I spilled sticky drink over my keyboard . . .

I spilled a sticky drink over my keyboard.  I immediatly removed battery and turned keyboard upside down with an obsorbant cloth.  I left it alone for a few days.  Now the computer comes on but the keyboard does not work and I do not get an arrow for touchpad.  Any chance this can be saved?

Please list your model number when posting.  You can try removing the keyboard, and attaching an external keyboard, to see if that resolves the situation.  If it does, you can pick up a new keyboard, and swap it on.  Also look for anything spilled on the motherboard after you remove the keyboard.

I accidentally spilled a drink on my keyboard of my Toshiba Satellite A500-1GL.
I turned off the laptop immediately and dried it out.
It is being left off until I have a reply.
note: I spilt the liquid just about 1/4 of the keyboard.
    _thank you._

    Hi
You should turn the unit upside down and should wait until the unit dried.
In best case the unit should power up properly but it could be possible that your motherboard or another part like RAM module or keyboard could be affected.
Something similar happened to my girlfriends notebook. In my case the RAM module was dead and notebook could not boot up I replaced the RAM and was happy to see the Toshiba splash screen

  • Sweet drink over my keyboard

My daughters friend poored a glas of limonade over the keyboard of my MacBook Pro. Now several keys on that side of the keyboard won´t respond. I also experienced that the display showed the firewire symbol moving arond the screen when rebooting the machine.
I have thaught of opening the machine to clean the keys. How do I open the machine? Or what should I do?

First of all, do not put power to the machine until after the spill has been cleaned up and the machine is bone dry. Remove the battery at once to prevent the Mac from being turned on accidentally.
You should open the machine in order to clean up every trace of the lemonade. You can find instructions at ifixit or powerbook medic:
    http://www.ifixit.com/
    http://www.powerbookmedic.com/
Use deionized or distilled water on a cotton swab to clean up any visible liquid or residue. If you leave it, the acids in the lemonade could eat away circuitry over time.
The keyboard will likely need to be cleaned as a separate project:
    http://repair4laptop.org/notebook_keyboard.htm
You may even need to replace the keyboard.
I don't know what the explanation for the firewire symbol might be.
Keep in mind that the liquid could continue to trickle down into the machine over time, and later on drip and cause damage. You should be able to see where it has gone, as liquids leave traces. It's imperative to get it all cleaned up.
Once clean, be sure the machine is bone dry before putting power to it. This will take several days in a warm, dry environment, but NOT in an oven. A high shelf in a warm dry room would be best.
    Good luck!

  • I accidentally spilled milk all over my keyboard

The other day I dropped a whole glass of milk on my keyboard.  I was able to get most of it out and turn on my computer without any problems, however I'm still worried about a couple things.  I'm concerned that there's still milk in there and that it is going to cause damage, I'm also worried that my keys are going to continue sticking (they've gotten better since I've been using the keyboard for the past hour, but there are still a fair few having a hard time registering).  How can I fix these problems without getting a whole new computer?  I'm still under warranty, would that cover the damages, or would it be water damage?

It will cause damage if it hasn't done so already. It is not covered by your warranty. You need to take the computer to your Apple retailer ASAP to see if it's still fixable.

  • Spilled tropicana juice all over my keyboard

I just spilt juice all over my keyboard but the computer is working fine except the keyboard keys are now sticky and making it hard to type. But the software and everything works the same as it usually does. How much would it cost to replace just the keyboard if everything else is alright?

You need to contact Apple for appt and pricing
Do not attempt to, after a spill, ‘dry out your MacBook’ and test it
After a spill most people invariably try to “dry out” their notebook by various methods, including hair dryers and otherwise. This both does not work, and after a substantial spill of any magnitude, even if the liquid was water, residue is left behind.
There are additionally many very tight places inside your notebook where liquids will linger for a very long time, and cause corrosion or worse.
Immediately unplug your notebook and contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and parts replacement.
In the case of very minor spills people will “dry out” their notebook and feel success that their notebook is working ok, however invariably in nearly all instances after 4-14 days an error / fault pops up and is usually followed by more.
In case of a spill, damage estimates are impossible,.....anything can be fixed, without question.......the question is cost.
contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and cost estimation ....possible parts replacement.

  • Spilled water over the keyboard of my MacBook Pro.

