I think i wiped out my library!!

help! i think i wiped out my iTunes library when trying to make space on my very old MacBook! No laughs please!!!

You don't see a bunch of files and folders in an iTunes folder in your Music folder?
Pull it back out of the trash.  Restore it from a backup.  There's not much we can do without you being proactive and telling us what you did and what resources you have.

Call the apple store you got it from and ask them. Sometimes in the past they've extended the 'no questions asked return' but only Apple can tell you for sure.

How exactly did this happen? Were you using separate iTunes libraries on separate user accounts on the laptop?

  • Please help! I think I wiped out 7 years of calendar entries!

Thanks for your time!  I have been keeping very detailed notes day to day for the past seven plus years.  Lately, I've done most of my entries right on my Laptop (Macbook Pro - OS 10.4.11.)
My Palm Tungsten T2 would NOT charge more than 1/4 of the way after many hours. I did a hard reset and wiped out all my data on the handheld.
When I went to Hot sync, it kept saying "identifying user."  Then it would NOT sync.  I played with the conduit settings - but had no luck making it work.
That's when I did something very foolish.
I set just the calendar conduit setting (the most important one to me) to:
    "handheld over rides MacIntosh"
    Bad idea.
Since the handheld was blank, it wiped out my Calendar on the laptop.
    (Noooooo!!!!!)
Please tell me there is SOME kind of back-up of some sort.
    Thank you so much.
    Michael
    Post relates to: Tungsten T2

If this is an iCloud calendar, and the calendar entries were still on your iPhone when you last backed it up to iCloud, it may be possible to restore them from the iCloud backup.  Doing this is a bit tricky, and you'll have to follow the process outlined here to do so: Recovering deleted iCloud contacts from an iCloud backup.  This was written as a process to restore contacts, but the process is the same for iCloud calendars (just substitute calendars for contacts).

  • Upgrade and restore wiped out my library!!!!

Recently my iPod has been acting a little weird (freezing and not synching properly) so I thought I would restore it to its original settings. I had just upgraded to the latest and greatest iTunes and everything was working just fine. I hooked up my iPod, pressed restore and went to bed. In the morning it said OK to disconnect, so I did. I went outside and plugged it into the car and started looking for the album I wanted to listen to. Nothing was there, only one TV show. I went back inside and looked at iTunes to see if there was an error screen I missed. There was. It said, "100 errors" I looked at each one and it was the same, "could not locate song." I opened explorer and tried to jump on my external music drive, but it would not open. I get an error that says, "Drive not formatted, would you like to format now?" I had over 75 gigs of music on that drive, where did it all go????? It was there before I upgraded iTunes and restored my iPod. What the deuce!?!?!?

    I'd be freaking out!
Then I would shut down my PC and my external HD, and start them back up.
Does Windows still think that exHD needs formatting when you start it back up?

  • Rebuild thumbs option wiped out my library

iPhoto suggested that I should rebuild my thumbs as it does from time to time. I have done it in the past and had no problems. This time after I hit rebuild it erased my library (8,700 photos). The photos are all still in the folders, but nothing is appearing in iPhoto. Subsequent attempts to rebuild have been unsuccessful. I also attempted to import photos, but I received an error message stating that "The following file could not be imported. (The photo is in the iPhoto Library folder)" Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
The photo is in the iPhoto Library folder)
That's why you can't import into the library as iPhoto will not import any file that's located within the iPhoto Library folder.
It seems that you're database file, Library6.iPhoto, has been corrupted. Unless you have a recent copy of it you'll have to start over with a new library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the rolls from the original.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same rolls as the original library. However dates on the rolls may be different but can be edited as you would the roll title.
Once this is completed you can delete the Originals folder from the desktop and the iPhoto Llibrary folder. If desired, you can keep the older library folder to try other fixes on it.
In the future I recommend you make a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto file after each import and after doing a lot of editing and organizing in the library. Then if you experience a similar crash all you need to do is replace the damaged database file with the backup copy and you'll be back to the same place in the library as when you make the backup. See the tip at the end of my signature.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • 7.6.1 wiped out my library

Just upgraded (as i have many times before), but this time, the upgrade wiped everything off my PC. Any ideas how to go "back"? Or, how to retrieve what was lost?

