I suddenly have blue and black vertical lines on my screen. This computer is only 3 months old. What can I do?

Starting a few weeks ago I got a cluster of blue and black lines at the bottom righthand corner of my screen. It was frustrating and annoying but I ignored it. Now there is another one closer to the top lefthand side. It's very frustrating as this computer is only 3 months old!! please help!

Take a picture if the problem just in case the aberration does not show in the presence of the technicians.
Ciao.

What model iMac? Could be a failing video card but maybe not. Is it that way on every screen, startup to shutdown, any time the screen is lit?
Do you have an AASP nearby? Time to have an estimate made. Fixing it will likely be very expensive.

  • Blue and Black Vertical Lines on Startup then freeze 10.7.3

I have a 2007 MacBookPro.  shortly after installing Lion 10.7.3  and VectorWorks 2011 I started getting vertical blue and black lines across my screen on startup.  They remain with in the apple while the computer boots and the everything freezes.  I tried all of the usual fixes, recovery, safe boot, reset PRAM, battery, etc.  Nothing helps.  When I tried to boot of a system disc I get a message sating that I need to restart my computer.  Upon restart same problem occurs.  2 months ago I took the whole thing apart and cleaned out the guts.  Reconnecting all cables back together, I came across, what I think is the camera cable.  Since my camera has been erratic, i decided to test the problem with it connected and then disconnected.  Connected same problem.  Once i unplugged the camera everything went back to normal, until now.  The same problem returned.  I cleaned out the guts again.  This time I unplugged the hard drive to try and boot off the C drive, but still get the same problem.  This morning It decided to boot up.  I was able to copy my essential files onto an external drive.  Any one have any suggestions on repairs or what the problem may be?  Hardware, Software? Should I do an erase and install if I can get it to boot off the C drive?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Ogelthrorpe.
Once I was able to boot off the C drive and performed a hardware test of the systems disc only to find nothing wrong???????????????  Since It booted this morning, I am working on it as we speak, everything seems normal except I had to adjust the time and date.  Oh, I got a error message upon boot. I don't understand the code in it, but it seemed like the kernel was confused.  I am afraid to shut it off and not be able to reboot again.
Unfortunately, no apple store where I now reside!!!!
    Thanx

  • White and black vertical lines

I Have the iPhone 5. It has been in a case since the day I bought it. It is 2 months out of warranty and I got white and black vertical lines while I was laying in bed. My friend tried checking my screen and replaced it with a working screen and it did the same thing so it wasn't the screen. Took my phone to Apple they said it's the screen and I have to pay $130 to fix it even with it out of warranty..... Lady standing next to me had the same problem they plugged it in fixed it and she was on her way with it. What is wrong with my phone? What should I do?

and one more thing, itunes cannot read my device i did that for 20-30 sec but it won't turn on

  • Blue and Green horizontal lines on my screen

I have the 2008 version of the MacBook Pro with the 15 inch screen. While using it last night I suddenly started seeing blue and green horizontal pixelated lines going across my screen. The first time it did it, I rebooted my laptop and it was fine for a while but then they came back. This morning when I turned it on, the lines were still there. I have no sort of warranty on this computer anymore. This is actually a computer I recieved from school back in 2008. Is this a sign my screen is going out?

    Hello tattooedbeauty,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your MacBook Pro display.  I would be concerned as well if I were seeing blue and green horizontal lines.
I found an article with steps to troubleshoot issues with displays.  This article is for internal and external displays, so you can skip any steps referring to an external display.  I recommend reviewing the full article, but this step specifically stands out to me:
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
You can find the full article here:

  • Cant enter LCD Bist. Have Loads of Changing vertical lines on lcd screen.

I have classical problem on Pavilion DV6 laptop with LDC-problems. Screen is full of vertical lines changing with each frame.
Different forums advice to try  a BIST TEST. but cant enter. Not by starting while holding "fn" or "D". What to do?

    BangL,
Try updating your graphics driver and BIOS version. Here are the drivers for your computer, install the graphics driver first then once that has completed do the BIOS.  When you update the BIOS please have the AC adapter plugged in throughout the process.
When you do the BIOS install, do version F.21 dated 09-27-2011. Once that is done see if the lines still show.
Please respond back at your earliest convenience.
    Thanks

  • I have downloaded books on ibooks on my sons iMac now I have my own iMac and we share an iCloud. I want to open the books in my computer on my ibooks and it says that this computer is not authorized. What can I do to authorize my computer to open the book

I need help because I recently purchased my Macbook Pro and I am trying to open a book that I purchased in Ibooks on my sons computer. We share an icloud account and my computer keeps saying that my computer is not authorized to open the Ibooks. How do I authorize my computer to be able to do that?

did you use your sons Apple ID..?  If so... those items are tied to that Apple ID.
If your issue is with the Authorization of your New Mac...
    On your Computer... Open iTunes...
If you're using iTunes 11 click on the box icon in the top-left corner to see the " Show Menu Bar "
and from the Menu Bar select Store...
From the Store menu, choose Authorize This Computer.
When prompted, enter your Apple ID and password, then click Authorize.
    See Here for full details...

