I Think I Really Messed Up!

Here's what happened. My iMac G4 refused to boot past the Apple and spinning wheel 2 days ago. I tried troubleshooting with the Hardware Test disc (found nothing), System Utility (found many "orphans"), safe boot (shuts down after Apple stops spinning, Single User boot (didn't know what do when I got there). Then I read a post here where it was suggested to try the TechTool Deluxe program found in the Apple Care disc.
Well, all the tests passed except when it got to the last one the "Volume Structure". I OKed the repair and after about 2 hours of "work", I was instructed to reboot. Now all I can get is this prompt "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button."
The "repair" managed to erase or compact about 16 GB. My hard drive is now called "untitled". I don't know what really happened, except now I fear the worst. Any hope or suggestions out there?

If Disk Utility can't fix it, you'll need a more robust utility for the repair. I would recommend DiskWarrior. It is the best at directory repairs. It rebuilds then actually replaces your old directory. I feel every Mac owner should have a copy. Make sure you get the disk so you can boot up on it to run repairs. You can also install it on another drive and run it from there to repair this one. DW works faster that way.
I use DW once a month to try and catch errors in my system from getting too far out of hand.
If you have a good backup, hopefully a clone of your system before you had issues, an Erase and Install will also rid you of this issue. But, beware! You will lose everything on the drive with this procedure. Let us know if you need help with that!
 Luck! DALE
p.s. by Thomas Bryant '''' from a previous post.
Diskwarrior is a "must have" utility and it's corrected any weird problem I've ever encountered. Anytime I have to do a forced shutdown etc. I run DW to get the directories back in tip top shape. Directory problems cause strange issues and often over the course of several weeks or months the little problems add up to finally a major problem. Tom

  • Icloud is really messing up my mail? anyone else

this morning my mac mail has been broken all day.... i checked with comcast, and att... and tryed to call apple... but they wanted 49 bucks... but eventually att put me thru to a tech.... apparently this has been a real problem today for about 1.2 percent of icloud users.... it has really messed me up as i have a home business..... anyone else?

Same problem here -- worst e-mail outage I've experienced in ages, and going on far too long to be excusable as a simple server issue. No point calling Apple, such a widespread outage is already on their radar and it's already common knowledge that they have screwed up. Making noise is not the worst approach in this kind of situation (denied service by a giant corporation that's unresponsive to your woes), so just complain far and wide until Apple (finally) gets their act together.

  • HT6030 Help!  I upgraded to Maverick and my emails are now really messed up.  It flagged over 5,000 messages when I haven't flagged anything.  Now, the email message that people are sending me is actually an email message from years ago.  Any explanations

Help!  I upgraded to Maverick and now my emails are really messed up.  It flagged over 5,000 emails that I have never flagged.  Now, it shows a message from someone this morning, but the content is an email that I received years ago.  My Iphone and Ipad are fine.  Any ideas?  I can't read mail off of my macbook because the email isn't what these people are sending!  Help!

Thanks one again. I know you helped me the last to. I do have the Deja Vu font set in my folder. I downloaded and the last time. So I don't know if there is supposed to be more or not, but those were installed with Windows-XP after my reformat.
This is really driving me nuts. as I've done several re-formats on my computer and several friends computers and even upgraded hardware so I am not necessarily a software or programming expert, I am somewhat advanced when it comes to computers in general and can usually diagnose the problem but these font's are the problem and they never were before.
I did see in another forum that if you had a Dell Computer and did the Microsoft update for the onboard video card driver that it could be the culprit, but I have that disabled being I have a much better graphics card so the updates from Microsoft for the onboard video weren't installed.
It' a Dell Dimension 3000 with an Intel(R) 82865G Graphics Controller so I don't believe it is the culprit being it is disabled. The actual video card that I am using is a PCI Nvidia GeForce 9400 GT with 1 GB Memory. And I didn't have any problem before.
I appreciate the help. But still can't get things to work. Live Help Chat doesn't open for another two hours so maybe they can do "Remote Access" or something and can check setting and help me. But if you come up with other suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks again.

