I think something is wrong with my battery. Only works when plugged in.

My battery says its fully charged but only works when I keep it plugged in. I was using it yesterday and it just shut off randomly and started this stuff. I have no idea what I should do. Help?
It's a 2007 black MacBook if that makes a difference.

Even though it says Normal the Cycle count is well above the 300 considered the maximum for the battery. Plus your Amperage is at 0.
You can get a new third party battery fairly cheap on eBay. Every MacBook from 2006 through Mid 2009 except the Late 2008 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 and 2010 White Unibodies use the same A1185 battery.

my final cut is running extremely slow after having for 6 months.  I use external hard drives and save nothing on my computer.  it takes a long time to render now. do you think something is wrong with computer. took it to mac store but they fail to help me.  I have a 13 inch mac book pro 10.6.8 8gb 2.3 gfz intel core i5

What did Apple tell you about what they did (or did not) find here?
See if working on the main disk is any faster.
USB2 is glacial, as I/O interconnects go.  And USB2 disks have been known to fail, or sometimes to drop back to USB1 speeds, too.  FireWire 800 is substantially faster than USB2, but still not as fast as the internal drive connections can provide.
Put another way, start varying your configuration, and see which configuration changes (still) have the problem, and which don't.

  • 7th gen Nano only works when plugged in, turns off when  unplugged... battery is fully charged.

7th gen Nano only works when plugged into computer, as soon as I unplug it shuts off (it was ejected from iTunes). Battery is fully charged.  Have already done a restore in iTunes and checked for updated software.

    Hello there, DizDude.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some good recommendations for troubleshooting battery issues with the 7th generation iPod Nano:
iPod nano (7th generation): Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4433
    Particularly this section:
    Battery life appears short
Learn how to conserve battery life.
Ensure that the latest software is installed on the iPod.
When charging, use the cable that came with iPod nano (7th generation) and leave the device connected until it is fully charged.
Note: If you are charging using your computer, don't connect iPod nano (7th generation) to your keyboard. Also, the computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode. If iPod nano (7th generation) is connected to a computer that's not turned on or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPod nano (7th generation) battery may drain.
When you are done using the iPod nano, verify that:
The Radio application is off (tap the button)
Music is paused (tap the button in the iPod application or disconnect the earphones)
There is no active Pedometer session (tap the Stop button in the Fitness application)
Dimming the screen is another way to extend battery life on iPod nano. Go to Settings > General > Brightness and restore the brightness to the default, or drag the slider to the left to lower the default screen brightness.
Playing tracks with EQ requires your iPod processor to consume more energy than playing tracks without EQ, because the EQ information is not encoded in the song. To prolong battery life, turn EQ off if you don't use it. Go to Settings > Music > EQ and select Off from the list. Note, however, that if you've added EQ to tracks in iTunes, you'll need to set EQ to Flat to have the effect of Off, because iPod keeps your iTunes settings intact.
Try restoring iPod nano (7th generation) by connecting it to iTunes and clicking Restore.
    Test the battery life.
    Issue not resolved
If the issue is still not resolved, please read this information on servicing your iPod.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Is there anyway to have an 11 inch mac air connected to an external monitor with lid closed and still be able to see content. I have a wireless ketboard and mouse and have tried everything. Only works when plugged in.

Is there anyway to have an 11 inch mac air connected to an external monitor with lid closed and still be able to see content. I have a wireless ketboard and mouse and have tried everything. Only works when plugged in.

You are referring to a feature called Clamshell Mode, please read Clamshell Mode setup for instructions.
BTW when posting when you use generalities such as "have tried everything" this tells us nothing. When posting please be specific and try to paint a complete picture. It just makes things easier for those trying to help you.

  • Battery or Something Else? Laptop only works when plugged in.

Suddenly, my G4 Powerbook w/ Tiger only works on power cord, not battery. As soon as I unplug it, it shuts down and does not hold its time settings. How do I determine if its new battery time or something else? Thank you.

Here's the same info from my battery which is supposed to be five years old:
    Battery Information:
    Battery Installed: Yes

I just noticed that you have a 15" model and the power numbers may not be the same as my 17" model.
It would be prudent to post this data in the forum section for the 15" PowerBooks in case there is some basic difference. Be aware that there is a recall program for certain 15" PowerBook batteries. Details are here:

  • Strange issue with external monitor, only working when external speakers plugged in (using Thunderbolt to VGA adaptor)

