I think I'm screwed...

I spent five days in London and downloaded 4,140 KB worth of data. I don't have an international data plan. Does anyone know how much this will cost me?
(Gulp)

it depends on the country you visited.
this website should help.....i set it up based on germany's rates.
http://www.wireless.att.com/travelguide/coverage/coverage_details.jsp?CIDL=276&M NC=CING&DID1=309&DID2=&STEP=5
however it says $0.50 per text and $.0195/KB per data
so you'll be paying approximately $80 in overages assuming you didn't send any texts and that you were in germany.

    Hi wellsfar,
Which version of Adobe Reader you are using?
Is it showing any error message?
A screenshot of the error would be more helpful.

  • I (think) I accidentally screwed up my EFI or MBR installing Ubuntu

Ok. I was installing Ubuntu on my MBP. I didn't pay attention to where it was installing grub. I tried deleting ubuntu and grub. I symlinked the EFI partition, and deleted grub from there. When I boot, I get a black screen, and the sh-sh noise my mac normally makes when it boots. If it was the first time booting since I last booted successfully, it makes 1 long beep. If I shut down, wait a few minutes, and try again, I get a black screen with no beep. If I shut down, wait, boot it back up, I can boot up fine. I think I messed my up my MBR or EFI. I also did sudo fdisk -u /dev/disk0. I don't have a windows disk, and reinstalling os x is not an option, because my mom would kill me for "messing with technology." Any help would be appreciated.

I'm having the same problem.  Do you happen to remember where you found instructions to "force update" the firmware?  I've tried the Firmware restoration CD but can't figure out how to use it since holding down the power button doesn't change the boot behavior.

  • I think I really screwed up --- need help badly.

    Hello ---
Today I did something I have wanted to do for a long time. I put a new Newer Tech 1.6 Gb processor in my trusty G4 733 digital audio machine. I did everything the manual said correctly, performed the firmware update, installed the new processor, and --- you guessed it --- nothing! Computer wouldn't boot at all from either drive or from a cd rom. The monitor tells me there is no video in, and the power button on the front only illuminates when I press it --- then it goes dark again. The reset button on the front doesn't do anything anymore either. I have reset the PRAM, and even reinstalled the original processor, with the same result --- nothing. I hope someone out there can give me some advice, as I have an awful lot of myself in that machine. Thank goodness I have this laptop I'm using right now, or I couldn't even ask for help. Any advice would be appreciated.

PowerMac G4 Digital Audio 733   Mac OS X (10.3.8)   Other drive has OS 9.2.2

Thank you all for your responses. I checked the voltage in the PMU battery again this AM --- 3.7V, so it appears as if it is OK. However, I will buy a new one either today or tomorrow anyway just in case. As far as whether the cpu cards were fully seated, I'm sure they were. I seated the new one, removed it when it didn't work the first time, reseated it again, and it still didn't work. That's when I removed it again and re-installed the original, and I'm sure it's seated all the way. Both of them heated up while the power was on, and the fans operate on both of them. As far as the video card goes, I didn't touch or come anywhere near it, so I don't see how it could be not plugged in. The card I have actually has two screws holding it in place. What I really don't understand is, why do only portions of this machine not operate now? Why, for instance, does the Superdrive work, or at least make noise when I try to boot from a CD (of course I can't tell what's happening because the monitor is not getting input), and why does the power button illuminate when I press it and then go off. Why do neither the reset or the programmer's button on the front function? Is there some component of this machine, other than the logic board (by the way, is that synonomous with the motherboard?) which could have malfunctioned instead of the logic board itself? I appreciate your comments regarding the fact that "all is not lost". I thought about those same things last night while trying to sleep. I know I can remount my drives in external cases if I have to, and I'm sure I can replace the logic board also if that's necessary. It's all just a big pain, and I'm either mad at myself for doing a lousy job, or mad at OWC for selling a lousy product. I just don't know who to be mad at more.
    Thanks again,

  • Oh dear, I think I just screwed up my disk image. HELP!

