I think my iPhone is defective :-(

The phone won't ring. If I set it to vibrate, it will vibrate. If I set it to ring, it will ring in the earbuds. Without the earbuds, it simply won't ring. Any idea what the problem might be?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

I bumped the silent button on the side of the phone and didn't realize it. Dumb...

i think my iphone was stolen before being sold to me, i need help finding out who the original owner was to unlock the phone. any ideas on numbers i could ring? im super gutted

If you are trying to activate an iPad or iPhone and it is asking for a previous owners Apple ID and password, you have encountered the Activation Lock. This is a security feature that prevents thieves from setting up and using a stolen or lost iPad or iPhone. You have no alternative. You must contact the previous owner to get permission to use the device. If you cannot contact the previous owner return the device to where you bought it and get a refund. You will never be able to activate the device and no one can help you do it.

  • Iphone 4 defected antenna return policy socks

Iphone 4 defected antenna return policy socks they are not fully refund you plus they will make your life miserable try and see..

You have 30 days to return it to an Apple Store for a refund if you bought your i4 from Apple Store or store.apple.com. After 30 days, you can not request a refund. If you bought it from AT&T, Best Buy, etc you have to go back to them for the refund.
    Phone 4 Refunds
If you are not completely satisfied with your iPhone 4, you can return your undamaged iPhone 4 to any _Apple Retail Store_ or the _Apple Online Store_ within 30 days of purchase for a full refund. _If you purchased your iPhone 4 from AT&T, you can also return it to an AT&T store_.
AT&T as well as other stores may not honor the "FREE" refund in place. If not, they would be following their store's policy. 30 days to request a refund and pay the restock fee. Afterwards, the i4 can only be repaired or replaced at Apple Store or cared for at the Carrier whom may submit the i4 to Apple.

  • What do I do if I think my Iphone has been hacked?

I think my iphone has been hacked ... how can I know for sure... I believe they may have gotten my contacts.... who knows what else?

I was also hacked this week on my 4S.  As improbable as everyone at Apple may say, it did happen.  I am pretty good with technology.  My kids had my iPhone 7 years old and they went to a website that without my knowing, allowed so done to take control of my device.  I had the phone on charging and connected via wifi.  I heard in the middle of the night someone talking and then a fax machine but thought I was dreaming. I turned over and went back to sleep not looking at my phone.
Next morning I wake up and the screen is on maps?  I panicked and realized a bunch of SMS txts and also some emails went out. In checking my call log, bingo... A bunch of calls over a 4 hour period.  I started to delete anything suspect but really didn't know what to do. I then called all my banks and credit card accounts to out them on high alert.
I called apple and they begin to say that this is a software glitch, clearly they were not listening.  I went to the apple store and spoke with a supposed genius who suggested the same thing.  Finally, I explained it to a level 2 person and they suggested wiping the phone clean by resetting it and reinstalling everything fresh.  I still have no way of knowing what was accessed or downloaded and more scary, neither does apple.
When I asked if there was an app, they couldn't suggest anything saying that by default the iPhone is secure and encrypted yet here I am with a remote accessed situation on my hands.
    Any ideas... Anyone?

  • Am I the only person who thinks the iPhone 5 is difficult to set up?

Am I the only person who thinks the iPhone 5 is difficult to set up?  At one entry I use just my Apple ID (not an email) and it goes through.  At another entry it requires the entire email.   ??

Probably not, but I suspect you didn't read the user guide, and will be one of the people who come later ranting to this forum about issues that are clearly covered in the said guide.

This is a user to user help forum only. You are not addressing Apple here.
My iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, and iPad 2 are running 6.1.3 with no such problem and the same with the overwhelming majority of iOS devices running 6.1.3.

  • ITunes thinks my iPhone 4 8GB has 16GB

When i plug both my iPhone 4 8GB and iPad 2 16GB iTunes thinks my iPhone have 16GB (~14) storage instead of 8. This results in me not being able to sync either, says I'm out of space and tries to sync alot more than I am. Think iTunes confuses my iPhone for the iPad.
Both are iOS 5.0.1 and iTunes is 10.5.1.42. I rebooted both the iPhone, iPad and iTunes aswell, and I'm running Windows 7 32-bit.
    Any tips?

