I thought feature phones had no data/smart phone package..

The nokia twist is now under feature phones tab but it requires  $10 or more data package... is this a glitch like the Kin Onem has with the smart phone data package requirement? Even though they're no longer smart phones...

The $9.99 25 MB feature will remain available for 3G Multimedia Phones.
Effective 10/28/10, 3G Multimedia (3GMM) devices will no longer be sold, but  plans and data feature requirements for some devices are still the same.
Customers that activate a 3G Multimedia phone can choose from three data packages:
$9.99 with 25MB & Mobile Email
$15 with 150MB & Mobile Email
$29.99 with Unlimited MB & Mobile Email
A data package option of $9.99 or higher  is needed for the Nokia 7705 Twist as a pre-existing 10/28/2010 device.

  • Upgrading from a feature phone to smart phone

I have a feature phone with a 75mb data plan that is pre share everything plan and we are not interested in switching to the share everything plan.  I'm wondering what I have for options for a data, if anything, if I want to upgrade to a smart phone.  I will not be upgrading my line, just buying a phone second hand.  Any insight would be helpful.

You can stay on your old plan even with an upgrade. The only ones that had to buy a phone at full price are the ones on Unlimited. Anyways the data options for smartphones with the old pricing are 2 GB for $30, 5 GB for $50 and 10 GB for $80. Overages are $10 per GB.

My phone was stolen, but I had no data left and so can't locate it till the person who has it tries to use the internet. I backed up all my photos on iCloud, and want to get them on my PC. I installed iCloud onto the PC and  followed the instructions and still can't find my pictures, says my photostream folder is empty, but it shows on iCloud that i've used most of my storage which is true, so they must be there somewhere?
Any ideas? I'd really appreciate the help! Thanks

Yes, I filed police report, but there is nothing they can do until I get back to them on the tracking. It's been offline. I'm sure the whoever took it can find a way around breaking in the ipad..i really was hoping to get my pictures and videos of my kids back

  • What is the "best" feature phone to upgrade?

I am due for my upgrade on my current phone (which I love most of the time) my LG EnV 3 which I have had for 2+ years. Upon learning that Verizon discontinued the EnV series I was really upset, especially since the only good phones left are smartphones. I am about to start my senior year at college and neither my parents nor I can afford a smartphone for this last year of my school. After school, if I get a consitant job I am planning on upgrading to an iPhone regardless of the >$800 I will have to shell out.
So my question is, for the next year or so (two years tops) should I buy the LG Cosmos or the LG Cosmos Touch? I really want a touch screen, but is it worth $50? Is the Cosmos even any good? I know the camera is awful, the keyboard is small, and no video capabilities? Also, does the Cosmos (not touch) let me use mp3 files as ringtones? I know the LG Octane is good, but I don't have $100 and it's probably not worth that much money. Or should I get the  Samsung SCH-u370, which is also $50 although I cannot find it on the Verizon website, but the bestbuy website.
Or should I just wait until Verizon comes out with new feature phones? The only probablem with my current phone is that it randomly turns off all the time consistantly, which is really annoying but has never been a major problem. Is Verizon even ever going to update it's feature phones? Or are poor college students going to have to resort to crappy phones or crappy service (not Verizon?).
    Thanks in advance!

Don't get a new phone until they offer better phones. I have the ENV3 and refuse to "downgrade" to a junk phone. There are no feature phones even close to the ENV3 though Verizon would like to say that the Octane is but from what I read and people I talk to the echo makes it not worth even getting stuck with for 2 years.
I just bought a new battery from ebay and will continue to just keep this phone or if I have to buy another phone from ebay before I get one of their stinking phones.
To: SuzyQ - longtime Verizon customer
Helping others get the most out of their phones!
I too am a longtime Verizon customer and was like you for years and years. I thought Verizon was tops until they have stopped caring for those of us who do not want nor can afford smart phones.  They have shown what they think of us who just want a good phone with the same features we had 2 years ago without a data plan. Now they want us to think that all that is out there is stinking junk phones when they offered better phones just in the recent past. Why do they think we are stupid?  Its all about the almighty dollar and not the customers.

