I think I've fried my pentium g3258 @1.44v

I've been suffering from dual core bottleneck on my pentium g3258, with many tabs open in chrome I notice a slowdown, and playing back 1080p vp9 video in youtube which is software decode, I notice slight stuttering, something my cpu should be able to do easily.
Previously I had my cpu on a multiplier of 44 with automatic voltage which was at 1.34 however I had a faulty cooler master fan which was at max rpm all the time so kept the processor cool, since I had a working replacement with proper pwm, I could only get 4.3ghz with auto voltage. Since getting bsod after two weeks of stability, I thought I'd try attain better with a manual overclock and reached 4.4ghz with 1.35v, I had seen people claim successul overclocks with 1.45v, I increased the voltage incrementally to try to get stability at 4.5ghz using a 4k60 vp9 youtube video as my stress test. I was able to use the reset bios jumpers at the back of the motherboard, but this time, when I turn on the pc, my monitor briefly resumes from standby and then switches back off, nothing comes on screen, the cpu fan continues to run.
I am worried I've fried my chip, I'd prefer not to buy another one as I was hoping to wait for broadwell or skylake

oh, god...
you better test your g3258 with another platform to see if it is really get fried....

  • I think I just fried my Tungsten - Help

This is my first time and I looked at the different topic and did not see anything related to this topic.
Can someone tell me if I just fried my Tungsten?
Went to Sync with my laptop and pluged in my phone charger in the sync port.
    Yea I know.
I can not get the Tungsten to sync with either my laptop or desktop.
    Any ideas
    thanks

    Post relates to: Tungsten E

Oh! Now I understand... If the phone charger plugged into your TE just fine, you probably didn't damage it, as the TE's connector is a good ol' industry standard mini-USB connector, found on many devices. (e.g. cameras, *phones*, etc)
Go for a reset. Unless you intentionally do it, you should retain all data.
"When in doubt, reboot!" (except its 'reset' in this case)
A reset frequently remedies some HotSync problems.

  • I think iTunes 7 FRIED my Shuffle! Anyone else?

I installed the new iTunes 7.0 yesterday. This morning I plugged in my 512mb Shuffle, which has been running fine. It mounted in iTunes, and I was instructed to install new firmware which iTunes 7 automatically downloaded and installed on the Shuffle.
After that process finished, I decided to change the songs on the Shuffle, and Autofilled with a different playlist. Then I changed my mind and picked a different playlist.
During the second autofill process, the Shuffle disappeared from iTunes and also from the desktop. I got one of those "Device not properly removed" messages, although I hadn't touched or removed the Shuffle. I quit and restarted iTunes, I tried restarting the computer, I tried running the Disk Utility.
I pulled the Shuffle off and tried listening to it, but the lights on the front blinked orange and green which continued in a repeating pattern while I was pressing the play button.
I tested the USB port with a flash drive, which mounted properly. I tried plugging the Shuffle back in, but it did not mount at all, and the orange light is blinking continuously.
At this point the Shuffle won't mount on the desktop or in iTunes, and it won't play. Is it dead? Did the new firmware and iTunes 7 kill it?
Has this kind of thing happened to anyone else? Do you have any suggestions?
    iMac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.7)
    iMac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.7)
    iMac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.7)
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I followed Michael's advice and followed the instructions for resetting the Mac iPod Shuffle. I used a different USB port, too, which recognized a flash data drive instantly.
No luck. The "reset" didn't work. My Shuffle still won't mount anywhere on my computer. It won't appear in Disk Utility or in the USB Device Tree in "More about my Mac".
The Shuffle disappeared from iTunes and the Desktop in the middle of an Autofill. It was firmly plugged in and just sitting there when that happened. Right after that I got the "Device Removed Improperly" message.
The only thing different about my computer was iTunes 7 and the new Shuffle firmware it downloaded and installed.
Any other suggestions? Anyone else get this problem?
    Thanks to those who replied!

  • Ipod fried?

I plugged my ipod into a car charger adapter and after a few seconds it got really hot and smelled like it was burning. I unplugged it and now my ipod nano is not turning on or doing anything. I think it is fried. This adapter is specifically for ipod and was purchased from the apple store two weeks ago when I bought my ipod. Why did this happen?

Sounds like the ipod is indeed fried. Was it a third-party charger? The Monster iCarGo have had similar issues, although mine has never given me any trouble. I would contact the manufacturer of the charger because it definitely sounds like the culprit.

  • B85-G43 OC problems on G3258

    Hello everyone,
I just bought my MSI B85-G43 mobo and Intel pentium G3258 processor and im not able to oc it? I have updated bios v.3.8 and multipler option in Bios is still blocked on x32, cant increase it : (
It is any solution to help me with it?
Sorry for my bad english btw.

