I think it was a bad idea switching from ATT to Verizon

So we have been a Verizon customer for 6 days. I started looking into the online billing for my account.
Right off the bat we owe $259.47 without doing anything.
So I look into the billing details. OK so they prorate some expected usage...whatever.
It's the equipment charges that concern me, A LOT, with this "Edge" program.
It's simple math.
We purchased three phones, but I will focus on one of the Samsung Galaxy 5s devices for sake of discussion.
The price tag at Best Buy said $299 with new plan activation.  Great.  Let's just say $300 to make the math easy.  Again, just to note we were switching from being LONG TIME AT&T customers to Verizon for the first time.
I digress. When I look at the equipment charges, the Edge balance (six days in mind you) is $569.81.  Simple math tells me that $300 does not equal $569.81. So I'm paying way more over the span of 20 months than what the phone was actually priced for at the store. Better yet, the first installment of the 20 installments is $30.81.  So let's see $30.81 x 20 = $616.20.  So I will be paying DOUBLE over the span of 20 months over what the device is actually worth.
WHY?
I have this problem x 3 phones.
Would have been cheaper to just buy the phones for $299 and not done the Edge plan.  This isn't much of a deal at all.
Looks like we need to cancel and go back to AT&T ASAP.  This edge program is a huge ripoff.

The prices at Best Buy are not honored at Verizon Wireless.
The Edge Program takes the full price of the devices not any discounted prices.
That would be why you are seeing what you are seeing on your online account details.
Add in taxes and administrative fees per line, insurance if you have it, prorated service and the month in advance makes your invoice higher on the first invoice.
After that you pay the price of your plan plus taxes and fees and that $30.81 per device.

Good Luck

  • I am looking to switch from ATT to Verizon on iPhone 5 but have Questions ???

Ok at this point I can read a ton of stuff on here about the differences in signal performance in different areas and things like that but. I am Also curius about functionality. I am constantly on my phone and using apps on it at the same time. besides that is there any other maybe quirky but maybe not differences between the 2 ? does anyone have any information that would possibly change my mind to stay on ATT or is it a go. The reason I ask is i get a new discount through Verizon and would like to save the money.

Besides the problems that you cite is your iPhone 5 locked to AT&T?

  • Switched from Brighthouse to Verizon

Hi, I just switched from Brighthouse to Verizon & my computer is online but my husband's isn't.  Verizon said I needed to change the ESSID # but can't figure out how to do that.  I think we are connected by wireless but aren't positive.  We are using WRT54 GS-7.0.  It's a wireless router.  My husband's linksys says it is connected but can't find an internet connection.  Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.  Hope I made sense.  Thank You.

Actually it was something really simple.  Just had to wind up hooking the cable up to his computer, couldn't be wireless no more.  Verizon & Linksys made it sound so complicated telling me that we could try this or try that but there was a 50% chance he would never be able to have internet capability again if it didn't work.  Didn't want to take that chance so decided to ask this forum.  Thanks for your suggestion, didn't really understand what you meant so we just played around with it & finally got it.  Thanks again for trying to help.  Laurel

    Hi adamsfly,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like you changed your email address and iCloud is looking to sign in with the old Apple ID email. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • Switched from AOL to Verizon Yahoo DSL

I have switched my internet access from AOL to Verizon Yahoo. I now can not see my i-Tunes songs on the music store when I browse for music.

Did you see the notice on the main Music Support page that state v4.9 iTunes or above is required?
If you have current iTunes software, call Verizon Yahoo and ask how to set your connection up to allow iTunes.

  • Switching iPhone 4s from ATT to Verizon in Santa Fe, NM

    Hi All,
From the subject line: I am currently living in Washington DC and ATT service is reasonably good.  In Santa Fe, NM where I am moving, ATT has awful service and Verizon has a much better reputation.  I am considering switching upon my move.  What are the significant differences between ATT and Verizon on the iPhone?  I understand that data network access and phone calls cannot happen simultaneously. Not a situation I usually encounter.   Are there any other significant differences that I should know about?
    Thanks.....

At some point will I be asked to set up the phone as a Verizon device (I am porting my number from AT&T)? Or does iTunes/Apple read the serial number of my phone and "know" it is a Verizon unit tied to my specific number? How exactly does this step work?
The phone will come with activation instructions. The activation servers will "know" what carrier the phone belongs to. You will probably have to call an 800 number to finish accepting the contract.
Did you specify in the ordering process that you wanted to port over your AT&T number? If yes, the phone will be activated with your number. The port process usually takes about 5-30 minutes. During that time, you can make outgoing calls from either phone but only your AT&T phone will ring. Once the port process is complete, you'll get a text on your Verizon phone. At that point, the AT&T phone will no longer be connected to your number.
If you didn't request the port, you'll need to call customer service.
Yes, you MUST leave your AT&T account active until the port process is complete or you will lose your number.
    Best of luck.

  • I switched to mac from PC and I'm not thinking it was a great idea....