    Resetting didn't affect anything.
I haven't done anything different or changed the library.  Like any other day, I just took it off of the cradle this morning, went about my business all day and put it back on the cradle when I got home.  But now, instead of synching, it says "This computer has previously been synched with an iPhone or anohter iOS device"  and wants me to restore from a backup.
The backups it is showing me (there are 4) look suspicious because it says "last backed up: 10/16/2011 8:18 PM" but I set iTunes to back up the phone every time I dock.  So something is definitely not right with the backup.  Consequently I don't want to restore from backup until I know what happened to the latest backup.

  • Is my iPhone 4 defective/broken or not?

Hello people, please excuse me if my English are a little bit wrong. Sorry
So I have had my iPhone almost three months now and a month ago I am having these problems:
1.) my battery drain so much when I turn my 3G off, what I mean 3G is just the 3G, not the mobile data.
2.) every time I turn on 3G, (what I mean 3G is just 3G not mobile data). My signal goes down from 5-1 sometimes go up to 2-3 bars but mostly 1.
3.) when I turn it off my signal surprisingly go up from 1-5 but takes few seconds, then after few hours the signal go down one by one until it goes to "NO SERVICE"
This all starts when I updated it to 4.0.2, I have updated it to 4.1 but didn't fix the problem.
I am just waiting for a new update to come to make sure before I talk to apple
So do you think it's defective or do you think it's a software problem?
Thank you for those who views this message
    Thanks for your answer

It certainly should be unlocked if it is an official purchase from the UAE as none of their official carriers lock the handset.  You do need to be aware though that the handset will not be able to use Facetime even if you are not in the UAE as it is disabled

  • ITunes and Computer think my iPhone 3G is a new/different phone

I Connected my iPhone to my computer to Sync it today and it went straight to the iTunes store and then showed a message saying "Congratulations you have actiavted your phone" or something similar. Now my iPhone which used ot have a personalised name now shows as "iPhone" i iTunes and it apears some of mysetting have been lost but not any application data.
Since my last sync with my computer (1 day ago) there have been no changes at all to my pc, no Anti Virus updates, no windows updates or any software/hardware changes at all. I haven't even connected a new USB device.
To resolve this and get it back to it's orginal state I tried:
Rebooting PC and iPhone, which had no impact.
Restoring from a backup, however there is only a backup available from the date/time when I connected the phone and found this problem. I went into the backups folder and verified I have 4,000 files from as far back as a year ago but none of them appear.
I am concerned that I have lost media and aps that were purchased on the phone and that itune will think they are associated to another computer. Additionally I want to understand what could have gone wrong.
If anyone can assist that would be fantastic.

    I'm losing my mind: the phone is a 4S, not a 3!

  • ITunes consistently thinks my iPhone is a new phone and wants to set up as new

I have had an iPhone 4S for 4 weeks and have had every other iPhone since 2007. I plug my phone in regularly to my computer and change the content that is synched to it. Something happened yesterday, however, that makes iTunes think it's a new phone every time I plug it in -- instead of the usual media selection tabs at the top, iTunes gives the "Set Up New Phone" dialog with the option to restore a backup. I have restored from my most recent backups, erased and restored, and today even got a replacement from the Apple Store, all to no avail. There is some file on the phone that makes it appear to iTunes as a new phone and it won't give up.
I have now restored from an October 14th backup and I get the options back, but obviously lose a good bit of stuff that I'd really like to have had. It has been escalated through AppleCare to engineers, but it could take a couple days to hear from them. Thoughts are welcomed and I'm not afraid to get messy with some files :-)

Do you mean that you bought a new iPhone and are trying to sync it with iTunes, or that you restored your iPhone and are trying to set it up as a new phone? In either case, iTunes will recognize the phone as being new. If you actually bought a new iPhone, you can't change how iTunes recognizes the phone. There is no personal data on the phone because it's new, so it will need to be set up as a new phone with iTunes.
If you restored your iPhone and chose to set it up as a new iPhone, but no longer want to, you will probably be able to go back and choose to restore it from a backup with either iCloud, if you set it up, or iTunes. If not, you can try to do a restore from iTunes if it's available after the phone is set up, or while you're setting it up.
I hope that's not confusing. What exactly are you trying to achieve?
    Hope this helps.