I wonder how it is with stability, as simple running is not enough
Get intel burn test run few times (5 enough) on max threads, then Prime95 for 6h or more (more for best answer about "OC") and then feed back about it
Quite surprised it works, but then this Pentium is simple unlocked version of the old one, so that might be the case it works? Nothing improved but unlocked it..
Anyways enjoy, maybe it will work fine so you don't have to bother with Z series board

  • New rig won't start with 2 x 8gb ram kit

I just started my first rig up last night.  I have a MSI Z97 PC Mate and a Pentium G3258.  RAM is GSkill Tridentx DDR3 1600 2x8GB.  The system starts up fine with one 8GB stick in the #2 DIMM slot, but when I add the other 8GB stick to the #4 slot the system wont boot.  Both sticks work in the #2 slot.  It also didn't boot when I tried each stick in the #4 DIMM slot.  Hoping its not a bad slot.  Any ideas would be great.

Cool.  Thanks.  I just removed the motherboard and inspected it with a magnifying glass.  I couldn't see any scratches or bent pins or any apparent damage.  But that's also me looking , and I don't know exactly what to look for.  I put it all back together and am having the same problem.  I think I've exhausted all suggestions now.
can you get me a picture of the CPU socket pins for me to look at? (get it at a mild angle and in a bright light at an as big as you can resolution?

  • Different issues on Satellite T130

Hi all - firstly, newbie alert. Just registered. First post. Be gentle....
Bought a T130 off eBay. Worked ok initially with general browsing & stuff.
One day tried to open the Userguide pdf & everything started going VERY slow.
Eventually it opened. Smelt a rat. Started Adobe reader on it's own - VERY slow. I think corrupt Reader.
Try to uninstall - this does not go well.
Everything glacial - eventaully popup saying "management console has stopped working" (or similar). Now I'm worried.
Lots of disk activity - maybe disk is bad, maybe fragemented.
I defrag - it's fine. I run chkdsk - it's slow, but completes (fixed a few minor things - probably bcos I had to power unit off without shutdown).
At one point it won't even boot & forces a shutdown. I think I'm fried, but when I power it up again it boots up ok... WTF???
I've found some other posts & Google searches which suggest OS corruption, & this sounds like the case to me.
But this is a notebook - I don't have Windows 7 install media.
There is no recovery partition setup (that I can see). So how do I reinstall the OS??
Hope someone can help me here.
My first experience with Toshiba laptops has not been pleasant....
    thanks
    Steve

    Hi
I think the system is corrupt and the OS should be installed again. (as suggested by your own).
You didnt get any recovery disks because there was an option which would allows you to create an own recovery disk!
Try to boot the notebook again and check if the Toshiba recovery disk creator is installed and if you would be able to create a recovery disk.
If this is not possible, then you will need to order a right recovery disk from here:

  • IPod touch will not turn on/ restart

I have a 4th generation iPod touch and it is about 2 years old. I left my house today with it working perfectly and now it is just a black screen. It will not turn on and I have tried to do the "restart" by holding down the home and power button. I have had it plugged in for 2 hours now and it still will not do anything! I also tried plugging it into my laptop but my Itunes/computer will not even reconize it! I would really appreciate the help if there is anything anyone thinks I can try at home to get it work again, I really don't want to think it's "fried" seeing as all my pictures and music is on it, please help!!

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer

  • Can't get bios to start

    Hi
I have a problem. I didn't realize what i was getting into when I bought the parts for my PC. I have had no prior experience with computers, but i wanted to get a new one, and my fried said it was alot cheaper to make one than to buy one from HP or Dell. I ordered all these items from NewEgg.com
Rosewill ATX Case with 400W Power Supply and Side Window (Black), Model "TU-155"
Western Digital 160GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive, Model WD1600JD
Corsair Value Select (Dual Pack) 184 Pin 512MBx2 DDR PC-3200 -
MSI "K8T NEO2-F" VIA K8T800 Pro Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket 939 CPU
    AMD Athlon 64 3500+, 512K, L2 Cache, Socket 939 Windows Compatible 64-bit Processor
MSI nVIDIA GeForce FX 5900XT Video Card, 128MB DDR, DVI/VIVO, 8X AGP, Model "FX5900XT-VTD128"
Now I thought hey why don't I take a shot at putting it together, how hard could it be?
Well, I put everything where it should be, but I screwed the mother board into the case, without any brackets. So I started it up a couple of times and the cpu fan and the case fan would go on for half a second then shut off. I brought it to my friends house, and we re-plugged everything and started it up again, this time it gave off a sharp smell. i couldn't tell what it was coming from. Then we realized i was an idiot and didn't put in brackets underneath the mobo. So we did that and and put everythign back in place and started it up again. this time the cpu fan and case fan worked. Then we plugged it into a monitor, but nothign would show up. just a black screen. We also noticed that the fan on the heatsink of the video card started to work for half a second then stoped . We cleared the CMOS and took out that little battery thing in the mobo, and put it back. Still nothign showing up on the screen. the lights in the back of the computer lit up like 1  2
3  4 with the 4th one clear and the manuel said it was Initializing the Video Interface. However we waited a long time, and it still said the same thing with the 4 lights.
Also another perculiar thing was that when we pluged in the power supply cable, it would automatically turn on without me having to push the power button on the front of the case, and im sure we wired them right (after 13 times).
I also took out everythign and just tried to power my mobo, cpu, ram, and video card, but when i did the video card fan did the same thing.  He thinks that i fried my mobo when i was turning it on and off with the mobo touching the steel case.
Any ideas? i think all my parts are compatible
*sigh* sorry if i am an idiot and didn't post enough info
    edit power supply has at 3.3v - 28 a       5 v - 40 a           12v - 17 a
also i just looked at the compatibility test items, and i couldn't find the video card or the memory on the list. Does this mean they don't work on this motherboard?