  • My iphone 3gs is really messed up

soooo My iphone 3gs is really messed up. i havnt been able to use it because it was reset and says "insert a valid sim card with no pin lock to activate iphone" i also dont have a sim card tray, and im getting the sim card tray sometime this week. the other prob is that it freezes. ALOT. i simply press the home button to turn it on and it freezes, so i have to let the battery drain, and i plug it back up, and it will slide open to the emergency calls screen, and sometimes itll freeze and i have to restart the whole process over. Also, itunes wont recognize (when its froze) and sometimes says "itunes cannnot connect to iphone because" either a invalid response was recieved, or an error occured (OxE8000084) and as we speak, its been on the apple logo "booting" up for about 5 minutes. i really need some help. also, the top power button doesnt work, so cant turn it off or put into DFU.

Get a SIM from your carrier, insert it and then restore the device as new, i.e. without a backup.  That's the best you can do.  If it still doesn't work, I wouldn't waste anymore time/money on it.
For the error, see this... http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3221.  Also, Google the error for more info.

how do i reinstall mountain lion on fairly new machine i have really messed it up i have no key or original login do ihave to to pay

You never have to pay to reinstall a Mac's original OS. If that was Snow Leopard or earlier though, you need its original discs.
If the Mac was built after Lion was released, about August 2011, boot OS X Recovery - using two fingers hold the ⌘ and R keys while starting your Mac. When the Mac OS X Utilities screen appears, select "Reinstall Mac OS X".

  • I think I've really messed up... (Aspire 7739G)

So, recently my computer popped up with a "Get Windows 10" update. I went a head and upgraded and everything worked perfect. Yay, Windows 10! I decided I might as well do a reformat just so I could start from scratch and experience Windows 10 as a brand new user, except I discovered that wasn't the case. I'm now stuck in an endless loop with the error reading "INACESSABLE_BOOT_DEVICE" I am unable to access Windows at all, from my knowledge and upon checking the Acer website apparently my device isn't supported. I have school in a month, and I need to figure out a way to get Windows working again. Thank you for your time.

Probably something messed up during windows 10 reset, so it's better if you really format or better clean your HDD and re-install from the official image. if you want to try boot settings, press F12 at boot and select Windows boot manager or HDD and check if it boots.....if not something went wrong on partitions or file copy.

  • I think I've really messed up my strawberry iMac

I have an old strawberry iMac which was running on Mac OS 9 so I thought I would upgrade to Tiger (it's an old computer which I keep because it has some useful files etc on it). When I inserted the CD to upgrade it said that I needed to update my firm ware before I could install Tiger. I don't know what that means. Anyway now I can't get anything on the screen when it starts up. I've tried starting up with the software restart disc and holding down 'C' but that doesn't work. It makes all the sounds of starting up but I have a completely grey screen. This is a nightmare...aarrgh!!!!
Has anyone got a suggestion for what I should do (except chuck the **** thing out of the window)?
Any ideas will be gratefully received.

Hi, Smelly. I trust you're more appealing in real life than your username is.
A strawberry iMac can't run Tiger — the highest OS verson it can run is 10.3.9.
Just starting an early iMac up in OS X 10.2 or later without updating its firmware first can knock out its video — it isn't even necessary to install OS X on it for the problem to arise.
Read this User Tip carefully and follow its instructions to the letter.

Quick Question Regarding To Interesting Symbols Showing Up On My iPod
Posted: Jul 3, 2006 3:43 PM Reply Email
When I reset my iPod (40gb) the whole thing resets and I hear a lot of noise coming from it and when it hits the apple logo and immediately after that is a sad face. Shortly after that a small screen comes up with a battery charger bar that shows it about 25% completed, not charging and it usually stays like that unless i reset it again. The support page answers the deal with each one but not both. And I can't get my ipod into Disk Mode. Help?

If you're getting the sad iPod and you can't put it in disk mode, and you can't restore it, then yes, it looks as though the iPod has crashed. You can send your iPod out to a company to do diagnostics/repair on it, or you could even try to do the repair yourself by finding and purchasing the HDD for your iPod, and then installing it yourself (try www.ebay.com or www.ipodmods.com for the parts and tools).
www.ipodresq.com and www.ipodmods.com will usually do the repair for you, and probably at a considerably lower price than what Apple would charge (since they just send out a replacement iPod rather than actually fixing the one that you sent in).

Thanks man. I took ur advice and the advice of others, went back to the Apple store, had them test the hard drive. It failed. So i recycled it and got a black 30gb flat screen iPod with video and color with 10% for recycling and $30 off for being a college student. and then throw in the apple care for 2 years at 60 bucks. it came to like $315. Man is it sweeeeet.