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? It may be of some help: No content shows up in iTunes after updating
You could also try holding down the Shift key in Windows when launching iTunes. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to an existing one. The default location for your iTunes library is in \Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\. Look in there and see if you have more than one library file (they have the extension .itl) If you have more than one try opening them in turn, you may find your original library is still intact: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file

  • Woke up to a blue screen computer.  Had to wipe everything off.  Now cannot transfer my purchases to my iphone without wiping out my library on my phone.  is this correct?

    Heellloooooooooooooooooo..............................................

    Restore that backup you made?
You should be able to recover the media with the tips in  this post from forum regular Zevoneer but I'm not sure what the implications are for your application settings. You can probably transfer your purchases into a newly authorised library, backup the device, recover any other media using third party tools, then restore the device from the backup. That might switch the assocation of the device to the new machine but I couldn't say for sure.

  • Virus wiped out my library. Left an empty 1 called "managers Limeware tunes

I assume a virus did this in spite of Norton AV.
I want to make sure this is gone before I restore.
I changed the sharing settings so nothing is shared. That's the way it was before this occurred.
What do I need to do to restore my library from my backup?
Do I need to remove and reinstall iTunes?
    Thanks
    Mike

We should all learn a lesson from this post. We should make back ups of our back-ups. I know it takes extra time, but you are able to recover should something go wrong. Put your backups on a thumb drive or better yet make 2 copies of your backups

  • After sending my ipod back to apple they sent me a replacement which when connected to i tunes wiped out my library, do i just delete itunes then reinstall? but how do i keep purchases?

i sent my ipod back to apple with a duff battery. Apple, instead of returning original ipod with new battery actually sent me a new ipod with different serial number which then totally corrupted my itunes because i didn't know, i then wrecked it some more by trying to hook up a new iphone before i found i cannot have more than 1 itunes account on the same PC!!!   HELP.

Check this support document for SIM issues http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4148. No one here is Apple, we are users like you. We can only recommend you try Apple again, unless you are close to an Apple store and can make an appointment to go in there.

  • ITunes forced an update an wiped out my library

I was able to retrieve my music and movies by "adding folder" where my iTunes is kept, but now my apps are gone.  How can I get them back?

I know what you are talking about but I mean like the literal music... like your mp3 files or whatever format you use...
P.S. to prevent this problem in the future I would turn off "open itunes when this ipod is connected" so when you plug in your ipod, itunes isn't opened and something like this won't happen again.

  • Itunes 11.1.5 crash, wiped out library and now not opening files

Itunes 11.1.5 crashed on my Mac OSX 7.5, wiping out my Itunes library and playlists. I have the albums on my hard drive but can't even open them with Itunes now (I can open them with other programs). I've tried redownloading Itunes thinking that somehow the program was damaged, but same problem with the fresh download. I have my playlists etc on my Ipod but don't want to do connect it until I'm sure that Itunes is functioning correctly- am reluctant to risk losing the data on my Ipod too.
What's wrong with Itunes that I can't open or add any files? And once that is fixed, is there any way of recovering my past library and playlists? Or if not, how do I safely transfer my Ipod's data to Itunes? It is not all Itunes purchases.

Okay, an update. Weird. I tried importing a cd into Itunes, and not only did that work, but when it was completed all the music from my hard drive's Itunes media library appeared in Itunes too. Not the playlists, but at least the albums. Odd, since for hours this morning I couldn't import even a single song. Assuming I have to manually recreate the playlists, that there's no easy way to recover those. At least Itunes appears to otherwise be functioning tho.

recently, when syncing my iPhone I transferred iPhone purchases to my library.  Apparently I hit the wrong button and wiped out my old iTunes library on my PC.  How do I get it back?

I cant find any of my recently bought songs or the apps i have purchased. When I was updating my ipod there was a button that asked about transfering purchases and I didnt read it, and I didnt update manually so i think thats why i lost everything. I clicked on the intrustions and clicked on apps and i coulnt find any of my old stuff.
