I have the latest version of iTunes. When I plug my iPhone into the computer, it never comes up under the "Devices" tab in iTunes. How can I perform a restore/backup if it won't come up under "Devices" ?

As you didn't say what kind of computer, what operating system, or what version of iTunes it is very hard to give any meaningful advice. You might start with these:

Itunes freezes when i plug my iPhone or iPad. OS: Maverick
After successfully upgrading to OS X Maverick, itunes freezes everytime i plug my iPhone 5s or iPad mini. I have tried several ideas on the web but still no luck.

My Iphone is not seen on itunes when I plug it. I've tried everything that I found on the internet. but it still doesn't work, so I can't sync my iphone. What can I do? I have checked all the USB ports, I have desinstalled and installed again itunes, and I have run out of ideas.
When you plug it it, it should recognize it as an Apple IPHONE under devices. It will then bring the Camera/Connection wizard for the photos on the device. When you plug into different USB, it should bring the hardware wizard and tell you what its installing, what happens?
Under Device Manager, under Imaging Devices it will show up as Apple IPHONE. Is this being shown in your computer? -

I've noticed a pretty annoying lag in iTunes 7.7.1 that did not occur when I used 7.7.0. Whenever I plug my iPhone into my iMac there is about a 5 minute delay before my iPhone actually shows up under the devices tab and I get the spinning beachball. Once the phone appears, everything goes smooth until I want to sync. When I click sync or apply any changes to the device, there is another 5-10 minute delay and I again, get the beachball. I know it isn't my phone because it loads right up fine on my PC and also on my friends laptop. Is this a problem with 7.7.1?I'm having the same problem. I plug in my iPhone and it takes iTunes 5 minutes of spinning ball to begin syncing. During this time iTunes shows in the Activity Monitor as "not responding." iTunes works fine if iPhone is not plugged in, but freezes if phone is plugged in. iPhoto seems to work normally.
I've seen other threads in this forum where the 3G phone people say that iTunes 7.7.1 solved this problem for them. I have an original iPhone and it didn't solve it for me. All of this phone nuttiness started the day they released the new iPhone and software version 2.0.
I'm not too impressed with Apple's response either. This should have been fixed by now. -

I haven't used my ipad for over 6 months and when I plug it to charge (wall charger) it just doesn't charge anymore : any idea as to what the issue is and what I should do?If the battery has been drained completely dry it will take 20 minutes or more for it to indicate that it is actully charging!

my itunes isnt responding... all i get is the library page... cant do anything on the page, it wont recongnize my iphone neither, any suggestions how to fix?
First off try and go into your IPhone manually through My Computer and cut photos or anything you can through the device to be able to free space up so that you can continue to do what you want to do with ITunes. This way you will be able to create a backup or do what you have to do to manage your information, photos and texts on your device a little better.

I downloaded iOS 7 onto my iPhone 4 and updated the iTunes on my PC, WiFi connection works but somewhow it won't do anything when I plug the iPhone. Now, I got frustrated that neither iTunes nor my iPhone do anything. I need my iPhone to get it back to work regardless if it's back to the last version of iOS.
I just encountered this problem for the first time and stumbled upon this forum to find a solution. I played around with it a bit and it seems that if you slide your finger from the bottom up, you will come upon that new screen that will allow you to do various functions with your phone (put it in airport mode, lock, etc.), you can select your Airport from this screen and play your music wirelessly from your phone; at least this was my experience. When I plug my iPhone 4s into my PC, I get a message that says iTunes needs a newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support. It wants me to uninstall both the AMDS and iTunes and then reinstall iTunes. iTunes won't recognize my phone and so I can't synch it. Has anyone else run into this problem recently and how did you resolve it? Thanks!

I suppose I should have prefaced my question with the concern that I've read a number of other posts from people who have had a similar issue and when they tried to follow the directions, they ran into a multitude of other problems. I needed a phone, so my brother gave me his old Iphone 3g. I instantly downloaded the latest itunes (10.5.3) and I purchased some songs and application at itunes store. Unfortunately when I plug my iphone in it freezes itunes and I can't put anything on the phone. My iphone has absolutely nothing on the phone, no songs, apps, contacts, nothing.
I have tried for about a week now. Looking at forums on the internet and downloading alternatives to itunes like media monkey and foobar and alot of other programs to be able to put music on my phone.I spoke to my brother and he had no troubles at all with the phone.
I have no idea what to do. PLEASE HELP.

I have tried plugging the iphone in different ports. I heard you need to plug it into a 2.0 usb port, but I tried all of them. I don't know if my laptop has 2.0 usb ports because it still didn't work.
I tried reinstalling itunes the correct order multiple times but that didn't work.
I tried deleting the crash files that I didnt even have. I don't have the appdata file to delete its contents, if I do I couldn't find it.
I had to delete my virus software and disable it while I plugged my iphone in.I restarted my computer multiple times and restored my computer a few times and also deleted alot of useless files and movies to make my computer run faster.
As soon as I plug my iphone in, itunes instantly freezes. When unplugged itunes instantly unfreezes.
Also I have the original Iphone charger.

My Itunes freezes every time I try to plug in my ipod classic. It wont verify my ipod so it can't sync or update it. I have to shut down and restart my computer to get it to function at all. I have had my ipod for awhile and have had no problems with it and my Iphone connects and syncs just fine. My Itunes is up dated with the latest version and I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it. I have reset my ipod multiple times. I can't even restore my ipod because it freezes so fast I cant get the restore started. Someone PLEASE HELP!!