  • Someone please help. I think I just messed something up really bad.

I wanted to change the name of my home folder so I proceeded to type this into the terminal wherein I wrote my old home folder name in place of "oldname" and my desired home folder name in place of "newshortname.": sudo mv /Users/oldname /Users/newshortname
I then logged out and logged back in to find my dock and background reset to the default, and most of my files missing (my applications remained because they are not stored in the home folder). I am extremely nervous that I just reset my computer, but I checked my disk utility app and it tells me that I have used
86.23 GB out of 319.21 total GB in my hard drive. Now, there is no way that I could have deleted all of the files in my home folder and still have around 85 GB of disk space used up. So my question is: how do I find my old home folder again so that I can access all of my files?

Go to system prefs and naviagte to accounts, then select your account and control click on that account, it should give you an advanced optiotn select it and point to your home folder in the home folder field.

  • I have been really messed up and defrauded by your employee. I have the email proof through this site, besides witness's.

I have a record of my email and post regarding my problems with Internet Explorer 11, with my Windows 7, not working and connecting to other sites not nearly working as well as Int. Explorer 10. I was just told by support since I didn't have a case number,
I had no proof. My email account in Microsoft is the same as with Verizon. So, I have proof on this site. Now, after I posted my complaint reg. Int. 11 not working nearly as well with my Windows 7. An employee from Microsoft took control of my computer for
the 2nd time without notice. I was SO VERY clear about wanting to go back from Int.Ex. 11 to Int.Ex.10. An employee actually restored by computer without me asking from 10 back to 11, after I had some issues with hackers. As stated in my emails to you, Int.
Exp. 11 never seemed to be very compatible in working with the add-ons and communicating to other sites. The guy who took over my laptop without permission, I thought was helping, ignored everything I asked for. I worked through the night and for about 10
hours with him. I had to make 16 backup/restore disks, per him doing all the actions through Homegroup. I didn't even know u could take over my computer controls without permission. He made changes after changes, while I mostly kept my hands off the keys throughout
the night and the day yest. I was just putting in disk after disk when it would pop out and he had the notice keep popping up, when he wanted me to change disks. I have not slept or ate for two days, cuz I kept working through hardcore stress. I didn't even
follow what changes he was making cuz it was going to fast with things popping up everywhere. I would just have to ender Adminstrator ID and enter a few items. I did not make an alteration, cuz I did not want to mess it up. He completely ignored my email/post
about consistently wanting to go from Int. Exp. 11 back to 10. I was so ill and tired, that I could barely keep up. After working with him, by just inserting disks mostly, I sent an email at the end to Microsoft saying that I don't think his repairs would
work. This due to many issues, but mainly still not getting the add-ons for my different drivers. I had Google Chrome, Bing and the Int. Exp. 11 I wanted reversed, cuz he still could not get all the add-ons to work, with red checks over them and saying disabled,
as long with other issues. I just kept having to put in my Adminstrator  passwords and he used my guest access as well, which I never use. I was so frustrated. NOT NEARLY AS UPSET AS A FEW-FIVE HOURS AGO, when I found it was worse than ever and the main
thing I complained about and asked for, Int. 11 going back to 10, did not happen at all. There was just Int. Exp. 11 and he even took off my Google Chrome. I had no idea that my computer could also look different with different users. Icons being larger and
in different places. It upset me horribly because I am ill cuz the stress I have been under and have not even ate since this began. I have proof via emails and also spent 10 hours following his lead. I had no idea, when I turned my laptop back on, it was NOT
ONLY NOT WORKING CORRECTLY, BUT HE KEPT Int. Exp. 11 and never made the change. There were so many pages up, I could not see what he was doing. It took me 16 disks to just copy all the stuff in the drive. I also used tried to use the small cards, when the
disks went way too fast. Now, my laptop is worse than even, with things saved all over my files, where I have no idea of what is what. He typed in the names to these backup files and I was too sick to keep up at all. I was so exhausted and sick at the end,
I was just glad he was done. Like I said, I sent an email while he was still working on the issues, to you saying that it does not look good at all and would probably not work. He closed the approx. 20 windows that were open quickly, when the last disk backed
up all the changes. I was feeling so horrible, I  had to just shut the laptop off and pray. Then, after resting for hours, I turn it on to find NO Int. Exp. 10 and still Int. Exp. 10. Many of the add-ons issues and a bunch of other things were worse than
even. I called in for help, he was pretty rude, cuz I was/am exhausted, sick & upset. My laptop is arranged differently and also does not function correctly. I could have just uninstalled 11 and installed 10, like I asked about in my email. My files even
said Int. Exp. 11 going to Int. Exp. 10. He ignored me and also left my computer way worse in other ways, with software uninstalled and items rearranged.  The guy who I spoke to a little while ago said I had no proof I even worked with him. Not only do
