I think I might have a virus or malware

I know that the likelihood is very slim that I have a virus but I have been having some problems lately. Earlier I had my laptop on and then I closed it and when I opened it back up and typed my password in it kept saying it was wrong. I even checked to see if caps lock was on and it was not. I had to restart my laptop for it to work. I also opened firefox today and it said that it was the first time I used it when it was not. The "you have never used this application before." message popped up. My Internet has also been slow. Graphics/images have not been loading on the Internet or they're pixilated and take a long time to become the resolution the image is at. I also have been having trouble with charging. I will leave it unplugged and then I'll charge it but it will say "battery not charging" but it is plugged in and it shows that it is plugged in it is just not charging but it is still not decreasing in battery power. If it is not a virus what is it and how could I stop these glitches from happening? Thank you.

Hi...
Doubtfull it's a virus or malware.
"battery not charging" but it is plugged in and it shows that it is plugged in it is just not charging but it is still not decreasing in battery power
Try troubleshooting the MagSafe adapter
If that didn't help, try Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
And since there are numerous issues, the startup disk may need repairing.
If you have Lion v10.7 insatlled, use Lion Recovery to repair the startup disk or reinstall the Mac OS X.
If you have a prior Mac OS X installed, help here > Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks
And make sure there's enough free space on the startup disk. Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop.
Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.

• I think I might have a virus on my mac, what should I do?

So I downloaded this thing that told me if I downloaded it, I could watch a TV show I was looking for
on it (ridiculous, I know) but ever since, I get these boxes that'll pop up on every site I go on (except for maybe facebook) and they display adds, it also will use certain words on a site and make them into links to send you to other sites or whatever that are irrelevant. I've attached a picture of what it looks like, it happens on netflix especially, every single time. I used a virus finder and tried to delete everything it found that was suspicious but its still going on, should I just wipe my whole computer back to factory setting?

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem. You installed the "Flashmall" trojan. Take the steps below to disable it.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. This procedure works as of now, as far as I know. It may not work in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for a more recent discussion, or start a new one.
Back up all data before continuing.
1. Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
~/Library/LaunchAgents
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. A folder named "LaunchAgents" will open.
2. Inside the folder you just opened, there may be files with a name beginning in any of the following ways:
com.crossrider
com.extensions
com.flashmall
com.webhelper
com.webtools
flashmall
UpdateDownloader
WebSocketServerApp
Some of these files may be absent. Move any that you have to the Trash and close the Finder window. Log out or restart the computer. The trojan will now be inactive, but there are a few more components of it that should be cleaned up.
3. Do as in Step 1 with this line:
~/Library/Application Support
A folder named "Application Support" will open. Inside it there may be a subfolder with this name:
webHelperApp
If so, move that subfolder—not the "Application Support" folder—to the Trash.
4. Open this folder in the same way as above:
~/Library/ScriptingAdditions
and remove an item named
BrowserHelper.osax
if present.
5. Open this folder:
~/Library
Look for subfolders with either of these names:
flashmall
WebTools
and move them to the Trash, if present.
6. Open the Applications folder. If it contains an item named "Flashmall" or "WebTools", move that to the Trash.
Empty the Trash.

• How do I fix a problem with Facebook. They think I have a virus or malware

I have been having trouble with facebook thinking that I have a virus or malware as I am posting on the games I play. I have an antivurus on my computer and it does not detect anything.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

• I might have a virus sending out e-mails.

Is there a free virus program for Mac OSX 10.9.2 ? I might have a virus sending out e-mails.

What makes you think that? What behaviour have you observed?
There are no viruses as such on OS X -- programs that can enter the computer from the network, install themselves, do bad things and pass themselves on to others.
There are trojans and other forms of malware. These usually require you to have downloaded and installed something.
OS X includes its own list of malware that it will not run. This is updated from time to time.
If you want to run a malware check, then ClamXav is the most common one.

• I think I may have a virus on my MacBook laptop, ran disk utility, "filesystem verify failed." Help!

