I switched to a new computer...

After switching to a new computer, I was successful in moving my music library to the new computer, but after I purchased some music I could no longer access my music.  It is giving me an error message that it cannot locate the original file.  Also, apple sent me a message informing me that music had been purchased from a different machine using my account number (which of course, I already knew.)  Any ideas how to successfully make the transition to a new computer without problems?

Do you use automatic downloads?

  • PSE 6 switching to a new computer - any way to import albums and tag/label heirarchies?

I've just switched to a new computer and have copied and imported all my photos over to it. When I imported the photos using PSE6, I lost all the heirarchies of tags/labels (e.g., people not in the people category, ditto for places, animals, etc.). Also, I've lost all my albums. Is there a way to export/import this information from my old computer before it goes to the recycling bin?
    TIA for any help.
    Mary

    > My original attempt to move files included using the Folder Location tree and moving the main photo directory from one drive to another. That copied all the files over, but resulted in all the photos showing up as missing in the catalog.
That is not good moving within Folder Location view should not produce missing files. This suggests you may have encountered one of the PSE bugs in handling hard drives.
I recommend letting this first attempt at doing a restore complete and then thoroughly testing it. Do File > Reconnect > All Missing to see if there are any missing files. Try viewing a number of your files in the Organizers full screen. And try importing a few dummy photos from the old drive to make sure you can have photos stored on both the old and new drives.
    > it appears that all the files are going in without any subdirectories
There are options you can set in the File > Restore Catalog command that control how folders are restored. See this Adobe tech note:
    http://www.adobe.com/go/kb402894
Assuming that your test above works ok, then you can redo the restore using the desired options.

  • I upgraded my iMac and need to switch license to new computer without access to old computer?

I recently upgraded my iMac and had Photoshop CS6 migrated to my new computer. I'm unable to use photoshop now since I wasn't able to uninstall the software on the old computer. How can I switch my license from one computer to the next without access to the old computer or the access code?

If you bought it from Adobe, your serial number should be under the Adobe ID you used to buy it. Even if you did not get it from Adobe, if it was registered with Adobe, the serial number would be under "My Products" including the serial number of the product you upgraded from.
You can download the CS6 installer from here: Download CS6 products

  • Switching itunes to new computer without losing the title editing

Im curious if anyone knows a way to switch Itunes songs to a new computer without having a USB port. My old computer i have broken all of them (the reason I got a new computer) and im not sure how to switch my music to the new itunes on the new computer without having to re-edit ALL of my songs. I download all of my music not through I tunes and keep the music in its own folder. Then I just add it to itunes. The issue is I have to edit each song in itunes so the title is correct and only has the song title and not the artist or other stuff in the title. Im worried that if I download Itunes on the new computer and it automatically syncs all my music that ill have to go back and re-edit ALL of the songs. Which took hours to do the first time. I have all my music on the new computer- did it via file sharing across the network. Anyone have any idea on how to do this? I wish I could just hook the ipod up and have them transfer in to itunes so the editing stays.

If you can still access the old computer across your network, you should copy the iTunes database (the iTunes Library.itl file) from old to new.  The metadata that you see in iTunes is a combination of information held within that database and the properties/tags embedded within your media files.  iTunes actually works much better with respect to creating/maintaining backups and transferring your library between computers if you configure it to copy music, etc. into the iTunes Media folder and to organize the files & subfolders within it, so that the library (by default in Windows Vista/7/8 C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes) has this structure:
I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "The issue is I have to edit each song in itunes so the title is correct and only has the song title and not the artist or other stuff in the title."  Almost all (legitimate) sources - importing from your own CDs, purchases from the iTunes Store, Amazon, etc. - will always have separate metadata elements for Artist, Song Name, Album and Track No. (and in many cases will also have Album Artist, Disc No., Disc Count, and Track Count.  There are cases where changes you make after importing to iTunes may be overridden for iTunes Store purchases and/or if you subscribe to iTunes Match - this behavior can be disabled by ensuring that these options in Edit > Preferences > Advanced are not selected:
If you change these you will need to restart iTunes for the changes to take effect.

  • Switched to a new computer - now iTunes won't open

    Hi everyone,
I did a search and couldn't find relevant/helpful information, so I'm sorry if this has been discussed before.
I recently purchased a new laptop that came with iTunes 6.0. My old laptop had iTunes 4.7 on it. I ran a program called PC Relocator to transfer all my files/programs/settings, and instead of choosing manual selection, I let it transfer anything and everything it "thought" needed to be transferred.
Now, iTunes will not open on my new computer. Whenever I try to open it, I get the "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" message. I have tried uninstalling it, reinstalling it, following all troubleshoot tips both on the website as well as in these forums, deleting all installation programs, all registry information - I even tried reinstalling it with the Recovery CD included in my new laptop, all to no avail.
I would sincerely appreciate any advice or suggestions anyone might have. Thank you all so much!

    hi Antony!

hmmm. is itunes currently still installed and giving you that message? if so, let's just check explicitly on the status of your quicktime. is that currently able to launch? if so, what version does it claim to be in your "about" screen?

  • Switching account to new computer can't access old account w/changed email

I'm trying to access my itunes account on a rarely used pc that was used for my ipod and authorize my account on a new computer. My itunes account had my old email address and I forgot the password, so when I try to access the account and answer the security questions to send a new password, it ends up offering to send it to my old email address which is no longer valid....how can I access the account to change my email, and de-authorize my old computer and get my music etc. synched with my new one?....maybe I can just set up a new account on the new computer and dump my music from my ipod to it?