Spilled water over the keyboard of my MacBook Pro. 13 inches. Used paper and dried it straigt away, it was working fine. Now, a few days later, my left shift-button, the ctrl-button and right-arrow button do not work. What can I do to try to fix this?
My Mac is working completely fine. It was maybe 0,5 dl of water...

Nothing that you can do to fix it. Best to just leave it off and take it to your local Apple Store or AASP. No telling how much it's going to cost you - there are liquid sensors all around your computer so the service centers will be able to tell that it's a case of liquid damage, even if there is no corrosion yet.
You just have to be careful with any kind of liquids around notebooks - liquids and electricity just don't play well together.
    Sorry,

  • My Macbook smells like a beer cause I spilled beer all over it last night

I bought a new macbook in November and the other night some girl accidentally spilled about half a beer all over the keyboard and it immediately powered off. I then turned it upside down and did my best to dry it off. Once that happened my natural drunken remedy was to plug it into a wall outlet and try turning it on, probably pushed the button 5-10 times with no luck. So I then took out the battery and turned the put the laptop upside down in a V shape and let it sit all night like 12 hours. In the morning I put the thing back together and tried booting it up again with no luck... The white sleep light on the outside turned on while I let it charge up, but it was flashing in weird flickering ways (however its not doing that anymore) About an hour later I tried turning it on again and it started up but the keyboard and mousepad doesn't work at all. After googling the issue I realize that I may have made some bad decisions trying to turn it on so I now have removed the battery again and I have the laptop laying in the V position and I am wondering what I should do next...
On another note the thing is only a few months old so if I just take it to the store or buy the applecare will they just replace it for me? Does anyone know the details about the warranty and apple care for water damage or whatever may be wrong with my macbook?
    Thanks for your help, Cheers!

Mort hit the nail on the head with AppleCare, unfortunately you won't be able to claim coverage protection on a spill.
Here's the problem, with spills... they're often worse over time, then they are initially. The problem you're going to be faced with is corrosion and moisture build up on the internal components. Especially with beer, once the hops and the yeast from the beer settles and oxidizes you'll potentially run into mold on the inside of the machine.
I had a good friend, several years back, spilled milk all over his PowerBook G4. He cleaned it up, thought the issue was taken care of and ran the machine off an external keyboard, mouse and monitor for a good 8-9 months. One day it just stopped working so he sent it to Apple, citing hardware failure. Never telling them he spilled milk all over it, a while back. Apple sent it back to him and stated that the machine was beyond economical repair due to a mold build up on almost all of the major components.
We ended up gutting the machine and when we opened it up it was the most horrid smelling, visually blinding site I'd seen before. Almost everything inside had mold growing on it, corrosion to the printed circuit boards, rust on all visible aluminum and grime that made us both question his decision to not have it serviced right away.
Long story, short... the sooner the better on deciding to get the machine serviced/cleaned/repaired. Spending a few hundred dollars now seems like a much better decision than having to buy a whole new machine a few months down the road.

  • Spilled Soda on my T500 keyboard

So I spilled soda on my T500 keyboard a couple of weeks ago. No soda came out of the bottom but I cleaned the spill pretty well with a dry cloth. But the keys are now sticky and for some of them I have to press harder for them to work. What can I do? Note not super tech savvy so explain everything in layman terms please.

Ideally, you should replace it. If you want to try salvaging it, do the following:
Follow this guide to remove the keyboard:
    http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/43y6630_03.pdf
Once you've removed the keyboard, give it a good rinse and let it dry COMPLETELY. Have the water run through the keyboard tray from one direction to another.
Reinstall the keyboard when it is COMPLETELY dry. The COMPLETELY part is important because water can hide in nooks and crannies of the keys, which will cause a short when it receives power.

How to hide cut/copy/paste/Replace… menu on the UIWebView when it is being displayed over the keyboard.
Detail: I am having a HTML from, having text box, displayed using UIWebView. If user types in text box it shows the keyboard. Now If user tap and hold on text box it shows a popup menu. Now while keyboard and pop up are being displayed user scrolls the view. At this time it shows pop up over the keyboard which I need to hide.
I tried setMenuVisible of UIMenuController when popup rect and keyboard rect intersects each other on viewDidScroll but it didn't help me.
Any clues will help a lot.
    Thanks.

i bouhght my Macbook pro retina display 13 Inch i5  a week ago and I spilled a liquid on my keyboard , and i would like to know how much coast to repair the damage in apple store , i didnt buy in the offical apple shop. Some places are asking to pay 620 Pounds.

