I think I messed up something..... HELP!!

Hey Guys I just wanted to start off by saying i have never owened any Apple product before in my life and I need some help because I am not familiar at all! here is my situation:
So about 6 months ago my Grandfather passed away naturally in his sleep, it shook my family since he was only 63. After all of his belongs got split up, I ended up getting his MacbookPro about a week ago. I was excited as now I had a macbook and didnt have to pay anything for it! Well i think i might be wrong. So i opened up his laptop and it went right to his desktop page so I was clearly excited that he had not had a password set! So clearly I didnt want all my Papas old and personal stuff, so i looked up how to reset a Macbook Pro to stock, and it seemed very easy to me! I rebooted it, Pressed Command+R, went to the Hard drive page, and wiped it. The instructions claimed all I had to do was hit the button to reinstall Mountain Lion and I wouldn be good. Well that was not my case; as when i went to "reinstall" it told me I couldnt do that and I didnt have the rights? I dont have it right in front of me right now, so i dont have the exact message but it says to contact applecare or something? So guys here is my question, what is the simplest and easiest way for someone like me with no Mac product experience, to get this thing run with a Fresh OS? I dont even care if its not the newest and greatest OS, I just want to get this thing to start up so I can give it my little brother. Can applecare just get it on for me? I seriously have no idea what to do. Any help woulf be greatly appreciated!!
Kudos, Louis
Ps. I am not completely tech-slow. I know quite abit about this stuff I have just never delt with Apples

If Mountain Lion was already installed when you took possession of the MBP, you should post in the OS X Mountain Lion forums.  The experts over there will show you what to do.

My Iphone is constantly trying to turn itself off and also taking screen shots when I'm not touching it.  I think it may have something to do with the Sleep button but would welcome any suggestions. I have already restored it to Factory settings but it didn't help.
    Thanks,

Did you try to set it up as new device, without using the latest backup?

  • Sound card is messed up needs help!

Okay, one day I was out of the house and my brother used my computer. I came back and my sound card is not working at all. He told me he was only playing Team Fortress 2 but I think he's lying. He did something that made the sound not work. When I restart my computer the sound does work for a while but then in 5 minutes or less it just suddenly makes a painful ticking noise and jsut sto
    ps.
I try to go in open volume mixer or playback devices but they dont open or they just freeze and i have to use task manager to close the windows.
If I have my speakers turned off or my headphones unplugged the sound blaster is okay, it only freezes up when sound is played, and when frozen, it stays broken until i restart the computer. Sometimes when I restart it already doesnt work or when I try to shut the computer down it says the system cant shut down because it says its currently playing logoff sound so i have to end program to turn it off, and sometimes the computer doesnt shut down! It turns the moniter and mouse off, but the computer is still on and I have to hold the power button to turn it off. I reinstalled a fresh Windows Vista Ultimate hoping that would fix the problem but it still does the same, so its prabably not a software program, its the sound card or probably the moherboard. I have a HP computer with PCI-E Sound Blaster Xtreme Audio and have the latest drivers. Someone please help me I might need sound for an online summer coarse!

'Re: Sound card is messed up needs help!y someone2,
Here are links to some threads on similar questions with some troubleshooting you can try. You may find more using the Forums search function. Checking that Windows Audio is started and set to Automatic is simple in XP, but Vista may differ. If you can run msconfig, disable everything on the Startup tab, and see if you get stable sound. If so, then enable items one at a time until the problem returns.

  • I think I messed up. How to uninstall iLife disc and keep existing iPhoto.

Ok. I was reading some other answers but didn't see this one.  After upgrading to Mavericks 10.9.5, I began having problems with editing in iPhoto.
And upon opening iPhoto, it would take forever. Usually I just minimize it in the dock. So, if I do too much editing to my photos, they come out half overexposed and half normal. No rhyme or reason. No particular photos. Just random. Only if I do a lot of editing. I have to revert the photos and only do a little editing. Annoying. Spoke with Apple support for 2 hours. we tried everything he could think of. Nothing fixed it. He thought it might be a glitch in the software so he sent me a new iLife disc. Now when I bought this iMac in 2009, it already had iPhoto on it. No disc for that particular application. So the disc he sent me was the bundled version iLife '11 for version 10.6 or later.  Now here's where I think I messed up. I didn't delete my existing iPhoto before I clicked and installed the new disc. (My icon is the orange palm tree BTW)  so after install was complete, I clicked on it and it and the icon got a white circle with a line through it and a pop up that read, " Please run software update to install it now.  it offers two buttons to click...."Software Update" and "OK".  When I click on the software update, it takes me to the Yosemite upgrade feature (which I don't want).  What did I do??  iPhoto won't open at all.  Now I just want to forget this disc and go back to my screwed up iPhoto version. Help???

