I spilled juice on my MacBook pro on the 16th, what do I say to them when I bring it into the store?

What do I say?

Sorry that happened to you.
My stock response:
Whenever a liquid spill occurs the first thing that has to happen is the laptop should be shut down immediately. All power must be removed as soon as possible. It is especially important that the battery be disconnected and removed.
All affected parts must be removed from the laptop. No attempt should be made to start/restart the computer since this could potentially damage the logic board beyond all repair.
There's more.

  • Using a MacBook Pro in the Store

I'm in the Apple Store in Walnut Creek, CA, using a MacBook Pro. They have a few on display and it's 2 hours before closing -- nobody's using them...weird.
    Anyhow, onto my impressions:
This magnet thing is stronger than my powerbook adapter! I think if i tripped over the cord, the laptop would STILL go flying.
Safari did not load right away...stayed blank. Reloaded Safari and it's really really fast.
Word did not start right away, had to force quit. Now it works, don't see any differences in speed...
    Excel is so so
iPhoto is really fast. It's way faster than my powerbook, but then again, my Powerbook iPhoto has over 10K photos/videos. This iPhoto has only 354 photos.
iTunes -- can't really see any speed gains
the biggest and coolest gain is the screen. sad to say to you guys out there, but with this screen and resolution, i don't see a need to get a 17".
you can ALMOST put two full Safari screens side by side, but full screen pics in iPhoto are amazing.
it's really bright, which i like.
things i don't like are the magnetic adapter...man, can you say i really had to pull this thing? i'm not a weak guy either, i can bench press 200lbs and weigh about 155, not too shabby but definitely far from good.
battery life is a no show...you know how like, when you unplug the adapter, you can see a remaining time? well, someone disabled it and i unplugged the magnetic adapter -- no battery life time, just the battery icon................c'mon guys....

I'm heading to the Apple Store in Danbury CT tomorrow to test out a MacBook Pro. I'll happily post what I like and dislike here.

  • Buying a macbook pro in the store?

    Hi everyone,
I have a rather simple question but I couldnt manage to find the answer on the web so I decided to give it a post.
I'm a student at the moment in shanghai and I will be visiting HK in a couple of days. During my trip i'd like to take a macbook pro (retina display) back with me to shanghai, since the notebook isn't available yet in china. So my question is the following.
When I go to the Apple store in HK (since I will only be there for a couple of days) will I be able to get my notebook right away?, because I'm looking forward to upgrade the RAM and the Flashdrive so it will take some adjusting. Furthermore I am not informed about the student discounts in HK, do I need to show or prove it somehow?
Thanks to everyone who read the post, I appreciate your efford
    BR
    Chriz

As far as I know, neither the RAM nor the hard drive can be upgraded later in the new MBP with Retina display. I believe the RAM is actually glued in. If you want to have it configured by Apple, you need to order it online from the Apple store - I would assume that the stores will have certain stock models in stock. You would have to call the store to find out which models are available.

  • I was told if I buy my Macbook Pro in the store I do not get the 100 dollar gift card is it true?

    Is this true?

How to get your gift card:
Buy a qualifying Mac or iPad from the Apple Online Store for Education, the Apple Retail Store, or an Apple Authorized Campus Store, and you’ll receive your Back to School Gift Card with your purchase.
Seems like it needs to be purchased from Apple at one of the above options.

  • I split juice on my Macbook pro and now it wont work

I split juice on my MacBook pro and immediately unplugged it and dried it off. I had it sleeping with the screen closed when it happened. It shut itself off and won't turn back on. It's been about 45 minutes since it happened and I plugged it back in. As you know, the charger has a light on it indicating that it is charging. this light is normally bright but is now very faint. I spilled juice on it as well so maybe that's why. I also hit the button on the side of the Mac that shows the battery power level it showed up as normal but when I pressed it agian, it didn't show anything. I can't open up my Mac because I can't find a screwdriver small enough. I'm not sure if I should wait more or send it in for repair. Please help because I'm freaking out right now.

Our condolences and conmiseration for your loss. Your wallet is about to go on a crash diet.
If the Mac is old-ish, best bet is to invest on a new one. After all, the 2012 models have just come out so we are at the start of the update cycle. Else you'll have to weigh the pros of the cost of new technology vs. the cost of repairing a used computer.
If the Mac has truly bit the dust, have the techs extract the hard disk drive, put it in an external enclosure and you can use that to recover your files and/or migrate them and all your settings to whatever new Mac you get.
Been there, done that, but not due to juice. My Early 2008 MBP suddenly just died when I put it to sleep one day; fried logic board. Opted to upgrade to a Late 2011 MBP and used the old Mac's HDD to recover all my stuff onto the new one. Even my Office:2011 registration was recovered.

  • I spilled water on my MacBook  Pro. What do I do?

Immediately after spilling, I wiped down my MacBook Pro. The keyboard has a rubber cover so I'm hoping the keyboard was protected; however, my trackpad began to react slowly to my touch.
After 5 minutes or so, the trackpad began responding better, but to be safe I turned it off as directed. What I did not know is that you're not supposed to turn it back on.
Since I was unaware of that fact, I stupidly turned it back on. It functioned funny and was gray for a while, but everything ended up coming together and everything seemed fine; however, I noticed my fan turn on.
Worried, I turned it off immediately.
After shutting it off for the second time, I learned that I should keep it upside down, opened, with a towel under the keyboard and trackpad. For the past 15 minutes it's been like that.
I only bought this laptop, ironically, on the day Steve Jobs died. My mom definitely will be ******. Is there any hope that my laptop will be okay? Or any other suggestions?
As of now, I cannot open the laptop up because of the 10 tightly bolted screws.

