I submit a keyword in the search bar and Firefox gives me a blank page.

When I type a keyword in the search bar on my Firefox start page, it sends me to a blank page instead of giving me search results.

Is that on the about:home page?
Try to reset the browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone pref via the right-click context menu to the default on the about:config page and close and restart Firefox to restore the about:home page to its default.<br />
Close and restart Firefox.

  • How do I change from AVG Secure Seach to Goggle as the default search enging bor the the search bar and when I open a new page?

When I load Firefox, the default search engine goes to AVG Search. I'd like to change it so that the default search engine on the search bar is Google. In addition, when I one a new page, the new page home page defaults to AVG Search. I'd like opening a new page to default to Google. My initial home page goes to the Wall Street Journal, which I want to keep, but want to change for the search bar and when a new page is opened to Google.

  • Lengthen and shorten the search bar and the URL bar

I like to be able to change the size of the search bar and the URL bar. I hate not seeing the whole URL as needed. And sometimes, I want to read everything I type in the search bar. This is a non-negotiable for me and I have stuck with the 3.+++ because Firefox removed this capability.
I read that the toolbar was now customizable (haha). But there's no way I can find to customize it to MY way. I can move the URL bar ABOVE the search bar, but I don't like it there. It would be satisfactory if I could move both the URL and the search to a separate line, but Firefox, in its wisdom, has decided I'm not permitted to do that easily, if at all.
For me, a good browser works the way I like it to work. I'm never happy when features I use are discarded. It's fine when new ones are added on, but when an update feels like a downgrade to me, I return to the old program. (E.g., I still use XP) If I cannot make this work, I'll have to go back to an old edition that lets me work my way.
    I'm anti Procrustean bed.

Thanks Ahnasr but that didn't work in the newer FireFoxes, although it had previously. That's why I posted the question.
However, I had planned to delete the question on here (couldn't find it!) when I discovered I was able to open a new toolbar and place the URL line below the buttons. Then, joyfully, I was able to also move the searchbar to the same line. And, I was thrilled to find that at that point, I was again able to resize both toolbars (although it was less necessary because of the space).
That solved, I am now trying Aurora and so far, so good. I'm amazed at how such a simple thing can be a stopper for me.
Now, if I could figure out how to prevent TABS altogether, I'd be really happy (I keep my WToolbar to the right and open all in new windows).
    Thanks for helping!

  • Why does using Google in the search bar (and only Google) not let me open search results in the same tab?

    Hello,
When I use Google in the search bar, I have to open the search results in a new tab. If I simply click on them to open in the current tab, I'm inevitably redirected right back to the main Google site. This has only started happening in the past month or two -- I'm considering switching to Chrome after 5 years with Firefox because of this. Please help! It's incredibly frustrating to consistently have to remind myself to open all search results in a new tab. It's quite a waste of time over the course of a day.
    Here are the basic steps:
    1) I do a search using Google in the search bar.
    2) As is supposed to happen, the search returns results in the current tab.
    3) When I click on a result link, I'm immediately sent back to www.google.com.
    4) If I hit back to try to return to the search results, I'm taken to the page that was loaded BEFORE I even did the search.
    5) If, and only if, I instead right-click or Mouse3 click on the search results and open them in a new tab, I can successfully go to the search result pages.
    --Thank you

I know I have found this solution before, but can't find it again. Please help?

  • I used to write e.g. "onet" in the address bar and firefox opened page "onet.pl". After reinstalling Windows it only moves me to Google. How can I change it?

    Thank you in advance!

Firefox's address bar ("location bar") has an "autofill" feature based on your history. Once you've visited onet.pl the next time you type onet Firefox should suggest that location by pre-filling it in on the address bar. Is that not working? Does it work for .com sites or not for any sites?
Or if you meant more generally that you want to type a word and have .pl added to the end, then you can change what Firefox does with address bar entries by disabling the search feature. Then Firefox will use a "fixup" procedure instead. This change needs to be made in about:config. Here's how:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''keyw''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the '''keyword.enabled''' preference to switch it from true to false
    (4) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''fix''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (5) If the '''browser.fixup.alternate.suffix''' preference isn't .pl you can double-click to edit it

  • The back, forward, reload and stop buttons are greyed out, the address bar stays blank when I go to a website and firefox loads to a blank page, not my home page. There are 3 users on this computer and it only happens on one user.