I made the switch. I tiptoed into the mac world and bought a G5 Dual 2.0 w/ 2.5 RAM, etc... with Leopard 10.5.6 and all I get are kernal drops, loud fans in sleep mode, crashes, and circles of death. I really bought this G5 to do my Pro Tools and record music. I am a staff songwriter and I need this system to run without having to take it to the store every two days. My old Dell laptop still runs error free. I have taken to G5 to the Mac store where I bought it twice now (the first one had a bad logic board so they built me another one exactly the same)-and boy is it ever the same - *****! I've heard for years how Mac is more stable than PC and I want to believe it!! My foray into Mac has thus far been way less than desireable. If I can't get the MacStore where I bought it to get it running correctly, how am I supposed to. Maybe I am doing something wrong but I'm new at Mac and don't know but it shouldn't be this difficult - PC wasn't.

I'd suggest also using the Console app that's in /Applications/Utilities/ to check for any log files related to the kernel panics. The panic logs are accessible under /Library/Logs/PanicReporter and are named with a timestamp.
If you want to post some of these logs here, we might be able to help decipher them.
Did you install Leopard over the existing install, or did you do a clean install (erase the disk, then install the OS)? If you installed over the existing OS, and either it had corrupt files or disk errors, you may have made things worse.
Do you have any hardware connected to the computer other than a mouse, keyboard, and monitor?

  • Up grading to firefox 4 was a bad idea, my sistem wont suport it it is 10.4.11

  • Integrating with Microsoft Office was a BAD IDEA.

Oracle made the decision to violate one of the cardinal rules of software development:
Do not integrate with a product if you are using in a way other than it was intended.
Of course, one can use software beyond it's purpose (unless of course it's a Microsoft product) but fully reliant integration?!!!
First of all, there is no well-defined boundary between MS Word functionality that translates to meaningful template-building functionality and that which does not. Therefore it is not helpful to use this 'familiar product' to build templates, because you run into roadblocks at every turn. There is no way to know a priori which functions will help build your template and which are just for word processing. It's more confusing than the familiarity is worth. Frankly, it's just lazyness on Oracle's part, to avoid making a real template builder. (The new online template builder kinda sucks, especially when you have more than a handful of columns.)
This selective, unpredictable support of Microsoft functionality is reflected in the fact that OBIEE 11g DOES NOT SUPPORT INTERNET EXPLORER 8 on Windows XP!
Like Microsoft, Oracle has adopted the philosophy that its users shall not be able to do anything innovative, creative, or interesting that was not expressly intended during their requirements-gathering phase. Furthermore, much of the interesting functionality barely works as it is. The Oracle-Microsoft alliance is an untrustworthy one, and is bad for Oracle.

  • Do you think it is a bad idea to purchase macbook pro 2012 edition?

Compare the old version and the new version this year. The 13 inch macbook pro is a big different, thinner and lighter and faster. I feel so dump with this heavy computer.

Any new ones are likley to be this month. Therefore buy from an Apple Store and if a new one comes out you have the option to take it back and exchange it within 30 days. I'm in the same boat at the moment and I don't know if to jump because I like the idea of being able to upgrade my own memory and hard drive but I'm not sure they may change the next model to be thinner and DVD driveless and therefore potentially making it non-upgradable like the retina model.
If you want the Pro model for the ease of upgrading it may be worth buying now with the knowledge that you're likley to be able to take it back if they bring a better one out that's still upgradable.

  • Switching from ATT to VZ

Does VZ has any promotions or incentives for ATT customers to switch to VZ? I have 6 months left on ATT contract and was thinking of switching but need to see if it is worth it... Please advise

I see Verizon has recently added a new tier to their Share Everything plan. It includes unlimited talk/text with 250 MB of data/month for $20/month. This added with a basic phone access fee would put the monthly fee to $50/month for unlimited talk/text on a basic phone and 250 MB of data/month.
For those with basic phones, it is an improvement over previous Share Everything plans. With multiple basic phones, it is even more attractive. For example 3 basic phones would be $110/month(3 x $30 access fee + $20/month for unlimited talk/text and 250 MB of shared data).
Now, if Verizon will only drop the price on their higher tiers of data!!!

  • Switched from ATT Bold to Verizon Tour

Does anyone know how many speakers does Tour have? Of course the rep @ verizon was happy to get me, he immediately told me that Tour is upgrade from Bold. So far I do not think so.
    Bold had Wi-fi, Tour doesn't
Bold's speakers were so much louder, I am not even sure Tour has 2 speakers
Bold had a solid steel feeling, Tour is light but plastic
Also I heard Tour has faster processor? is that true? Cause it freezes sometime while I am navigting sometimes.
    Any comments are sincerely appreciated
    Thank you

    Correct, the Bold 9000 -  (624Mhz)
    Tour –  (528Mhz)
But the Tour really is just as snappy as the Bold, I think... the newer processor is the Qualcomm processor and it is no 2nd rate chip.

  • HP officejet Pro 8500A - problem with wireless setup switching from ATT Uverse to Verizon FiOS

I had this all-in-one printer set up and working on wireless through ATT Uverse router in one city.  just moved to another city and got Verizon FiOS.  Now when I try to set up the wireless connection, the printer will connect to the router, but my computer cannot locate the printer.  It gave a 169 IP address which doesn't seem right.  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer software on my computer, but when going through setup on the computer, it can't find the printer automatically or by me typing in the IP address it shows on the printer.  Not sure what I have done wrong.
    This question was solved.