  • Need more feature phone choices

I have an LG Dare touch screen phone and have been happy with it for the last 2+ years I've had it. However, it's always nice to be able to upgrade to a newer phone. As much as I would like to have a smart phone, I don't want to spend the extra money on a data plan. The only 'feature phones' that I would be interested in from Verizon would be the Pantech Crux or the LG Octane and the Octane is not a touch phone. The Kin phones don't interest me at all. For kicks, I checked the AT&T phones to see what they have to offer and have several nice looking 'quick messaging' phones that are touch screen and don't require a data plan. Why can't Verizon offer phones like this? Been waiting for months to see if Verizon would offer anything new, but alas they have not. However, they are constantly rolling out new smart phones. Verizon needs to offer more choices to their customers who want a nice feature phone and not require a data plan. Someone like me.

    jrod33,
Hi!  Our device lineup is always changing. The phones that AT&T feature carry many of the same features as our "Feature Phones".  Please sign up for email alerts about our new device releases!
    Thank You!

  • Replacing a feature phone when contract has ended

If I buy a couple of 'back up' feature phones like Verizon Lg Vx8575 Chocolate, not to add a line or change my service, is it an easy thing to do?
The reviews on the two feature phones offered on Verizon don't seem to have very good reviews, and I don't care about having a smart phone.  I certainly don't want a data plan.  I fear that Verizon will stop offering stupid phones very soon, and want to know if I can just continue on in my benighted phone world using the same number.  The vendor says the LG chocolate is new and is guaranteed on Amazon.
Any thoughts?  Or recommendations for a different easy to read/handle phones that are not uhm...Jitterbug?   I'm using an Octane now, and am getting sick of it.  Turns itself off all the time.  Poor reception.  Dropped calls.

Hey there BessieLil! I'm glad to see you're considering getting a back up device. Activating a Basic function device is actually very easy. If you're within the VZW service area, you need only turn off your current phone, turn on the replacement, call *228, and then select option1. The automated system will walk you through the steps from there.
I can't say that the LG VX8575 (AKA the Chocolate Touch) that you're looking at may be in new condition (perhaps never owned by another customer), but not new to the market (the model was introduced November 2009). My stepson has one and he's very fond of it (though he's eager to get a smartphone). If you have other questions about that or any other device, we have some support videos you can view at this link: http://bit.ly/y5iuoj. You're also welcome to return here. Take care!

