I started backing up my iTunes library on DVDs

I started to back up my iTunes library on DVDs some time ago but ran out of DVDs.  I now have a new supply in but I can't access the back up option under file/library - it doesn't appear at all.  All I get access to is organise library, export library, export list.  Could this be because I stopped half-way through?  Can anybody tell me how to continue with my back up please?  Thanks a lot.

No it's because they made a change in the way you back up your Library. I haven't been able to get an answer as to how we are suppose to do it in the 10.4 version. If anyone knows how please share the information as it is really getting frustrating.

You have posted in the itunes U forum.  Itunes U is the place where colleges universities and museums post educational material for students.
Perhaps posting in the appropriate forum would help.
Just copy everything to the USB stick.

  • Backing up entire iTunes library to DVD

I am trying to backup my library to a dvd by file, library, backup to DVD. I am able to check the fields in the backup box but when I hit the backup, it does nothing. I cannot use the cancel button either. If I close this box, I get another box which states I need to highlight the playlist I want to backup. I want to backup the entire library.

    Mary,
Nowadays people don't back up to CD/DVD. They get an *external hard drive* and copy over their entire iTunes folder, and whatever else they are backing up.
The advantages are (1) this method does not depend on iTunes's horribly unreliable burning capability (2) you can look at the external and see that the stuff you backed up is really there. (If you want to see an unhappy person, it is when they try to restore from CD/DVD and discover that it did not burn correctly in the first place.) (3) it lets you back up your other valuable files besides your music.

How can I get my non purchased song content back into my itunes library from my ipod touch 4. My itunes had disappeared so I had to get another itunes & start again. I still have the original song content in the ipod.

I got a new computer and backed up my iTunes library to an external hard drive.  The external hard drive is not allowing me to access the drive.  I no longer have access to the old computer.  Is there a way to transfer the songs from my iPod touch to my new computer?

That's a bummer, didn't realize the exHD files were corrupt, esp if you have tried from another PC and not just this new computer.
You can get purchases from the itunes store transferred from an iPod using these directions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848?viewlocale=en_US
If you want everything (meaning non-itunes songs, app data, photos, etc) you need to buy a 3rd-party ipod manager that support iTouch. Here is an iLounge article to start your research:

Recently erased my entire mac HD do to mavericks update going wrong. I do not have a back up for my music. But my itunes match account  has all my music. If i add this computer with my itunes match will it put all the music i had back in my itunes library or just upload the little bit of music i purchased on itunes in the past that im only seeing now in my itunes? I do not want itunes match to  sync  or upload the little bit of purchased music i have on my itunes now..Please Help Thanks..

    Hello gogreenj14,
If you had iTunes Match updated with all of your non iTunes purchased content already, then yes, when you enable iTunes Match with the following article it will have all the content that has been uploaded to iTunes Match will be available for download.
iTunes: How to add a computer or iOS device to iTunes Match
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4913
Open the latest version of iTunes on the computer you intend to add. You can download the latest version of iTunes here.
Sign in with the Apple ID you use with iTunes Match.
Choose Store > Turn On iTunes Match.
Click the Add This Computer button.
When prompted, enter your Apple ID password.
iTunes will automatically begin scanning your computer's library for matches.
A status indicator will allow you to track progress. You may also manually pause and resume the process at any time by clicking the Stop or Start button.
Once iTunes has completed matching and uploading your iTunes library, your music in iCloud will be integrated into your local music library. A download button will appear to the right of any content that you have in iCloud that doesn't already exist on your computer.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

  • How do I get my ipod items to go back into my itunes library? When i sync it says if you sync you will erase the contents of my ipod.

My Ipod 60gb has 2600+ Items on it. For some reason my Itunes Library only has 1500+. When I try to sync my Ipod to add new songs it says
if you sync you will erase the contants of your Ipod. Help

Your iPod can only be synced with one iTunes library at a time.  If you try to sync it with another library, it will erase the current contents of the iPod and replace them with the contents from the new library.
If you have content you need to copy from your iPod back to your iTunes library, see this older post from another forum member Zevoneer discussing the different ways to do this.

  • Ipod Classic 160gb transfer data software? Do Apple provide any facilities to recapture all music etc from an ipod classic and save them back into the itunes library or even better onto a separate pc memory or external drive for backup purposes?

I now have around 3,000 songs on my ipod Classic and still adding. I didn't want to save them in itunes library so I deleted them from there once I had them on the ipod. I have since found out that the ipod music cannot be transferred back to the itunes library nor can I extract them from the ipod directly. Do apple provide such facilities or softwareto do this and, if not, is there any recommended and safe software to perform it? I see from Google that there are plenty of programs available but I want to be sure that what I use is safe, reliable and not breaking any of Apple's terms and conditions. Any advice would be welcome.