I have records of what was sent, I had people swing by and they saw what was going on. I was complaining to them how exhausted/sick I felt for being up so long w/o food, while feeling helpless. The guy I just spoke with gave me case #1278021415. My email sent
you guys while he still controlled my computer is through Microsoft. So, I am certainly not some crazy guy. I actually have been able to fix issues by hackers, etc., worse than this before. Now, my computer is way jacked, I need to work in a bit, and am so
sick over this. Plus, I will probably have to hire someone to reverse all this horrible damage done. I cant believe even the computer looked different under my Admin. name & guest name. So many issues that I did not have and he did not even listen to what
I wanted to change. I could have swithed 11 to 10, but I wanted to know the effect it would have on Windows 7 and docs, if any? I believe he worked on it so long, cuz he felt bad for going into my laptop the day before, without any notice, and restoring my
computer back from Int. Exp. 10 back to 11. He was trying to help, but I did not even ask for any at that time. Now, my computer is jacked, I don't really trust all the backups disk/files, cuz so many. I could tell he knew what was saved where though. He did
it all. I just was assisting, watching and trying to keep up with copying the info and putting in disks. Now, I am stuck with a messed up laptop and your tech wanted money from me, after your guy messed up my laptop bad, crazy things changed in 2 different
settings/names and I have been not able to eat or sleep now for two days cuz of this. Then, your guy questioned if I was telling the truth. I have lots of property and am successful. I just didn't feel I should pay a company for unauthorizingly changing and
breaking my stuff, while making me stressed and ill. I have 2-3 techs that handle issues, if I don't feel like dealing with them, but I actually know what to do on computers pretty well when not sick and rushed. I am no tech, but certainly no idiot. Its not
hard to see things were not going well with red warnings all over the place and saying add-ons were disabled with big red marks over them. I am sure your tech knew, that is why he closed it so fast. Why did he not even try to change what I asked in my email??
He completely ignored me and now I am ill and have a laptop way worse. Suppose to do some work in a bit, but I am so exhausted, hungry and back issues from all this typing leaning over (had X-rays a few weeks ago). I don't know what to do at this point off
exhaustion and also being questioned if I was making it up or something. I have witnesses and the email. My headed on email that I sent through Microsoft is I want to go from Int. Exp. 11 to Int. Expl. 10, cuz the add-ons don't work as well and I get booted
way more easily, or cant even reach other sites. I know it can be restored again, but it had issues before that I spend time and money fixing. I feel take advantage off and now blackmailed cuz your employee insisted that I pay for him just looking at the mess,
your other employee created. Just makes me more sick. I could trust Int. Exp. 11 to work and now I feel no trust and much deception by your company. I will probably be sick for days and I know my back is out again and I am cramping cuz no food and ALL stress.
I had an employee over watching me deal with all this happening, not friends, etc..  I saw he was using Homegroup and took down a few things. I knew it wasn't going well, but was in no shape to argue. Are you guys doing to do anything about this, or put
the blame on me for trusting your employees. I just asked a couple questions and complained. I never said anything about hacking into my computer and messing my life up. This just is not right at all. A laptop is a pretty cheap fix for me, but I did just pay
a guy over $200 to get things working well again cuz of hackers utilizing all the negative aspects about going onto some sites. I cant believe this happened. I cant believe this came from a large company, which I thought I could trust. Again, I have the email
I sent while he was stick backing up the changes. It took hours, literally for all those darn disks. What will you guys do about this, cuz I am too sick to do anything for a bit. I was in the hospital just a couple weeks ago, cuz of stress and issues of this
sort. Its so wrong!!  I want to give my info on here, but I am sure you will have it. The guy even said I didn't need to put my email address, I believe, or was it name, but I put it on my email sent anyway. I never lie!!  I look forward to your
response, C. York   Also, the email address I use is for Verizon and I would prefer if u just sent it there or both places. I don't even want to look at this thing for a while, but my anxiety over this will probably force me to. I wish I could put
in a phone number. Maybe I can somewhere, cuz I would like to know what you are thinking about all this. I know I got wronged, but I wish I knew who exactly. Like in my 2 email, while he was working, I saw "Hagan", I believe in response to a first
post. I responded and asked question after reading it. I noticed when I went to post in public a bit ago, that I had never done that before. Just sent email direct, especially the 2nd, in which I have confirmation from your company. Again, last guy gave me
case #1278021415. I thought I could trust your employee, so I did not get a bunch of info from him. I hope u know who was working on it, since he was when I emailed you. If you don't get my info somehow, please email me here, so we can communicate. I might
post this a few places or keep it to post. I am so upset and shocked. Thank you!  C. York