I just got, several hours ago, a snow iMac G3 (OS 9.0.4), went home, connected it to the emac via firewire, and turned on the imac and pressed T.
the in the emac (OS 10.4.10), I created a disk image from the folder in the imac that has all the stuff in it (ALL of the stuff. its the only item on the root diretory). then I repartitioned the imacs HD four ways: one for the stuff that came on it, one for Ubuntu, and one for my deceased ibook( clamshell OS 9.2.1), and the rest free space.
then I mounted the disk image to make sure it worked, it did. then I went to the restore pane in Disk Utility, dragged the disk image to the sources box, and the partition onto the destination box. then I pressed restore, and it failed.
but I though, 'oh yeah, in 9 or lower, you could just drag system folders around and boot from them. so I went to mount the disk image, and now it says "no mountable file system" this really *****.
I figure I have two options:
    1. recover the data from the disk image - hard
    2. recover the data from the hard disk - even harder
    help? anyone?

maybe I screwed up by having a disk image smaller then the partition?
but how would that affect the disk image? it was compressed, so doesn't that mean that it is read only, ie locked?

  • I think I'm screwed. HotSynching overode my handheld calendar....HELP!

I'm trying to remain calm.. but I think I just lost 4 years of my calendar...
I use my Tungsten E for business, and my desktop calendar is where I do most of my scheduling and then go back and adjust it as actual time records for billing...
Today my Win XP computer kinda froze and my Palm Desktop wasn't responding... didn't do a hard reboot or anything but closed the program.
Somehow next time I opened up the Palm Desktop program my calendar was just gone...
The handheld was current as of 2 days ago, so I thought I'd restore the calendar from that when I HotSynched...
But I guess I didn't check my preferences and the only appointment it retained was the last one I had adjusted.... all the rest in both handheld and desktop are now gone. ( pref was "Synchronize Calendar" w/o either handheld or desktop checked to always override the other.)
Any suggestions on how to retrieve the data?
I was thinking of using GoBack... but I don't even know what the calendar file might be called...or if I can get it back....
Any help will be greatly appreciated...

Message Edited by irrig8r on 04-27-200708:11 PM

I am revisiting this topic because I think I've done it again.... or I should say my computer/ handheld have. I tried hotsyncing yesterday and realized I hadn't done so since March 15, 2011.
That's when my handheld records ended.
So, I went to the desktop program where my records should have been current... and somehow, since the last Windows security update a couple of days ago (coincidental?) they weren't. (Seems that my computer must have automatically restarted to finish the security update installation and my desktop program was open at the time. Somehow I think this combination of events might have corrupted my calendar files.)
Hotsyncing erased files on the desktop back to September, 2009.
So I tried hotsyncing again... and more files were erased... though on the handheld this time, going back to August 2004. (I have had my desktop program through three computers, a Palm Pilot, a Palm III and a Tungsten E and my calendar was more or less continuous going back to 1998.)
I decided to check the hotsync log, where I discovered it had been telling me since last October that it was unable to sync various files, mostly contacts and calendar. It's telling me I may have reached a maximum number of records at somewhere between 6,000 and 7,000 (does this really happen?) and suggested I delete some.
I'm printing weekly calendars from the desktop to 2009 while I still have them.
After checking this board and remembering Go Back I thought I'd have an easy fix... except I remembered I replaced Norton with trend Micro about two years ago after some issues with Norton.. so now I've really done it.
    Bottom line:
I think it's time to retire both my Palm desktop and my Tungsten E and go with either an iPhone or Android phone. My son showed me how easy Google Calendar and Contacts (Gmail) are to use, with many of the same features as what I'm used to... but since everything is stored "in the cloud" I won't have to synchronize and i can access all my data from anywhere. Though I may get in the habit of printing calendar records weekly for hard backup.
I'm going through and printing weekly calendars going back to the beginning, just to help me remember which customers I did work for when and in more recent years document mileage, etc., for tax purposes.

  • I think ATT is screwing me.  Is there any way to monitor my  MB usage?

