I synced Address Book with Yahoo Contacts BUT....

My iPad Address Book and Yahoo Contacts are sorta synced, but how can I make my Apple Address Book look more like my Yahoo Contacts? Address Book displays the contacts by first names and there are LOTs of "no names" even though I deleted the duplicates in Yahoo.

If you have contacts in both and you have the iphone/itunes set to sync with your Yahoo Address book, then the two sets should be merged.

  • Sync Address Book with Yahoo Address book?

    Hi there,
just wondering if its possible to some how sync Address Book with Yahoo Address book?
That is... I have an elaborate Address Book setup on Yahoo, I'd like it so that if I use Yahoo Address Book and create/delete contacts that when I get home and use Address Book, Address Book syncs the contacts structure to the yahoo structure, without me manually intervening...
Is this possible or is there a tool/widget that does this already?
    Thanks

while looking for somehting else, i found something here in the discussions that might do the trick. it involves another web-based address book, but might work for you. try getting the plaxo address book plug-in, and then sync your yahoo contacts with plaxo, and then sync that with address book. i'm not sure of the order that would give you the best results, but i'm working on using plaxo as an online backup of my address book, as i will most-likely not be using plaxo otherwise.
my concern for you would be whether one would write over the other, so back up your address book first, or even export the entire thing as a vcard file to your desktop, and then you can re-import and merge them... that way you can sync with your yahoo account, and then add whatever is already in your address book and merge whatever is necessary.
search here in the discussions for the plaxo plug-in, and see if that sounds like it would work for you. the only issue i have right now is that it seems that the plaxo install has somehow affected my icalfix plug-in, but i'll look into fixing that this weekend, i'm sure i just need to move some plug-ins around.

  • Sync Address Book with Google Contacts

    Hi,
recently I am syncing the Mac Address Book and my iPhone with Google Contacts.
If I add a birthday to one of my contacts on my iPhone, the birthday also will be added on Google Contacts. If I sync my Mac Address Book with Google Contacts now, the birthday doesn't show up on my Mac Address Book.
So my birthday calendar in iCal always is empty...
    Any solutions?
    Regards and thanks,
    Mike

    Hi,
Google uses Google Sync to synchronize your contacts with your iOS and OS X. But this, from Jan 30, 2013, is only available to the paid versions of Google Apps (read more on http://support.google.com/a/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2716936).
You can continue to sync on both iOS and OS X using the CardDAV protocol, which, IMHO, is even better.
Follow the instructions in this post: http://support.google.com/mail/answer/2753077?hl=en
Mountain Lion Contacts also supports CardDAV accounts. All you need to do is add the CardDAV account with your account credentials and it will synchronize again.
    Hope this helps.

  • Sync address book with Yahoo

OK, I've turned on the option in address book to sync with Yahoo. I do have a Yahoo mail plus account (since I subscribe to AT&T Yahoo DSL), but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. I don't subscribe to .Mac. Am I doing something wrong, or does it only work via .Mac?

That worked for me too - to sum up, the highly intuitive way to sync your Address Book with the Yahoo Address Book is:
    * to go to preferences in Address Book and add your Yahoo name and password (a normal Yahoo account will do - you don't need a paid one);
    * go to the iSync application and go into the preferences there and activate "show status in menu bar";
    * use the Sync Now option in that menu bar item;
    * wait a bit for any conflict resolution (which seems to work well).
It doesn't seem to delete stuff off the Yahoo Address book though.

  • Synching Address Book with Google Contacts

I currently use Google Sync to keep Google Contacts and Google Calendar synched to my iPhone and it works perfectly. I want to also sync Google Contacts to my Apple Address book, and while I know where to configure this, I have a question before I turn it on.
In Address Book preferences if I check the box to sync Address Book with Google contacts is this going to wipe out my Google Contacts? Or will there be an opportunity to select which way I want the sync to occur? I want my Address Book to be the target in all cases and my Google Contacts to be the default master. I do not use Apple Mail, iCal, or Address Book on my Mac...I use Google Apps for everything, but I would like to keep my Mac Address Book as a carbon copy of my Google Contacts.
Thanks for any help before I start this sync.

I have had a similar problem. I can't find "contacts cleaner" in versiontracker. Is this an iphone app?

  • MacBook Pro 17" iTunes can't sync address book with iPad Air

Can't sync between MacBook Pro 10.6 OS ver and new iPad Air (bought 2 days ago) cell 32gig.  Have been to Apple shop at Garden City WA, helpful but seems very little knowledge of 10.6 OS.  Have attempted upgrade on MacBook to Lion OS, persevered and seemed to work.  Except now the MacBook won't boot, even choosing drive unit, just spins the icon.  Even left it for a few hours just in case it needed time to sort itself out.
Back to Apple shop first thing in the morning, getting MacBook up and running is first priority followed by syncing address book with iPad.  If can't sync guess I'll have to return it as having them communicate is why I brought the iPad, something lighter in my brief case instead of carrying the MacBook around.
It became tiring being told the MacBook was old technology, having spent money with Apple upgrading the MacBook drive & memory to cope with Final Cut and Creative suite.
    Any advice most welcome!

