I started seeing random box patterns on my desktop. They would disppear when I tried to get screen shots.
I have a mid-2010 27" iMac i5 with 16gb Ram and the ATI Radeon HD 5750 1024 MB. OS X 10.10
The problem first appeared with the upgrade to Mavericks. I reverted to the previous version of the OS but still saw them occasionally. I've since upgraded to Yosemite and the problem is much more pronounced. I have now had a few crashes were the display goes black and the machine reboots. I've had a couple of events that say a graphics error has occurred.
I have run a number of graphics performance tests that are designed to exercise the GPU but they never fail.
I would have included a screen shot of the display issues but whenever I attempt to capture one it clears the issue.
The machine appears to be running warmer than it had previously. Unfortunately I don't have any hardware logs from before the issue started.
I've run the AHT several times but it never finds any issue. I've also tun TechTool Pro7 and it finds no issue. Any help will be much appreciated. I did discover an issue with a bank of RAM but I've since replaced it.
AHT runs at a pretty low level in comparison with the tools the Apple techs have at the genius bar. There were several issues users with that iMac vintage were having a year or year and a half ago. Vertical lines, sometimes blue, or yellow or pink or mixture or boxes. The Apple store genius bar techs found the problem to be with the graphics chips. They were able to remove and replace the chips and all was then fine. Since what you are seeing is consistent over a couple Mac OS X versions it looks more like a hardware issue than OS X.
Take the iMac to an Apple store genius bar (I know that isn't a fun thing to do) and have the techs run their diagnostic tools.

Another Start Up/Random Shut Down Problem
Ok, so I know there are a million threads aleady about this, but I really cant seem to find someone who has a real good suggestion, if there is any...So I have a Mac Book 512/60GB and have had the random shut down thing happen a few times. One time (today actualy) I couldnt start up. I pushed the button about 5 times and the light came on and then turned right off. I waited a little bit and then it worked. Twice when this happened and after I started up the light for the iSight stayed on and the camera didnt work until I restarted. I was in iChat using Vid chat when this happened. I was thinking about making a genius bar appointment to see what their advice was because my local store seems to be up to date on most things and this seems to be a big problem, but I figured I would check on here first. Does anyone have an actual solution that has worked for them???
Thanks a lot
-Alex
Mac Book Mac OS X (10.4.7) 2Ghz, 512 RAM, 60GBWell the Genius bar ppl were great as always. They told me they could do it in-store but it would take more than 4 days and it seems that people have been getting theirs back fairly quick. I backed up everything on my iBook and had the macbook shipped to my school, so hopefully it will beat me there. He told me they have seen several of these, but when I tried to get details they seemed a little hush hush and confused. The common agreement from the geniuses was that it was a logic bored issue and thats what he wrote on the work authorization, i also need a topcase replacement as there is obvious discoloration. Im gona assume that they do run additional tests and not just follow what the "genius" says, if it is not the logic board that is causing the probs...right? When I get my macbook will it say the work that was done on it?? Hopefully this will be fixed, because a random shutdown macbook is baisicly a useless macbook when you use it all the time in school.

