I think I need a copy of Snow Leopard's Apple Utility App

I'm trying to renew a previous MacMini I have (Late 2009) and want to install10.6.3.  I have erased it in Disk Utility, but when I restart using the 10.6.3 Disk, it won't let me install - saying I cannot install on this disk...????
The only thing I can think of is I used Disk Utility from my current OS 10.8.3. to erase the previous MM.   I've viewed the contents of the Install, but cannot identify anything remotely close to "disk utilty".
It may not work - but is there anyway somebody who is currently using Snow Leopard could email me a copy of their Disk Utility app?
This is long shot.
(I want to install Appleworks so I can use it again....I HATE the 'many" apps I've purchased as a replacement, and I'm fed up with them.)
Thanks.

I'm in tears, I'm so happy - I have my Appleworks back.!
I can't thank you enough for your excellent and very instructive advice.  Yes, I confirmed that I indeed had a late 2009 MacMini and that the OS was definitely Snow Leopard.  Believe it or not, I still had copies of both the gray (machine specific) and the 10.6.3 retail disk.  After completely erasing the drive correctly, neither disk would allow me to install.  So I opened your doc abov  - How to erase & install Snow Leopard 10.6.  At the very end you gave advanced options & I chose #10: I created a Snow Leopard boot USB disk using a 32GB Flash drive (I tried using an 8GB, but it didn't like it). I started up using the Flash drive and Snow Leopard got installed perfectly.  Then I hooked the MM to my network, and updated the OS X to 10.6.8.  I plan to stop there.  Because...
I only plan to use it for APPLEWORKS. I then successfully installed Appleworks 6.2.9 and  when I saw that screen come up ...well WOW.  It's not that I use this app to really create anything - but I spend a lot of time editing graphics and this app is perfect for me.  I can use the lasso to "paint"'; & the lasso only goes around the art - it does not include the bg!  In the past I have scanned oversize art, then spliced them together in AW.  etc etc etc.  So I really missed this app very very much.
I checked out your "freebees" - very very interesting!
Again, thank you so very much.

I want to install Snow Leopard Server on our MacPro(2.66) using Mac Mini Snow Leopard Server disks?  I kept getting an error for backwards compatibility.   Is this possible or do I need topurchase another copy of Snow Leopard Server?

The OS disks that are shipped with a particular product
are set up so that tey will only install on that product.
It will install on any Mini of that exact vintage, but that
    is all.
This is to prevent people from doing exactly what you
are trying to do.  The license for OSX shipped with any
is only valid for that product.  Also, Snow Leopard,
including Server, is only permitted to be run on one
computer at a time.  Bottom line, unlike Lion, legally
you cannot install the same copy on multiple
computers unless some "family pack" or site license
    is purchased.
Yes, you need to purchase another copy.
The copy of Snow Leopard license is here:

  • If I need to wipe a 2006 17 in Mac Book pro, do I need to just purchase a retail copy of Snow Leopard?

Original disc is lost, I tried the disc for my 15 inch mac book pro, but it wouldn't work. As long as I buy a copy of Snow Leopard and run it I should be able to wipe the drive and reinstall the OS right?

Since the install DVD is actually part of the Mac and should be included with it when it is sold, you really should call Apple and order a replacement for it. Apple will charge you a nominal fee for shipping and handling.
Once you get the replace install DVD then you can erease the disk and reinstall Tiger.

  • Do I have to get a hard copy of Snow Leopard for my iMac if I already have it for my MacBook?

I have Leopard on my iMac, and Snow Leopard on my MacBook (both with all available updates)~I tried to use the Snow Leopard Install DVD from the MacBook to upgrade the iMac, but it said "Mac OS X 10.6 cannot be installed on this computer."  Why???  Do I have to get a hard copy of Snow Leopard for my iMac?  Are there different upgrades for the iMac vs. MacBook?
I think I understand that once I have both computers on Snow Leopard, the Lion upgrade would be ONE upgrade for BOTH computers {I'm guessing I would need the client version for at home use}.  Also, once Lion was on one computer, would I just go into the Mac App store on the other one and download the upgrade on the other one?  But no additional fee would be charged?  Lastly, I read about the combo option that includes all updates to Lion since it's release~would that be the main Lion upgrade on the Mac App or would I have to search for it?
    Thanks for your help!