  • My MBP keeps freezing with red and black vertical lines. What's going on?

About once a week my early 2011 i7 macbook pro seems to freeze with these weird lines on screen.  I was using Adobe Photoshop CS6 and had quicktime playing an mp3 in the background.  Nothing out of the ordinary happened that I know of that could have triggered the computer locking up.
I took my MBP to the Apple store and they said it passed all diagnostic tests.  They suggested that since it is sporatically happening, it may be weeks before an answer is given to the problem that I am experiencing.  Here are some pictures I took when my mac last froze.

Were you ever able to resolve this?  My friend's early 2011 MacBook Pro with your same specs except with 10.6.8 just did the same thing while Google Earth 7.1.2.2019 was running.  Never any other issues, just happened out of the blue.

  • My iPhone 4s fell down and the LCD turned blue and black stripes line, is it still covered by the warranty?

My iPhone 4s fell down and the LCD turned black and blue stripes and the warranty is still active.
My question is, is it still covered by the Apple? How to fix it without changing the LCD?

Accidental or wilful damage is not covered by Apple's standard or extended warranty. AppleCare + does cover this kind of damage for a small fee.
When taking the phone to Apple for repair Apple will not replace the faulty part. They replace the whole phone. However some stores may offer screen replacements.

  • 20" iMac screen is gray with blue and gray vertical lines after restart

Hey, I have a 20" Intel iMac that I purchased about 2 years ago. I have had no problems with it at all until yesterday afternoon. I had just woken it from sleep (no problems at all with the screen), used it for 5 minutes to check email and then left for 10 minutes only to come back to this on the screen:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/47548003@N03/4357722284/
I have tried restarting with the same result each time. The computer starts up with a gray screen that fades around the edges to the picture shown above. I am still able to use the computer with an external monitor, so obviously just the screen seems to be affected. Any ideas about what could be wrong?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
It looks like the graphics card may be failing. If you are covered by AppleCare contact Apple immediately, if you are not I would recommend bringing it into an Apple Authorized Service Provider to be checked out.
Sorry for being the bearer of bad news.

  • My iPhone 4s won't pair with my PC, and iCloud hasn't completed a successful backup in over a month! What can I do?

Hi guys, I would really appreciate some help with this. I've been to my local Apple Store's Genius bar twice and they have told me that they will replace the iPhone with a brand new 4s, however there is nothing they can do to help me get my important data off my phone (and until I do I can't give them this phone).
I normally would be able to just use iCloud backup to get my photos, videos and dozens of important audio memos synced off my phone, however (after connecting to a wifi but not paired) my iPhone's iCloud app waits about an hour saying "Backing up... Estimating time remaining..." then keeps spitting out "iCloud Backup failed. Please try again later".
The other reason this is so frustrating is that my battery will ONLY charge when the phone is turned completely off - meaning, I only get to use my phone for about 1/2 the day before I need to turn my phone off to let it recharge. Plus the battery seems to drain more quickly than it used to.  Anyways, it's a bit of a first-world nightmare, accept that the audio memos I want to get off are so large (<100MB) and I have so many of them that I can't get them off fast enough using Google Drive or Dropbox...the wifi connection speed gets me about one or two every other day.
Any suggestions you might have will be really really appreciated...the fine folks at the Genius bar haven't been able to help, and Lord Google has been no help either.  Please help me get my data off my iPhone - thank you!!
P.S. Also, I think it's a very odd coincidence that when I started using Evernote to record my audio memos (and have them synced off immediately), Evernote stopped syncing after about a dozen successful synced notes and now no longer syncs at all....sidenote: I'm scared to uninstall and reinstall the app for fear of losing the unsynced audio memos.

If you don't have Applecare you can usually get a refurbished unit from an Apple Retail Store cut price - though they may not have any 3 models in stock and you may be 'forced' to upgrade to a 3GS.

  • My iPhone 4S is hot when charging and has now developed a yellow mark on top left hand corner of screen, it's 1.5 years old, what can I do? I am concerned that it is going to get worse :-(

    Help with yellow spot?

Take it to Apple so they can examine it. They will tell you your options.

  • Blue and gray/black vertical lines on start up screen.

At start up my 2008 MacBookPro brings up a blue and black/gray vertical lines covering the entire screen. It has a large image of the power button and tells me "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button". We've tried that. It restarts, makes the start up noise and gives the same prompt with the same blue and gray vertical lines in the background. Any idease on what our problem is?

MacBook Pro (Early 2008): Dark bands showing intermittently on built-in display
MacBook Pro: Distorted video or no video issues .  The affected computers  were manufactured between approximately May 2007 and September 2008.