  • What does everyone think of iPhone 5 ?

Outside of activating issues (I had the sim card issues, resolved now) How do you like iPhone 5 ? Very happy with mine. I really like the new charge port/cord, so nice to just plug in with no concern on the direction of the cord. Screen size is perfect for me, Phone design is much better than 4/4s Overall I think Apple did a nice job.

I haven't really used the LTE enough yet to really notice a true battery drain but if it does drain the battery quicker that is to be expected if you're comparing it to the battery life of a 3G device. I think I'm going to give it a few battery cycles before I form any real thoughts on it, but as mentioned, it is super light. It suddenly makes the 4s feel like a brick lol. Even with an Otterbox Defender on it, it feels light (I've always been anti-otterbox defender due to the bulk it always puts on devices. The one for the 5 isn't nearly as bad so I went with it.)

  • Is there a fix for the Iphone 4 defective compass?

I had always thought that Apple just didn't put much time into making a decent magnetic compass... until one day I was at my neibors and he showed me this cool app that ID's stars in the sky. While his ios was an ipod I think and mine was an Iphone 4. His was as calm as whatever and mine was jumping back and forth like it had a hole handful of magnetized jumping beans in it. Is there a fix for this problem?

    Thanks a lot wjosten ...
In order to safeguard this, I removed the cable from the iPhone, during the absence of energy.

  • Do you think my iPhone is fixable?

Basically, my iPhone 4 is smashed up. I have a picture of it down below.
People are still calling and texting me and my phone is ringing. But I can't answer or see who's calling or texting me. I can't do nothing with it. It still charges and lights up when I click the home button. But it's a mess.
The front and back is damaged. The front looks worse than the back. The back screen has smashed the glass and has a few chips in it which has cracked all the way through the white cover so that it's gone through like the front part of my phone on the top, as you can see in the picture below.
Also, the main camera on the back screen doesn't seem damaged, but the little circle next to the big one is half covered by the white cover, but doesn't seem damaged.
I really need this phone to be fixed. I have alot of stuff on there which I really need..taking a look at this picture, do you think it's fixable? I really hope so
    http://i41.tinypic.com/2li1l.jpg

Can you still plug it in to iTunes to sync and back it up? If not, you're not getting your 'stuff' off of it.
As for is it fixable... Apple might replace it for the out of warranty charge ($149US). If they determine it's too badly damaged, they will not.

Perform a backup via iTunes on the computer, not via iCloud.
    Then restore the device.
This is covered in the User's Guide.

  • Latest update, 10.5, thinks my iPhone and iPad are still connected and self launches. Help?

Since updating to 10.5, iTunes self launches and shows bothmy iPad and iPhone as connected when they're not. Any help would be appreciated.

I'd like to know also.  The way I understood it would work is that if you enabled the wireless sync on the iPhone or iPad, it would start iTunes and wirelessly sync when you plugged the phone or iPad into a power source.  My iPad is not plugged in and is asleep with the cover on it, and it keeps restarting iTunes a few minutes after I shut it down.
Right now, I'm unchecking the "start iTunes when device connects" box on the iPad and the phone to see if that stops it, but that defeats the purpose.  I DO want it to start iTunes when I initiate it by either plugging the device into the sync cable or into power, but not when it's sitting there asleep on the battery and just happens to be in the vicinity of my home network.
I think both my phone and iPad are doing this.
Obviously, I have Itunes 10.5 and iOS 5 on both my iPad 2 and iPhone 4.  TIA.
