same way you dont plug in a lightbulb standing in a puddle.

You can reset the password.
How you do it though depends on the version of OS X you are running.
On Lion or Mountain Lion, you use the following technique to reset the Administrators password:
Boot to your Recovery Partition, by holding down the Option key while starting, and then selecting the Recovery HD as the boot choice.
Once booted, at the top of the screen is a menu ..., select Utilities / Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, type “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and press return. A “Reset Password” window will open. Select your boot volume (your SSD drive) if it is not already selected. Select your administrators username from the menu labeled “Select the user account” if it is not already selected. Follow the prompts to reset the password. Restart the computer from the apple menu.
If you are using the Keychain, you will lose your existing one, and have to start a new one, unless you remember the old password.

Your system shut itself down immeditely ... which says much.
Tea/milk/soda all are "more than simple water" and leave residues behind in the deep internals.
Talk to Genius Bar, but DO NOT turn it on again or plug it into wall power again until (actually IF) the Genus Bar clears it.
Others have reported repair bills of $900, since it is considered "accidental damage" and not covered by warranties.

MacBook Air or Should I keep MacBook Pro?

I recently (last week) purchased a MacBook Pro 13in. (2.8 ghz)
I originally wanted the 15 inch, but wasn't thrilled with the wieght. I know there are rumors of a new Pro design making them slimmer, but with no definite release date, It's kind of hard to wait on. Now I'm thinking maybe a MacBook Air would be a better fit.
However, I know its less powerful than the Pro. If I were to get the MBA, I'd go for the higher end ($1599) I just need ot know if you think it would work for my needs.
This wouldn't be my 'main" computer. I'd mainly be using it to take back and forth to work, to use around the house from room to room vs. being stuck sitting at a desk at home.
Programs I'd use often:
iMovie to create photo slide shows
Office for Mac
Adobe Flash Player (for work website)
Occassionally to watch movies (netflix or from itunes)
I'd also be surfing the web, accessing my work website, using it to store photos (how many photos can be stored?) and using it to listen to music from my Itunes while I'm working on it.
Most likely I'd probably have 2-3 windows open at once - Work website, photos, and word. Plus music playing. Is the MBA able to handle all of this? Would it get too hot? Or would I be better off keeping the Pro?

Your task list is very similar to mine and I haven't had any issues with my new MBA (13", i7, 1.7, 256) at all (other than the case "creaking" problem—that I might have finally fixed—described elsewhere in the forum.
Knowing that the internals of the Air are not upgradable, I anguished for months before upgrading from my trusty 2009 13" MBP.
Will 4 GB RAM be enough? (Yes, because I didn’t see any real difference when I upgraded my old 4GB MacBook Pro to 8GB. This has proven itself true in my day-to-day use of the MBA. The SSD makes up for any speed loss by only having 4GB.)
More importantly, will having only 256GB of storage be sufficient? (I had a 320GB hard drive on the MBP that was only about 2/3 full, so yeah…after some much needed archiving of old stuff to an external drive it was more than sufficient.)
Will not having a optical disk player impact the usability? (I used the disk slot on the MBP only a dozen times to install software, and only once to watch a movie. Worst case scenario is that I have to pull an external DVD drive out of storage for occasional use or drop $79 for Apple’s proprietary player if it ever becomes an ongoing need.)
The only time the fan spins up to max is when I did the initial import to iPhoto, when using flash, and with one particular screen saver (Colour Clock, now disabled). I haven't regretted the purchase at all, but I'm not getting rid of the MBP, just in case the Air ever needs to go into Apple for repairs.

MacBook Pro vs MacBook air, what is best for my life

I'm looking at a MacBook air/MacBook Pro. I have no specific one in mind. I don't know a whole lot about MacBooks aside from the fact that they are a bit pricy but they can get the job done(I think), but can a refurbished MacBook under $850?
The only requirements for the MacBook I can think of right now are
• enough memory space for decent photo editing software, decent programming software, text editors, one or two utility applications and whatever software you need for learning how to make iPhone apps
• the ability to run multiple windows at once(example: photoshop in one window, the Mac store in another, a text editor in another, and two or three web pages open; this is at max).
• one that will last at least 5-6 hours per full charge(looking for around 7-8, but 5 hours is fine).
• has the ability to run a better firewall than a windows computer from 2004 running an old operation system.
That's all I can think of at the moment. So could someone tell me what amount of memory(at minimum) and how much ram are needed(at minimum) for the MacBook to serve my purpose? Also what model would that be?

I am going to sell my macbook air (2011) as I am replacing it with a macbook pro retina. I want to remove my files and programs from it before I sell it. What is the best way to go about this?

1) Perform a Time Machine or Cloned image backup of your system.
2) Test the Clone tomake sure it works, by booting to it (using the option key).
3) Boot to the Recovery Partition, then perform an erasure, followed by a reinstallation of the OS.
4) Shut off the Mac, after instllation and before the reboot. This will permit the next user to experience a "fresh out of the box" experience.
5) Use the Time Machine or Cloned image to migrate your apps, users & files to your new system, using SETUP ASSISTANT. Do not use Migration Assistant.

Notes has become unresponsive on my macbook air, what can I do?

Notes has always worked perfectly, but today, on my Macbook Air, not on my iPhone, if I try to create a new note or message or email a note, the program becomes un-responsive and I have to force quit.
Any ideas?
My default account is icloud, and there are a lot of notes that are valuable to me and I need to save.

That sounds like a hardware problem. Contact Apple for service. If you have an Apple Store near you, make an appointment at the Genius Bar and take it in for the techs to look at.

In-car adapter for macbook air - what's the latest on this please?

I've got the latest macbook air and need to use it, and charge it, from a 12 volt car socket. I understand that I cannot do this though - surely I must have been misinformed?
It seems that apple do make an "empower" socket rated at 15 volts that you can use on a plane, but it doesn't recharge the battery. However, clearly this limits the usefulness of sorting out some kind of rig-up, suggested in some chat rooms, with a dc-dc (ie 15v - 12v) adapter.
Does anyone know where a dc in-car adapter for a macbook air is available?

I see the comments about using an AC Inverter, but I prefer to speak about solutions that will work with solar chargers too. An AC inverter will not only NOT work from a solar panel without extra & heavy equipment, but it wastes more than 20-40% of your power... first it converts your battery power to dirty household AC, then your Apple adaptor converts it back to DC for your Mac.
I suggest using a DC adaptor and bypass the middleman.

Cannot get migration assistant working from PowerBook to MacBook Air - what am I doing wrong?

I am proud possessor of a new MacBook Air with Mac OS X 10.7. Up to now, I used a PowerBook with Mac OX X 10.4.11. Although the two macs - old and new one - are connected via the same WLAN network, I cannot get the migration assistant going. The two cannot find each other, although they are only 5 centimetres apart....what am I doing wrong? Do I need an update for the PowerBook? And if yes, which one? Or should I give up?