    Hello Chris Jones,
I just found this and I'm trying to figure it out so your post is an excellent starting point, thank you! Since you posted this in Feb are there any things you would change or you found out after doing it? And how is everything running?
As a data point, I just added a SSD as the startup drive to an older mac pro (1,1) which is only used for Logic Pro and the speed now is amazing. Now I want to see if I can off-load the same things you have dealt with. Any additional insight will be greatly appreciated and thanks again for taking to time to document it.

  • Daily back-up of iTunes Library

I want to back-up my iTunes Library about every day, since I've lost all my ratings, etc, several times recently. I got Automator to copy the file into a new location...but how can I get it to do it automatically at some frequency -- start-up, login, 6 am every day, or anything.

It may have something to do with the fact that iCal didn't open automatically...
I just did a test run and it went silently, not opening Automator.
    Try recreating the workflow.
    What I used was just
Get Specified Finder Items- with the iTunes folder placed in the action
Copy Finder Items- to destination folder
Save As Plug-in for iCal Alarm
If it doesn't open iCal, something is wrong with the way Automator is communicating with iCal, maybe permissions, maybe preferences, but it should open.
Even if it doesn't, the alarm in iCal should be an Open File alarm, not a Run Script, of course with the named workflow as the selected file. If you have to look for it, it should be under
    <username>/Library/Workflows/Applications/iCal/

  • HT1751 I need to uninstall and reinstall iTunes (it won't let me update). So, how do I copy or back up my iTunes library of over 1,500 songs? Can I use a Flash Drive to do so?

I need to uninstall and reinstall iTunes (it won't let me update). I have IE 8 on Windows XP, and iTunes 10 something. In my Program files list I see iTunes and iTunes (2) and even iPod and iPod (2) where a tech had to back up and do this for me before. I'm just trying to fix it all. I keep getting the "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in the box below." I can even run a search and find the folder, but it gives me the same error message. I was planning on using the Microsoft Fix-It tool  to help uninstall then Reinstall iTunes. But I need to backup my library. So, how do I copy or back up my iTunes library of over 1,500 songs? Can I copy the folder to desktop or can I use a Flash Drive to backup my music? I don't want to do anything until I know for sure how I can backup my songs, and then reinstall them into iTunes. Thanks for any help.

Ok, thanks that helps. I don't have an external hard drive though. What about backing up through 'the cloud'? I'm just wondering since my husband syncs his iPod to the PC through iTunes and he's worried that he will lose all the songs on his iPod if the library is lost from iTunes and he tries to 'sync' it up again. I'm not exactly sure how to  'copy the entire iTunes folder' either. I kinda suck at this unless I have step by step instructions, which I haven't found yet on iTunes help or other sources.
The only way I know how to back anything up is by going back to a restore point, etc. (as stated before, we don't have an external hard drive.)
    Thanks for the info.

  • How can i back up my itunes library onto an external hard drive?

I can seem to figure out how to back up my Itunes library onto my external hard drive. Any advise?

  • How can i back up my iTunes library if i want to uninstall it?

how can i back up my iTunes library if i want to uninstall it?

    Quit iTunes.
    Locate your external hard drive.
Mac: On the Desktop or Finder sidebar.
    Windows: In My Computer
Drag the iTunes folder (backed up earlier) from your external hard drive to whatever location you desire on your internal hard drive. It is recommended that you choose the default location for the iTunes folder, which is:
    Mac OS X: /Users/username/Music
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\
    Windows Vista: \Users\username\My Music\
    Windows 7 or 8: \Users\username\Music\
Open iTunes while holding down the Option key (Mac) or Shift key (Windows).
In the resulting dialog, click the Choose Library button.
Select the iTunes folder you just moved to the internal hard drive.
Click Choose (Mac OS X) or Open (Windows) and then choose the iTunes Library file inside .
After following these steps, iTunes will open and your iTunes Library will be restored.

  • How do I back-up my itunes library in newest version of itunes?

How do I back-up my itunes library in newest version of itunes?

Fast backup for iTunes library  (Windows)
Grab SyncToy  2.1, a free tool from MS. This can be used to copy your entire iTunes library (& other important data folders) onto another hard drive or network share. You can then use SyncToy periodically to synchronise or echo your library to the backup. A preview will show which files need to be updated giving you a chance to spot unexpected changes and during the run only the new or updated files will be copied saving lots of time.
If your media is all organised below the main iTunes folder then you should also be able to open the backup library on any system running the same version of iTunes, regardless of the drive letter or path it appears on.