Hey – I am having a very strange issue with my external monitor; where it only works if my external speakers are plugged in and connected.
I am using a late 2011 Macbook pro, running Mavericks 10.9.4, along with an MBox 2 (USB Audio Interface), and two powered speakers (KRK Rokit 5). This setup has had no issues. I have just acquired an external monitor (Benq T2200HD), which I am using with a thunderbolt to VGA adaptor (a cheap Chinese knockoff adaptor).
To start - I plugged the monitor in with the thunderbolt adaptor, and it powers up and works fine. However, there is a nasty buzz coming from the speakers. I did some research and it looks like a simple ground loop issue. I did a bit of troubleshooting, and this is where things get weird.
What I found is - If I unplug the MBox, the monitor loses signal from the computer (displaying ‘No Signal Detected!’). Further, if I keep the MBox plugged in, however unplug both the cables from the MBox to the speakers, the monitor loses signal. It doesn’t matter if the speakers are turned off, however they need to be plugged in (or the monitor loses signal). Weirder still, I can unplug the MBox, however the monitor will work if I plug in the speakers through my macs headphone jack.
Simply put, the monitor only works if there is a direct connection between the computer, the speakers, and the power source.  What is going on here? Is the monitor grounding through the computer port, to the speakers (I don’t know how this works, is this possible?). Could it somehow be the cheap VGA adaptor I am using?
    Some other information:
    - Everything is plugged into the same multi-box for power. I have tried plugging things into separate sources, and the result is the same.
    - If I unplug the thunderbolt adaptor, then the speaker noise disappears straight away.
    - The ground noise doesn’t appear in my headphones, which are plugged into the MBox.
Any information would be great – am I missing something here, or is this genuinely weird?

Well, I went back into Best Buy to test on 3 other laptops (2 Asus, and their floor model for this Sony). It seems to be doing the same problem so at least I was able to rule out broken hardware issue on my particular laptop.
Here's what I did to test:
Since I couldn't really install Adobe Premiere on their machines, I used the DVIO software (http://www.carr-engineering.com/dvio.htm) and a 5 min clip I captured.  I transferred onto their machines, hooked up my Sony D8, and attempted to play the video.  It would play for 15 seconds and then stop and jitter with a loud noise (like it does on my laptop).  I even tried changing each machine's firewire driver to the legacy one and same results.  I pulled a brand new 4 pin to 4 pin firewire cable off their shelf and still the same problem.
I think I've nailed it down to Win7x64 bit Home Edition not playing nice with Firewire driver.  Very annoying.  I can't find any concrete evidence of this from other users on any of the forums that have my particular problem, but from my own testing, it's all I can conclude.
I have 2 other things I can try:
    1.  Opening the laptop and looking at the firewire to maybe find appropriate driver (ugh, I don't want to have to open this thing up).
    2.  Upgrading to Win7x64bit Pro and possibly testing with XP on the new MS Virtual PC (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/).  I can't do it with my Home edition apparantly.
Who needs to view video on an external TV anyways....sheeesh...(scarcasm).

  • My iPhone 4 speakers don't work with music it only works when I get calls

When I try to play music or videos my iPhone speakers don't work but when I get a phone call it works and I've tried everything to get them to work but no result yet. The first time it happened it was because there was lint in my speakers but I cleaned them out and now that its happened again I can't figure out what's wrong.

    OK, let's try a reset.
A reset may help. Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off buttons for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons.
No content is affected by this procedure.

  • Anyone guess what is wrong with this battery issue?

A couple of weeks ago I noticed something unusual... it showed "not charging" in the indicator instead of a percentage... I just never seen it show up like that but it was shown that way at 93%...so I wasn't too worried. I was told to calibrated my battery. Before I calibrated my battery I let it drop down to 85% and it wouldn't recharge at all until after a while and it did start to charge, although slowly and not consistently (went from green to orange). Then I let it drain all the way and it recharged up fine and showed the steady orange. I noticed when I would use it since then it'd never show it recharging back up like it used to ("trickle")... but when I put my computer to sleep and woke it up I noticed it had recharged and whatnot. Maybe I didn't calibrate it right? I don't think I let it sleep for 5 hours. But I'm not sure if that will even fix the problem. I cleaned the magsafe adapter and the connector just in case but I don't think a dirty adapter is the problem. Something makes me think something's wrong with the logic board or battery? Am I jumping to conclusions? I didn't touch the computer after last Sunday and when I woke the computer up on Wednesday it showed "Not Charging" at 82%...I let it drop to 75% and it still says not charging with a green light. Great. I don't know what to do...I think mine is a built in battery MBP so I don't even know how to check it. I've only had this computer for 17 months. Should I trust local repairs to look at my computer? I don't really have a lot to spend... I have never been mobile with it so it's fine as a desktop but it's not ideal, especially if you were to lose it if you were working on it. I've already tried the SMC and it did nothing...unless I didn't do it right... anyone else know what I could do to try to fix the problem on my own? I'm worried about recalibrating it and it not charging back up, probably won't happen but it's in the back of my mind of constant worry.