I just downloaded an iphoto update and when I tried to share my photos was asked for email and password. I must have typed in the info wrong because I keep getting an error message. I don't see how to change the info to the correct mistake..
I too added 2nd apple ID when I tried to get Free app from apple store just to get to NONE on the credit card needed. It said it sent confirmation email to my new apple ID email that I have to confirm. Problem is I can not get to the new apple ID email account. On my ipad it logs into my original email account and I see no where to log into another email account. If I go to my laptop, the new apple ID I created does not let me log into email where apple said it was sent to. It did not send to back up email account either.
Can I log into 2 email accounts on my ipad where it says mail at bottom?
Can I have 2 apple ids?
If I created a 2nd apple id to get to NONE on credit card needed, can't I log into it also on another laptop in gmail?
(won't let me)
If I used my original apple id I created when I got my new ipad, it will not let me get free app without credit card, there is no where it says NONE needed. I am too new to apple to start with credit cards etc until I get use to it. -
my Ipad is not charging, it started after the battery died while i was playing a game, when i tried charging its only flashing the apple icon and it switches off again, help PLIIZ
Not charging
1. Reset iPad
2. Try another wall socket
3. Try another cable (make sure it's an original Apple cable)
4. Try another charger (make sure it's an original Apple charger)
5. Clean Lightning port with compress air or new paint brush -
Hi,
This issue might be similar to what has already been reported but it feels different.
I've attempted all solutions in this previous topic: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/7fb011ec-e986-4999-8cbf-21dba894432a/start-menu-button-and-search-not-working-in-windows-10-enterprise-technical-preview?forum=WinPreview2014General With
the exception of rolling back to a previous build (which was working). I'm on 10061.
I did registry editing, creating a new user, the powershell command (stumbled upon this just before finding the above link and it fixed that problem; the start menu/search box/Win+D bug was happening before the Metro Apps crash).
A temporary fix exists which requires me to tskill explorer every time I want to use the start menu, the search box or show my deaktop. Not really practical. That will let me use them for a few times but once I click repeateadly on the search box (it is
really slow), forget it. Not even the "show desktop" rectangle in the bottom right corner works (it doesn't in any other situation except the brief time were the other options are usable.
Every other single Windows Key keyboard shortcut works.
I hope enough information was provided but if anything else is needed, I'll do it.
You know, honestly I wish Microsoft would just either dump the Metro Windows UI or burn the Classic Windows UI because
still keeping the Control Panel divided and with no way interact with the Metro Apps outside of their environment is just stupid (or I'm not seeing the bigger picture).
Thanks,
Luiz.I have similar issues with build 10061, after I used System Restore. See also this topic: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/d1295cc3-e7c2-40be-a832-c1c648c669c2/system-restore-and-searchstart-menu?forum=WinPreview2014Feedback.
Things I have tried so far (but did not solve the problem for me):
- Install Windows Updates (Suggested by Sharath in
this topic)
- Powershell scripts (Suggested by Sharath in
this topic)
- Disabling NVIDIA graphics in Device Manager
- Enabling group policy settings
- Registry fix (http://www.arunze.in/2015/02/fix-windows-10-start-button.html)
- The windows-feedback:?contextid=158 command gives a 'The app didn't start' error.
- Start menu and Search still don't work in contrast mode (Shift+Alt+PrScn)
- Installing nVidia 347.88 drivers. -
On my ipod touch my songs start in random places and jump to different places as it plays, the remember position is not ticked can anyone please help?
First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely. Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again. -
Without touching the screen, 2 of my apps started shaking randomly. Not the kind of shaking when you want to delete/move the apps. It was odd. Any idea as to what that could be?
An "other" that large usually indicates that the "other" includes corrupted files. Usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.
To restore from backup see:
iOS: How to back up
To restore to factory settings/new iPod see:

Stopping and Starting a server - bootstrap pattern?
Hi,
I have a very simple server. It simply extends Thread, and provides a startup method to perform any initialization and to start itself. A shutdown methods performs any cleanup.
What I am trying to figure out is the best way to start/stop this server.
I have created a class that implements main and starts the server. What I am wondering is how to stop it again.
I noticed that with tomcat it has a bootstrap class, which implements main. It seem's overly complex for what I need, so I'm wondering is there a common pattern for creating a 'bootstrap' style class that when passed the argument 'start'; will start my server (but the bootstrap main will exit iself). Running the class again with 'stop' should then stop the server.
I know on unix I can write the PID to a file, then write a script to read that value and send a signal, but I'm not sure the seem implementation would work on windows, as it doesn't seem to provide signal handling. One thing worth mentioning if the launcher (+java Bootstrap start+) actually forks another JVM: on Unices at least, you have to consume the output streams (stdout/stderr) of the forked process, otherwise this latter may block.
See this famous article [When Runtime.exec() won't|http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-12-2000/jw-1229-traps.html] .
That's one good reason for the launcher to simply run the app (what does it bring to spawn another JVM?). -
Exchange 2010 DAG and NIC Teaming | Team broke and now cluster doesn't see the box
Hello everyone,
Question for the group. We are running an Exchange 2010 DAG cluster with four boxes with active/passive DB's on each of the four boxes. We run HP boxes for Exchange and the NIC's are teamed. Now mind you, I arrived at this company well after this environment
was set up so I have inherited everything here.
What has happened is one of the four boxes had an issue after an otherwise normal reboot. We could no longer ping it. Logged into the ILO and was able to log into the server, only to discover its team NIC was messed up and our only option was to rebuild
the team NIC. So I rebuilt the team and gave it the original IP/subnet/gateway it had. The server reboots and we can ping it.
However, when I look in the EMC at Database Management, all the passive copies that were on that DB are showing Failed. Ok, so I suspend the copy and attempt to reseed. No luck. I get the error "The NetworkManager has not yet been initialized"
and it references my machine which had the bad team NIC. Curious, I go look at my Failover Cluster Manager.
Looking at the fail over cluster manager, I notice a X on the cluster and I am showing my server which had the bad team NIC being listed as down. I attempted to start the cluster service for the machine, but it did not work.
Is there something I a missing? What are my exact steps to take to get my cluster configuration working correctly again and see my box? Do I need to remove the box from the DAG, evict it from the cluster, and rejoin it again? If so, can I do this without
affecting the other three machines so users don't notice any outage?
Thanks for any help you can give!Hi Kyle,
I am Chetan Savade from Symantec Technical Support Team & sorry to know the problem you faced because of SEP.
Symantec recommends that the Exchange server's OS always be protected by the latest available release of SEP. The Exchange server's message flow and Information Store must be protected by a dedicated mail security product, such as Symantec
Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange.
For cluster environment I would recommend to follow this article:
Installing the Symantec Endpoint Protection client to a Windows cluster server
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH91154
Installation best practices for Endpoint Protection on Windows servers