The only way you can get a valid estimate is by someone examining the MBP directly.  Since no one on these forums can see or examine your MBP, you will need to get this infomation from a qualified repair shop.  It seems that you already have secured one estimate.  You can also bring the MBP to an Apple store and have a genius bar examine it for FREE.
    Ciao.

  • I spilled milk on my imac keyboard

I accidentally spilled milk on my iMacs keyboard.i immediately took out the battery's and let it dry on a paper towel in the sun but I just realized that milk would only stick when it dries and it's the wireless keyboard so I can't even open it without breaking it. I was thinking about putting it in the dishwasher and then letting it dry for a week or so. Is this the right thing to do.
I still see the milk in the inside of the keyboard and it won't come out. My keyboard is the newest ones that are wireless.
What do you think I should do?
    Thank you

You should go out and buy a replacement keyboard. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the chances of your keyboard surviving a milk spill are pretty low.

  • I spilled wine on my laptop keyboard. Now it won't turn on. What can I do?, I spilled wine on my laptop keyboard. Now it won't turn on. What can I do?

II spilled wine on my laptop keyboard. Now it won't turn on. What can I do?, I spilled wine on my laptop keyboard. Now it won't turn on. What can I do?

Don't attempt to turn it back on.  Remove the battery if you have a user removable battery.  Take the mac to an Apple Store or AASP and expect a very large repair bill.  More times then not, a liquid spill on a keyboard results in a damaged logic board, which usually costs several hundreds of dollars to replace.  Liquid damage is not covered under warranty if you have AppleCare.  Check with your renters/homeowners insurance to see if it may be covered.

  • Help! I had a spill, sticky keys, and now unresponsive keyboard.

A little over a week ago someone spilled some tea on my MBP. I immediately turned it off turned it upside down an left it alone for about an hour. It was working fine after, just a few sticky keys, most of which was the space key. A friend recommended taking a q-tip dipping in rubbing alcohol and rubbing it around the sticky keys because it had a low evaporation temperature and that it soak up the remaining liquid. I tried a few times and it worked, but certain keys, mostly my space key just got stick again. I tried earlier today and may I over did it a little and spilled a bit of the rubbing alcohol on the keyboard and track pad. I turned it off and left alone for a bit. I restart my MBP; I heard a weird beeping with a blank screen. I restart again, everything seems to be working fine. Now the keyboard is not responding and the track pad assumes that I'm always right-clicking.
I'm not all that tech-savvy, and I rather not try to take it apart myself to try and fix with some online manual. Is there anything that I can do before I just go to the Mac store and have them look at it?

No, there probably isn't anything else you can or should do — your cleaning efforts have put paid to what was probably already a dire situation. Just take it in to be repaired, and brace yourself for a bill that could be anywhere between $350 and $1000+.

  • Sticky keys after spilling a drink on Equium A200-196

I recently spilt a drink on my laptop i have removed the keyboard but am unabal to remove the back plate from the keys.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how i might clean the sticky keys or is it a question of purchasing a new keyboard?

    > Its basically a wafer thin metallic plate that remains attached to the keys once you remove the keyboard, it would appear the keys are connected to it in some way, i wasnt sure if it was possible to separate them?
Dont think you can remove it. As I said only the keycaps are removable.

  • I accedently spilled water over my keyboard! PLEASE HELP!

3 days ago, I was doing my work when I accidentally spilled sprite or water onto my iPads Bellkin ultimate keyboard for generation 2 iPad. It still worked, but 10 min later, it just stopped. I tried putting rice on the keyboard because rice is a fast water absorber, and only some keys worked, or the keys just flipped with other keys. I tried researching a cure, and the first step is usually take the batteries out, right, but this keyboard dosn't use batteries. Please help? Anyone?

Can you afford some new silica gel packets? By some and then shake the keyboard to get all the raw rice out of it and put the keyboard and the packets in a large baggie. Let it sit for 4 to 5 days in a cool, dry place like a cupboard. After that try it again.
