  • Smashed my keyboard, the screen went weird, I think my computer is broken.

I accidentally smashed my keyboard with a lot of pressure and the screen went striped with a steady beeping sound. I closed the lid and unplugged the charger and that was when the beeping stopped.
I'm too afraid to open my computer again in fear that I might lose the data on my computer, so I'm not sure if it's broken or not.
    What should I do?

I don't know how you accidentally smash a keyboard with a lot of pressure, but obviously that's the wrong thing to do with sensitive electronics. There's no way to know exactly what you broke. The motherboard is under there for one thing. As for your data, if it's a classic style MBP rather than a Retina, the hard drive is under the palm rest, so you may not have crunched the hard drive. You can take the drive out and try to read it on another machine by putting it in a USB enclosure.

  • Help!!! I think my computer is broken??

I posted this in the powerbook section, but I am desperate for an answer, so I will post it here too, since it looks like there is more activity here
I registered here to ask this question, so I am not sure if I am posting it in the right spot ... but here goes ... and I am very UN tech savvy, so please, if you have any info for me, could you try to make it as easy to understand as possible ...
I don't know what I installed, or what I deleted, but I was playing around trying to install a program to convert .avi's to .mov's, and my computer got majorly screwed (I think) ... btw, its a 3 year old powerbook that I am using, with an older version of OSX... I can't be sure of which version though ... also, the 80 gig hard drive is almost completely full ... I was downloading some stuff and there was barely any room left on it ... idk if that matters or not
Well anyway, my computer started acting a little strange, programs freezing and not starting, so I restarted the computer. When it got back to the desktop screen, the icon bar on the bottom of the screen was the only thing that showed up. None of my desktop icons or the bar on the top of the screen is displayed now, and any of the programs I try to run from the bottom bar wont start ... and thats pretty much the problem... I have no clue what to do now ...
I tried to run the operating system Install/Restore disk, but when I turn on the computer and hold the C key as instructed by the label on the disk, it gets to the gray screen with the apple logo but then the logo shifts just a couple millimeters to the right and some lines or dots appear to the left of it, and that screen just stays there ... so I am assuming the computer is just frozen at that point ...
So ... thats where I am ... I don't know what to do know ... If anyone can help me, please do so ... I could really use some instruction ...

its not that simple ... the bar thats on the top of the screen, ... well its not there anymore ... all that loads is the dock ... and any programs on it wont load
now I have an even worse program ... when I got back from work, I tried it again, and now it wont even sit at the desktop, it will stay there for a moment with just the dock showing, then the screen turns to blue for a couple seconds, and then goes back to the desktop ... this keeps doing this over and over again ...
If I could somehow access any data on the hard drive and delete it, that would be the first thing I would do ... but I just cant do anything with the **** thing ... the system restore disk even crashes the computer when I try to boot from the cd ... I am really stuck here ...

  • Ipad digitiser socket broken!!

i recently replaced the digitiser on my ipad. as i was pulling the clips up on the digitiser socket, i pulled the plastic casing up and broke it. now when i use my ipad it randomly clicks on things when not being pressed, and clicks repetitively when clicked. Any ideas on what i should do?
    -Thanks

Your warranty became void when you opened the iPad - there are
no user serviceable parts in an iPad. Try to fix it yourself, google
for 3rd party repair in your area. There is nothing the users in this
forum or Apple can do for you.

The one thing I can think of is that before I shut down the night before this problem occurred, it was telling me there was some conflict, and it wanted to remove a package.  I believe I told it not to remove it, because I wanted to do a complete backup before removing a package I didn't know anything about.  I believe it had the word "mod" or "mode" in it, not sure, it definitely started with an "m" though.

I just noticed something new.  At the end of the long error message when I try running sudo pacman -Syu, I got this
    :: Replace lib32-libgl with catalyst/lib32-catalyst-utils? [Y/n]
    :: Replace module-init-tools with core/kmod? [Y/n]
    resolving dependencies...
    looking for inter-conflicts...
:: kmod and module-init-tools are in conflict. Remove module-init-tools? [y/N]
    error: unresolvable package conflicts detected
error: failed to prepare transaction (conflicting dependencies)
:: kmod and module-init-tools are in conflict
I'm pretty sure it didn't do that yesterday.  However, I'm 90% certain that module-init-tools was the package it wanted me to remove.  It didn't give me these errors before I shut down 2 nights ago though
error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/sync/archlinuxfr.db: Unrecognized archive format
error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/sync/archlinuxfr.db: Unrecognized archive format
it only gave me the dependency conflict.

  • I don't think the iPod is broken, but...

My iPod nano (second generation) is not responding. In the 5 r's, it says my iPod has to be fully charged, but my iPod is out of battery life. I want to recharge it, but when I connect it to my computer, nothing responds. I tried my friend's iPod charger, and still, nothing. I tried the reset method by turning hold on and off, then holding the menu and center buttons, and still, nothing responds. Just a black screen. The last thing that I saw before it "died" was the "low battery life" symbol; the one with the lightning bolt beside the battery that looks almost uncharged (not animated). It froze on that screen for about 15 seconds, then "died". Please help, somebody.
      Windows 2000

Connect to your friends computer and let it charge for at least 30 minutes.
Connect it to your computer and if iTunes can see it, go to the proper tab and enable disk use, then let it charge for at least 6 hours.