My iTunes will not start. The box on the error message APSDaemon.exe, And message says "This application failed to start because MSVC80.dll was not found. Reinstalling may fix." I did the reinstall and I get the same error. The error first happened after I approved the an iTurns update.
Same problem today. Took five times to reinstall without any error messages. Apple has posted a way to fix and you should follow their's first. I finally got to upldate correctly by doing their fix but with one difference. I did the following:
1) Went to the C:\program files (x86)\iTunes and C:\program files\iTunes folders and moved every file ending in .dll to the desktop (even if two files in same location had the same name, just replace)
2) Restarted computer and still got error message
3) Uninstalled all apple programs possible in the following order......itunes, apples software update, apple mobile device support, bonjour, and apple application support.....all performed using the microsoft control panel
4) put all the .dll files on the desktop in the trash and emptied (this is a step apple support did not specifically put in their fix but for a final try I wanted to delete everything apple).
5) Restarted computer.
6) Re-installed itunes from apple website
No error messages during re-install and was able to open shortcut in one try. Even updated my ipad to make sure everything was working. -
I recently started using an iPad. I up loaded several apps. Evernote, cloudon, Goodreader, Drop Box and lots of others.
It crashes when I down load pictures and then try to use them. Converting a jpg to a pdf usually triggers a crash.
Is there a "hitch" in my "giddy up?"
Help.

Are you using the "Print to PDF" dialogue to convert your jpegs to pdf?
In addition to OT's test, you might also check, if using a different "Theme" for printing will avoid the crash:
14 com.apple.AppKit 0x912a52e4 _NSDrawThemeBackground + 1429
15 com.apple.AppKit 0x9145edeb -[NSThemeFrame
You crashlog shows, that iPhoto crashes, when trying to draw the "Print" theme background. There could be a problem wit the installed themes. Can you convert any jpegs to pdf, not only the jpegs downloaded from your iPad?

I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 for Windows 7. I need to re-install it because my computer crashed. I saved the outer box, but I do not see a serial number and it is asking for it when I am trying to install the CD software. I went online, but the only serial number I see is when I registered the Photoshop Elements 2.0.
The serial number will be on the disc case, not the outer box. Find your serial number quickly

My MacBook Pro 10.6.8 prompted me of a new itunes update this morning, so i downloaded it. Since then itunes has been starting up randomly on its own, and starts playing the first song on the list. I pause the song, and it resumes it on its own again. I'm not joking. So, I end up quiting out of itunes; but, it starts right back up again on its own. After quiting out of the app a few times, it eventually stops reopening; however, about an hour later (or less) it opens again. HOW DO I MAKE IT STOP? I'm just about to delete itunes, because I've had enough of this crap. I hope someone can help. I've restarted the laptop, and it seemed like that fixed it, then itunes started up doing the same thing again an hour later. ituneshelper is unchecked; bluetooth is off; i only have speakers and a mouse plugged in (also charger).
Read this Apple Discussion Thread and possible solutions. The audio jack has been the main culprit, also certain sync and automation settings including connected remotes.