The disc you used would have been the install disc that came with your Mac. These can only be used on that as they are made for that specific model.
Make sure your machine meets requirements
Macs with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core i3, Intel Core i5, Intel Core i7, or Xeon processor.)
    At least 2GB of RAM
Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later (Mac OS X 10.6.8 is recommended)
7 GB of free hard drive space is recommended
Once you've purchased it would be a good idea to create a bootable DVD or USB

But you can also go into the purchased section and download again

  • I don't have the option of installing a clean copy of Snow Leopard

I'm new to Mac and have been exploring different programs that would fulfill the same functions as the programs I had been using on Vista. Unfortunately, my computer got a little wonky somewhere along the way and I want to remedy it by erasing the hard drive and installing a clean copy of Snow Leopard. I've looked in my owner's manual as well as several websites online. They all tell me to select something either from a tab or an Options menu but there isn't one. When I reach the Select Destination window, I have the option to customize what is installed (i.e. Quicktime, Rosetta, etc.), go back and continue. Is it not possible or something???

it's possible but there is likely no need to do this. what exactly is wrong with your computer? a simple reinstall of snow leopard on top of your current system will cure many ills and will preserve your data and applications. and many problems can be solved without reinstalling at all.
but if you insist on doing a wipe and install boot from the SL install DVD and start disk utility from utilities menu at the top. erase your hard drive using the erase tab in disk utility. then quit disk utility and proceed with the install. and if you do reinstall I suggest you back up your data first. otherwise it will be completely wiped when you erase your hard drive. and you should always back up anyway.

I need to Upgrade to Snow leopard OS X from Leopard OS X, can i downlaod it from the Mac App Store, if so how do I do it?

Ah yes.  South Africa.   I checked the international listings for you but there seems to be no direct Apple support in South Africa.   I cannot imagine why since the political restraints for countries like Iran are not those of South Africa.
I understand that Apple United States do not ship orders outside of the USA.
You may have to contact Apple Head Office.

currently i am on Mac OS X ver 10.5.8.
processor 1.83 GHZ intel core 2duo
    memory 1GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
my question is that do i have to pay £26 for the upgrade in order to get the App Store application?

That is correct; FaceTime for Mac requires Mac OS X 10.6.6. So you will need to purchase the Snow Leopard upgrade if you want FaceTime.

  • Looking for copy of snow leopard, hate lion but don't want to pay 100$

I am looking for copy of snow leopard for a reasonable price. I hate lion it will not run any of my power pc software that I've spent $$ on. But don't want to pay 100$+ for a copy when a few months ago you could get it for 29$

It's still $29, unless you want to pay $100 for some opportunists selling it through Amazon or eBay.
To upgrade, you must buy Snow Leopard by calling the phone number in the Apple Online Store: 800-MY-APPLE (in the US).
Snow Leopard is not available for download from any legitimate source.
Make sure your system meets Snow Leopard's requirements:
Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" System Requirements
To install Snow Leopard for the first time, you must have a Mac with:
    An Intel processor
An internal or external DVD drive, or DVD or CD Sharing
At least 1 GB of memory (RAM) (additional RAM is recommended)
A built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer
At least 5 GB of disk space available, or 7 GB of disk space if you install the developer tools

  • I want to upgrade from Tiger 10.5 to Lion. I need to install the snow leopard first but they stoped shipping it to Greece. How do I get it? Please help.

    Hello guys!
I am facing a big problem.  I need to upgrade from OS X 10.5 to Lion BUT I need to upgrade to Snow Leopard first. They have stoped shipping to Greece and I am not able to find it anywhere (even Amazon does not ship this product here!!!) What I am supposed to do? Please help me.

Clone backup your hard drive at least twice*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
Erase and install Lion from the USB Flash Drive version that's available on the online store.
Use the Migration Assistant to import the data, if you are certain everything is compatible with Lion.  Read this user tip to determine if it might be incompatible:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2465
If you have any PowerPC (Rosetta) Applications, you may have to manually import the data from the backup:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2295
And then find the applications that are equivalent to them that are Lion compatible.

  • Need help upgrading to Snow Leopard

OK...I'm finally ready to upgrade to Snow Leopard.
I am currently runninag a 2.4 ghz Intell iMac (late 2007), 4 gig ram runing OS 10.4.11.
I have purchased an external harddrive, and created a bootable clone of my existing 10.4.11 OS.
I also purchased a full Snow Leoperd box set...complete with iLife.
Now...my understanding is that there no longer is an "easy" option to erase-and-install, or archive-and-install, as the installation now does the installation automatically.  (I understad that there is a manual wayto erase-and-install).  From what I read, the installation will upgrade my OS, leaving any comaptable sprograms in tack, and moving incompatable programs to a non-active folder.
I currently have several programs that I know are not compatable with 10.6, specifially iLife 8, Quark 7, and Adobe CS3.  I will installing the most current version of these programs once the OS has been updated.
I guess my question is...am I safe to just let the installer do the upgrade...keeping my existing software as it is...then try and install the newer versions of my software?
For example...iLife 8 will not work with 10.6.  So...once I upgrade to 10.6 what will happen to iLife 8?  Can I just install iLife 11 right overtop of iLife 8?
I guess...in the end...if something goes wrong I can always boot-up off of the 10.6 install disc and erase my HD and start from scratch...right?
    Thanks for any help.

It looks like you're all set up, so go for it. The upgrade should work fine, and should manage your incompatible applications accordingly. There is no way to predict if a problem will arise, but you've got your bases covered if it does. If something goes awry then you have the clone that you can use to either restore your current installation, or use as a migration source after formatting and installing a fresh copy of Snow Leopard.