I see odd charges like 50MB when I am sure I was not using my phone. Certainly, I would remember using 50MB, that is watching roughly 50 min of video.
So, is there any way to monitor my usage on the iPhone? Some log that breaks down the usage by minute?
    Thanks

I believe I may have found the culprit for me... It's one of two things - not sure which one (maybe a combination of both) since I did both at the same time. I just wanted to avoid data overnight, and not have to constantly turn off Cellular Data (if I didn't have to).
For 3-4 nights, I left Cellular data off, just to prove the data reported early morning wasn't data deferred from earlier in the day. Sure enough, if turning off Cellular Data overnight, no mysterious data showing up early morning.
Then I did these two things:
    1) Plugged iP4 into iTunes, CTRL-click on iphone and do 'Reset Warnings', then CTRL-click again and hit 'Sync', and then the "would you like to send Apple crash reports, bla bla bla"... hit "Disagree"
    2) go to http://oo.apple.com using your iPhone (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4228)
After doing those two things, I started leaving Cellular Data ON over the last couple of nights.
Low and behold - at worst, 1-2MB overnight and that's from some emails that came in overnight. No huge 40-50MB chunks, or even 100+MB chunks which I've also had...
I don't know which of the two did it, or maybe a combination of both. I don't really care, all I wanted is to eliminate any "unapproved by ME" data being transferred overnight without my knowledge or consent. Seems to be working so far after two nights. Will continue to monitor obviously.

  • I think I just screwed up my ipod please help

All right I recently bought an external usb hard drive since my computer was almost ouot of space. I moved my ipod library over to it and for some reason every song was duplicated ,some multiple times, and about 1,000 songs are missing. Also now it says i have t o erase and sync because my ipod is synced with another library. I still have all my songs and playlists on my ipod so how can I just restore my ipod library to my hard drive and have that be my itunes library that will sync with my ipod?
    thanks for your help,
    frustrated and mad

did you make sure that no one else is using your connection to the internet, or maybe you just had another program working?!?!

  • My iPhoto would open with stating the files were damaged. I created a new library, thinking I could just retrieve the old one through the Pictures folder. Now I cannot find the old library.

I fear I may have deleted ALL my photos!!! When opening iPhoto it stated that the photos were damaged. By creating a new photo library, I now cannot find the old photos in the Pictures file. I think I really screwed up!!!

Download and run Find Any File to search for "Library6.iPhoto" on your hard drive. That's a file that is in every iPhoto library. And  Find Any File can search inside packages as areas that Spotlight can not.
See if you find more than one of those files.  If you do then you can find out where that other library is. If there's only one found click on the Desktop to get to the Finder and use the Go ➙ Go to folder... menu option. Enter in the window /Volumes.
When you created the new library did you get this window where you were to either accept the default name that iPhoto presented or rename the new library?

  • Apple royally screwed up

JUst wondering if there is any talk or if anyone else out there thinks apple royally screwed up quicktime pro with the release of version 10?
I seems to me to be the worst release since version 1.

Your question is misplaced as there is no pro version of Quicktime 10.
Mac OS X 10.6 includes QuickTime versions 10.0 and 7.6.3. The QuickTime 7 player will only be present if a QuickTime Pro key was present at the time of installation, or if specified as part of a custom install, or individually downloaded.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl923
Snow Leopard update 10.6.4 included an update to 7.6.6 (if installed). You can install it from the above link even though it says for 10.6.3. It's the same version of QuickTime Player 7.6.6.
Only QuickTime Player 7.6.3 or 7.6.6 can be updated to "Pro".

  • I just recently noticed at the bottom of my iPhone 4 I am missing one of my screws. The downfall is my 1 year warranty ended about a month ago, will they still replace it or trade in?

I need to know if apple will still help me out on my missing screw even though my warranty is expired

I scarcely think a missing screw warrants a replacement phone. Ask you local Apple store, if you have one. They can probably spare a screw.