Figured it out and it wasn't fun. I watched the console messages as I deleted groups and tried to sync with Mobile Me until no error msg was displayed. Then I restored AB from a back up and proceeded to delete contacts one at a time and check for errors until none were displayed. After deleting about half my contacts under the one group I finally found the one contact. I then did another AB restore, deleted the troubled contact, sync'd fine, then did another backup. I have no idea why that one contact was the problem as everything looked fine. Console msgs only showed a silly number as the contact, not the name, which is why I had to go through all this. But...it's fixed.

  • How to sync Address book with iphone(iOS 6) and 10.7.4?

How to sync Address book with iphone(iOS 6) and 10.7.4

i'm having this issue too.  it's a bit more complex though i think so i'll give the details:
a few days ago i added some people to my contacts using my phone. the thing they have in common is they're all new contacts.
they synced over to my macbook address book ok.
then a few days later i had to do a full restore of my iphone for various reasons (the new one, already!) which i did. when i then looked in my iphone contacts, these contacts were no longer there. they WERE however, still in my macbook address book.
so i figured i'd switch icloud syncing off for contacts and then resync to get them back on my phone. it didn't work. so i then turned off icloud sync and tried a good old manual sync via itunes, making sure to check the box for syncing contacts.  it still didn't work.
now i'm at that odd place where the contacts are in my macbook address book but not in my phone and i can't seem to get them onto my phone (which is frustrating as ultimately they are phone numbers and in my phone is the best place for them!)
    any ideas?

  • How to sync Address book with iphone on 10.5, while iphone synced with iCloud?

My mac runs leopard 10.5.8. Meanwhile iPhone is updated to 5.1. and synced with iCloud. As we know, OS X 10.5 can not be synced with iCloud. How to sync Address book with iphone? My Address Book on my mac has almost all contacts that can be found on my iPhone. Even with pictures from FB and extra info such as twitter accounts, etc.
The question is - how can I manage my contacts? Now I have added several new entries to my iPhone, but they won't appear on mac's address book. In iTunes the contacts sync box is unchecked due to the fact that iPhone syncs with iCloud. But then I'm wondering where did Address Book get all the contact updates that were made on iPhone?
I'd like to control this whole thing. And is there such thing as one data base, that could used by all devices and would change entries on all of them, if I change or add something on my iPhone?
Or I just have to get Lion and let the iCloud do the magic?
    Thanks,
    Lauris

I just synced my new iPhone (iOS 5.0.1) with the Address Book on my Mac which runs 10.5.8 and iTunes 10.5.2. I launched iTunes and then I connected the iPhone to the Mac. It appeared on the DEVICES list in the left column in iTunes. I selected it and then the Summary screen appeared in the right part of the iTunes window.
In the Backup section of the Summary you can choose whether to 'Back up to iCloud' or 'Back up to this computer'. Even if you have 'Back up to iCloud' selected, there is a 'Sync' button in the bottom right hand corner of the iTUnes window where you can manually initiate a sync with the Mac.
    Hope this helps,
    Dave

  • Sync Address Book with Mail Addresses

What's the trick to sync Address Book with Mail Addresses. My Mail Addresses has only a handful of my addresses from addresses from Address Book.
    Thanks

After upgrading to Snow Leopard, when composing a message, the address is not completed when typing is begun. I have checked the Mail Preferences - Composing and there is a check mark beside "Automatically Complete Addresses". The "Configure I.DAP" window is blank and I do not know what, if anything, should be in that window.

  • Trying to sync address book with icloud and Yahoo???

I have my iPone, ipad, and macbook all synced with the cloud.  all of my contacts are the same on each device.  i am trying to sync icloud with my yahoo account.  Is this possible?  it drives me crazy when i create a new contact on my phone and it doesn't show on my yahoo mail.  please help!!!!!

Enthusiast: I just got back from the Apple Store. This is the solution they suggested and seems to work. We got rid of iCloud contacts. We just set up Yahoo account in the "mail, contacts, calendars" of the iPhone. Under the "contacts" section we have the "default Account" set to Yahoo. When any additions/delete/mods happen then it is updated on Yahoo.
On the MacBook we deleted the "on My Computer" and deleted "iCloud" and then added the Yahoo account for synching. This is basically used as a secondary backup for the yahoo contact and used if using the computer. It is not necessary to use the computer for any of this.
I've been having lots of problems with Yahoo contacts. I had previously pulled in facebook contacts. This was NOT a good idea. I cleaned up my contacts, exported them out to CSV. Scrubbed some more. Imported them to a new yahoo account. Then deleted all contacts from my main Yahoo, permanently deleting them. Then imported my contacts. I did lose all my "lists" settings. That was a small price to pay.
Now iPhone, iPad and MacBook address book and Yahoo are all in sync.
I was shown at the store is to refresh the Yahoo webpage (CTRL R) and then refresh the contacts on the iPhone. There is a slight delay in update. iCloud is faster at it. But its best to avoid iCloud if you are using Yahoo contacts. Also avoid Facebook contacts. If you really want to use the Facebook feature, I would do it on a different account and then bring in the contacts that you want through an import.
I was having problems with Yahoo contacts and it might be that it was being flaky or they were experiencing problems ... because all of a sudden it started working again. I've seen similar problems with Yahoo Calendar.