  • My complaints about VZW's lack of good "feature" phones

In an effort to save on my wireless bill (college kids have to do that) I have moved from my beloved LG Ally to a KIN TWOm. Upon seeing  the selection of  "feature" phones that VZW offers, I was left with an empty feeling. Verizon has to have the worst selection of "feature" or "quick messaging" phones in the business. Gone are the glory days of the ENv Touch, Rogue, Chocolate Touch (piece of crap really), and Reality (still found in some stores). Now we (the customer) are stuck with offerings like the Cosmos Touch and the Pantech Crux as well as the KINs. As far as the Cosmos and Crux is concerned, they are far from enticing. So is the once overly hyped KIN series the only appealing decives they offer for those looking to save? Looks that way.
Let's take a look at what competitors like ATT and T Mobile have to offer (I use them as they are now, technically, "bigger" than VZW). ATT has a spectacular selection within their "quick messaging" phones. Some of those that shine brightest are the LG Vu Plus, Samsung Eternity II, Samsung Solstice, HTC Freestyle, and the Pantech Laser (among others). All of these phones offer a
resistive touch screen or better, as well as, at the least, a 2mp camera. All of them also come with some type of social network integration. The Samsung also include an intuitive display that allows you to place widgets on up to three homescreens. The Freestyle provides a smartphone experience without the data package price, and the Laser is acclaimed as the thinnest sliding phone ever.
T Mobile has the Samsung Gravity T, t249, t359 and  Nokia Nuron (these stick out to me most). The t249 and t359 aren't touch screen phones, but they have clean interfaces and social networking integration. The Gravity has a 2mp camera, good color choices, and a great OS. The Nuron isn't the greatest phone, but it offers a capacitive touchscreen and a good user experience. Even though T Mobile's selection isn't as good as ATT's, it trounces VZWs'.
If you don't have the pleasure of choosing from great selections (those of ATT and T Mobile) then like most, if not all of us here, you are stuck between choosing a flip phone dating back at least four years (Accolade), one approved by military standards (Ravine, Brigade, Barrage, etc...) or one of the touchscreen "feature" phones VZW offers. The Cosmos Touch, Crux or KIN ONEm or KIN TWOm. What is so bad about these phones? Well, I can't say too much is wrong with the KINs, aside from them carrying a half-baked OS (the potential these phones had was astoundingly lost in bad marketing and under development). The Crux on the other-hand is a pain to use. Considering its unresponsive touch screen, and sluggish performance it makes for a terrible user experience. This leaves the Cosmos Touch-it is no ENv Touch. It lacks a good camera, no way to record video, and a bad screen resolution.
The way I see it is that the only decent "feature" phones VZW offers are the KINs ONEm and TWOm. They are equipped with WiFi, 5 and 8mp cameras (respectively) capacitive touchscreens, and a decent web browser. These are features that ATT and T Mobile do not offer on their "quick messaging" phones (1 point for VZW). Too bad they only come with a stripped OS (no more LOOP or KIN SPOT) because these features were too "data heavy"  and, in all honesty, made them too much like smartphones. Nor do they include Backup Assist support, or any access to the VZW apps (really not a big deal anyway). At least when using a KIN you aren't bombarded with VZW marketing and logos.
Before I settled on the KIN TWOm I checked to see if I could get my hands on a Samsung Rogue (re-certified). The only way I could only get it is to pay $159. For a re-certified phone? I don't think so. It is obvious that while ATT and T Mobile are still keeping those in mind who can't afford a smartphone, VZW is forgetting them. They are throwing the "feature" phone to the wind and concentrating on selling expensive smartphones. I will say that they are making smartphones more affordable, but it is not yet enough.
In the end I will stick with VZW, as long as I can afford it....they really do have the best coverage. But I will be a disgruntle customer stuck with a pathetic selection of "feature" phones until the day I go back to my smartphone (out of college maybe?). I will now step off of my soapbox.
Thanks to those of you who read this, and I hope VZW takes this seriously.

The main point of the post was to provide a solid comparison of the lower end phones offered by the three most major carriers in order to show that VZW is falling behind (albeit in brief). I will admit that that did get lost as my post dragged on. The problem is that Verizon does not offer a good enough selection of phones to choose from for those trying to save by going the lower end route.
Thier selection of phones has indeed changed. Comparing the latest run of "feature" phones to the phones they offered not just two years ago, I can see a change. The quallity and build of the products is the same, but the capabilities are lower. If you look back at the phones I mentioned from ATT and compare them to the touchscreen phones that Verizon offers, I think you will see a difference in features. You can get previous phones; but by doing so you forfeit the ability of getting insurance, or any other replacements.
When I said that T Mobile and ATT are bigger than VZW, I am taking into account the merger that is currently taking place. Once the merger is 100% complete they will have about 30 million more subscribers than VZW. I doubt that T Mobile's quick messaging phones will become obsolete like Alltel's did. T Mobile is larger and thier phones are better known.
I agree that VZW has better customer service (many sources can prove this), but I do not agree that ATT's  phones are garbage. They carry Samsung, LG, and Pantech. VZW carries the same brands (+ Sharp). I will again agree that VZW is the best all around, except for the selection of  "feature" phones. A reason I will stay with Verizon is that they have good customer service, and great reception everywhere, if this were not the case I would switch carriers simply for the chance to get a better lower end phone. I also stay with them in hopes of being able to get a smartphone back one day-VZW has a fantastic selection of them.

