I thought my Iphone 4s updated contacts daily on Icloud. My phone has over 700 contacts and Iphone 550. How do I get these to update without plugging into my computer?

If you are syncing contacts with iCloud on your phone, just edit the contact in the contacts app. That edits it in iCoud.

Iphone not syncing contacts/calendar to iCloud
I have all the updated software and installed icloud on all of my devices. I have turned on all options under icloud settings on my iphone in terms of syncing.
I have been able to do a back up of my iphone onto the icloud under storage and backup on my iphone.
If I add a contact or calendar item on my mac, it goes to the icloud and my iphone. No problem there.
My problem is, if I add a contact or calendar item to my iphone, it does not put it on the icloud or on my mac. Please help.
ThanksOn your Mac open System Preferences > iCloud. Deselect the boxes next to Contacts and Calendars, reselect those boxes then restart your Mac.
On the iPhone, tap Settings > iCloud then switch Contacts and Calendars off then back on then reset the device.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Hopefully everything will sync. -
How can I get my iphone to update contacts to icloud?
I reset my entire phone (4s) in order to restore mistakenly deleted contacts to the phone. The problem is, every time I do this, I just lose them again because it is synching with iCloud and instead of adding new contacts to the cloud, it's deleting them from my phone! HELP! I am only able to keep them on the phone if I turn off wifi right after I reset the phone and restore to iCloud backup.
logically one would think that would work. It just keeps removing the contacts I restored to my phone instead of saving them to the cloud. Then it synchs to the cloud and removes the contacts. Here is my thought- should I delete all my contacts on the cloud and then wait for it to synch?

The option to directly sync my iphone contacts with my Mac's seem to have disappeared from iTunes. Given that I haven't (and don't want to) upload my contacts to apple's icloud servers, how can I do a simple synchronization?

MIkeI believe it is. I'm not a Mac user, but if you were to search the forum, there have been a number of threads regarding Mavericks and syncing, so a search of those terms will more than likely yield results that discuss the server information. I remember reading information, but since it did not pertain to me, I did not retain enough.

IPhone always 98 contacts fewer than iCloud- why?
My iPhone 4S always seems to miss 98 contacts when syncing from iCloud. iMac and iCloud are in sync correctly with 2751 contacts, and Groups are ok. Have tried switching off iPhone iCloud sync, deleting contacts on iPhone, restarting iPhone, I get the same 2653 contacts (at least it's consistent in the ones it misses!). Any ideas to fix this?
In that case I'm quite curious what will happen if you back up your iPhone, reset is to factory settings and try again after setting it up as new, because it might be a software issue in the phone.

NB: set up as a NEW device because a software issue will be in the backup. If the issue persists after restoring, I'd recommend that you call AppleCare, they might want to take a closer look at your account and whatnot. -

Contacts on my iphone does not sync properly with icloud. I have merged data with facebook contacts, and this merged information appears as I want it to be on icloud.com. But on the iphone, the facebook contacts and the icloud contact appear separately.
I have tried exporting the contacts out of icloud.com, then deleting all contacts on both icloud.com and on the iphone; then importing the vcard back into icloud.com, but the facebook details still appear as a separate contact. It is too time consuming to merge all of my contacts manually What should I do in order for the iphone to display the contacts as it is on icloud.com?Is there some sort of Facebook tag on the vCard?

Purchase Date = 05.Jan.2011
Initial Activation Remark = I used my gmail email account to add contacts initially. But phone always failed to sync (back) with gmail after the initial setup. As in if I make any changes in the iPhone’s Contact List, it won’t automatically be saved to my gmail account. But I thought to keep a full phone back up on my MacBook Pro will be safer option as well.
Latest Full Phone Backup Date = 19.Sep.2013 [via iTunes-11 on MacBook Pro-OS X 10.8.2]
iOS 7 Update Date = 20.Sep.2013

Problem = iOS 7 update deleted all the Contacts that were originally saved on the iPhone.
Tried & Failed = I tried to restore from the available 19.Sep.2013 backup from my MacBook Pro. It restored everything but still NO CONTACTS. If I add email [orginal gmail] account's contacts then it does not show the contacts that I saved on the phone locally; around 1100.
I am in the great trouble because my 1100+ contact list just zeroed by this new update.
[Also, my iCloud all got screwed up. I had earlier used my wife's credit card to register for iTunes, and now my account got her name all over it. There is no option to change the name on icloud.com. I will start a new discussion for this problem.] Though I am trying not to lash out on Apple (for now), but I think that it is seriously getting into my nerves.
Could anyone please help me to get my contacts back? I will be eternally grateful.