Firefox loads to a blank page, not my home page. When I click on the home button it takes me to the home page. The back, forward, refresh and stop buttons are greyed out and not usable. The webpage I am on does not show up in the address bar. If I type something into the address bar, that address stays there no matter what page I go to next.

Just upgraded to v4. It did NOT fix the problem.

  • Since upgrade 5 everytime the search bar and fox logo are on the right and not central

This has only come about since my upgrade to 5 the logo and search bar are on the right and not central. The only way to get a normal screen is to click bottom right. This is anoying

What do I do to get back my normal screen.

  • I'm trying to type a website on the search bar and it won't let me type anything. It keeps clearing after I type a letter! Please Help!

I'm trying to type a website on the search engine but it won't let me type the website. Like, when I type a letter it'll automatically clear it unless I hold the letter down. How do I fix this?

    Firefox > Alt+H+T > Show Folder > close Firefox > Delete '''user.js''' file > rerun FF

  • When I go to a webpage it isn't registering in the address bar and firefox won't let me go back.

Another odd thing that has happened, Bing took over my blank page and had a searchbar on it, but that has suddenly disappeared, I'm not sad at all, but am wondering if it is connected.

  • When typing in the Find Bar, sometimes the caret goes away without clicking or moving the mouse. This also happens when backspacing in the Find Bar, and results in going back one page in the browser. How can this be remedied?

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • I enter a website address in the address bar and firefox will not go to the website

What needs to be done to correct this problem?

    Hi,
Please check if this happens in [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe%20Mode Safe Mode]. Safe mode disables the installed '''Extensions''', and themes ('''Appearance''') in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Add-ons'''. Hardware acceleration is also temporarily disabled - the manual setting is '''Tools''' > '''Options''' > '''Advanced''' > '''General''' > [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Options%20window%20-%20Advanced%20panel?as=u '''Use hardware acceleration when available''']. All these settings/options/add-ons can also be individually or collectively disabled/enabled/changed in Firefox normal mode to check if an extension, theme, option or hardware acceleration is causing issues. Disabling/enabling hardware acceleration, and some types of add-ons in normal mode may require a Firefox restart.

  • Why do google search results reset to match the search bar terms when i use the back button?

Since the update to FF 23, the list of Google search results clears and the on-page search box is reset to match the address bar search box when I hit the back button to re-view the results list after checking a result.
To see this issue for yourself, set your search provider to Google and make sure Instant is on. Type a search term into the search bar and press enter. A google page appears with your results list. Now, change your search terms or conduct a new search directly from the google page (without using the FF search bar). Click on the first result in the search list, then click the back button to return to the search results so you can check a differest result. As FF goes back to the google page, it will reset the on-page search box to match the FF search bar (although you were no longer on this search) and all search results will disappear, replaced by the message "Press enter to search". Pressing enter reconducts your old search, not the one you were on.
This is incredibly maddening since searching for something requires frequent use of the back button to check through the list of search results, and then frequently trying the search again with slightly different terms. Although it sounds like a Google issue, it did not occur on the old firefox and has me wanting to revert. I tried to revert to the old search function via the "keyword search" addon, but this did not fix my issue. Is there a way to force FF to go back to the actual google search page I was just on instead of conducting a new google search from the FF search box when I hit the back button?

In Firefox 23 versions and later the keyword.URL pref is no longer supported and it is no longer possible to specify the search engine for the location bar via the keyword.URL pref.<br />
The search engine that is used on the location bar and on the about:home page is the search engine that is selected in the search Bar on the Navigation Toolbar.<br />
Current Firefox versions do not update the about:home home page until you refresh the page (future versions will do this automatically without a refresh) and that is what happens if you use the Back key.
You can install the Keyword Search extension to specify with search engine to use for the location bar and which search engine to use for the about:home page via the Options/Preferences windows of this extension, accessible via the about:addons page.