Any thoughts, ideas and remedies from anyone here (Achung/Tiresmoke, etc) would be useful and appreciated.
    Other specs as below.
Hi. Did you have any problem when you installed the Corsair memorys on the motherboard and then starting your computer? in what slots do you installing the memorys in, i have the same memory but i haven´t try to start my computer yet because i have a problem with my bios and i must first try to reset the bios with the jbat1 jumpers on the board, it because i cant getting my videocard to work at all on this board, i only get a blank screen and it says on the screen: invalid sync and nothing more happend, i must get the monitor to display information before i can get into the bios by pressing Delete button on my keyboard, did you have the same problems as me? My system is brand new and i havent run it yet.

  • Need help getting my iMac to boot to main screen

Last night while I was using my iMac, we had some serious rain and all of a sudden the power went out. Then it went back on, and then off again. The mac was off and I figured give it a rest?
Went back to restart today and I can't get past the apple logo with the spinning gadget under it. I tried loading the OSX CD and holding down the "C" key to run from the OS but its still the same.
Anyone have any ideas on how I can jump-start her, or do you think something is fried? I don't know what could be because the display lights up, the "tada" plays, the apple graphic comes up... but then its sort of just sitting there.
Any/all ideas are appreciated. At this point when I boot the machine with the OS X CD in,it goes like this:
    1. Tada sound
    2. Screen lights up
    3. Apple logo appears
    4. Segmented spinner starts going under the Apple logo
If the OSX disk is in the drive, and I hold down the C key...
    5. The screen turns blue
    6. Then the starfield appears
    7. The OSX menu appears in the middle with the choice of language
    8. I select continue and the menu bar appears across the top of the screen
    9. In the center of the screen there is a box with icons and a continue button
    10. I select continue and the menu switches to a screen asking me if I want to install the disc's OSX version
Note that I have tried to boot by selecting the "Startup Disk" from the top bar menu and that only seems to send me back to #7. Clicking continue brings up a new window where I have three "choices" the first (Install OSX on existing HDD) of which is greyed out and can't be clicked because the version on the HDD is newer than the CD version. Next it seems that I'm being prompted to take the second option; that is to Archive and install OSX while preserving users and network settings. The third option is one I'd like to avoid; that's where you erase and install... completely erases destination volumne and installs a new copy of OSX. At the bottom of these three selections is an "OK" button.
So I'm now wondering what the 2nd option really does. Will it simply replace the OS X with the CD version and leave all my apps and data alone?
BTW, I have done the PRAM reset deal but that didn't seem to do anything.
Thanks again for the help folks. I do appreciate it.
    Mike

So even though I can get the starfield screen, a menu bar, and the window to install the operating system... the motherboard could be fried? That would stink, and I'm still wondering how, if something on the motherboard is cooked, its prompting me to reinstall the OS?
I'll try the shift key and see if that helps. Another person has suggested I take it to an Apple store and have them install the OS as they could do all the updates in minutes while it'll take me a few hours starting from scratch.

  • Hardware to avoid when using iTunes 10

My computer died, and now... I'm not blaming it on iTunes 10, but it feels like I burned it out (the tech guys tell me the capacitors overloaded and blew, leaking this... red powder). It was a Pentium IV equipped comp with 1 GB attached. I've been browsing second-hand computer stores, my budget is a little... non-existent these days. I'm tempted to just buy another Pentium IV, the comp-techs say I should be able to take the RAM in my old comp and plug it into the new one. This would be around 170$ taxes included.
But I don't want to just get another old computer that's going to go and die on my within 3 months. They also offered me a duo-core for 300$ (taxes included). I know the smartest thing to do in my current financial situation is to buy nothing, but living with no computer is hard!
So what do you guys think, a 3.0 GHz, pentium IV, 2 GB RAM, Windows XP Home. Can it handle iTunes 10?

    Katrina S. wrote:
Still broke from buying the ipad, are ya? winky
YES. For the first time since I've owned the **** thing I admit it: I regret the purchase. I bought myself a dual-core Acer with 3 GB of RAM backing it up, and it STILL doesn't work right. I have given up on it. The iPad is cursed or something.
You should also ask them if the old PC's hard drive can be put in an external hard drive enclosure. Otherwise you are going to be syncing your iPad with a blank itunes library and it will wipe it clean. Or buy a 3rd-party ipad manager program that will get everything off the ipad onto the new PC's hard drive.
Oh don't worry... I can sense beforehand when a computer is trying to screw me over, lol. I put all my media and iTunes Library on an E-HD before my computer kicked the bucket.
    Also,
I'm marking this thread as answered, the answer I've found? There is NO hardware that will work properly. iTunes working properly in any way is a myth so far as I'm concerned.