  • Is Verizon OK w/ losing feature phone customers to the HTC Freestyle?

Is Verizon OK with losing customers to the HTC Freestyle?
This phone is by far the best feature phone available among all the service providers.
Does Verizon plan to compete at this level of feature phones?
Or are the customers who would buy into this level of feature phones just not important enough?

To SuzyQ:  WiFi is not the crux of my question- if WiFi becomes so important to feature phone users that carriers make it standard, then so be it.
They all look similar, yes; feature sets vary widely between them.
-These are the competitors- features varying doesn't change the fact that customers in this market of phone will be choosing between these specific offerings
look and feel of a smartphone- sure, capabilities are less than half of what smartphones are capable of, (this sounds "handicapped" to me by your description of the Twom - advanced "looking" but no smartphone capabilities - but it has Wi-fi)
This is not handicapped- The Kin Twom is actually handicapped.  Any phone that cannot forward text messages, delete individual text messages, download ringtones, etc. is actually handicapped.  Having a phone that does all the basics well and looks like a smartphone is not handicapped, even if you think it sounds like it...
This is what makes the Twom "like" a smartphone  - the web access!  But that's ME - and apparently, not your criteria for a "better" phone.
-The Kin Twom has WiFi, but it lacks so many other simple things that it loses its appeal- Again, a phone that does ALL the basics and looks/feels like a smartphone is where this category is headed- Verizon is losing out by not jumping in sooner, if they plan to jump in at all...
Contrary to your assertion, I'm not sold on the Freestyle because I'm not even sold on AT&T, for many reasons (I would be sold on it if Verizon had something to compete with it).  I'm just frustrated that they've got better feature phones (Even the Pantech Laser beats all of Verizon's feature phones) hands down and it seems like Verizon isn't even trying to compete.
I'm not complaining that Ford doesn't offer an Accord (I'll help you with your analogy there) - I'm simply telling Ford that I like them, but they're losing me because their products in my price range are not compelling or competitive.  This doesn't even account for the fact that cars don't come with contracts...you follow?
And here's the best part- Since phone manufacturers aren't exclusive to carriers, all it takes is a phone call from Verizon to HTC saying something to the effect of, "We need an HTC phone to compete with your AT&T Freestyle".  HTC would then say, "Sweet- more business in the name of competition- we'll have it for you in a few months-ish..."
I'm sure Verizon would like to hear from customers that will push them to remain competitive over customers who will drink all the Kool-Aid they can mix up...
It seems you have an illogical affinity for Verizon no matter what they do- that isn't helping them or you ("...so rather than try to change Verizon's lineup, go get the phone you want from the carrier that has it...")- just calling a spade a spade...If every customer thought like this, Verizon would eventually have nothing at all to compete with...

  • Old Feature Phones

I was wondering if anybody knew or had a list of phones that could be used as a feature phone?
I don't want to pay $9.99 a month for any data plan but want a new phone.
So i wanted to look into buying an older phone off of amazon or ebay.
Currently i have the LG Dare, but i want something with a qwerty keypad that isn't a multimedia phone.
    Thanks

Verizon Wireless feature phones are Verizon Wireless CDM 8975; LG Accolade; LG Cosmos; Samsung Gusto; Verizon Wireless Salute; Verizon Wireless Escapade; Samsung Haven; Samsung Intensity; Samsung Intensity Metallic Blue; Pantech Jest; Samsung Convoy; Motorola Barrage; Casio G'zone Rock; Nokia 2705 Shade Non Camera. Can view online at www.vzw.com hover over phone and click on Cell phones.