  • Oh dear god i think i broke my ipod!!

i have a 2gb nano and i pluged it into my computer today and every thing was fine until i accidentaly hit the backspace button when my ipod was highlighted
i think this totally screwed up my ipod!! when i plug it in, my computer doesnt reconize it and it doesnt show in itunes
iv tried resetting my ipod, restarting my computer, and when i run the updater, it doesnt accept that there is an ipod attached, so i cant restore it
those atticles dont help me at all, just confuse me more, and i somehow ended up with my ipod in disk mode, and now it wont get out, no matter what i do
please help me, and in normal, human talk, those support atticles havnt helped me at all
also, before it went into disk mode, i saw a folder with an excalmation point
and sorry for sounding crazy because im panicing and its really late

oh, and one more thing, i havnt uninstalled and then reinstalled my itunes because i fear losing all of my music on my computer, but im not sure if that would happen, so can someone confirm or deny this?

  • A disk in the DVD drive causes a crash, machine will not start

I have a fairly bizarre problem, searched, didn't find it in here so... maybe I am special. Anyway. I have a 2.4ghz MBP with 4GB of memory. I got it in November (with Leopard). It has worked without an issue until I started tonight to give bootcamp a go on it.
    Symptoms:
    - Leopard boots up fine, logged in, nothing else open
    - Insert any disk (DVD, CD-R)
    - Leopard crashes
    - continues to cycle through a restart but it keeps crashing waits 1 min, restarts, repeat
    - Even tried a Leopard disk
    Tried:
    - disk utility to look at things
    - can't load anything to check the hardware cause its cd based
What I did before it started going nuts?
I used bootcamp to partition the drive. This worked fine. Stuck the XP disk in and it read it fine. Machine rebooted to install XP, this was fine. Things went well until the XP install asked for a reboot. Then it restarts, disk failure. I eject disk and select OS X. Off we go, things are good.
I delete partition thinking something got screwed up. Tried again. This time when I put the XP disk in the thing crashes while in Leopard.
While I have typed this my machine has restarted a dozen times on its own. It is kinda funny to watch but *** has happened to it? I can't even re-install Leopard... no drive.
The DVD drive does spin up but after a few seconds it crashes. Any ideas out there?

    Maybe related...
Bought a 2.6G MBP yesterday, brought it home, booted up, everything great until I started loading my apps---CDs/DVDs would spin and spin, then eject---then Install Disc 1 froze the system. Can't eject the disc---onboard fans racing like jet engines and the keyboard area near the screen seemed very hot. Posted last night---someone thinks either bad optical drive or motherboard. About to go see a Genius now. For $3K+, this pretty much *****.

  • Permissions Issues after Transferring iTunes Library to new Mac.

My intention is to move the library off my old iMac, and keep the iTunes library on the new one, while still keeping the old iMac around.  After the transfer i intend to delete the library off the old one, and use HomeSharing to utlize iTunes on both Macs.  Also, the old iMac is where our family has synced ever iPod, iPhone, & iPad we've owned...  I've been on the support community for almost two days now, and thought I had it figured out, but... i obviously don't.  So i apologize if there is a thread that already answers this question, if so, please be kind
in the process of moving my iTunes from my old iMac (iMac7,1 - OS X 10.6.8) to my new iMac (iMac Late 2012 - OS X 10.8.5) i used the instructions on: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527.  It identified how to move the library found in (on my old iMac) VolumeA/music/iTunes.  I used the External Hard Drive method, only I linked up the two iMacs with an Ethernet cable (direct connect, no router) and copied the iTunes folder (as described in the instructions) to the desktop of the new iMac. Then I pasted the iTunes folder over the existing folder on the new iMac.
Now I'm having trouble with permissions on the new iMac now.   At first iTunes wouldn't even open.  It said I didn't have permission, or the library was in a locked file.  I thought I had it figured out by going into "get info"  in the iTunes folder (on the new iMac) and adjusting the permissions.  which worked as far as allowing iTunes to open now (Both computers are running iTunes 11.1 (126)).
Now that i've synced my iphone 5 with the iTunes (on the new iMac) i noticed that some of the songs wouldn't sync because I don't have permission...?
Beginning to think I've screwed this whole thing up...
Also, I noticed that there is another iTunes folder, that wasn't discussed in this article:  VolumeA/Library/iTunes - Do i need to copy this one over as well?
I'm such a noob at this that i'm almost embarrased to ask for some help, but PLEASE HELP!!  I haven't touched my old iMac's library, and won't until
Thanks in advance for anything you can do!