  • ITunes doesn't sync address book with contacts

Syncing IPad2 with IMac address book doesn't update groups and contacts on IPad.

If you're using Mobile Me, you can try this: On the iPhone, go to Settings > Mail, Contact, Calendars > Account Name. Turn OFF contacts syncing. The in iTunes on the computer, view the Info tab on the iPhone item page. You should now be able to check the Sync Address Book checkbox and then click the Sync button. This might work with non Mobile Me accounts too.

  • Sync address book to Yahoo?

I'd like to sync my mac address book with my Yahoo! address book. Currently, the yahoo book mirrors a very old version of the Mac book. When I turn on the option in Address Book (Preferences/General) and then do a sync, it gives me two options - copy from Yahoo to Address Book, or merge the two. What I want is a third option - copy from Address Book to Yahoo - that doesn't seem to exist. When I try a merge, it threatens to change lots of my existing entries, and not in a good way, since my Mac addresses are the correct ones. I tried deleting all entries on Yahoo, but then when I do a sync with the merge option it wants to delete my entire Mac address book as well. Sheesh!
How do I make this work?
BTW, I think that I originally populated the Yahoo book from the Mac, but I can't figure out how I did it. Did Address Book used to have an option to export a .csv file? It doesn't seem to have such an option now, but I could swear that it did, once upon a time.
Thanks for any help with this.

Jerry, I've had the same problem. And the solutions offered by many involve third party apps and workarounds. That's not the answer, that's not SYNC, rather, we should take Apple to task, not make excuses for them. Enough of my ranting - here's what worked for me.
Like everyone else, I was excited about the possibilities of MobileMe and then, shockingly disappointed. I synced Mobile Me, Yahoo and and Iphone with disastrous results. Fortunately, I backed up everything. Decided to chuck MobileMe for a few months while Apple worked out the kinks.
But still had problems with Yahoo and Mac's Address Book. I discovered two potential problems. When an address book in Yahoo is deleted, it's stored in the Trash folder and probably confuses the sync mechanism so empty your Yahoo Trash folder. Secondly, as mentioned in previous replies, you do need to turn on the isync feature and click on "sync now" after you enable Yahoo in your Address Book preferences. It's OK to click on Merge Data since nothing exists in Yahoo to corrupt your Mac Address Book.
You'll probably see 100 contacts within a minute of syncing but the rest take a few minutes (I also have over 500 contacts). Log out and back in again and your Yahoo Address Book should be populated.
Hope this helps and hope it works for you!
I've heard good things about Plaxo and tried it briefly a few month ago but wasn't impressed, but meant to try again when I have more time. Thanks for the reminder Toadman.

  • Sync Address Book with Google Mail

Since the update to Mac OS X 10.5.3 I expected to sync my Address Book with my Gmail account. But no can do, and I don't know why. Is it just for iPhone users?

There are several ways to do this, but it all depends on whether you prefer a simple solution versus a more technically involved solution. If you're like most non-technical people, I'll assume you prefer the simple solution, so you should check these out and decide which of them you want to use:
Soocial: [www.soocial.com] (currently in closed beta)
    Syncman: [wateree.net]
    GooSync: [www.goosync.com]
    ABGMerge: [homepage.mac.com]
    Spanning Sync: [blog.spanningsync.com]
    BusySync: [blog.busymac.com]
Or, if you want to go with the technical method that involves no money, just skill and patience, read this article: <http://www.zaphu.com/2008/05/29/how-to-enable-mac-address-book-syncing-with-go ogles-gmail-contacts-without-an-iphone-or-mac/>

  • Sync address book with Google Problems

I have just enabled the option to sync my address book with my Google contacts account. Before i sync'd i deleted everything in the google contacts as it was way out of date, The sync process appeared to have worked as all contact info from address book appears in my google account, but then i get a message indicating that more than 20% of the contacts in the OSX Address book are going to be changed, how can this be? ...
    Any ideas??
    thx
    John

John, I believe the answer lies in the subtle differences between contact fields used and populated by Address Book, and those used and populated by Google Contacts: they do not utilize the same fields for what, on the surface, appears to be the same info. For example, if your Address Book entry contains two words in the last name field, Google imports this as one word for middle name and one word for last name. The sync back from Google to Address Book results in "duplicate" entries, and the warning message that your Address Book entries will be changed.
I just spent two days trying to get this to work the way I wanted it to (I just got a new phone that syncs with Google Contacts. I did just what you did and found just what you discovered. It drove me nuts.
I concluded it what possible to line it all up between the two, but the amount of manual actions necessary on my part was not, for me, worth the time expended to do it. That's as far as I got.