What I wound up doing was installing the newest of the newest versions of firefox (it's at 5.0 or something now, I think). That just made all the plugins, add-ons, and extensions I wanted to get rid of obsolete and it auto-removed them on its own.
I do really appreciate you taking the time out to try and offer some solutions though. Thank you very much for your effort!

  • I really messed up Mail, now how do I fix it?

    (Please pardon the long explanation)
    Where I was:
    PowerMac G4, running OSX 10.3.9, Mail 1.3.11
    All working well.
Burned a back-up DVD of my Mail Library and preference files.
    Where I went:
    MacPro G5, running OSX 10.5.8, Mail 3.6
    How I got there:
Started the brand new G5, ran through multiple updates, installed files from DVDs burned off the G4. From the back-up DVD, dragged the contents of the Mail Library folder and dropped them into the G5 folder Mail user's library. When a dialog box appeared, asking if I wanted to replace identically named folders, I clicked 'yes'. Dragged and dropped the preference files in the same manner. Internet access through Airport, and Safari work just fine, happily.
    What happened:
When I first opened Mail, a dialog box said it needed to input files from previous Mail or something, after about two minutes, it opened, showing the mailboxes from the previous Mail in the G4 (Yeah!). Within twenty seconds, an alert requesting the mail server password appeared, and ten seconds later, Mail crashed.
    Where I am now:
When I open Mail now, it opens showing no previous mailbox folders, then quickly the dialog box asking for a password appears, and seconds after, Mail crashes.
    What I think happened:
I most likely messed up by mixing old files into the new system. Looking at the Mail folder now, I have no idea what is corrupted and what is good. There are some duplicates by name. Deleting some of them hasn't helped.
    What I want to do:
Re-install a new Mail system, get it working, than input all my old mail from the G4 in some fashion.
I would like to have all my email from the last five years on the new system.
Questions: How can I fix the mess I have now? How can I get a fresh Mail system, and then transfer the previous emails from the G4?
    Thank you sincerely, Isshi.

    Isshi wrote:
    1) Can I import my previous signatures by dragging and dropping in the Signatures.plist file, or do I have to re-write all the old ones? The file in the new Mail is named SignaturesByAccount.plist so it's named differently.
    2) Can I import the previous address book somehow?
    3) How can I import the filter preferences?
    4) Do I really have to re-construct all the mail mailboxes in the new system (now they are nestled in the 'import' mailbox)?
Despite my earlier suggestion I'm not an expert in mail importing, so others will have to contribute their ideas on some of your questions. Here's what I can tell you regarding your first two questions:
    1) I'd avoid trying to use that Signatures.plist file. I agree that it seems to be organized differently from the earlier version.
    2) Address Book can import an "Address Book Archive". I'd go back to your 10.3.9 system (if you still have it) and see if you can create such a thing.

  • How can i remove my Photo Library ? i have two folders inside Photos which are Photo Library and Camera Roll, i can't remember how Photo Library got there but i wanna remove that folder and the photos inside + i really messed up

someone told me to try iFunbox and delete thumbs file from filesystem so i did and now i have the same pics but only thumbnails when i click on one of them its black screen.
mow after restarting my phone and syncing all photos and videos from camera roll are gone i think i messed up so bad and photo library folder looks so messy like a long black screen
can someone tell me what to do ? i don't wanna restore and lose all my apps/games
    thank you

    You cannot remove photo library.
It will always be there.  This is where all photos synced to iphone reside.
    Have you tried a reset?
If that fails, then you will likely need to restore.