Ok here are my recommendations for your consideration:
Goto the “apple “on your top menu bar. Click 1stoption (About this Mac) a small screen will appear
andclick on “More Info...which will take to a large another smallscreen with Mac Book Pro in huge
    letterslike this: MacBookPro.
Nextgo the “Systems Report” button: press.
NextUnder “Hardware” on the left you'll see “Power” click that.Volia the battery info
Nowlets do an analysis of the info: here's mine a 2 mo. Old 17” MBP:

      Voltage(mV):     12534
OK under“Charge Information” you see my MBP currently at 7806mAh (mstands Milli
which is 10 tothe -3 power) which translates to 7.806 Amp hours in non-techiespeak. As you see on mine Full Charge Capacity is 8.488 Amp hours.
Ok under healthyou see my cycle count is 17. Your very low cycle count 31 reflects that you are not “conditioning” your battery by runningit on battery till 5 minute warning or going to sleep and then fullyrecharging it! You've had it ~18 mo. And your dooming your battery to a short life.
Condition your battery for a long life.
Please notethis is a super battery 2.131 Amps @ 12.534Volts which Apple sayswill last 7 hours. Real world experience is significantly less withLion OS installed.

  • Is there something wrong with my battery?

Hi everyone! I have an Iphone 5 that was newly "remodeled" for tmobile. I was wondering if there was something wrong with my battery after a recent decline in performance. I am updated to the latest iOS and I recently restored all of my settings on my phone in an attempt to increase battery performance, leaving only wifi on location for weather. With my current usage and standby, do I have something to be concerned about? I know some individuals that have my usage and will have a standby time of over a day. Advice and opinions is very much appreciated.

Usage and Standby the same means that there is an app on your phone that is running continuously. Usually its an app choking on bad data, or trying to send and failing. There are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:
Mail is a common culprit, especially if you have a Microsoft Exchange email account. If you do, go to Settings/mail,contacts,calendar, tap on the Exchange account, and turn off the switches. Then back out of settings and restart the phone (hold HOME and SLEEP until an Apple logo appears). Then turn the switches back on. This clears the mail, contacts and calender queues. It will take a while to resync content, so don't check battery condition until the resync is finished. And its best to do this with a WiFi connection as a lot of data may go by.
If that doesn't fix it do the same with your iCloud account, and any other Push accounts you may have (Yahoo, gmail, hotmail, AOL).
Next, look for apps that run in background (most of the apps in the Quick Launch ribbon do not run in background, but a few do - music and video streaming apps, Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo Messenger, Whatsapp, etc). Kill them in the quick launch ribbon by pressing HOME twice to display it, then hold your finger on any app until they all wriggle, then tap the "-" on each one. It won't do any harm to kill them all.
Note that if you have Google Maps installed and you asked it for directions it won't stop tracking you until you actually kill it in the Quick Launch ribbon.
    good luck and report back!
BTW, you will see a lot of posts blaming some specific version, now 6.1.4 (because it's the newest). But you will see just as many reports for 6.1.3, 6.1.2, ...5.1,...4.1...3.0, etc. It's nothing wrong with the version (except for 2.1, which had a real bug), it seems to be caused for some people by the upgrade process itself. But there are also many people who encounter this symptom far away in time from any upgrade.

  • Something's wrong with my Adaptor

My iPod mini's about 6 months old now (but it's the pioneer model), and most of the time I use the power adaptor to recharge the battery (the one that was provided in the box). For some reason every time I connect my iPod mini to the adaptor it just won't charge. Why's that? And can I get it serviced since I'm still under warranty? Help!!!!

If something is wrong with your AC charger better let it be checked.

My old Ipod got this glitch when it was not connected to the computer for a long time but this thing barely leaves the computer whats wrong?(the ipod support also ***** so i thought i would ask you guys out here in the commuinity)

same here sorta fixed it, i noticed that it is only effecting old songs and old covers never anything after like 3 years ago. also had a fall while walking lukily the case i bought stopped and external damage to the ipod, but IDK i think something maybe wrong internally. the fall wasnt a nasty like a drop onto pavement how are ipods structurally is there many cases of ipods breaking from a drop?... off topic i have never had an ipod touch all myapps that im buying and downloading if i have to replace my ipod where will all my personal data go? its not like i can just hand my ipod uploaded with over $600.00 of songs and other to costco.

  • When I try to connect my iphone to itunes it will not work, but when I connect an ipod it will. This is telling me something is wrong with my phone I am jsut not sure what that is. Can someone help me.

I was trying to update my music last night. But itunes told me it needed to be updates first. So I updated itunes, and my phone. But now when I connect my phone using the usb. It will not connect to itunes, all that comes up is a phone icon on my desk top(which doesn't allow me to do anything with) But when I connect an ipod it does connect to itune and I am abble to look at how much room is left, and the option to restore ect) . SO this tells me something is wrong with my phone it self. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this problem?
    Thanks.
PS my lap top is running the new windows 8.