  • Feature Phones

Not everyone in the Verizon network can afford to have Smartphones or aren't interested in this.  Seems like the focus lately is on smartphones and upgrading $15 or $30 and if you have a grandfathered VCast Video plan, you have to pay an extra $15.  So to get a smartphone and have unlimited data, you must pay $30 plus pay your $15 for Vcast Video to keep it (which already includes unlimited everything).  So with a smartphone it's going to be $45 a month for customers that have been with your plan for years.  I have been a valued customer for 16 years and quite frankly am disappointed with Verizon.  Why can't you get better feature phones.  All you're feature phones are crap!!!  Not everyone wants a flip phone, not everyone wants a touch screen.  Hey, what happened to flash with the camera on a phone?  With the economy the way it is, feature phones that actually work and last would be nice.  Can anyone tell me if there will be any new feature phones that will be coming out in 2011 that are worth having????

I'll tell you why ALL the feature phones are crap.
Because, BigRed is trying to increase subscriber revenue by coercing all its customers to Smart phones and the higher rate plans.
You want a good camera.....good screen res. ........  or good texting... then its get the smart phone and its increa$ed data plan and SPEND more money!
Their basic phones look like they have been produced  10 years ago!
They currently don't have anything that even comes close to my Env Touch; 800 x 480 screen res, 16 million colors, 3.2 mega pixel camera and its good, and full keyboard.
VZ doesn't want the lowe end customers and is trying to shake them...... nuff said.
Too bad, because I am one of them. I would love to get ANY smart phone BUT I don't want to increase my bill by 75%.
....and BEFORE you dolts out there complain about getting a smartphone and NOT using the features, you would be wrong.
I would like a good camera, good video res., good texting ability and wifi, but Bid Red doesn't want this to happen.

  • Added 3rd line, my own feature phone, to NATIONWIDE LOYALTY SHARE 550 plan. Penalty for early termination of that line?

I went to a Verizon store to activate, on a pay-as-you-go basis, an old feature phone I owned so I could use it for a month or two while I am selling a house. The Verizon agent said the best thing would be to add it as a 3rd line on my existing NATIONWIDE LOYALTY SHARE 550 plan, where it would only cost the $9+ monthly fee and use minutes from the pooled 550 plan minutes. I made sure he understood that I may only need the additional phone/line for a month or two, then cancel it when the house is sold. He said I could easily delete the line and phone at no penalty. HOWEVER, when I got home and looked at my online receipt for the new line, it states "Date of Activation: 9/06/2013, Contract End Date: 09/06/2015, Early Termination Fee: UP TO $175." I am looking for a written reply from a Verizon representative why the receipt states an early termination fee when I was told that there would be none because I am using my own phone?

I was able to contact my Verizon agent at the local store and he said the 3rd phone was incorrectly added as being subject to a 2-year contract. He went into my account and changed that 3rd phone to a one day-contract so it now shows as a month-to-month phone with no termination fee. Unfortunately, he said he cannot re-print a corrected receipt with the change. I asked him to make a screenshot of my account showing the 3rd line and had him email it to me. Hopefully, that will suffice when I terminate the line in a month or two.
This is a good reason to always check the written agreements and receipts when you buy anything. Never just take what is taken verbally as binding. It is what actually gets entered into the system and what the contract terms state in writing.

  • New Feature Phones in the Future?

I have been looking at the feature phones that verizon has currently on their website and they haven't changed for some time. As of Feb 1 the data packages have changed and was wondering which of the feature phones currently on the list would require a $10 data charge? My son's line is up for an upgrade, but there are not any phones on the current list that are as good as the EnV Touch. What is bad is I am probably going to have to play the $10 to get him a phone that is like the EnV Touch and before Feb 1, I could have gotten him a Vortex for free and pay $15. I know we are all in the same boat and really don't have a clue what plan is next and when it will be, I am just a little frustrated.
Are there any new feature phones on the horizon that are not a flip, Ozone or Cosmo like phone? Are there any phones that might come out that are like the LG Dare or the LG Versa? Any phones like the HTC Smart for AT&T?
All the news on any of the blogs or boards are about smartphones, where is the love for us who have family plans already and can't afford a $29.99 data fee on our phones?
    Thanks
P.S. - Someone might say, "Hey how about the Kin Two m?". Well, the there are problems with that phone and it seems the Verizon Wireless salesmen/women try to steer you away from it. Is there a $10 data package on that phone? It does not say on the website when you view that phone.

