I STILL cannot acccess ITUNES or SOFTWARE UPDATE functions

I have not been able to assess Itunes for many months - or the online software update function either. I noticed an Internet Explorer logo pops up every time I launch either function (software update or Itunes music store), then it shows the bar download at 1/3rd, where it stays until I get the timed-out message.
I went to update Explorer (in case that was the problem) and Microsoft says it stopped supporting Mac in 2005!
Is that the problem? Is Mac still using a Microsoft browser to access their updates and store, when Microsoft doesn't even support Mac anymore? I suspect so, or else why does the Explorer logo always show up?
I expect Apple is losing a lot of Itunes sales because of this. It appears I am not the only one having this ongoing problem.
Will upgrading my OS help, or will I get the same Explorer logo?

Apple does not use Internet Explorer for Software Update and never has. If IE is launching when you try to run Software Update, there's clearly something amiss with your system. It's not likely an iTunes error since the Mac OS X Software Update doesn't work either, so I'd suggest you repost your question in the Mac OS X 10.3 area. You'll be more likely to get useful suggestions there. The easiest fix may be to do an Archive and Install reinstallation of Mac OS X 10.3, but someone else may know of a quicker fix.
And yes, as you've discovered, Microsoft dropped support for the Mac version of IE two years ago, and Apple hasn't included IE with Macs for quite a while now.

  • Every time i try to open itunes to update apps for iphone 4s i can never get it to open, i went to command prompt and did the netsh winsock reset, still cannot open itunes

i cannot open itunes to update apps on my iphone. i did the command prompt-netsh winsock reset, still cannot open itunes.

Try following steps and test one at a time:
    1. Check to see if this file APSDaemon.exe is the problem here.
    Close your iTunes.
Press Ctrl-Alt-Del key and choose Task Manager. In the "Processes" Tab, select the file APSDaemon.exe and click End Prosses button, then close the task manager window.
Now open itunes and see if it is working?
If that works, to prevent having to do the same process everytime you restart Windows, go to. START button, type in
    MSCONFIG
    Hit ENTER
Click STARTUP Tab, Uncheck "Apple Push", click OK.
    Restart Windows.
    2. If that fails or you don't see ApsDaemon.exe in the Processes, refer to following article to remove SC files:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2363
    3. If that fails, repair or reinstall your Quicktime. START / CONTROL PANEL / ADD N REMOVE PROGRAMS / hightlight QUICKTIME, click CHANGE or UNINSTALL then REPAIR.

  • My problems started with an error 50 message when trying to download bought films. After un-installing and downloading iTunes, a number of times, I still cannot open iTunes on my PC and keep getting the message "you do not have permission to open"

I have removed all spyware, anti virus software and removed all iTunes programs - as suggested by Apple. I still cannot open iTunes on my PC because of the message "you do not have permission to open this file, folder"
I have changed and checked all permissions to allow this but still get the same message.
iTunes is located on my C drive and I now do not have the neccesary permissions to open it.

It has been some time since you posted this message and I see you haven't gotten any replies, but  I have the same issue and I was wondering if you figured out how to resolve it.  Hopefully you were able to figure it out.

  • ITunes 10 software update never appeared on my software updates list

I have two iMacs networked together, one 4 year old iMac running Tiger 10.5, and one 2009 iMac running SL 10.6.4. I downloaded iTunes 10 on the older machine several weeks ago after it appeared in the Software Update list. I have never seen the iTunes 10 software update appear on the software update list on my newer iMac which is running iTunes 9.2.1 (5) .
I have gone to iTunes and checked for Software update and it runs the scan for my software updates and the iTunes10 update is NOT there. When I google "iTunes10 Software Update", I get the Apple site with a download for iTunes 10, but no software update download.
What is going on... and is the iTunes 10 download the same as the software update ?
After reading all the complaints and problems here with v.10, I am inclined to forget the whole v.10 update and wait for the next one to see if some of these issues have been fixed. I could care less about Ping, and don't sync any iPods etc. with iTunes.
Thanks for any information, especially if someone can specify the difference between iTunes 10 download vs. iTunes 10 software update.

i have seen reports of this here on the forums. i would consider it a minor flaw of the software update app.
i wouldn't worry too much about it. if you want iTunes 10, get the standalone installer via the link i provided above.

cannot connect itune store after update ios 6

    Hello Dannard Lee,
It sounds like you aren't able to connect to the iTunes Store, or update your device to iOS 8. I would use the troubleshooting from the following article to help troubleshoot the issue, and it seems to be they may be related to one another:

  • I have been trying to update my software in my macbook pro, but every time I go through the motions of updating/restarting my computer nothing happens and it still shows I need a software update. Anyone know why this is happening?