It helps to know which instructions you are following.  Some people follow the wrong instructions and just move media, not the whole library which consists of many files and folders.  You do not do it with changing preferences.
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the library.

  • Every single song I delete from iCloud on my Mac remains listed in the Music app on my iPhone 4S, and then becomes broken -- What the heck?

    Hello,
So this is annoying me to no end because I just spent $25 to sign up for iTunes Match and so far its wasted my time and given me nothing but a massive headache. This is obviously a major bug on the SERVICE END, not mine.
Starting with an empty iTunes library on my Mac, I began ripping my CDs in iTunes Plus AAC format the other night with the intent of matching & uploading my entire music library into iCloud for streaming & downloading to my iPhone 4S on the go. Simple in theory, right? After some basic tag editing -- changing genres, a simple alteration to a title here, deleting the composer there -- and then updating iTunes Match (Store > Update iTunes Match), I notice I'm getting duplicates of a bunch of my songs appearing on my iPhone. I haven't downloaded anything to the device, they're all just listed with the cloud icon next to them.
So I'm thinking, whatever, I screwed something up. I'm only several CDs into the process so I'll just delete the iTunes library and start over again. Shift + right click, delete everything. Do you want to delete these songs from iCloud as well? Yes. Update iTunes Match. There are 0 songs in iCloud. Okay.
The songs are still showing in my iPhone Music app. Strange. Swipe to delete does nothing, they're not on the device. They're pointing to files in the cloud that are either no longer there or somewhere that I cannot access anymore. Broken aliases. The album artwork still shows up, but playing the songs just kicks me back to the album menu. Navigating to Settings > General > Usage > Music shows me there is no data on the device. 0 bytes.
One thing I notice is that sometimes after syncing a handful of these broken songs will show up in a "Purchased" playlist on my iPhone within the iTunes browser -- I haven't purchased any music from the iTunes store, not one song -- and inspecting them with right click > Get Info reveals them as Stream files, not iTunes Plus AAC files.
Turning iTunes Match off and on again both from within iTunes and on my iPhone does nothing.
Syncing wirelessly or via USB does nothing.
Backing up and restoring my iPhone does nothing.
Double clicking the Home button and quitting the Music process, then opening it again does nothing.
Hard resetting the iPhone does nothing.
This is something that's happening with my Apple ID on the service end, not locally or on the user end. As long as iTunes Match is turned on in my iPhone settings, all of this broken music -- everything I've matched to iCloud and deleted -- shows up. I've done everything within the parameters of proper usage, and iTunes tells me there is nothing in iCloud after it updates but my phone keeps seeing crap that isn't -- or shouldn't be -- there.
I WANT to use iTunes Match, I just paid 25 freaking dollars for it, but its completely busted for me right now and I know ripping and matching some more CDs is just going to make it worse and populate my iPhone with an even bigger broken library. I just ripped and matched one more CD an hour ago without editing any of the tags, just let iTunes Match do its thing, and then after right clicking and following the prompts to delete the 18 songs both from both iTunes AND iCloud its still showing up on my iPhone. Busted like all the others.
Can we please get an update on this as soon as possible? This is driving me nuts and I don't know what else to do.

    It's a slightly convoluted process.
Disable iTunes Match on your iPhone
Settings > Music > Itunes Match
Now, make sure you've killed the Music app by double-tapping the home button, and deleting the app there where it is running.  Important step. The app should not be active.
    Next step:
Settings > General > Usage (it takes a while to load) > then delete the Music app there
Power your phone down, and back up again.
Sync your music via iTunes like you always have ...
... and this should fix your problem.
