I think my hard drive's dead; would like to know more about support

This is a couple questions, but namely, what's the most effective way to get your iMac turned in for repair? Should I just schedule a time to go to a Genius bar and bring it in, or do I need to go through the whole process of making a support phone call?
My iMac had a problem yesterday with a blinking question mark folder. I tried doing a disk repair, but it failed a couple times on me. I then formatted the drive (I have Time Machine, so I'm hoping I have that backed up at least), reinstalled OS X, but then it wouldn't boot afterwards.
After looking at the forums, I've seen a couple tips on getting some more verbose output from the monitor when booting (like holding Command + V for verbose output, Command + Option + P + R for resetting the PRAM (or VRAM?)), and after getting a more verbose output, I'm pretty sure this error clinched it for me:
/etc/rc: line 258: 27 Segmentation fault launchctl load /Library/LaunchDaemons /System/Library/LaunchDaemons /etc/mach_init.d
SystemStarter[29]: ipconfig waitall: Segmentation fault
So now I'm packing up my computer to take to support. I believe a seg. fault is about as bad as a hard drive can get when it dies, but I was wondering if anyone knows how good support is with these kinds of repairs, what kind of response I could expect from the Genius Bar, turnaround for a new hard drive (or will they just switch my whole computer out with another that works?), etc., etc.
I purchased the AppleCare, so I have coverage until 2010, so I should be covered.

You could schedule an appointment and then take the Mac in for repair. Alternatively, you could call Applecare and schedule a home repair. I know of a couple of people who have done this and were satisfied. If the drive does need to be repaired/replaced) be sure you get good instructions on retrieving your data (there are knowledge base articles that address that process (looks straightforward, but I have not done it myself).
As far as the name change, I think it would make sense just to set up an entirely new profile (as you only have six posts on this one). One of the things I did when I first signed on many moons ago is to decide that my name (not an alias) would be most useful. That has proved to be the case.

There are two ways to address Still Image Duration. One is global, and applied before Import. One would determine the approximate Duration desired, go to Edit>Preferences>General>Still Duration. Then, all Stills Imported will have that Duration (as will Titles, and New Items, like Black Video).
Once that general Duration has been set, one can still, and on an Image by Image basis, click + drag on the Still Image's Head, or Tail, to adjust the Duration. When doing that, I like to have the Info Panel open and visible, to see exactly what Duration I have changed to.

I fried by hard drive and I would like to know if I can retrieve my programs and/or data from my time capsule. If so, how do I go about doing that?

I need to retrieve my iTunes, tax receipts, and critical documents. Apple inadvertantly sent my hard drive to be destroyed so I've lost whatever is not on the Time Capsule. My mini would do automatic backups, but I don't know how to transfer my information to a new computer from the Time Capsule. Appreciate any help.

Well?I been thinking of buying the Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro instead of using my onboard sound. But I started to read on other fourms and product reviews and its about half split between on using a digital optical connection. I have these speakershttp://www.klipsch.com/products/deta...gmx-d-5-.aspx??(copy and paste)and I tried using all other connection that it has and they all gave very poor sound quality, all except when I went and bought a? digital fiber optical cord then it improved 0%. But when I went to make my back speakers louder I can not adjust any of the speakers.:smileysurprised: In fact I really can't control anything! So then I tried using the other connection?and I could controll the front right and left but had?poor sound and still not being able to control the others. So my question is if I buy this sound card will it fix all my problems like not being able to control each speaker?speakers? Another thing sense I have this hub will it even work with a sound card like this or (last resort) would I just be better off buying a new pair of speakers and this sound card (really don't want to get new ones?saying these are only 2 months old)? Wait until a PCIe Version of X-FI hits the market. Dont buy a PCI X-FI now. This card isnt worth the price in a new system because of SCP and many problems. Even if this card is working in your system perfectly, in Windows Vista there are many problems to solve for creative, especially Directsound is a missing factor in this OS which isnt adressed now. Alchemie is working, but it is not a solution for every game, and it looks like "patching" but not solving an issue. Creative is not to blame for this, but i think with a new PCIe X-FI creative will make a step ahead. I hope they will! I hope Microsoft will include Directsound again. I remember there was a similiar situation with WinXP and OpenGL. but implementing OpenGL is easier, because it requires?only a DLL file. I have too add that my X-FI is running fine in most ways, i can produce SCP with my SCSI controller, but i dont use this thing in normal way. The call library function require us to define the type of parameter that w are using.The type of parameter in cludes numeric, array, string,waveform and adapt to type.I would like to know more about waveform and adapt to type.

In the labview manual, there is very little mention about the use of waveform.How is this waveform being called and can i have an example to see how this work.
Also in the adapt to type paramete, what does this parameter do and in what circumstances do we need to use it.The manual say something about the use of this parametr.It says that scalar elements in arrays or clusters are in line.For example a cluster containing anumeric is passed as pointer to a structure containing a numeric. What does this statement mean?

I'm going to share my experience with the "Adapt to Type" parameter.
Attached to this message is an example. The attachment is a zip file with three files: a dll, a c file and a vi written in LabVIEW 6. The dll contains a function that return a structure with 3 values (like the coordinates of a point in space, that is, (x, y, z)). You can see how the function was constructed by looking at the c file.
In LabVIEW, I created a cluster with the same three parameters. Then, I configured the call library function following the function prototype as in the c file. For the point variable I use "Adapt to Type".
I hope this can give you a head star.

It is shown in the format of question: answer. So if you have a field labled Name and you enter Jeff it will show up as Name: Jeff. Each question/answer gets itls own line in the email so it will appear something like this:

The Quicken Essentials For Mac website probably has the answer. You might check there.
I just did check there and it says Lion. It does not mention Mountain Lion. You might have to contact their customer support people and find out if they have an upgrade or are in the process of releasing one.

Move the entire iTunes folder out to the external drive, e.g. as X:\iTunes where X: is the letter of the drive. Hold down shift as you click the icon to start iTunes and keep holding until asked to choose or create a library. Click choose then browse to the file X:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl.

Hello. I have MacBook Pro. I have 30,000 photos on iPhoto which is not on the hard drive but on an external hard drive. I have purchased a 2nd external hard drive and I would like to make a copy of my iphoto library onto it. I cant get this to work.

I have bought a 2nd external hard drive and would like to copy my iPhoto library onto it as a back up. I tried plugging both in and dragging the iPhoto library into the 2nd external harddrive. It looked as though it was working as it said 20 hours, however I then got a message box saying FiNader could not complete the task due to incompatible files. How do I do this please.

You can use Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant to migrate from the old computer's backup disk to the new computer. If you use Setup Assistant, that would be when you first power on the new computer and it will create user accounts on the new computer to match the old one and migrate files and programs (at last the ones that will run on the new computer) from your backup to the new computer.
Migration Assistant is similar but is run after you have the new computer up and running (e.g. you didn't run Setup assistant on the very first power up).
P.S. This is exactly what I did for our Macbook Air, obtained in 2011, to get it set up with everyting from an older (2008) iMac. I ran Setup Assistamt with the Time Machine backup from the old computer connected via USB to the Macbook Air. All the proprietary software (MS-Office, Adobe Photoshop, etc.) was migrated over without having to re-enter serial numbers and the like, all emails and browser bookmarks were migrated, all user files and settings were migrated, even wireless router ids and passwords. The only thing I had to reinstall was the driver software for a Canon wireless printer/scanner.
