I think my computer broke...

So my family's HP Pavillion a1610n has been giving us some trouble lately. It would continually freeze while we were using it. The internet would freeze a lot which would cause us to either have to restart the internet or it would even make us have to reboot the computer entirely. It was getting pretty annoying after a while, but we just kinda of dealt with it. While I was using the computer this morning, I had the internet open, my ducuments open and I had some music playing on it. This is nothing out of the ordinary because usually when any of us are on it we have at least 2 or 3 windows opened. The internet froze on me, and I kept getting the report internet error thing popping up. I would report the problem, but the internet page itself would not close. This wasn't that big of a deal because its done that in the past where although the system says the page isn't opened it really isn't just it's not working. So I was just using My Documents and iTunes at this point. Oddly, I was receiving the Report Error thing that I would normally get for to close downt he internet. However, it was telling me to report an error for My Documents. Eventually the entire system froze and wouldn't allow me to click anything or open/close anything so I just rebooted it like we normally do when this sort of problem occurs.
When the computer went to restart we got the black screen that states that there was a problem when you last shut down your computer and asks if you would like to restart in safe mode, normally, or go back to the last successful configuration. I tried every option on this screen but the computer would not reload. The monitor kept going to sleep and this same screen would pop up.
Any ideas as to what we can do to try and fix this?

i had the same problem with my laptop.... the only fix i found was resoring and reinstalling window on it.

I think I understand your situation. Your iPod actually has a copy of all the music files that are on your old system (it is what you listen to). There are utilities that allow a computer to read the iPod into your new computer. I have purchased and used one, but that was over a year ago. So go find a utility that allows you new computer to upload all of your iPod files. You should be fine.
In the worst case, a local computer shop can usually mount your old system's hard drive and copy your iTunes folder to a CD or a DVD. You could then import this into your new system, sans ratings, playlists, etc.

I have an Ipod Touch 4G. My computer broke. I now have a new computer . I have NO access to old computer. The itunes on my new computer recognises by Ipod but not the music content already on my ipod. This means it does not show the content in the library on itunes any more. The content on my ipod is not purchased from itunes store. Can i get it to show up in the `new` library? Is this also preventing me from downloading new items into my ipod - as i can download new discs into the library, but they will not load into the ipod. Your help would be appreciated - cant bear another sleepless night. Thank you

I dont know how helpful this will be but here we go:
try syncing your ipod again
do you still have these cds? try reburning them to you library
restart itunes
restart the computer
hardware reset ipod touch
Heres how to do this
Hold down power and home button at the same time until the screen goes black, ignore the slide to power off arrow
Idevice will now restart on its own, this might take longer then when waking it from shut down
6. now try step 1 again
note: try any of these ideas they are not a set order of instructions

Does the old hard drive still work? You can buy an external hard drive case and transfer data to your new Macbook Pro and recover your itunes libary. As far as i'm aware, Apple have not created software or allow you to move music from ipod to Mac.

Make a backup of your stuff (from the phone. apps/photos/music/blabla). Update your phone. The phone will restore the backup automatically.

Thanks for your reply, Niel. Basically, I can log in into my wife's computer, log in and download new music I purchased or from a CD into my ipad/iphone/ipod with out a problem since is one of my 5 authorize computers? Sorry for being so inquisitive but I'm not the best when it comes to itunes.

If they aren't purchased from iTunes, then you are going to have to find them and download them onto your computer and back into your iTunes library.
You can turn off photo syncing, and import the ones from your phone onto your computer.

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the library.

You buy one download and one download only, it is your responsibility to backup your music.
it has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer. Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod: File>Transfer Purchases

Unless you subscribe to iTunes Match , Apple does not keep a backup of your iTunes library. Even then it is not the library as it exists on your computer, but some version of the media, and only media files, not playlists. Even then not all media are definitely available since anything removed from the iTunes Store since you purchased it is not available for re-download.

In your case it sounds like you will have to obtain non iTunes purchases from their original source or a backup you may have made at some time in the past.

The music sync is one way - computer to iphone. The only exception is itunes purchases. Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases

Unfortunely, all movies and songs purchased in iTunes will be lost...you'll have to purchase them again! Any applications you've purchased, you can download again for free.