To remove the iCloud account you need to delete it.
Settings > iCloud > scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Acccount

  • I am switching to a new computer.  Itunes doesn't detect my ipod

I am swithching to a new computer and iTunes doesn't detect my iPod.  I have loaded iTunes on the computer along with all my music and play lists.  When I connect my Pod to the system, the computer recognizes it but iTunes doesn't.

OK,  I was able to get iTunes o recognize my iPod touch using the following procedures:

But, I can't sync the iPod to iTunes on the new computer.

  • How to switch contacts to new computer?

I put all my contacts onto my iphone and music with my old computer. I got a new computer and was wondering how i get my contacts off of my iPhone onto my new computer. Please help
    jason

Although it is bidirectional, the sync is directed from newer version to older version, not a merge. If iTunes sees the empty contacts list on your new computer as "newer", then it will clear out the contacts on the iPhone.
With some sync programs, you can set the directionality of the initial sync. With iTunes, you can set a directional sync from computer to iPhone, but not vice versa. So there is no way to guarantee that the stuff on the iPhone will be sent to the computer during that first sync.
I stand by my recommendation. Do not use the iPhone as a conduit to sync up an old computer and a new computer. For Mac users, using .Mac is a much better way if you passed up the opportunity to transfer your info during the initial computer setup.

  • Having trouble switching to a new computer.

I recently bought a new computer - OS Windows 7. My old comp is an XP. I have a 3rd Gen 64gb iPod Touch which I started using on the old XP, no troubles. I wanted to move everything to the 7 because it has a larger hard drive 500gb compared to the tiny 30gb on the xp which is 5 years old. So I downloaded iTunes on the 7 and authorized it but when I plugged in my iPod it kept saying that it was only an 8gb. I have iTunes set to not automatically sync, although my apps and music stopped working when I unplugged it and I had to restore using the old XP (I lost my saved status on some of my games and had to play the levels again ). can anyone help?

Thanks for the suggestion. I have moved all of my media onto my new computer! However every time I connected my ipod to the computer with itunes open it said "unable to sync. a required file is missing."
Now my music is still on my ipod but it will only play one song and then go back to the home screen.
I talked to tech support today who suggested uninstalling itunes completely and reinstalling. I did that and still the issue persists. "unable to sync, a required file is missing." Has anyone ever encountered this before? (I'm going to be traveling from AK to OH soon which is about a 24 hour trip, and it would be wonderful if this could be resolved before then.)

  • What is the best approach to sync an iPhone when I've switched to a new computer?

Hi everybody. The problem is the old issue related to the fact that I can sync my iPhone with only one iTunes library, even if I sync my device manually.
So, I've moved to a new laptop and need to sync the iPhone with this new device. The iPhone was previosly sync with the old computer.
I've connected the iPhone and transferred any itunes purchase to the itunes library, so I assume that my songs, books, movies, apps have been passed to the itunes library.
But now I need to manage the sync process as the itunes warns me that it will erase any content in the iphone. So, what about my photos, contacts, sms, etc? They will be erased...
So, what is the correct process to manage this situation?
    Thanks.

Thanks wjosten, you guide is nice and clear. What seems to me strange are your point below:
    7. Right click again and select "Backup".
    8. Right click again & select "Restore from Backup", select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
At point #7 I backup the actual conent of the phone (I assume sms, contacts, ring tones, photos, videos, etc.) and I thought I had to manage a restore at the end of the sync. On the contrary you say to restore it just after the backup. Any reason for that?
More, my iPhone is actually setup to do backup to iCloud:
Do I need to switch to local backup otpion instead?
    Thanks.

  • Switched HD to new computer now ethernet won't work [SOLVED]

Had an old Dell desktop in which the motherboard failed (capacitors leaked), but was able to move the HD into another Dell with a similar architecture (Dell Optiplex GX270 ->Dell Dimension 8400).  Everything seems to work fine except the wired internet.
When I boot up ip link shows the eth0 as "DOWN". Performing a
    ip link set eth0 up
seems to correct this except when I run
    dhcpcd
(or dhclient) "DISCOVER" packets are sent out with no response (dhcpcd keeps sending out discover packets until it times out).
    lsmod
shows that the correct module is loaded. Which is tg3 according to lspci -v which states the model as a
    Broadcom NetXtreme BCM5751 PCIExpress
I've played around with the configurations in dhcpcd.conf, with unplugging and re-pluging the ethernet cable, unloading and reloading the kernel module, and any other possibly related suggestions I could find in the forums (which I've speant a few days search through).
    Any advice?
EDIT: Since I've had this problem I've disabled the [email protected] from systemctl (which was how I origionally was autoconnecting in the old computer) and have just been trying to connect manually.
SOLUTION: needed to register the new MAC address with the IT administrators of the network in order to be whitelisted.

  • Serial Number is "not valid" after switching to a new computer

I just upgraded from an old white Intel iMac to a new 27" iMac, and after I moved all my files over with the Migration Assistant, my Final Cut Studio doesn't work. It asks me for a serial number, I put in the one I've been using forever, and it says it's not valid.
Any idea what's going on? I'm working with the new version of Studio, if it matters, and it's going it when I try to open any of the programs included in the suite.

    1. Never EVER migrate pro apps.
    2. see #1.
    3. see #2.
Time for an erase of the software (look up Digital Rebellions FCS remover) and do a clean installation of the FCS suite. If that doesn't work, do a complete erase of the system hard drive and install everything from scratch.
