I think that my shuffle has finally died...

I've had my Gen 1 shuffle for a little less than a year now, and I've loved it dearly.
Just a few days ago, I plugged it into my computer to put a new podcast onto it, and nothing happened. Not only did my computer do nothing, there was also no orange light on my iPod.
So I plugged it into it's wall charger, seperate from my computer, and nothing happened there. Yes, the iPod was OFF when I plugged it in, so it should have worked.
So now I'm stuck with an iPod that won't charge or connect to the computer. I've tried everything that I know. Is the battery just dead?

Same thing happened to me.
Of course, the warranty had JUST expired.
Tried all the Restart & Restore methods available and could not get a peep out of the Shuffle.
Brought it to the Apple Store and was told it had died, a common occurence. Same thing happened to a friend of mine whose Shuffle was still under warranty and at least she was given a new one.
As for me, I was ****** off. My Shuffle had only lasted a about a year and a half.! I was steaming mad! As I prepared to walk out of the store all in a huff, I stopped to weigh my options.
Fact is, I can't live without an iPod, and they had just released the newest version of the Nano. I was already there in the store and the Nano cost just about as much as my old, dead Shuffle did and had 5G for what 1G used to cost.
Yep. I was so ****** off I marched right up to the counter and bought a Nano, which I love and which works great (for now). GUESS THAT'LL SHOW 'EM!
The lesson here is: Let's face it. They've got us by the short hairs and unless there's something better out there, you gotta keep re-buying the gadgets. My advice? Throw that trash in the garbage can and move on.

    My bondi IMac finally failed to boot up and power on yesterday....on my birthday no less, in a final insult to me after giving me headaches over the past 2 years. I wasn't surprised and didn't even get upset about it although it's a bit of an inconvenience since I now can't work on music composition while I wait for a good deal on a G4 sawtooth to come up on Ebay. I knew it would happen....it was only a matter of time.
    When I pressed the power on button it made a funny sound and instead of the green power light coming on it just went out and never powered up. I've tried unplugging it but the button just won't turn it on. Maybe the on button broke. It's always had a power up problem in that sometimes when you pressed the on button it would light up green but the monitor wouldn't come on, then I would have to unplug the power cord and start it up again....which would usually work. When I shut it down the monitor would go off but the on light would stay on indicating that the CPU was still running and I'd have to do the unplug and re-plug again. It also developed screen flicker problems though it hasn't really been noticable lately. Occasionally the monitor would flash off and then back on again....but this happened only once in a great while.
    Most of my files are backed up on an external hard drive but it would be nice to be able to boot it up one more time just to make sure I've got it all before I just toss the blasted thing. This post is kind of like a blog entry but if anyone has any idea on how to get it to power up again it would be great. If I can't I'm going to pull the 4 gig HD from it, install it in the new sawtooth and pull what I need from it.
    Bummer though.....I thought I could make it last for a few more years and use it just for internet use.

    Keep in mind that voltage testing does not give an accurate test of battery life. A battery tester will apply a load to the circuit and give results.
    What I would do at Radio Shack is buy a battery holder for three AA batteries. Add two wire leads and attach them in parallel to your PRAM battery ( or use a plastic plug instead of the old battery to hold the wires in place). That will let you test your computer using normal batteries. If your computer is truly dead, that battery holder is still useful for other tests and it was cheaper.
    Call me brain dead but I would rather buy three G3s for $15 than a Radio Shack PRAM battery for an otherwise questionable computer. Someone mentioned that Old World Computing had batteries for $4.95 but there had to be shipping and handling in there somewhere.
    A new battery is not a guaranteed cure but test equipment is guaranteed to be useful for many machines.

    iOS 7 does drain the battery of an iPod 5g with only the a5 processor, if you have had it for a long time with a lot of use than that is probably the source of the problemo. You can go to an expert to replace the battery. Apple experts probs

    If you're accustomed to working with MS Office, you can purchase Office for Mac 2011 and your documents will open fine - albeit if different fonts were used there may be some reflow problems.
    Before buying Office for Mac, you may want to try out two free alternatives - LibreOffice or OpenOffice. I don't use them as I use Office for Mac but either should be able to open your Word documents.

    Storage space on the iPod would not affect shuffled playlists or playlist shuffling, though substantially full iPods may wind up skipping songs on larger playlists after a while, and require a restart.  As for compressing the files themselves, you can automatically re-encode files to a lower bitrate by checking the box on the summary page when your iPod is connected to your PC/Mac.
    As for the shuffle problem, after restarting your iPod (hold the center button and Menu for a few seconds, until the Apple logo appears), make sure you're telling the iPod to shuffle the songs in a playlist by repeatedly clicking the center button until the Suffle Menu comes up, then scroll to the right to turn it on.  From that song forward, the playlists' contents should be shuffled every time the playlist ends, or is accessed from a new song.
    Shuffle does sometimes turn itself off, I've found, so double-check the setting is still on.  Also, iPods shuffle by randomly assigning a playlist order for your songs, which is different from traditional shuffle (on, say, iTunes or Windows Media Player, where the new song is determined at random upon the current track ending.  The iPod only chooses a random order of songs when you shuffle, to conserve battery life and queue up songs coming up on the playlist in the event of a shock).

    I'd make a backup of your important stuff before cloning the entire disk.
    Carbon Copy Cloner will copy your startup drive to an external  firewire drive.  You can boot from the external drive to verify that you have a good clone. When you upgrade your existing startup drive, you can at any time boot from your external drive and go back to your existing system.

    I've had my Macbook for about 11 months now and i use it every day; its gone though about 420 cycles of charging and using the power, and i noticed the battrey preformance has decreased (as expected). The problem isn't sevear yet but it would comfort me knowing that i could replace the battery in the near future

    No only if they think under warranty/AppleCare, but your likely able to pay for a new battery if they have them, which they might not yet since it's such a new machine still.
    BTW, I have a Early 2011 17" MBP, 27 months old, charges to 97% and has only 14 cycles.

    It isn't a virus.
    I would try the Restore from backup first and if that does not help try a Restore as a new iPhone.

    I suggest contacting apple support...I know in Australia it's 1300 321 456...Not sure what it is for where you are, try this website http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57. Alternatively, if you haven't already, sync it with iTunes. If the iPhone's not been synced before, try holding the power and home buttons down at once. That should reboot the phone. Might sound stupid, but make sure it's fully charged first.
