I think I have an illegal version of Leopard..

Any way to check? My friend said he had a copy of Leopard and installed it for me, and it was working fine earlier. Now there are a bunch of bugs despite me updating to 10.5.2, running slow a couple of times. I've had my iMac for over 2 years now and have never had as many problems as I have in the 7 months owning this MBP.
I was wondering how to check on my own if its legit because I want the Apple Geniuses to see if they can fix my MBP. Like will they check my edition and, should it be illegal, will they still help?
Thanks

There you go. That makes it illegal.

Yes, but until now you have been using legal software with the requisite repair disks

You should buy and install your own legal copy before going to Apple.

    What OS are you on?
Are you certain it is not compatible with this OS?
Is there an error message presented?
What type of file are you trying to open?
TextEdit is a built in app, shipped with the OS, it can't be downloaded from the store, have you copied TextEdit from a backup or is it trying to run from a backup disk or other copy of the OS - Spotlight can sometimes find & try to run other versions. Eject any backup disks & retry.
Try opening directly from /Applications (the Finders 'Go menu > Applications' will take you there).
If you need to restore the App you will need to have it in a backup or use the OS installer.

I think you mean "there is only iWork.com". iWork is the name of the 3 software programs. iWork.com is a web site.
You can use iWork.com till 1 August. (Apple is shutting down iWork.com from 1 August.) After that date you'll have to use iCloud, though it's available now to use. See Re: How to upload a document to iCloud from Mac?
NB This process is a bit clumsy. Apple have said they'll be improving iCloud in OS X Mountain Lion. But this new version of OS X won't be available till end of summer (or winter if you're in the other hemisphere).
Note also that iCloud only syncs documents between your devices. It doesn't share documents with others. If you need to do this you should consider another service like DropBox, Google Drive or Microsoft Skydrive.

Hi I am currently have a subscription to PS CC but I don't think I have the latest version.  I believe this because I don't get the new welcome screen and don't have new features like the structure and color setting in the content aware patch tool.  I have checked for updates and it tells me I have the current version.  I check in PS I have version 14.2.1.  I also have CS6 installed on my PC, could this be somehow be doing something or am I doing something wrong.  Would anyone have any suggestions.

Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type this exactly as you see it here;
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
    Click Go
Then right or control click the Flash Player.plugin then click Get Info
The version number is noted there.
Assuming you are using Safari ...
Check Safari > Preferences > Security
Make sure:  Enable plug-ins is enabled.
Sometimes uninstalling the currently installed Flash plugin then reinstaliing new can help > Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
If you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video / audio from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to:  Open in 32 bit mode  is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.

  • 6.0.5 update thinks I have a newer version

I have iTunes 6.0.4.2 on my system and, appropriately, it tells me there is a newer version available when I start iTunes. I downloaded the 6.0.5 update and when I run it, the installer starts up, then says that the version on my system is newer than the one I'm trying to install and the installer shuts down. Is this a common problem?
    Sandy

That should prevent me from getting messages that there is a newer version available but I don't think that will help me install the newer version. (Although, to be honest, I don't know if the newer version will provide any particular benefits).

You cannot. From a legal standpoint, the license agreement for OS X mandates that you run OS X only on Apple hardware. HP is not (yet) owned by Apple.
From a technical standpoint, your HP laptop doesn't use EFI, but rather an early predecessor called a BIOS. Apple is the only vendor of consumer computer hardware that uses EFI; other vendors reserve EFI for use in servers.
Secondly, Apple's operating systems support a rather limited number of configurations of video hardware and mainboard chipsets directly since they need only support those systems that they manufacture. You cannot use Windows software or drivers on OS X, so prior to installation, you would need to write your own hardware drivers for your laptop, create an OS X drive image on a Mac, and then modify that image with your drivers before putting it in the HP.
It will be simpler (and legal), to simply purchase a used Mac. Apple's online store has refurbished MacBook Airs starting at $850 and Mac Minis for $700. If you go to e-bay or craigslist, you'll find used Macs for considerably less.

  • I think I have the latest Firefox version, but keep getting messages about updating it. 1 says something is preventing Firefox from updating securely; another says something is trying to trick Firefox into accepting an unsecure update. What's going on?

The 1st message goes on to say, "Please make sure that you have the latest version of Firefox from http://www.firefox.com." Assuming 4.0.1 is the latest version, it seems this is a bogus message and I haven't clicked on the link.
The 2nd message goes on to say something like, "if this continues [the attempt to trick Firefox into accepting an unsecure update], contact your network administrator."
I started getting the messages on all 4 of our PC's (2 desktops running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, 1 running XP 32-bit, & a laptop running Vista Home Basic 64-bit) after updating to Firefox 4.0 on them. I manually updated to 4.0.1 on all thinking that would stop the messages, but it hasn't.
I loaded & ran free versions of McAfee Stinger, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and Super Anti-Spyware programs on all our PCs; each program found & repaired some infected files on each computer, but the messages continue on all.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Apparently this occurs when Firefox has problems with security certificates. There have been a few questions about this. I will try to get advice about this.
Apparently you are using Internet Explorer 9 (From your system details). Do you have Google Updater plugin installed on Firefox ?
(That been implicated in this sort of problem by one poster, and some users with the problem do have Google Updater, but some do not)

Like I said before, you can log-in to Adobe's site and retrieve your product info and serial number.

CS6 is the last product version you could purchase outright.  There is no CS7.  Going forward, everything is Creative Cloud based now.

  • Store thinks I have latest versions when I don't

Hi. I own Pages 08 and Rapidweaver 4, both of which are not the latest versions. The latest versions, Pages 09 and Rapidweaver 5 are both in the App Store. However, the App Store says that both programs are installed on my Mac, even though, as I said, I have older versions. Because the App Store thinks I have both programs, it won't let me buy them. I don't want to buy the newest versions from the App Store right now but I might in the future. I'm sure this problem must exist with other programs too. Is there a way to let Apple know what's going on? I don't know if Apple employees ever engage in this forums.
    Thanks.

If you change/modify the name of the app that is installed, the new version should then become available for purchase in the MAS.
Example; change iPhoto to iPhot. To change the name of a 3rd party app click once on the app's icon to highlight, then click a second time directly over the apps name. To change the name of most Apple apps you will have to change the permissions in the Get Info window for that app first.

  • Hi!  I just updated to Mountain Lion to make full use of iCloud, and I am attempting to turn on Photo Stream.  I currently have iPhoto '09, version 8.12, and think I need to update to iPhoto'11, but I'm reluctant to do this due to very bad reviews.

Obviously only you can decide what is "worth it".  Millions and millions and millions of people use and like iPhoto '11.  Some don't. If you want PhotoStream then you must upgrade to the minimum software levels

  • Some sites (Youtube, Comcast, etc., think I'm using an old version of Firefox, but I have the latest version.

Some sites such as Youtube, Comcast, and others give me a warning that I am not using a compatible browser and suggest installing Firefox (among others).
Even this page that I am typing on now thinks I have Firefox 2.0.0.14!
However, I have Firefox 3.6.12 installed and seemingly working fine. I've even tried re-installing the latest version of Firefox over my current installation (I don't want to uninstall first, as I am afraid of losing my Bookmarks), but to no avail.
Can anybody tell me what's wrong? Thanks very much!