    Hello, dogma789
I do not see your built-in iSight in the image you link.
After the reset Ralph recommends, if your built-in iSight still does not show
in your Mac's System Profiler something like shown in this image:
    you have a hardware problem.
Do not be concerned if the description information for your built-in iSight differs from that shown in the lower-right pane of my image. However, if your built-in iSight does not show in System Profiler *_at all_*, your hardware needs repair. *In that case, contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service*.

  • I think iTunes 8 is broken

It has made my external hard drive stop working (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1968973&tstart=0), and other people have had problems.
    Will it be fixed?

I noticed this same problem, too, after I added songs to iTunes 8 and sync'ed them to the iPod. On the iPod (only, not in iTunes): First song seems to end normally but for the rest of the album or playlist each song ends with about 10 seconds (+/- a few seconds varying) left. At first I thought cross-fade playback somehow had gotten turned on but it's not.
My workaround is to uncheck the new songs in iTunes, sync the iPod (effectively erasing them from the iPod) then rechecking the checkboxes in front of each new song and hitting the Sync button found at the lower right when the iPod is selected in iTunes. Checking each song on the iPod (fast forwarding to each song's end) seems to indicate that this fixes the problem.
But we shouldn't have to be fixing this problem, right? Is iTunes 8.0.1 on the horizon?

  • Do you think my macbook pro fan could be broken?

Earlier today when I opened my laptop the screen was black and it appeared to be shut down. I hit the restart button and when the screen came up it said that I had "shut off my laptop due to a problem", though I did not manually shut it down. It was working 100% fine yesterday, so I'm not sure what could have happened to it. I know it wasn't my battery, because I had a full charge prior to shutting it and upon restart I still had a reasonable charge. I was more or less ignoring my laptop's unusual pop-up until I noticed that my computer was feeling much hotter than normal, so I checked iStat pro to look at temperatures. The CPU temp was around 82 degrees or so when I checked, while I was playing a videogame, which doesn't seem too high but the area around my keyboard felt much hotter to the touch than normal. What is really concerning me is that iStat says my fan is running at 0 rpm, even while I was playing a graphic-intensive game. The CPU is down to 65 degrees since I have stopped playing the game, however I have heard that your laptop will shut itself off to prevent overheating, and I'm wondering if this is what happened to my laptop sometime between yesterday and today. Does it sound like my fan could be broken? There isn't an apple store very close to me and my warranty just ended so I'd rather work it out myself if possible. I don't believe it is a faulty sensor either as iStat gave me temperature readings for everything. If you think my fan is broken, do you have any advice or know how much it would cost to fix/replace?

    Good detective work.
I don't believe that 80ºC is extreme for occasional use, but over extended periods of time, this can stress your machine. I beleve you should visit your local Apple Store. They can determine if the fan is broken.
In the meantime, I could avoid:
    - CPU-intensive activities like 3D gaming for extended periods of time.
    - Using your notebook on your lap. That can raise its temperature thirty or more degrees.
    - Dust or dirt can choke the fans, increasing temperatures and even the risk of fire.
Replacement of a fan is not very expensive, if it comes to that. You can also do it yourself:

I need help trying to turn up the volume on my headphones.

    Hello....
I bought my Q10 and the phone is not working now. I think main board is broken. Of course, I've done nothing wrong.
I sent a mail to BlackBerry online store, and they say defective product replacement is not their job, and they said ask about the problem at this link. -> http://global.blackberry.com/sites.html
However, I cant' find where I can ask about this problem. I think this is the only link whick I can ask, but the link is what I asked before. Which means, this link cannot be used for defective product replacement.

click "For smartphones purchased through ShopBlackBerry")
Where can I ask about this? I really can't find where to say...
I'll append the mail that I sent to that support and their return mail.
PS : I'm not in USA and I'm not native English user I bought my Q10 in USA and I'm using it in Korea. I should send my Q10 by parcel post.
Shopper Comments: Hello... I'm a new Q10 user and I really upset about
    my phone....
I used it for two days, and I was using my 9900 because my Q10 wasn't
ready for use. I left my Q10 in my room connected with charger which
included in the Q10 box, and left my home for a while. When I came back
and tried to turn my Q10 on, it didn't turn on. It showed blackberry
logo, and empty battery sign. I tried to charge the phone more, but it
    is not charging until now.
Moreover, the situation is getting worse. I asked about this problem on
a forum. Someone said "Try to reset your Q10 with autoloader. First,
download autoloader. Second, remove your battery from your phone. Third,
double click autoloader. Fourth, if you can see 'Connecting to Bootrom'
massage, connect your phone without the battery. Your phone will restart
and you can insert the battery in it. After that, recharge it"
I followed the instruction, but autoloader failed. It stopped on
Signature Trailer stage(IFS, OS, User File System) with 3% progress.
    (and it quits)
Now the situation is getting worse... I can't see even no battery
sign... At first, red LED turned on for a long time, ( 5~7secs?)  but
now one long red let light and short light 3times / short break / 2times
    / short break / 1 time.
I think there's a big problem with my Q10, and I have done nothing
wrong. Even though my poor English make you to understand the situation
hard, I think you can see I've done nothing wrong. ( I'm sorry about my
poor English, but English is not my mother language. )
So please change my phone. If you need details, send me a mail plz.
Oh... I'm Korean and I bought the Q10 via an agency. (the agency office
is in both USA and Korea. We buy, send it to USA office, the office send
it to us.) So I'm not in a good situation to return my Q10, but it can
be done. Just the return takes some days.
And... please change my phone.. I'm really a qwerty holic, bought your
    9900, have done nothing wrong.
