SCXI-1160 module.

Okay. You are not entering the correct passcode. If you forgot or it is not taking your passcode then you will have to restore.

  • When I run low on power my MacBook powers off without warning

I've noticed that when I'm running low on battery my MacBook will power off without warning, I'm pretty sure it used to go into sleep until I charged it.
Is just powering off the correct behavior and if not are there ideas on why it's not going into sleep?
    Thanks!

This seems to be a growing problem.

I had my MacBook "repaired" when it developed the problem a few weeks ago. The day after I got it back from Apple it did the same thing. THey are replacing my MacBook (I had my computer in for repairs 4 times in 4 months). Some people have gotten replacement batteries but have not posted whether that resolved the problem.

  • Macbook powers up when the magsafe connector is plugged

    Hello all,
Last month, I've had the battery problem that makes the battery not detectable by the macbook, and gives me an X in the menubar.
While I was waiting for my new battery, the machine begun to power up when I plugged the magsafe connector without pressing the power button. I thought the problems were related.
Well now I've changed the battery and it's working alright again, but the power up issue is still bothering me.
    Can anyone help me out?
    Thank you.

    Hi!
See my post, had the same problem:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=4484223#4484223
    I did the following:
    - Reset the System Management Controller (Turn off computer, remove power cord and battery, hold down power button for 5 seconds, reconnect battery and power cord)
    - Reset the PRAM (Hold CommandOption+'P''R' while booting until you hear the second startup chime)
    - Move the pins of the MagSafe connector with the plastic cap of a pen (maybe one of them was stuck in a wrong position and didn't make the correct connection when plugged)
    Ciao

  • Macbook powers on by itself when i connect the power cable

    Hi,
Since Leopard, my Macbook has decided to no longer rely on the stupid user pushing the power button. It simply switches itself on every time i connect the power cable
You know: I often come home in the evenings with a drained battery, connect the cable and charge the battery overnight. I don't want to switch the baby on. But my Macbook thinks otherwise.
First i thought it maybe have somthing to do with the hardware-energy settings (power on after power loss), but the option is disabled.
So what? Has the Macbook become more intelligent or am I just to stupid to find the right option? (Care what you say..!)
    Cheers,

  • Just bought a used '06 MacBook Pro. Where can I get instructions for starting it up?  This is all new to me. When I powered it on it showed "Utilities".  Asking me to select startup system - am I supposed to insert the Snow Leopard disk?

I'm so lame at this! I bought the laptop used and was told that Snow Leopard was installed. I don't want to mess this up. Are there detailed instructions anywhere that will take me through this step by step?

The utilities window is giving me 4 choices: Restore from Time Machine Backup - You have a  backup of your system that you want to restore
Reinstall Mac OS X - Set up and install a new copy of 'Lion'.
Get help online - Browse Apple support
Disk Utility - Repair or erase a disk using Disk Utility.
If I use Time Machine is it going to restore all of the previous owners content?