Thank you everyone for your responses. All of our Feature phones listed, can select the pay-as-you go $1.99/MB plan or a MB package. If you are looking for a non-slider all touch screen phone, the Pantech Crux is an option. Even though we do have any new information about new phones being released, I would like to invite you to sign up for email updates to be among the first to be notified of new phones and services. • Are there any good basic/feature phones that have been discontinued?

My brother currently has the Samsung Intensity II and it's giving him a lot of problems. After troubleshooting with tech support it is best for him to replace the phone. The insurance deductible is $45 but the phone will likely be refurbished. I am seeking a non-smartphone for him that I can purchase via eBay or Craigslist. Because he is 16, he wants some type of smartphone. Preferably the iPhone or a low/mid-grade Android phone. I won't allow him to get a smartphone until he gets a job and pays for the phone and monthly data plan.
I am sort of disappointed in the selection of basic phones on the Verizon website - there are only 7 phones under $100. It seems backwards that there are 23 smartphones under $100. The conspiracy theorist in me would think this is a ploy to coax customers to move towards smartphones but I digress. I have been looking at the Samsung Brightside and the ZTE Adamant (discontinued - not offered on vzw.com) and they seem pretty cool and reasonably priced on eBay. Are there any other basic or feature phones that you would recommend [including discontinued and upcoming phones]?
I would rather not purchase a phone directly through Verizon so that it does not extend the contract or interfere with his upgrade date (to ensure that he will be able to afford the phone of his choice when he is ready).

Another vote for the Env3 - son and daughter both had them (18 and 21) and they were more than adequate phones and worked well for them.  My son (now nearing 24) is still using his though he is eligible for an upgrade now - he likes it and sees no reason to change until it quits on him.
The Alias (original) was a good phone for my daughter before her Env3, and I really enjoyed my LG Voyager, touchscreen.  None of the phones require a data plan, if you can find them.

  • New feature phones anytime soon?

Are there going to be any new feature phones anytime soon? I haven't seen any that I like, and am just wondering if there will be any new ones in the near future. Most of the ones sold now are absolutely worthless and the rest (theres only 1 or 2 of them) don't really line up with my tastes and I'd be better off keeping my old phone then get a new phone that will fall apart in a few months or getting one I don't want.
And please don't just give me the link to the feature phones , I'm completely capable of looking there myself and also please don't tell me to sign up for updates, as I'd rather be told by an actual person than being sent a generic email that doesn't really give me the information I'm asking for.
I'm just curious if anybody has any information about new feature phones coming out this summer. I'd like a phone with at least some of the capabilities of a smartphone, or at least a phone that looks nice and works well, but I'm unable to have a data plan since all my money is going towards a college bill and my parents are in control of my phone bill.

Appearently new phones running MP Brew are in the works but I don't suspect they will be out until late this year.  This question has been posted more than a few times and Verizon is unwilling to give an answer.  The fact that no one is previewing a phone should also be telling as to when the new phones will ship.

  • Would porting a month-to-month feature phone line out cancel my unlimited?

    Hi,
I have the following lines in my family plan.
    1 = Unlimited
    2 = Unlimited
    3 = feature phone, month-to-month
    4 = feature phone, contract
I want to port #3's phone number out to a different carrier since the user wants her own independent line.
I heard porting out a number automatically closes the line.
In my case, does it simply close the #3 line and leave everything else in tact?
I do not want to lose the UL lines because of this.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Porting out the month to month line #3 would simply cancel that line only, and the other 3 lines would not change.  Your bill will be reduced by ~$10-15 a month (depending on taxes and fees for that line) and the remaining 3 lines will share the minutes (and texting if applicable).
You will not lose the unlimited lines - only upgrading those lines will result in loss of the unlimited data.