  • After a month some good some bad. BB really messed up on some basic features we used to have

I've been a BB user since they were Blueberry's. I have to say the Q10 after a month of using it is seriously deficient in features compared to my Tour. I thought I was getting the best of the Tour but now with a decent sized screen. Boy was I wrong. So here's my assessment from a road warrior that uses his machine to take care of emails, contacts and access to hotel and airline websites. I don't play games, watch movies or use it as a pacifier like so many do.
1.) Link - Doesn't work on my system. BB support tried and tried but couldn't get it to work on my Lenovo/Windows 7. So I have no easy way to synch Outlook contacts, calendar etc... I think BB Desktop was a far superior interface as was BIS for setting email. I don't know why they had to go backwards on this and not transport the key parts into the new OS interface. It's only programmer/developer time to make it happen.
2.) Not ringing when holstered? C'mon that's a HUGE oversight. I'm a business man in constant travel meetings around the world. I always had the Tour set to vibrate in holster and ring out of it. Now I have to shut the Q10 off or fiddle through a bunch of screen taps. The not ring in holster setting is key for me. Having someone's phone go off (especially mine) in a meeting with me is a big no no. I hope that they can add this feature back in.
3.) Battery Life - Great as expected with a BB
4.) MP3 Player - Looks like I'll have to keep keeping track of another device to listen to my MP3's. Really, what's it take to have high quality MP3 audio?
5.) Screen and ergonomics - Awesome human interface engineering. Too bad the features and supporting expectations are still weak sauce.
6.) Websites Access - Fast 4G, nice screen=Happy with improvement over 3G small screen Tour
    7.) Call quality - Great
8.) Basic Operating descriptions - Maybe it's me but I couldn't locate how to make the center button between the volume rockers into a programmable hot key. I'd like that to be the Voice control so I can use it to initiate voice commands. There was no manual in the box and no instructions on where to go to get the user guide.  I found the guide via a link on this site.
Bottom line is that I'm going to keep it and hope that Blackberry actually reads some of these as they have no way to get feedback from their users. This is a basic flaw as well. I make my business better by listening to my customers and making my best effort to meet their expectations. It seems BB has gone the "Good enough" route. Maybe it's still early and there's hope.... That's my story and I'm sticking to it (for at least another 2 years).

    S, Interesting analysis!
I am a user very similar to you. Fortunately for me, I have hit none of the snags you describe and don't care too much about the drawbacks you cite. Whew!...guess I was lucky!
I am enamored with the Q10 because of the positives that you mention as well as numerous others that exist with the Q10.

  • Thumbnails in Aperture are Really Messed Up

Having a ton of trouble with both Aperture and iPhoto.  The thumbnails in both products are showing up in a random mix/match of landscape and portrait shots, and random order.  I've read the suggestions on this site, and have tried using both the Photos > Generate Thumbnails  and Photos > Generate Preview features.  Both temporarily fix the Thumbnails in the current view (ie the ones I can see), but as soon as I start to scroll, its back to a mess again.
It seems the next step is to rebuild the database ... but what I don't understand is WHY Aperture would ever be in this condition in the first place?  Rebuilding any database is not a small step to take.  And its not clear this would even solve the problem.  I mean, Aperture is worthless without a reliable thumbnail, so how is it possible for the product to show a thumbnail for one image when the actual image is something else.  This is about as basic as it gets!
In other words, it feels like a really heinous bug in the product, that is likely to resurface if I continue doing whatever I did to get here in the first place.
Anybody have some suggestions/explanations on why it would behave this way, and how to *permanently* fix the problem?  Thanks in advance!

    Try the following, in order:
    Reboot.
Delete your Aperture User Preferences (commonly helps for UI snafus).
    Repair your Library
    Rebuild your Library
Revert to a backed up copy of your Library.
The middle three are standard Apple Aperture trouble-shooting steps.  They are covered here.
If you wish to file a report with Apple, use "Aperture ▹ Provide Aperture Feedback".
These things happen.  The OS X environment is very complex.  I would fix it and forget it.  If the problem returns, you could start trying to trouble-shoot.  Trouble-shooting is laborious.
I have never had any problems with Repair Library or with Rebuild Library.
As with all computer files, you should never use one without having a complete back-up.
Are you using a second or third monitor?  Do you use any non-Apple display devices?