Liquid spills, why your MacBook chassis is a one-way valve for spills
After a substantial spill many people will turn their notebook upside down and shake it, not only does this not work, but it spreads liquid havoc throughout your machine and makes things often as bad as possible.
The keyboard itself acts like a one way valve in the case of a substantial liquid spill. While liquid pours into the bottom chassis easy, it does not come out easily at all, and in the case of any spill, most of it will not come out by turning it upside down. Disconnect all power and contact Apple for diagnostics and repair.
Do not attempt to, after a spill, ‘dry out your MacBook’ and test it
After a spill most people invariably try to “dry out” their notebook by various methods, including hair dryers and otherwise. This both does not work, and after a substantial spill of any magnitude, even if the liquid was water, residue is left behind.
There are additionally many very tight places inside your notebook where liquids will linger for a very long time, and cause corrosion or worse.
Immediately unplug your notebook and contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and parts replacement.
In the case of very minor spills people will “dry out” their notebook and feel success that their notebook is working ok, however invariably in nearly all instances after 4-14 days an error / fault pops up and is usually followed by more.
Yes, when you said "it worked well for a while".....99 times out of 100 thats the case (see above)!
Is there any hope that my laptop will be okay?
In case of a spill, damage estimates are impossible,.....ANYTHING CAN BE FIXED , PERIOD........the question is costs.....if you spend say, $600 + to repair a $600 (value) laptop (as an example) , then it becomes almost futile.
contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and cost estimation ....possible parts replacement.

  • I just spilled water on my macbook pro? What should I do?

I just spilled water on my macbook pro? What should I do?

    Hi j,
Shut it down, unplug it, and if it has a removable battery, remove it. After that, it becomes controversial. If possible, I believe in removing bottom cover and keyboard, then dabbing up any water that may have reached the "innards." After that, you can leave it open and point a fan at it for two days or so. Another option is to carefully position it in a bag of uncooked rice (so no rice will get inside it) and seal the bag, so the rice can absorb the water. Some people will tell you not to mess with it at all, just bring it to an Apple Store.

  • I spilled milk tea on Macbook Pro

I spilled milk tea on Macbook Pro and few drops went inside audio and one USB port. Both are not working. What should I do? Someone suggested cleaning it using nail polish remover. Will it help?
It's 13 inch Macbook Pro late 2011 model.
    Thanks.

I wouldn't use acetone at all (nail polish remover). I wouldn't think that cleaning the ports would do any good anyway. The ports probably shorted out and are simply not going to be useable -> you would have to get a new logic board to fix the problem.
Liquid and electronics are a bad 'mix'.
    Sorry,
    Clinton

  • I spilled pop on my macbook pro, mostly on speakers and screen, however the macbook still works fine, should i contact them and ask what should i do or try to dry it off.....please help??

Hi , i spilled sprite on my macbook pro mostly onto speakers but however, i dried it off immideately and the macbook is working fine so far. Speakers still work normal but i am worried thatere might be some problems later on. Please suggest me some good ideas to furhter mae sure that the mac is fine?

I suggest that you take the MBP into an Apple store genius bar for a free evaluation.  There are liquid sensors inside and they should check if any have been activated.  This may give you a clue as to what you may expect regarding future reliability.
    Ciao.

  • I just dropped my new macbook pro on the ground, it dents a little. So can I bring it to apple store, and repair it for free? I bought it just one month ago.

I just dropped my new macbook pro on the ground, it dents a little. So can I bring it to apple store, and repair it for free? BTW: I bought it just one month ago. Thank you very much

No, user caused accidents are not warranty coverage,  nor are spills, loss, theft etc.
all these user caused issues have no bearing on the warranty coverage.
    they are outside of same.
All laptop mfg. are identical in this nature  (same with your car too of course)

  • My sister spoiled water into my macbook pro and the power went off in two seconds. I took off the cover and dried the water with tissues. Still it doesnt work. What do i do?

My sister spoiled water into my macbook pro and the power went off in two seconds. I took off the cover and dried the water with tissues. Still it doesnt work. What do i do?

Do you mean when the water was spilled on it, it shut down?  That would indicate a major internal short occured.
Really, I'd say you need to take it into Apple or an Apple authorized repair center and get it looked at.  Odds are you've got a significantly damaged device that will require professional repair and parts replacement to get working again.

  • I have an older macbook pro and the hard drive is starting to go (making loud noises). i tried to back up to an external hard drive (my passport essential se) using time machine and the computer keeps shutting down. suggestions to complete backup please?

I have an older macbook pro and the hard drive is starting to go (making loud noises). i tried to back up to an external hard drive (my passport essential se) using time machine and the computer keeps shutting down. the same thing happens when just trying to save my pictures from iphoto to a flash drive. suggestions to complete backup please?

Sounds like you'll need to access that drive while it is not booted. You need to replace it anyway, so do that, then one way or another (ext enclusure, et), access it and copy files.
If you keep trying to boot it, you might kill it for good and not get your files, so just swap it out first.

  • How do I use my MacBook Pro to watch exactly what my digital cable box would send to my TV?

How do I use my MacBook Pro to watch exactly what my digital cable box would send to my TV?

You could use Elgato Systems' EyeTV product to view external video sources on your MBP.
There is additional cost involved, but it would achive what you want. You can buy the Hybrid product, and connect your external DVD player via Composite (red, white and yellow connectors) to your MBP via the EyeTV.