Nevermind. Fixed the issue.  Had to go back and install the earlier versions.

  • HT1212 My ipod is disabled and the message requests to try again in 223004 minutes.  I think it might have something to do with the date being set wrong before it went into disabled mode.  Can you assist in enabling.

You'll need to connect it to the iTunes library you normally sync it with and restore it.  If iTunes asks you for this passcode before it will let you proceed, connect the iPod to iTunes in recovery mode instead using the instructions in this Apple support document.

  • I think I messed up my mac install by installing windows 8

Yesterday I tried to install Windows 8 on a Mac Mini using boot camp. I am new to Macs so when the windows installer told me it could not install to the Boot Camp created partition because it was not NTFS, I told it to wipe the partition and install it to the blank partition. Now I can run Windows 8 but nothing I do lets me back in to OSx. If anyone has any suggestions they would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think you "messed up" your Mac.
Read the Boot Camp guide and then install using Boot Camp Assistant. But first, you need to repartition and format that hard drive and reinstall OS X and your other apps and data to it; hopefully you have a very recent backup.

Yes, the iPhone 5S is a global phone. However, Sprint will only unlock phones for use on GSM networks outside of the U.S. In the U.S., that phone can only be used on Sprint's network.

Thanks for your help. that's not working either! ugh!!
I can open hotmail, but it's not formatting right, i can't open emails, nor send them.
Thank you so much for trying to help. I really appreciate it.
I understand that you can't get a virus by opening an email, but it seems way too circumstancial! This is my third mac -- because unlike PC -- I never had a problem. I understand this problem is not with my macbook, because every other website works fine -- it's hotmail!

  • My iPhone 4 screen is MESSED up, plz help me , what can i do now?

    Well that is very vague.
    What does "messed up" mean?
    Shattered?
    What?

  • Tried BIOS flash, but I think I messed up.

Well, things look bleak.  I flashed my K8N Neo2 to Syar's BIOS by using a CD with an ISO image burned on it.  I booted up and the computer read the CD, I typed Flash.bat and it installed the BIOS.  This is where I think I messed up.  Instructions told me to shutdown, turn off PS and unplug. Then clear CMOS etc.  I did all this, but I turned off the power supply instead of shutting down.  Since I was in DOS I did not know how to shutdown while in DOS. Rooky mistake.  I think I should have pressed and held the CPU power button.
Now, all I get is a blank really black screen.  Any hope??? Or is it new MB time?

Have you tried to reset the BIOS by removing the CMOS battery and leave it to 10-30 mins? Make sure you removed the power cord as well as power connectors connected to your mobo. After you've removed it set it all the default setting and tried to reflashed it. Gd luck
PS: If you wan to flashed your Bios you can refer to my signature.

Trying to swap a clip in the timeline - doing what the book says - I am missing something - help - thanks

Usual mistake is to press the option key then click, hold and drag. Click and hold the mouse then press and hold the option key. Should work then.

  • Please Help Me I Think I Messed Something Up

So I saw on a website that I can make my computer faster if I type "sudo rm -rf /" into the terminal but now something is wrong with my Macbook...
1: What did I do wrong and how do I fix it?
2: Will this void my warranty?

    Welcome to Discussons.
If you had any important data on your hard drive that was not backed up quit using your hard drive immediately so you don't overwrite data that you want to recover. To recover your data use disk recovery software such as, Data Rescue 3.
Only reinstall Snow Leopard after your data is safely recovered.
Once you are up and running again please report the post that got you into this pickle to save others from suffering the same fate.
