I think my wife has lost all her data after Restoring incorrectly .. can anyone help? I will add a longer explanation
Help ... My wife got an old laptop working again today. On there was an iTunes which she hadn't used for a year or more.
1. Marie plugged her 6 month old iPhone 4s into iTunes (the first time she had done this)
2. iTunes said she needed v 10.5 or above
3. She downloaded iTunes 10.7
4. She plugged iPhone back into iTunes
5. her iPhone showed the iTunes install screen
6. The screen message said an iPhone has already been synced with this iTunes (in fact it was an iPod Touch). She was asked whether she wanted to add this as a new iPhone, or if she wanted restore to "Marie's previous iPod Touch settings?"
7. You can guess what happened next. Marie mistakenly pressed Restore.
8. After she had done Restore, the phone asked her if she wanted to join iCloud and use location services etc. She clicked yes. However, by that time I am pretty sure she'd blanked the content on the iPhone by the mistaken restore from the old Touch.
8. We now have no photos, videos, contacts or text messages on the iPhone.It has been Restored with the content on what was a more or less blank iPod Touch.
QUESTION: I think she has replaced all of our content with, basically, nothing. We had many cherished photos and videos on there. Is there ANY way we can get our photos, videos etc back? Marie doesn't think she did a backup before Syncing her iphone.But would the phone have backed up previously, without her knowledge? Given that she had never plugged it into iTunesbefore...
First time we've used the Community. Marie is utterly distraught at the thought that we've lost tons of videos of our 2 year old daughter.
Can anyone help?

Have you rebooted mac? Then don't, until you checked the temporary directories. If your Aperture library went offline for some reason, Aperture may have written the images to the temporary caches.
Check these system folders, if you find any iPhone images
Quit Aperture.
Open a Terminal window and enter the following two line:
open $TMPDIR
This will open a Finder window with cryptically named folders. Dive into them and look for Aperture's Media cache folder. Are there any image files in the folder "com.apple.Aperture"?
Sometimes Aperture will write to that directory, if it cannot write to the Aperture library.
Also check the following location:
open /tmp
Added: Is there something special about the photos? Are they HDR photos, or taken i burst mode?

Lost all my photos... Can anyone help?
Have been spending the afternoon trying yet again to copy all my photos to an exernal hardrive to make some room. Managed to copy the library i thought, but then realised that when i del;eted something form the library on the mac, it also deleted from the library on the hardrive.
So i tried again to copy the library on the mac to the hardrive in a number of ways, lost track of all the ways now, and then suddenly all the images disapperared, leaving 1000 empty borders.
Any ideas how to get them back anyone? Please?
And also, once theyre back, any ideas about the best way to save them on the external hardrive so i can delete them from the mac?
And lastly.... 2 years ago, when someone tried to help me and moved 2000 photos to an extrernal hardrive and then deleted the photos from the mac, the whole lot disappeared from both mac and from external hardrive. Does anyone know if theres any scope for getting those back at all?

I've tried launching iphoto and pressing alt and command and then ticking all 4 options of how to rebuild... but none of this has worked, the empty frames are still there though, sjhowing the date te roll was taken etc.
My main problem is I have a load of video footage to put on the laptop, i was trying to make space for this when i lost the photos, as I'm making a film for friends who are leaving the country next week, and so I'm looking for a really quick option.
Can you give me any other tips about where to look etc please???

Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.

The photo's in your camera roll would be in a backup, if you have one (iCloud or iTunes). If you did not keep a backup somewhere, they are gone. Sorry, but that is the way of any data - if you don't have a backup of it somewhere, there is nothing to restore it from.
All other photo's should be on your computer somewhere anyway - whereever you had them to sync to the device originally. -
I cant seem to download and install the latest iphone software update. I have tried since the release and have been unsuccessful on more than 7 occasions and lost all the data on the process. Anyone have that problem an how do I fix this problem?

Thanks but I have tried doing the above - when I said 7 times I was modest, its more like 15 times.
And I am referring to the 5.1 software update. I dont have wifi so I guess I will have to try that seeing that my husband also has the same problem - he has also tried downloading several times. It always times out en says that the connection is lost but yet there are always an internet connection and a decent signal once it stopped. Think it said error 32052 or something!
I am disappointed because the update includes inprovement on the battery life - did you guys notice any difference? -
Hi, I'm using a white iPhone 4s with 16gb memory and having some problems. Whenever I use earphones the sound will be heated when the volume is at the highest if I turn it down any lower all I hear is static. Can anyone help me with this problem as I would appreciate it much.
Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
No data is lost due to a reset. -
when i try to install snow leopard with install disk, it has me restart the computer instead of installing. can anyone help me figure out how to get the disk to actually install?
Ok, it's just a glitch that it's not auto-rebooting from the disk.
Please backup your personal files off the machine to a regualr external drive and disconnect all drives before doing anything
Take the 10.6 disk out and clean and polish the bottom with a very soft clean cloth and a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol to cut the oils.
Stick the disk in and reboot holding c key down, this will make it boot from the disk and you can install Snow Leopard that way. -