I'm running a MacBook laptop and thought I might have a virus b/c i was browsing online a couple of days ago when i clicked on a link that appeared to automatically start downloading a file. I tried to stop it from downloading by clicking "cancel" in the downloads box that came up, but it compleatly downloaded before i could hit cancel. No programs automatically opened and started runnning (that i could see), but I've noticed slow browsing since then.
I ran the disk utility, "verify disk," to see if there were any problems. It came back with this error message: "First aid failed: Disk Utility stopped verifying "Macintosh HD" because the following error was encountered:
Filesystem verify or repair failed"
The text is black inside the verifying history box until the last three lines, which say in red:
"Invalid node structure
Volume check failed
Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed."
Does this mean I have a virus? Are there other things I can do to confirm that I do or do not have a virus? How do I fix this problem?
I'm running Mac OS X 10.5.8.
Many thanks for your advice/comments in advance.

Probably because the directory on the disk is corrupt.
The error "invalid node structure" is one that will take either DiskWarrior or a reformat to fix.
It has not to with any malware.

You'll need to connect it to the iTunes library you normally sync it with and restore it. If iTunes asks you for this passcode before it will let you proceed, connect the iPod to iTunes in recovery mode instead using the instructions in this Apple support document.

• HT1947 Help! I'm very new to my iphone and i think i might have accidentally deleted Facetime from my phone I dont have the icon anymore but my settings tell me have it. What do I do to get it back on my phone? Thank you!

Help! I'm very new to my iphone and i think i might have accidentally deleted my Facetime although my settings tell me I have it. How do i get it back on my phone? Thank you.

Built-in apps cannot be deleted. However, there never was a FaceTime icon on the iPhone. FaceTime is accessed by selecting a contact in the Contacts app, and then selecting FaceTime. The same can be done from the Contacts tab in the Phone app.

For some reason, your Mac doesn't recognise that a keyboard is present, so it looks for a wireless keyboard. The question is, why doesn't your Mac recognise that a keyboard is attached?
First, you need to make sure you remove all peripherals, especially USB peripherals (the keyboard is on the USB bus). Then restart holding down the Shift key. This should boot in Safe mode. If the computer boots normally (not in safe mode) and the keyboard is still not working, try resetting the SMC
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
<http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964>
If that still doesn't fix the problem, then the keyboard (or its controller) is probably damaged and needs to be replaced.

• I can't update my flash player and i might have a virus help me out with any advice on getting my mac on track ?

i can't update my flash player and i might have a virus help me out with any advice on getting my mac on track ?

You may have installed one or more of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
Malware is also found on websites that traffic in pirated content such as video. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
if it's not already checked.

• I'm getting an error message telling me to shut down my G5 OS X 10.5.8. this happens as much as twice a day. do i have a virus or malware?

i'm getting an error message telling me to shut down my G5 OS X 10.5.8. this happens as much as twice a day. do i have a virus or malware?

Is the screen in multiple languages saying to restart? If so, it's a kernel panic. It's highly unlikely you have a virus or malware.
Kernel panics are usually caused by a hardware problem – frequently RAM, a USB device or a Firewire device. What external devices do you have connected? When trying to troubleshoot problems, disconnect all external devices except your monitor, keyboard and mouse. Do you experience the same problems?
To eliminate RAM being the problem, Look at this link: Testing RAM @ http://guides.macrumors.com/Testing_RAM Then download & use Memtest & Ramber.
Do you have an Apple Hardware Test disc (the AHT is on the Install/Restore DVD that came with your Mac)? Running the Apple Hardware Test in Loop Mode is an excellent troubleshooting step for finding intermittent hardware problems. It is especially useful when troubleshooting intermittent kernel panics. If Loop Mode is supported by the version of the Apple Hardware Test you are using, you run the Extended Test in Loop Mode by pressing Control-L before starting the test. Looping On should appear in the right window. Then click the Extended Test button. The test will run continuously until a problem is found. If a problem is found, the test will cease to loop, indicating the problem it found. If the test fails, be sure to write down the exact message associated with the failure. In some cases, RAM problems did not show up until nearly 40 loops, so give it a good run.
May be a solution on one of these links.

• I am having problems getting into ICloud and Mail etc from System Preferences. Do I have a virus or malware problem?

A few months ago, I had a problem with my Mail app going offline constantly. Since then, for no apparent reason, that problem has gone away and another has taken its place. Now I cannot get into ICloud or Mail, etc. from my System Preferences on my MacBook Pro. Do I have a virus or malware? Should I immediately take my notebook in for repair or can I wait a couple of weeks until I return home?