If you're still around I hope you see this message, as you're the FIRST person (after reading every link, thread, other sites, apple support articles, etc.) to mention JB may be causing this iTunes popup window to REPEATEDLY occur:
"The iPhone software update server could not be contacted."
No, I did not hack anything (are you kidding? Grannies don't hack!), but I unknowingly bought a 3Gs iOS 3.1 from ebay that was not advertised as JB. Since it is like brand new, I was going to keep it (because my old backup is iOS 3.1.2) & was trying to simply restore & update, which (I thought) would remove the JB (that's what everybody says at forums, etc).
Instead, after "erasing all settings/content" (inside phone's Settings to get the prior person's name out of there), it is now stuck in White Apple Mode.
Put it in DFU/Recovery Mode & connect to iTunes but that stupid above message keeps appearing & I have already read/tried EVERYTHING to get rid of that message, starting with:
1. OLD phones (3Gs) with OLD iOS 3.1+ should work FINE with OLD Mac (iBook) with OLD OSX (Tiger 10.4.11) with OLD iTunes (9.2.1[5]). So that can't be the problem.
Here's all the other things apple & others say to check which I already checked:
2. USB ports are FINE, both work FINE, so that's not the problem.
3. No "extra USB devices" are connected, ONLY a mouse, & then the phone (yes, I tried it w/o the mouse connected but that didn't help).
4. No "usb hubs."
5. Latest iTunes for this OSX has already been DL'd (iTunes 9.2.1[5]). If you know of a newer one for this OSX, please advise.
6. No antivirus software.
7. No security software.
8. No routers; only 1 comcast modem, period. Wired Ethernet.
9. No wifi gadgets, no wifi at all.
10. No firewalls, except what is on iBook in the SHARING/System-Prefs. section. It's turned OFF.
11. Did the hosts/terminal thing sudo nano whatever it was. There were only 3 lines, NO gs.apple.com:
xxxxx local host
xxxxx broadcast host
xxxx local host
Oh, & btw, ATT officially unlocked this phone (after I filled out their online forms) but I can't finish the process via iTunes to get their Confirmation that "Device is Now Unlocked," so I can use T-Mo.
So that's it. If you have any other ideas of what to do from here, since from your comment, maybe it's the stupid JB on this phone that is causing the problem (???), please advise.

I recently updated my iPhone 4s to ios6, and lost 1200 odd contacts. I recently sold my macbook air and also my mac book pro, so have no recent backups avaiable. I have a backup from about 4-5 months ago available on an external hdd as a time machine backup. Can I add/update contacts from the back up rather than restore? The reason i wish to do this is because in the update i didnt lose any messages, so all of the people i have met and networked with since that last update those many months ago, i have in my messages listings. They are all unidentified numbers at present but over time i will be able to work through the messages and based on the conversation recall who each was with. Also, yesterday, some two weeks after the update had left my contacts list entirely empty... a vast majority just reappeard, though all of them are without any phone numbers, all just emails or facebook contacts. This is the work of facebook not mac/ios6 isnt it...? Any help here would be greatly apprecaited. I am about 2 days from flying to canada and having those contacts would make life a lot easier.
You should be syncing your contacts with an app on your computer or cloud service (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, etc), and not relying on a backup. If you haven't been doing this, start now and then restore your old backup. You will then be able to sync the new contacts back into the phone. However, you will lose all messages, etc newer thant the backup.

Hi could anyone help me out? my iphone 3gs keeps restarting itself every two minutes which i think is some kind of software issue,now there are a number of things i have done starting with putting in a new battery.when i charge the phone it resets itself every two minutes or so and the battery indicator stays at 4% so i decided to restore the phone on itunes (which is the latest edition) and when i connect my phone which i have put into recovery mode using the buttons, i get an error message saying :- the iphone software update server could not be contacted.a duplicate file name was specified. i have tried re-installing i tunes and that doesn't solve the issue and i have trawled through the program files to see if i could spot the duplicate but without success ,has anyone had the same issue and resolved it?
An iPhone 3G cannot be updated beyond iOS 4.2.1...that's the end of the line for your phone.

You can continue to use the current AppleID for iTunes, but your husband can create a new AppleID to use to create a new iCloud account that will be his own and not overlap with yours. If you do not have another email address to use for an AppleID, just get a free Gmail account and use that.
You can have as many AppleIDs as you want (or at least, as many as you have email addresses for). You can use a separate AppleID for the store, another for iCloud, and even another for iMessage if you wish.
You will want to keep the current one as the shared one for the store as all your previous purchases are permanently tied to it, and thus you need that AppleID to update or redownload your current purchased content. -