I have been trying to update my software in my macbook pro, but every time I go through the motions of updating/restarting my computer nothing happens and it still shows I need a software update. Anyone know why this is happening?

How large is your HD and how much space do you have left?
Check out the following & do the necessary:
Disconnect all devices from the computer then do the following:
Boot up from your Snow Leopard Install DVD while holding down the "c" key.
Select the language you wish to use, and then choose "Disk Utility" from the menu bar.
Your HD should appear in a panel on the left hand side of the window which opens. Select it and then click on the "repair disk" button in the right hand section of the window.
Once this process has been completed restart your computer and repair permissions directly from Disk Utility.
    Try SU again.
If Disk Utility is unable to complete the repair, you will need to use a stronger 3rd party utility like DiskWarrior, Techtool PRO (not Deluxe) or Drive Genius.

iPhone 5c voice dial cannot be disabled after software update. Is there any way around this?

Hi! It seems you found a bug on iOS 7.1
To disable Voice dials try this, (I saw in an iPhone website here in Brazil):
    1. Turn on Siri (settings > General > Siri)
    2. go to  (Settings >Passcode > Voice Dial) trust me, it appears now
    3. disable Voice Dial
    4. go back and disable Siri

  • Client still trying to use obsolete Software Update server

I was experimenting with Mac OS X Server, including the Software Update Server and setting up managed client computers. After some testing, I decided that Mac OS X Server was too complex for our needs and switched the server back to standard Mac OS X. I also removed the server from the Directory Access settings on my client machine, and rebooted.
I thought this was enough to clean up my client machine, but it is still trying to access the Software Update Server on my test server. I can tell this by running softwareupdate from the command line:

I can't figure out where this setting is being stored so that I can erase it. I've already tried using the Restore Default feature of Software Update Enabler <http://www.wiretapped.net/~proton/suenabler/>, but that hasn't fixed the problem, even after resetting all three preference domains (Current User on This Computer, Current User on Any Computer, and All Users on This Computer) and restarting. I've searched through /Library/Preferences for the string "purr.local" and didn't get any hits.
Any clues as to where this setting is being stored, or how to erase it?

    PowerBook G4 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I think I just solved my own problem.
There are settings in /Library/Managed Preferences that aren't reset by Software Update Enabler. In particular, I had a file named "/Library/Managed Preferences/samalone/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist" that contained the obsolete server setting for Software Update. In my case, I don't want to have managed preferences anymore, so I just deleted the entire /Library/Managed Preferences folder and restarted.

  • Where can I manually download itunes and software updates

I am having problems downloading itunes and software updates. I understand that I need to do these manually but from where?
The problem as explained to me is that auto updates will not work and are showing as no connection available due to the latency with my satellite connection.
Apple auto updates are configured for US high speed internet and show no connection due to latency with sat connection.
Drives me crazy but have no other option available to me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Safari, iTunes and Software update can't connect, firefox can

    Hi all!
Since upgrading to Leopard I've been unable to get my macbook to connect using Safari, Software Update or iTunes. I get unknown error messages from iTunes and Software Update and a message that the server can't be found or times out from safari.
Strangely Firefox works perfectly and the other Macs on my network (some 10.4, some 10.5) are fine.
I have tried checking the proxy settings and creating an new user account but both times the problem persists.
The only thing I can think it could be is that someone configured proxy settings through firefox a while ago (pre 10.5) when they used it at their office. could that affect safari etc?
    All help gratefully received.
    Adam

Hi. Sorry this will not help, more of an observation. I posted a while back that I was having much the same problem at work when connecting through a proxy. Any Apple app that needs an internet connection did not work, ie Safari, Widgets, Software Update etc. But iChat works, as does Mail although not the RSS function. Firefox on the other hand works fine. I am absolutely certain my setting are correct and when I revert to using my 10.4.10 boot disk that all works fine. I think Apple has some how changed the way user info and password is sent when making a net connection through a proxy and now with 10.5 it does not work.
I also spoke with a mate yesterday he has just upgraded to 10.4.11 which means he now has Safari 3. He now is also experiencing the same problems I have with 10.5 and proxy connections.

Same question answered here : https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5762314?tstart=0
I just popped in with using Mavericks (I got rid of my MBP about a year ago, and just got another one when I got an Air for my wife) and noticed that Mavericks is not working and playing well with a couple of programs I already owned (Paraellels, for example...yes, I spelled it wrong...).  I looked for maginon.com and it didn't exist, nor was my google search directed to another location for them, so I postulate that the device may not be in production anymore, thus: no driver updates from the manufacturer.
From my mac-noob-layman's perspective: get some vmware, run windows and use the scanner in your virt machine to capture your images.  Put the images in your mac side and work your mac magic on them there.
    Peace