Probably not a virus or malware, as both are relatively rare on Macs.
Probably not a hardware problem that requires "repair".
This is probably a software problem that can be fixed with a little thought and routine maintenance maneuvers and troubleshooting.
Here are some basic troubleshooting and maintenance maneuvers:
1. restarting your computer
2. repairing your hard drive When to Run First Aid in Mountain Lion's Disk Utility - For Dummies
3. repairing permissions About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature
4. starting up in safe mode OS X Mountain Lion: Start up in safe mode
5. a test user account Isolating an issue by using another user account
If you are not comfortable with this then you could take it in to your local "geniuses" at the Apple store. You could certainly wait a few weeks. Make sure you have a backup of any important documents that you don't want to lose, first.

• I think i may have a VIRUS on Tiger!

I updated to 10.4.7 last night, just for the record.
I keep getting an OS X pop up notice saying my hard drive is nearly empty and i should delete files. So I do. I deleted a bunch of files and it said I had about 1.68GB of free space. So I decided that was enough. about 2 minutes later after doing nothing, the same notice pops up and now i have 0kb of free space. i repeated the process deleting different files, and then i left finder open. soon enough, the amount of free disk space began falling by itself as i did nothing and the notice popped up again.
does anyone know what this is or how i might stop it?
thanks

I positive you do not have a virus. There are a number of different things that can cause your hard drive to start filling up. Take a look at this thread:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2263087&#2263087
Do a search on "hard drive full" and you'll find lots and lots of people have had the problem.

• I *think* I might have a lineless PB

Unfortunately I already made the decision to wait for an intel PB and therefore purchased upgrades to my current 1.33 12" over xmas. (New battery, ram & etc)
Story was, this is my 4th PB from amazon and they shipped it out late so I had a friend pick it up while I was away from my house. He said it had the lines so I decided to say *screw it* to the PBs and wait for the next iteration. Well my mistake, I decided to boot it up tonight and the screen surprisingly didn't show any lines at all.
I first thought it was a contrast issue because he might have messed around with it so I went into colorsync and reset it to color LCD.
Re-ran the crankycat image . . . . no wavyness in the top orange box, no banding in the darker orange box, no lines on the first corndog or display pic, banding that did not disappear on the 2nd set of pics. Rebooted and ran updates. Same thing . . . . no visible lines.
This PB is close to perfect. Fit and finish is superb, no keyboard or trackpad issues like my other ones had, superquiet seagate drive, screen appears to be line-less . . . . only issue is a DOA battery. Very hard to return it since I have been dealing with exchanging it and etc for 1.5 months. I am contacting my friend tomorrow to ask about these "lines" that he saw, but this is nothing like the three other ones I returned. If I had received this one to begin with, I would have definetely kept it.
Here's the info . . . another w8544 model . . . same as the other three that I got from amazon. A sticker on the box says 2005/10/27 . . . . other ones that I received had that same date or 10/28.
I am honestly really quite puzzled with this . . . . kinda disappointed too . . . . after purchasing the upgrades to my 12", it's not really worth it to sell it and keep the 15".
I do have a digicam, for those that may want me to snap up close pics of the screen. It is a canon SD450 which I recently acquired . . . . not sure how to get the detail of other up-close pics I've seen. If anyone has any pointers or etc, i'll gladly try to take the pics. The first few I tried just looked like nothing.
Dave

Hi Dave,
Happy new year and have fun with your perfect PB. I personally would keep it.
Pictures of your line less PB can really be useful for us, if you take the same kind of picture as the ones taken by Chloro and JFelbab. These pictures have been made using the blue acqua apple background (with swirling curve), using macro mode. The interesting pictures are the one showing the subpixels (red, green, blue). For examples see
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1422677#1422677
I guess you may have to set up your canon powershot that way :
use manual setting, remove flash, push the function set button
digital macro mode
spot
Fine
Large.
zoom at the maximum (X4), put your camera at the sufficiant distance to clearly see the VERTICAL banding, and shoot.
Then you would be get the squared nature of the pixel and in zooming the subpixel level.
I would be very interested to look at one of your pictures.