Error 23, 28, 29: These errors may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow the steps in this article. Also attempt to restore while connected with the white USB Dock Connector cable that shipped with your device, on a known good computer and network to isolate this issue to the device. The MAC address being missing or the IMEI being the default value, (00 499901 064000 0), can also confirm a hardware issue. Out-of-date or incorrectly configured security software can also cause these errors.

When I press the iTunes button on my ipod touch I get the message 'cannot connect to iTunes store' . My wifi is working fine, I can connect to safari & you tube, no parental setting in place, and time and date are correct. Can anyone help please? I have restored my ipod to factory settings and rest it.
I also tried moving the date forward by a year and then moving it back to normal and it still doesn't work. i can't find an automatic update of time zones on my itouch to turn this off.

I have a MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard. After connecting my HP Photosmart D110 to it, the printer works but the scanner doesn't. The message is"The scan cannot be performed because another program has control of the HP imaging device". Can anyone help?
Found the answer on the HP site. It's the original software that works with this printer OS X 10.6!!

I am having a lot of trouble downloading itunes.My latest error message is that MediaToolbox.dll is missing. I have been trying to fix this for three days now .And it all started with the last update .Can anyone help?
Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "Apple Application Support" and then click "Repair". If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "Apple Application Support", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post. (If you've got XP, although the procedure is for Vista and 7, just read "Computer" as "My Computer", read "Uninstall a program control panel" as "Add or Remove programs control panel" and assume the system is 32-bit, and you'll be doing the right things.)

Yosemite update has lost all my data
Last night I let Yosemite do an update. Im now on version 10.10.2. I have now lost ALL my data for every program on my mac book pro. No Email info at all, no photoshop data, no lightroom data from the last 17 years of photographic work.
To say I am disappointed with Apple is an understatment as I run a small business from home and rely on my Mac as I have done over the last 20 year. Apple no longer seen to give stuff about the customer and only seem interested in money. If I wanted very poor service I would have bought a PC.
anyone at APPLE read these forums as they certainly dall of my data disappeared. All of the applications were still there but all of the keys had gone, all the settings had gone. I phoned Apple and sat in the que for 45 mins listening to music but eventually got through and have restored to my original settings from a back up. Thats another few hours of my life I won't get back..... everything now works except photoshop ffs! If u can fix that then your a better man than me.... Error 150:30.

Is there any way to return back the data? They are very important.
They were all my data, very important including all data from university - for more than 4 years.

Unfortunately I have bad news for you.
F11 invokes the Recovery Manager, where you have a number of options. The following two options are under the I need help immediately section.
Microsoft System Restore is a nondestructive process. If you make a mistake you can roll your system back to a restore point on a date that works for you.
System recovery is, on the other hand, a destructive process which deletes all data. Before the process begins it does warn you.
You may be able to recover your data by contracting a data recovery company. It will be quite expensive and without a guarantee of success.
Did you not have your university data backed up on an external drive?

I've just upgraded OSX to 10.8.2 & noticed Aperture playing up-so I upgraded Aperture to 3.4 hoping it would start playling nice again, but now I've lost all my family pics tagged in 'Faces' It's taken me over a year to organise quiet a few thousand of all our famlily pics, can anyone help please? Any light shed on the subject would be much apppreiciated.

Wayne, when you relocate (all or some of) the originals to an external volume, the library on your MBA will shrink considerably. But there is no way in Aperture to delete the originals completely.
I am nor sure, how familiar you are with the organisation of the Aperture library. Other than in previous versions of iPhoto, Aperture never actually renders an edited image. It just writes textual comments on how to render the edited versions, if you want to export your image. In the library are just your originals and instructions on how to produce an edited version, if the image is needed. This makes it easy to undo edits and to create several edited versions of the same image, without using much additional space. So if you remove the originals, your images are lost. The referenced library is a neat way to get the originals from your system volume, until they are needed.
Other options:
Don't import raw+jpeg pair, if you are shooting raw, raw should suffice.
Rigorously weed out your library and delete duplicate or redundant images
Render only small preview images, or none at all, but then you cannot share your images with the Media Browser, and some operations will be slower.
